I've got to say, that workaround is pretty smart and the side-effect of the phantom home button is a pretty crazy/fun side-effect.

This is fascinating to me. I've been researching this stuff since my "nearly new" iPhone 7 got the home button/fingerprint ID error.
This was a wake-up call. I had visions of even fixing the break in the ribbon myself... at home... without any special equipment.
I know that I could replace just the button and forgo fingerprint ID but there are a lot of videos that make even that switch-out seem easier than it is. The only people I can find that would tackle that job will charge over $100 to do it.
I like to learn how to fix things but I don't think I could handle any of these fixes. It sucks because my phone is now worthless, despite the fact that everything else works perfectly.

Man, seeing you do something as simple as installing a home button, in a super professional environment, with gloves and tweezers and shit, makes me feel super inadequate doing 8 or more of these a day with my bare hands and some alcohol lmao
I really don’t like using gloves that much when it comes to repair. Still use them for Sanitation precautions now but whenever I’m repairing some *personal* device for fun, I hate using them since my hands get sweaty as hell

Last year I was trying to fix a 6’s touch id (bought it dead, selling it without touch id was a bummer). The sensor itself is powered by the 1v8 and 3v0 lines the whole time and as soon as you lay your finger on top of the sensor 16v comes to life (i guess that’s why features like reachability). It’s a smart move for people with completely busted home buttons
Just a heads up. If you're keyboard is not showing. Try pressing and holding the home button while in a text window. For example, got to safari and press on the address bar then press and hold the home button. The keyboard should then pop up. Press and hold again and it will disappear.

When it needs a new home button to be able to boot, and a adaptor home button solves the problem, wouldn't it be possible to solder in the contents of the adaptor directly into the phone, tapping the appropriate lightning connector points? Can't seem to find any videos of athe internals of the adaptor, but can't imagine it's fully packed in there?

Hi Jason have you ever tried to bond old home button with new one or a donor button providing the original button part is still functioning by slicing along trace lines scrape of coating on both and bond them so the pcb will still recognise the original button

i replace screen and home button doesnt work, but touch id works. How to explain that?
Installed one yesterday on an iPhone 8+, and apart from having to make sure the black foam is totally removed from around the home button flex connector on the board, it was easy, and works brilliantly. The fact it also allows you to take screen shots and also double click to swipe apps closed, I was impressed.
Does the onscreen keyboard work for you when the button is connected on bluetooth? My onscreen keyboard doesn't work popup when I tap on a text field, wondering if I have a defective one or it's all flawed like this.

Hey this style of aftermarket button is way outdated. The newer aftermarket buttons don't use Bluetooth and function much like the original button (but without touch ID)

Well installed the button -- but when activated via bluetooth i have no keyboard on a input field anymore - deactived the jc homebutton from bluetooth and the keyboard is back - on iphone 8 with 12.1.4 - i guess bleutooth see's it as mouse and keyboard?

That lightning home button adapter is nice to have on hand. To share a tip with any shop or person who doesn't have one: If you can access the phone in iTunes after a restore or update go to the Summary Tab > Under Options click "Configure Accessibility" then turn on VoiceOver. You can then touch the "Press Home.. blah blah" text selecting it then double tap it to unlock the phone.
Hi, I changed the home button on an iPhone 7 Plus to a JC home button. It worked fine. I restored the phone and it shows me the "Hello" screen and "Press home to open" message. If I press the JC home button nothing happens. Can anyone help me, please?

Anyone else have issues where you can’t double tap after installing or hold got Siri? If so is there a fix for it?
So, with the JC home button paired, are you still able to connect your iPhone to, say, a bluetooth speaker? I feel like to be able to truly seemlessly integrate a home button like this, you would need to hook directly to Apple's connectors, otherwise you wouldn't be able to pair with hands-free devices, speakers, controllers, etc.
You can pair to multiple devices on iOS, i can be linked too my car stereo and also sync it too my Apple watch at the same time

Question.. I have an iPhone 7, a friend brought it to replace the lightning port that he bought himself, and after replacing it everything was working ok, but the mic was bad, so i opened the phone again, aaand long story short, now the home button is acting up, when you press it, instead of a single click, it clicks like crazy (you dont even have to press it, most of the time it reacts on the lightest touch).. sometimes it doesnt click at all, but the fingerprint/double tap is working fine all the time.. and i noticed that the little ic on the home button flex is getting REALLY HOT (i think its marked U10). Sooo, my question now is, should i try and replace the IC? Is that IC responsible for the clicking/back part of the button, and NOT the fingerprint part? Please help :/
Ok, replaced it. It works now... It was U10, the ic on the home button flex.. The back click is now working perfectly.

