I am going to be filming a Q&A video so if you have any questions you want me to answer, comment below with the hashtag #questionsforB. It can be about law related items, being a lawyer, relationships, RUclips, living and moving to NYC etc.
Brittany Tran I just saw this video and I am glad I did. I had a question on what type of loan did you take out to pay for you rent, utilities, food, etc.
@@denisetapia5649 I can't remember what it was called but it was part of the financial package my school provided to me and I could just choose to take out more to help pay for other costs other than tuition.
Brittany Tran Thank you for this information. I am considering going to law school but I am unsure about the process and how loans work. I am studying for the LSAT now but I am all over the place 😅I have been binge watching your videos and they are very helpful.
Worst decision of my life was going to a T10 and taking on 6 figures of debt. I was emotionally vulnerable and bought into the social narrative of “prestige.” Scam.
do you think you would have gotten just as good of an education and would have the same job opportunities if you went to a lower ranked school (say between 50-100)? or if you had taken a scholarship at one of the lower ranked schools?
@@hivisboys the truth needs to be told. The legal job market is completely saturated, especially after Covid-19. I hope you have found a good career path. Georgetown law school grad here.
@@hivisboys if you don't mind my asking, what kind of job did you get? I didn't even have a job when I graduated. Now I am self-employed after working for some terrible small law firms for peanut pay.
I appreciate your content, considering law school, have a good background in finance and studied engineering in undergrad, only question left is if I would actually enjoy working in the industry - I do love reading, writing for me is meh, however.
It's a bit hard to hear you in your intro with the background music. Maybe you could turn down the music a bit or leave it out from the intro altogether in the future?
Thank you for the video, I’m shooting for Chapman, Loyola or southwestern. I’m planning to stay at home and hoping for scholarships. I’m planning to go into public interest as well. Currently got an internship at DA office this summer. Any tips? Thanks
How would you pay for law school? That's a ton of tuition to pay when the goal is to get a job maybe paying $50-60k. Public interest jobs are also very competitive to get. Why not aim for a UC law school where you can pay in state tuition & have more prestige. Good luck!
Can you talk about t1 schools versus regional. You seem to be very successful even coming from Chapman. A lot of people STRESS T1 and top 14 versus University Of Maryland Carey law School or American University. Can you talk about your experience post law school.
T14 is important if you want to start your career at a big law firm making the standard 190K starting salary before bonuses. What makes T14 schools special are the connections they provide. Top big law firms (that pay you 190K starting salary) recruit almost exclusively from the T14 schools (and the top 25 schools to some extend), so unless you were a valedictorian or did something amazing in a lower ranked school, it's next to impossible to get a job in "biglaw." I believe Brittany mentioned doing internships at law firms in 1L/2L summer that paid $15 an hour? I have a few friends who are in T14 schools and their summer internships at law firms paid them basically the starting salary of a first year associate, divided by the time they worked there... about *$3500 per week,* which is hardly an "internship" kind of money. Students usually receive an offer (or multiple offers) from the big law firms they worked for before they graduate and have their position secured. Another small thing to consider is if you want to go into academia and become a law professor in the future, you would want to have a degree from a highly ranked law school. Same thing if you want prestigious law-related positions in the government. The field of law is undoubtedly elitist in many aspects unfortunately. Whether you think it's fair or not, sometimes it's all about connection, connection, connection, and *connection.* But if these are not your goals, there's no need to stress over going to a T14 school. You can go to a decent law school and still have a bright future and be just as successful as T14 graduates. (though the path may be harder and take more time...)
agreed with what johnnyXXX said. my path is not the traditional path and although I may seem "successful" it really depends on what your goals are. I would say that I also was blessed with a lot of good bosses and jobs right after law school that got me to where I am.
Now that I am an attorney, I am grateful everyday that I did it the reading the law route instead of the law school route. I cannot imagine having that much student debt.
Can you elaborate? I am a high school senior going to college in the fall and I most likely will have to take out loans. I am also thinking about law school after that.
Hello I'm dealing with the same issue now only thing my loan was for cosmetology school and it had increased double the amount I am self employed and not sure what route to take so that I will not keep getting intrest added to my total amount owed they truly dobt help you out in situations like this adding money each month just makes the payment higher. I need help as to how I can get them to lower the intrest or whip me clean 😂
Much needed video!!! I put together my application binder and added up just the debt from school alone and I ended up taking some schools out because there are certain amounts I couldnt justify. Love your videos! Thank you!!!
I'm a recent university graduate and I'm wanting to get into law school next fall. I'm not having any help as far as paying as I'll be on my own. Is it okay that I work full time that isn't law related, but am paying for law school? I received my EHR certification so if I work in that job to help pay for my school will that be looked down upon?
I have never even heard of Trinity law school. That sounds like a for-profit, bottom tier school that is not going to be worth attending. You will probably be better off going to community college to get a vocational degree.
The obvious answer to paying off law school debt is getting a job that pays well enough to pay off those loans after you graduate... My friend is graduating from law school next month and already has a job lined up that offered to pay her $15,000/month. Yeah you read that right.....
How did you take out 160k when the life time cap for FAFSA student loans is 138,500? I’m a rising 1L and I’m trying to figure out if I can have the money to complete law school
Yes, never rely on a president talking about forgiven some student loans as we saw Biden running his mouth about doing that and now he says Zero. Plus his talk was on forgiving only 10 grand, so that barely scratches the surface of the typical loan and the average attorney would way most likely earn too much to qualify.
I didn't have to because I didn't take out any loans for undergrad but if you did then yes you would have to pay them as soon as you graduate (after the short grace period).
Donald Trump doesn't talk about student loan debt that much. He mainly talks about the border wall. 160k for a law school is a lot. The cost of a law school degree today is anywhere between 250k to 300k. This is outrageous. I hope the dept. of education steps in a do something about this asap.

