As a practing attorney for 36 years, I can tell you that all a law school teaches you is how to think like an attorney and if your lucky, you will learn how to sit for and pass the bar. Law School teaches you nothing about the business of practice of law. Law school does not teach you that if there is an issue with a client, and the client complaints to the Ethics committee, you are pursumed guilty until proven business.

I retired 3 years ago after litigating for 40 years. You are absolutely right. I think the 3rd year of law school should be practical training in skills such as passing the bar, civility, ethics, managing time and client expectations, and self care. I never was interested in Big Law. I began my career as a criminal defense attorney and after one year, I moved to another State where I was a Legal Aid attorney for 30 years, and ended my career working in a small firm representing public entities. The summer after my 1L, I worked for a United Methodist Church social services agency where I came up with the idea of establishing a medical clinic in the so called Black ghetto which still exists today. Other than being a father, this was the most important accomplishment of my life.

@@TheAspiringBoss OMG!! i wasn't expecting your reply to be honest, I have one question please.... am a middle eastern girl live in Canada, i graduated high school in 2020 and this is my first year at university of Manitoba, i have been wanting and dreaming becoming a successful lawyer ( like you) since i was 15 yo, but i found out that i am yet confused about what i like to do in future and what i really want to become. i am a little bit scared of being a lawyer because English has been a challenging language for me to learn since i came to a new country (Canada) 3 years ago and i know as a law student we need to write a lot of papers and have the ability to debate strongly and effectively My question for you is: would you recommend someone like me (whos English their 4th language) to pursue and study law? or would it be hard or impossible to be successful? I would appreciate your response so much and i hope that you can answer my question (because I don't know any other lawyers that i can ask). Stay well, healthy and thanks for posting videos!!!
I will keep it honest, law school can be challenging so if you struggle with English and you go to law school in the states you might run into some frustration, HOWEVER, i would not let that stop you from chasing your dream. There are plenty of sources available to help with English and the good news is - legal writing is a different form of Writing and research is different from what is learned in college so everyone will have that portion of the learning curve! Hope this helps and thanks so much for your kind words 💕
Thank you. Decided to get an intro to law certificate through e Cornell. I want to test the waters to see if this works for me. Before I go for a degree.

i’m only a sophomore in high-school, so i still have a long way to go, but i am aiming towards working with children(foster children!!, abuse victims, etc) and being their advocate. what job title would that be exactly? i’ve done research and am still hesitant to name a specific job title without knowing the complete picture. would it be a child advocate attorney? besides that, this video was super helpful! thank you so much.
Syrina Vann hi thanks so much for watching! I would say look up the term “guardian ad Litem” those are people appointed by courts to serve on behalf of a child’s best interests. You might try a broader search of “child advocacy lawyer”
As an older person, this doesn't make law schools sound hard. It makes present-day college seem really watered down. No wonder so many Bachelor's Degrees people don't have any basic skills or capacity for rigor. Law School sounds like what college used to me (and should still be).

How do you feel about a Masters degree in Legal Studies, not a JD, where you can elect an emphasis? They are in law school and pay the high price for it, but no JD. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi, one of my biggest issues about law school and it’s paying for it. My question can you elaborate on the jobs if one doesn’t want to be a practicing attorney?
Hi! I was wondering if going to a law school that is low tier but is ranked high in the type of law you want to practice would still be good if you wanted to work at a large firm? I want to become a medical lawyer and the school has a highly ranked program but the overall rank is low.

Thank you and this was eye opening. I guess I should get in shape for law School
You’re welcome ☺️
Thank you. Decided to get an intro to law certificate through e Cornell. I want to test the waters to see if this works for me. Before I go for a degree.
Which certificate are you doing?
Everything you said sounds exciting. I am currently in my “hopefully “ last year of community college and transferring next year. Yay! Law school IM COMING FOR YOU 🗣🗣🗣🗣
An eye opener! Very informative. Thank you! Starting the admission process for next year.
Glad it was helpful!

You’re only going to get older. The time is going to pass you by anyway so use your time wisely (:
Thanks for video! Very informative. I am a Registered Nurse that has been contemplating this field. I m far from perfect though.

Superb advice I got more than 5 grades but then I just got aware of things I didn't anyways i plan to get into law school down the road soon
Thank you so much for your honest opinions and views! I love your channel!
Thank you so much!
i’m only a sophomore in high-school, so i still have a long way to go, but i am aiming towards working with children(foster children!!, abuse victims, etc) and being their advocate. what job title would that be exactly? i’ve done research and am still hesitant to name a specific job title without knowing the complete picture. would it be a child advocate attorney?
besides that, this video was super helpful! thank you so much.
Syrina Vann hi thanks so much for watching! I would say look up the term “guardian ad Litem” those are people appointed by courts to serve on behalf of a child’s best interests. You might try a broader search of “child advocacy lawyer”
The Aspiring Boss omg thank you so much! i’ve been thinking a lot about my future, so this helps. thank you!
15:55 Thankyou sooo much!! ❤️❤️❤️ It was much needed!! ❤️❤️❤️
I meet the worst person in my life while studying law worst part is i adored to study it….too much competition and animosity i quitt.
My ex was a law school student, and he was failing in it. He thought he was better than everyone for being a 1L.
As an older person, this doesn't make law schools sound hard. It makes present-day college seem really watered down. No wonder so many Bachelor's Degrees people don't have any basic skills or capacity for rigor. Law School sounds like what college used to me (and should still be).
Love your video. I just stumbled on it. You have really good insight and your tips were so helpful. I’m older and haven’t yet finished my bachelor’s degree. However, I will never give up aspiring to be a lawyer. I know that I can master law school and your video confirmed it. You’re so natural in your delivery of such vital information. Thank you so much. Please keep posting.
I love your content! I feel like you're a big sister! Thanks for the content on topics I never considered before applying to law school!
This was the most informative video on Law School I have seen so far! Definitely subscribing! ❤️
I’m only worried about that $150k debt I’ll most likely be in 🗿
I feel that! Definitely not a decision to make lightly.
@@TheAspiringBoss can you make good money after law school

Amazing video, thank you! Could you make a video about all the reasons it is amazing to be a lawyer?
I really loved this video, thanks so much💙
I loved the video ! I’m wondering What was your college major ? And does your major matter when it comes to law school?
My college major was Communication Studies. It does not matter for law school. My advice is major in something you enjoy and will do well in!
@@TheAspiringBoss me too . Omg what law school did you attend ?
Great information
Thx for this!
Thank you
You’re the best! I really appreciated your video, thank you so much! ❤️
New subber here, I have a question… when do we have to “no kidding” know what type of law we are going into for a career? Thanks great info you GON GUURL
Amazing video!!!
Great info!
Thank You so much for giving me ths heads up.❤💠🌺
Thank you for this 🤗
I'm going back for a second bachelor's degree in history (first one in communications) because I want to get into Tulane school of law.
I'm 27 and still live w/ my parents I feel as though I should just focus on becoming more independent but I had an Epiphany to go to law school.
Also you just gained a subscriber
How do you feel about a Masters degree in Legal Studies, not a JD, where you can elect an emphasis? They are in law school and pay the high price for it, but no JD. 🤷🏻♀️
I have no interest in being a lawyer but I love your videos! 😂
Thank you so much! I really need this
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you
Hi, one of my biggest issues about law school and it’s paying for it.
