  • This video will help you write your first Cabinet Vision User Created Standard (UCS). My goal in this video is to show you enough things to open your mind and imagination to the things that are possible with UCSs within Cabinet Vision. We will be working through an example of adding a bull nose to an adjustable shelf in this video.

    THANK YOU!!!! This is the most helpful Cabinet Vision UCS video I have ever found. Much appreciated that you go step by step and show a real time example of what is happening.

    This video was SO helpful, I need like 30 more. In August I was hired as a designer for a local custom cabinetry shop & have been quickly learning CV. My boss really wants me to learn the ins & outs of UCSs & to read that you are self taught as well gives me hope lol!

      You got this! All you really need to learn CV is a curious mindset that wants to figure things out, and a little time to learn. Thanks for the feedback! I have been crazy busy so I haven't had time to post lately but I have so many video ideas I want to get to yet.

    Great job my brother.
    Love the way you intruduce the viewer to the UCS system within CV.
    One question, How exactly did you learn to write UCS's, may I ask.
    Keep up the good work.
    I see your just starting out with your RUclips channel,
    here is wishing you great success with the channel my brother.

      Hi Raul, Thanks for the kind words. To answer your question, I worked at a cabinet shop that gave me an excellent opportunity to spend time researching and learning how to utilize Cabinet Vision. Without that, I would not have learned what I did.
      I spent a lot of time on the CV Support forum studying how others were doing things and I just started out with really simple UCSs and I learned something new each time I had a problem to solve.

    Great video. I’ve been using CV for a long time but I am still not great at UCS’s. There’s not much in the way of tutorials out there for writing them. A video explaining some of the terminology and symbols used would be awesome. For example, what is the difference between = and ==?
    I’m enjoying your videos. Keep them coming!

    • @myronwittmer

      Thanks John! I appreciate it. I do plan to do some more videos specifically in UCSs. I’ll put it on the list to dive into the terminology on one of them.

      == is for referencing, so like "if cab.dx == 3 then
      = is for eqals, so like "dx = 4"
      So the full statement might be
      For Each Board part
      if cab.dx == 10 then
      dx = 4
      end if

    Awesome vid. I need create a parts label with the cabinet finish. My thought process is to first see if the cabinet has a finish then concat the finish to the part name. Any advice?

      Label-it? Assembly sheets? Or through report center?

    Nice Tut. Question... there are modifications happening to both the shelf and bullnose. Eg: How does it know to take the edge off the shelf and not the BOARD part you are working with?

    • @myronwittmer
      @myronwittmer  2 года назад

      Great question. I didn't cover that in much detail.
      I'll try to explain it better here:
      The FOR EACH line is set to the Adjustable Shelf (AS), so that means that any action in the UCS is going to be applied to the adjustable shelf. However, when you are adding/DIMing a new part (in our case, we are adding a new BOARD) we can work directly on that new pat as long as we put BOARD. in front of it. So for example, we could adjust the boards banding by saying BOARD.BAND instead of just BAND.
      This only applies to parts we are adding in the same UCS we are working on. There are also more advanced methods to work on different kinds of parts by adding more parts the FOR EACH line.

    Hey you might not see this, I’ve got a couple question if you could know, I haven’t figured out how to add notes to cabinet vision i was wondering if you would know how to do that, I was also wondering I’ve seen some people do title blocks with all the cabinets measurements at the bottom on the face view their on wich looks pretty nice, I also wanted to know how to make the X’s for a wine rack on a cabinet,

    • @myronwittmer
      @myronwittmer  Год назад

      Oh that’s a good one. I feel your pain on that one. I remember seeing a discussion on the CV forum about this one too. Off the top of my head, it seems unlikely, but a lot of times, there’s a way to get it done. Maybe someone smarter than me can chime in on this one.

    Question
    If you have roughly 291 ucs in version 11 how many less could one get by with in 2022
    Are the newer versions much more powerful in customizations? Without UCS

    • @myronwittmer
      @myronwittmer  2 года назад

      Yes, you definitely can get by with less in the newer versions. The Connections Manager introduced in version 12 solves a lot of issues that earlier versions couldn’t handle without complex UCSs.

    can i ask about something little strange
    First - on my computer ( name of product is Solid essential |) is that's different ?
    Secound - i dont really see on my screen object tree , and i dont see to slide the screen to allow to see parts and 3d , also cant see on Utility the Editing UCS , only have on Utility Return Button & Connection
    Third - how there on top u have option or icon to import Sketchup file ?
    im so confused from each tutorial watching
    i thing i have wrong Version or somthing cuz as u know Cabinet vision they toke off the download and i contact them to have link from them ( NOTHING ) . so i keep search search and i found torrent file and i download it and i contact to have 30 day trial . and thanks for amazing tutorial and it give me information
    so if i found some answers thats could be help .
    My respect

    • @myronwittmer
      @myronwittmer  Год назад +1

      Solid essential is a very limited option, you can’t write UCSs or see the object tree. They used to sell CV in packages called Essential, Advanced, and Ultimate. They have now switched to more of a module based system. Unfortunately, with Cabinet Vision, they make you pay for all the nice to have features. You would have to talk to your sales rep to see how to get those features activated.

    oh dont waste time with any other software cabinet vision is the best for everything best cnc outout best reports(drawings) best labeling (direct to our labeling, it costs money but well worth it
    cv ultimate with s2m ultimate JUST My opinion nothing else comes close

    • @myronwittmer
      @myronwittmer  Год назад +1

      I agree with you wholeheartedly, with one condition. A shop that uses CV has to have someone on the team focused on learning everything they can about CV so they can get the most out of it.
      95% of shops don’t scratch the surface and therefore, they feel limited by it.

      Every software has pluses and minusesI worked on cabinet vision Topsolid wood, and solidworks with SWood system And I can say that each one is good in her own way
      There is no doubt that cabinet vision is a total package for design and production
      just to make clear - topsolid wood ןד a great unfulfilled promise, great design - bad reports (you have to make) and terrible production