WRONG! I would recommend doing more thorough research before leading your viewers on with incomplete information. Scholarships are not the “best” way to receive free money for law school. Better option: Join the military. I’m going to law school for free and the GI bill is paying for it 😉 Oh yea and I get a monthly housing allowance ... so they pay me too ... so I am actually making money. 👍
thanks for the information, I think about the military as an option so it's good to point out that there are several options out there. this video was just on what I knew and my experience.
You sound ridiculous lmao. First you go and attack this youtuber, I thought the military taught discipline? And also, opportunity cost. You wasted years of your life on a corrupt military and you'll never get those years back. Why do that when you can just waste an hour applying for scholarships and get free money

I think here in NY the state and city universities are the best bang for the buck if you can't get scholarship money.

So...just CUNY and Buffalo?
Hi Brittany! I discovered your channel a few days ago and subscribed. I'm not in law, but I've been binge watching your videos! Great content! :)

Don't worry. You'll be able to pay it off.

thanks for the input! it's meant to be a summary/highlight reel and I'll talk about it in the actual video itself.
How to pay for college and law school
I want to be a lawyer but I guess I have to stick to plumbing and save cuz borrowing Is stupid debt slavery.
Good idea. As a plumber, you could probably make more than many people with JDs, without 3 years of lost income plus over $150,000 of debt.
How much the you pay s month?
How much scholarship minimum and maximum can we get? I appreciate. Thanks.
scholarship amounts really range and vary depending on what type of scholarship it is, which school and your statistics (GPA, LSAT).

What job position did you work during the summer after your 1L year?
I was a law clerk at a small family law firm.

anybody know about trinity law school? how are the post grad employment rates
they should have that information on their website.

I think some of the loans weren't FAFSA loans. Some were private or some may have been from my law school.
Do you know if Canadians ( considered as out of state / international ) interested to study law in US could be eligible for scholarships ?
probably but I am not sure.

I would tell anybody not to take on $160,000 of non-dischargeable debt to go to law school, unless it's Harvard, Yale, or Stanford.
Can u pay it all off in one payment
if you have the money yes you can.
I think so.
I can't afford it's law school should be free not pay for college and law school as well
