  • Hey everyone! My name is Adam, and in today's video, I will be showing you how to revive the Microsoft Update feature, in Windows Update, in Windows 7!
    Microsoft Update was a piece of software that was integrated to Windows Update, so you could receive updates for Microsoft related software.
    After Microsoft changed the update system to SHA-2 only, receiving updates for older Windows Operating systems was tough. Microsoft made it harder to access the Microsoft Update pages and it was almost impossible so users thought that it was lost forever.
    But today, I will be showing you how to revive Microsoft Update, so you can receive updates for Microsoft related software like Microsoft Office, Microsoft Security Essentials, and Microsoft Visual Studio!
    Prerequisites
    Your Windows 7 system just needs to have the Automatic Updates feature working in order for this to work. You need to have both Service Pack 1 and the KB3102810 update installed on Windows 7 in order to make Automatic Updates work. Otherwise when you check for updates you will always get an error.

    A lot of people have been having trouble getting Microsoft Update to work on their Windows 7 system due to a few reasons. Here are some things that can help you out so you can get the Microsoft Update (Vista) website to work on your Windows 7 system.
    Firstly, the Microsoft Update website is not deleted and it still exists. You need to visit the direct URL of the Microsoft Update (Vista) website which is fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?g_sconsumersite
    Secondly, you need to have the Automatic Updates feature working in Windows 7, otherwise when you check for updates in Windows Update, you will get the "80072EFE" error code or an error code similar to that. I clearly stated at the start of the video that the Automatic Updates feature needs to be working first, other wise this whole process will not work and you will continue to get the "80072EFE" error code or a error code similar to that. I also said that there is a link to the video that I made on how to make Automatic Updates work again in Windows 7 that you can find in the description of this video and in the card in the top right hand corner of this video. So if you want to get rid of that error code and get Microsoft Update working on your Windows 7 system, then watch and follow the video I made on how to make Automatic Updates work for Windows 7.

    I have a few questions. First off, can this method brick Windows 7? Second, if I follow the directions in the video, how long will continued updates last, and are these updates from microsoft? Third, is there a way to set up firewall in a way that will make my computer more secure? Fourth, what free security do you recommend? Finally, how do I know if these so called "updates" are actually doing anything?

    • @tecadam
      @tecadam  Год назад +7

      Hi there, to answer your questions,
      1. This method shouldn't brick Windows 7 but there is always a possibility that anything could happen.
      2. These updates will last until there are no more updates released for Windows 7 and Microsoft related software on Windows 7. Windows Update will still work, but you won't see any new updates. These updates are from Microsoft because we aren't using a WSUS server and the way we get updates is by installing a KB update that fixes Windows update so it will work again. With this fix, you can also get updates from Microsoft Update if you get it working.
      3. To setup your Firewall, you can head over to the Control Panel, then head over to the System and Security category, then open Windows Firewall, and check if your Firewall is enabled. If it is, then you are all set. If you want better Firewall protection, then I would recommend installing an Antivirus Software on your PC.
      4. Free Antivirus Software for Windows 7 that I would recommend are BitDefender, Avast, and even Microsoft Security Essentials which you can update via Windows Update.
      5. These updates just patch security holes that existed at the time when the patch was made. Because Windows 7 is out of support now, Microsoft isn't patching any current security holes. At least if you install the latest updates, you will make your Windows 7 system more secure than it was before. With having Microsoft Update enabled in Windows Update, if you have any Microsoft related software installed like Microsoft Office 2016, Microsoft Security Essentials, or some versions of Microsoft Visual Studio, then you will continue to receive updates for those software until they go out of support. Microsoft Office and Microsoft Security Essentials are extra layers of security on your Windows 7 system, so by installing the latest updates for those software, you can make sure your system is secure.
      Hope this helps!

    The recommended steps for troubleshooting Microsoft Update issues on Windows 7 in 2024 include running the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter, installing the most recent Servicing Stack Update, ensuring the latest Windows updates are installed, and using the Microsoft Update Diagnostic Troubleshooting Tool. Additionally, manually downloading and installing updates, resetting Windows Update components, repairing system files with the DISM tool, and performing a clean restart into Windows can help resolve Windows 7 update issues.

    if we turn on the automatic updates you have linked in thins video, why we should do this too? can you explain?

    • @tecadam
      @tecadam  4 месяца назад +3

      So that this whole process works. If you don't make Automatic Updates work, then Windows Update won't work. Making Microsoft Update work in Windows enables updates to be detected for Microsoft related software installed on your PC like Microsoft Office and Microsoft Visual Studio. You can find these updates through Windows Update once Microsoft Update is enabled. If you don't make the Automatic Updates feature work which is what allows Windows Update to find updates without getting errors, then you will get errors. So that's why this is important. Microsoft Update is an extension to Windows Update, but if Windows Update itself doesn't work, then Microsoft Update won't work either.

      This doesn't affect any of your apps other than updating them if updates are available. In this case, it will be for the Microsoft apps that you have installed on your PC. The updates are mainly just security updates that are available to install.

      You need Automatic Updates working first, otherwise this will not work. You need to install the KB3102810 updates on your Windows 7 system. Service Pack 1 needs to be installed prior to installing the KB3102810 update. Let me know if this helps you out.

    Thanks for a very helpful video. Though i have a question. You said that without service pack 1 and the KB3102810 update Windows update doesn't work and gives an error. I have windows 7 home premium installed on my laptop. If i install now service pack 1 could it delete from my computer programs ? Do you know another way for windows update to work again? Thanks and keep it up.

    • @tecadam
      @tecadam  8 месяцев назад +2

      No problem! If you install Service Pack 1, it won't delete your computer programs. It's like installing a regular update. If you are afraid that you might lose something, you can just make a system restore point, backup your files, and or make a full backup of your entire computer. Hope this helps!

    • @tecadam
      @tecadam  10 месяцев назад +2

      This works for all Windows versions, there's no reason why it shouldn't work on any other version of Windows 7. Your copy of Windows 7 isn't broken, and yes you need to install drivers as that's how it is for computers. It also depends on what computer you are installing it on too. If it's too old, Windows 7 may not find drivers for your computer same if it's a laptop. You do need internet access in order for Windows 7 to find the latest drivers too. Install the necessary drivers for your computer and then try to get Microsoft Update working. Please note that Automatic Updates has to be working in order for Microsoft Update to work. Let me know how it goes.

    I tried Windows 11 on a friend computer because he asked me to install Google Chrome.. Windows 11 blocked me, and forced me to use Microsoft Edge for ever. You can't install any browser on Windows 11. Microsoft want you to use their Shit Webbrowser. You can't install a new one. i've not been able to install google Chrome.
    I'm actually still using windows 7 as my main computer, and switching to windobe 10 when i need to play specific games that run only on win 10. it's a pain to use win 10 compared to how beautifull windows 7 was with the aero effect.
    It's a Shame and we should all boycott microsoft.. but no one will do it lol, so people will merge to windows 11 which is a daube, a complete poop.
    Devs should keep in mind that windows 7 is still used around the world and still a powerfull 64bits O.S.
    I'm not planning to leave windows 7 soon, even if i'm running Firefox legacy because even them, have drop windows 7.. They are all forcing us to move to windobe 10 or 11..
    And Linux is sadly not an option for a windows user.
    i'll keep running windows 7 as long as i can, then i'll buy a rope and a ladder to do the move when windows 7 will be entirely obselete and non functionnal.

      I agree with that. However you can install Google Chrome and other web browsers on Windows 11. It's very simple.
