Congratulations on the new direction! You were critical in my decision to attend law school. Though I initially thought I would also be a big law attorney, I’ve found my calling is in Public Defense. Still, as a black woman law student it is great to have someone who looks like me speaking so openly about this profession. I definitely look forward to your future updates and videos. 🎉🎉

Angela, I'm proud of you, I've watched your videos for years, but I've never left a comment. I was shocked when I saw your announcement video and I told my boyfriend that another attorney that I like is quitting to probably become a FT RUclipsr. I respect everyone's goals, but I was shocked to see that video from you, but could understand your reasons for wanting to leave. I truly hope that your new role makes you happy and I can't wait to continue watching the legal content!

Congratulations! Besides the billable hour requirement, what are other differences between private practice and in-house? Do you think its feasible for a new grad to transition to in-house counsel? I'm a 3L taking the bar in July, so any advice will be appreciated.

Congratulations! I have a few questions. How do the annual bonuses work in big law? Do you have to do extra hours to get them or is it based on how many deals you close during the year? Also, M&A seems kind of niche. So how did you navigate interviewing for non-M&A in house roles? Lastly, people always say that in house is a pay cut. Is that your experience? If so, by how much?

I'm debating leaving my first legal job. I'm definitely at the point (almost 7 years in) when I need to decide if I'm going to stay or move onto something else. My priorities are definitely different now than they were when I first started, and I'm starting to see that this job isn't compatible with the family life I want.

It can be scary to make the jump! There were many things about my previous job that i loved and even sometimes miss but I totally made the right decision particularly because my new job is compatible with my home life. I found out i was pregnant shortly after deciding to make the jump and I’m so glad I did because the work life balance was good and allowed me to have a low stress pregnancy. Good luck to you and go with your gut!!

Congrats on the new job! I have a kind of niche question about big law: I am currently a undergraduate student majoring in biochemistry and will be attending law school starting next fall. I would really like to go into Patent Law, but have heard conflicting things about big firm requirements to be a patent lawyer. Do you have to get a graduate degree in the field do you want to practice in, or is an undergraduate degree and a JD sufficient for practice? Thanks :)

My question is not really about transitioning into big law. I’m a second year associate working at a private practice insurance law firm. I am realllllly interested in transitioning into from a more litigious role to a more transactional role, but I don’t know how to make that move because my skill set is litigation forward. Any advice? I don’t want to get pigeon holed into insurance law because I’m not passionate about the work I’m doing. Help😢

Thank you for sharing; one question however. If someone leaves a big law firm, can they ever come back?
If they do, do they start at the same year and pay grade that they were at when they left?

Being an associate was too much work already. Becoming a partner means even MORE work, MORE sacrifices, and MORE compromises. The job doesn't change, but the person can change jobs. Many of the aspects of life outside of the job duties can pass by without you. Enough is enough. It's time to do more of you. Being in-house is such a relief, there is more predictability and you don't have those billable hour demands stressing you out. Congratulations on leveling up your life and bringing down your stress at the same time.