Finally a solution for the stupid home buttons those cables are so brittle dependin g on what elements they were exposed to they often just snap because they have no bend left in them.
I just got few delivered and the problem with it was that it needs to be connected to bluetooth all the time which is upsetting however for a customer atleast something is working
You have to give them 100% for the smart way of getting around the problem :-D
For ordinary use im sure it will be fine, the owner will be happy it is still usable :-D.
If home button doesn't work you can connect to iTunes and activate Accessibility for VoiceOver control. Once you have Voice over activated thru iTunes you can manually control the broken home button! Hope you find this helpful as Ive used this method on iPhones 7-8

I got mine from Union Repair, Qianli and iPad Rehab Supply. There are a lot of places to buy them though. If you google iPhone DC power squid it should turn up a bunch of them.
On the iPhone 7 can the home button be replaced and dose it have to be programmed?
Only Apple can replace and program a new one to be 100% working. When they replace a screen, it’s included. The aftermarket buttons will work for a home button only but not all of them connect or work the same.
I was dubious of the 'press in jumper' too .....
I ordered and installed myself on iPhone 7, it works. but there was a problem the keyboard does not appear when the button is connected via Bluetooth
While in a text window hold the home button and the keyboard will pop up. So for example go to messages and touch the text window and then hold the home button and the keyboard will show. Hold the home button again and the keyboard will disappear.
Will it get you through Press to Update if already paired?

Apple doesnt allow touch id on replacement home buttons, and in the 7 and above they don't allow home button use at all
you can swipe up from the lock screen on a iphone 6s and turn blootooth on i do not know about the iphone 7 but if so it is a good fix

on the 6s you can swipe up the control panel from the lock screen and turn bluetooth on that way does it not do that on the iphone 7 plus if so that button is a good fix

@Just ME Onlyme if you have a oem battery installed it will go back to normal ifixit batteries are missing the thing the iphone uses to detect the battery health my 6s did the same and as soon as i replaced it with a oem lion battery off ebay which cost me over ten pound it cured it
STS Telecom I definitely agree that the jumper flex isn’t a perfect fix, but originally they had it as a soldered jumper but Justin who runs the art of repair channel told them hey guys most shops don’t microsolder. So they came up with an option. If you can solder it then damn straight do so.
When you install the button and try to use it, you’ll notice that the keyboard is gonna disappear every time you have the home button connected, you just need yo restart all settings and it’ll work.
My phone is not responding to the external button.
That’s a Bunchhhhaaa work. All I did was replace my screen and the button stopped working. The button is perfectly fine. The cables are perfectly fine. It worked for all of 3 seconds and then stopped. Now it won’t work at all. It’s telling me it can’t use I touch

Open safari, touch on the address bar, then press and hold the home button, the keyboard should pop up. Press and hold again and it should disappear again.

If you need press home to update , then just connect the phone to itunes , go to accessibility on itunes and turn on voice over, then all you have to do on the phone is to tap on the text that says press home to update and then tap twice again on the text and it will work ! if the phone has a passcode then i dont know if itunes will connect the device !

why use this Bluetooth home button over an aftermarket one that connects physically..?
On the iPhone 7 and 8 if either flex going into the home button are damaged, you lose both touch AND function and because it's a daughter part, an aftermarket will no longer click or wake screen along with no touchID. This is because it's a haptic sensor not a tactile clicking button.
There is an issue that needs covered by someone. Because it's a bluetooth home button, you lose your virtual keyboard functionality when you have bluetooth on. Basically, you can't use this device AND your keyboard without turning your bluetooth on and off. I think I have a solution for this using something like the lightning connected home button, but I'm still prototyping.

Wouldn't this be more of a battery drain since it will now have to be constantly connected to Bluetooth?
I was worried about that too but my dc power supply could not detect the load so it’s under 10mA. So it might use 1% of battery in 1~2 days or something.
@@ststele Major win for those with faulty home buttons. Yeah, Touch ID won't work, but at least home button functionality is returned and at a minimal cost to the battery life.

Ah now I get it. The OEM button has an ID chip, and if it breaks this is a replacement.
