    So happy to hear from a foreigner how beautiful the mountain views are here in Baguio. We hope this will bring more realizations to greedy politicians, those who aim to develope the city by bringing in realtors building more houses and buildings that will soon erase the beautiful mountain views. We don’t need any more buildings, we need more trees.

    Enjoying your trip to Baguio! I was stationed at Clark AB there in the Philippines 86 to 91. Camp John Hay was an Air base primarily for recreation. As a cop I was able to do temporary duty there a few times. It's changed alot though. Made it a civilian resort area. Nights are cool there but nice. Take care and Thanks!

    Glad you enjoyed your stay. If you think the Mountain views in the city are beautiful,then you are in for a wonderful surprise if you go to the municipalities around and surrounding the city. For instance in Atok and all along the road leading to the neighboring province, literally called Mountain Province, are breathtaking views of mountains, valleys and clouds.
    Be warned though the temperature there can be cold. Its not uncommon for the temperature there to drop to the the single digits. (And I'm referring to them in degrees Celsius by the way for you out there accustomed to Fahrenheit)
    In fact the temperature there gets so cold, during certain times of the year, that frost starts to form. So pack your jackets if ever you plan on visiting there.
    Anyway wish you God speed and happy trails. 😁👍

    The extraordinary view of mountains you saw from CJH actually are mountains of Itogon municipality, south of Benguet Province. It is the mining district developed by the Americans in 1905. Indigenous peoples are still doing small-scale mining and two large-scale mine continue to operate.

    • @Thigsy
      @Thigsy 2 года назад

      There's a tour for mining... Forgot the name... You go inside the mining facility... See where they process the gold ores they mined. Then they tour you inside the tunnels... Was fun but scary at the same time. This was way back 90s... Dunno if they still do it.

    Camp John Hay used to be a US Military Base it serves as an RnR for US DOD Civilians and US Forces in Philippines back in 70s to 90s The Facility was handed over to the Philippine Government back in 1990s from what I remember the remaining US Facility within The John Hay Area is the American Residences which is like near more uphill part of the Old Camp but I’m afraid you can’t go there since it’s a US Government Property and Regular Civilians are not allowed unless they have a special permit or some sort. Nice video by the way :)) stay safe Marshall!

    I like your videos, Marshall. Having said that, I would also like to add that you have some advantage over the local vloggers because you are a white foreigner and you are in the Philippines where people are so hospitable to foreigners, especially white foreigners. An example of this is you being able to video all over the Manor in Camp John Hay even if you are not checked in into that hotel. No local would be able to do that. They will be questioned by security and, when found that they are not checked in guests of the hotel, will be told to immediately leave. Nobody even bothered you one bit when you videotaped all over the hotel. Haha.

    When we booked there at the Manor a few years ago, I got really excited. You're greeted immediately by friendly staff and get to experience top notch quality service (locals usually don't get topnotch service) you won't experience elsewhere. Upon getting to the room, the biggest downer of my life. No air-conditioning. Luckily, a very huge storm was about to make landfall in 8 hours. It helped avoid what could've been a forgettable stay. It got so chilly that night that we even had to close the windows. But I have to agree this is one of the nicest hotels in the Philippines you can ever stay. Even doubly nicer at night at their garden. The forest lodge on the other hand is owned by them but rooms are cheaper but exactly the same set up as that of the Manor.

    • @marshallbuttersvlogs6880

      @@marshallbuttersvlogs6880 Glad it seems you are enjoying the city! John Hay looks very different now. Back in the 90s when I was a kid, it resembled an American suburb. There even used to be a playground, a video game arcade, a soccer field and an ice cream parlour and a swimming pool but when the Americans left, John Hay started to decay. Hope the city steps their game up. There is so much to Baguio, you should visit the mansion, probably visit the Philippine Military Academy. I grew up there back in the late 60's-70's, used to go to the Base Library to borrow LP's (Journey, Boston, Robin Trower, Zappa etc) and go to the skating rink, eat burgers at the Bowling lanes ( they put cherries in my soda, 7-Up). Had romantic moments in the Italian Gardens, there was also a live band at the 19th Tee ( Disco era) and Bingo at night , big hometown draw. The Base was open to Locals, the only catch is everything is in $$$$, no pesos. Sunday Brunch was $3.50, exchange was $1=P7 or something close to that, I lost 35 lbs ,(which I gained at CJH) after Army Basic training at Ft Dix. Back in the days, as kids, we walked all over, to Dominican Hill, Mt Sto Tomas, Mines View, PMA, La Trinidad, I don't remember riding jeeps ( we had no money) we hiked, climbed mts and explored cavesI think we were crazy adventurous kids maybe that's why I ended with the 10th SFG!

    Go to Mt.Povince in Sagada promise you will love the place. But of course you need to be like the locals as far as I know there’s no fast food there. But you will love the place.

    My favorite restaurant in Baguio. You can call them to order food for pick-up. It’s not within Camp John Hay indeed. But it’s so close. Just down the road (Paterno Street) is Baguio Country Club and next to it is Camp John Hay already.

    tweet: Well done Mr. Marshall, you made it all the way to the upper north part of the country -- Mt. Ifugao. The weather is usually much cooler in the summit; especially in winter -- Dec - January. Good to see you back strolling around Camp John Hay Park -- known once as a favorite place for golfers. Enjoy the rest of your vacation. be blessed. jan2022.
