Baguio is the best, but because people are so humble it doesn't get the attention that it really deserves. Like a hidden gem. Baguio has its own unique charm that is very wonderful vibes throughout the entire city of Pines. It's truly a blessed area of the Philippines, the best.
My wife and I vacationed two times in Baguio back in 1978 and then in 1979. In 78 we were there just two days after Christmas, and during the several days in Baguio, early mornings found frost on the grass! Loved it! Back then we stayed both times in Camp John Hay, in a small two bedroom cabin with a fine rock fireplace. Our 'house keeper' was a middle aged man, and he kept firewood next to the fireplace, and in the afternoons he served as our sightseeing guide as Lina and I rented a car from the car rental on base. We went to a couple fantastic markets, the Philippine Military Academy, Mines View Park, several very nice residential subdivisions (got us past the armed gate guards), and a half dozen other sights. At the end of the day each day we dropped him off near his home and made sure he had a paper sack full of food items for dinner. In all those years, Lina and I still talk about Baguio and especially Amo -- one of the finest people I've met anywhere.
Thanks for visiting Baguio its such a different vibe that we don't appreciate everyday , we only realize it when we work in a different city and we miss the cold weather the kind people , I hope you get to visit my hometown Mt. Province , Sagada has a lot of good spots, actually everything in my hometown is picture perfect ohhh I miss home
Marshall, this is the way you draw a rectangle in the air: start with both points of your index fingers - plus both points of your thumbs - touching each other. (The index fingers are supposed to be parallel with the thumbs.) Then slowly separate both pairs of touching fingers to draw an imaginary rectangle until the point of your left index finger touches the point of your left thumb, and the point of your right index finger touches the point of your right thumb. Hope that makes sense. 🙂 That's how the restaurant staff in Philippine restaurants know you're asking for the bill. The people who advised you were correct. 🙂
You should draw the square using your two hands, forming a diamond first with both your thumbs and index fingers first then pulling them apart, then pinching them both at the same time.
Hi sir how I miss Baguio thank you for the quick tour and hope enjoy and please stay safe and don't talk to strangers don't trust anybody being Filipina here we need to be observed the people u will Talk with..thank u also being nice to women vendor outside the cafe hope they treated u as well Godbless,
Mate, about the check thing. There is a particular way to miming asking for the check. You don't draw a square using your pointer fingers. Rather, you first make the L shape with the pointer fingers and thumbs of both hands, then put the pointer to the pointer and the thumbs together, making a diamond shape. Pull your fingers apart whilst maintaining the L shape, then abruptly pinch your pointers to your thumbs. A square shape will be mimed by doing this. Make sure the server is looking at you. They will understand you are asking for the check.
This is the proper way to do it, or rather than a square, it's a rectangle. It's kinda old school though, but that's how I learned to do it for decades so I'll keep using it, the new generation tend to just draw a check mark.
Next time try Peredos lodging House in Baguio. It's a wood cabin house with several rooms . Biggest room i believe is on the 2nd floor with your own big balcony overlooking the front garden. Lots by trees around. There's a reception counter on the first floor.
about drawing the square, try doing it with your thumb and pointing finger. like drawing a square from the top and bottom going sideways. that is a very filipino way of asking for your tab. :)
I love the Quote cafe. Very nice of you Mr Butters to show us around scenic Baguio. Enjoyed the video with price list and detailed info. Stay safe 😷 and enjoy your vacay 🏕
Joy Bus is the best ride going to Baguio. I think you've got a very decent hotel to stay and we'll just wait for the next resto you'll feature. Thanks for this latest vlog!
Wow back to beautifull Baguio...most go there to unwine and enjoy...nice sceneries, weather, places, beautifull people and since you love food the best place to eat...miss my home.:)
make a square using 2 hands. using the thumb and pointing fingers. start in the middle (top and bottom) going to the edge (of the imaginary square) then close it (both hands thumb and point fingers meet)
You have to form a rectangle using both hands. Using both hands, Form a diamond by putting the pointers and thumbs together, pull the hands apart, then close the rectangle by making the pointer and thumb of each hand touch each other
Mate. Draw half a square using your index finger and thumb. Start with the middle of the square and draw your index and thumb parallel then finish it with connecting the tips of your index and thumb together. Dont just draw a square using your index. Trust me that would work.
Thank you for visiting again Baguio city my birthplace and where I lived for almost 55years.. I am so lucky I was born raised and educated and worked there in the city of Baguio . There's no place like home..
welcome back! a place to visit suggestion for a quick coffee and a uniquely designed place here in baguio: ILILIKHA. You can't miss it on assumption road. It's carved inside a huge tree.
Marshall--try putting your two index fingers at the imaginary top center of a square shape. Make the square shape with your fingers meeting at the bottom. I hope this gesture for the bill/chit works for you!:) Glad to see that you made it to Baguio in spite of the few mishaps. Looking forward to more adventures. This cafe seems great!
Hmmm... who was that tardy Aussie who kept the bus waiting? Someone said the guy looked just like Christoph Waltz! Heyyyyy... wait a minute! Well, I wish I were in Baguio again with my Filipina wife. Took a weekend trip to Baguio with a bunch of Navy officers back in 1990. Was sooo much fun, and everything about the place was just about perfect: 9.5 out of 10. Food, local people, weather, sights, laughs, the entire experience. Returned about a decade ago with my wife and her sister for a visit of several days. Again... pure wonderfulness. Looking forward to watching your adventures (as always!). -- Salute from a U.S. Navy retired chief petty officer.
Very nice of you to buy from the woman who sells Oranges and Lanzones (you should've tried the Lanzones). It's really nice to see a Tourist supporting small vendors.
When asking for the bill, draw a rectangle in the air using two fingers. Use your thumb and index finger. Start by Drawing two parallel lines using two fingers then two fingers will meet therefore drawing a rectangle but missing one side.
Today visited the quotes cafe in Baguio and had the the chicken and pesto panini Excellent then went to the market and brought a half kilo of arabica beans thanks for the heads up 😊
Hi marshall glad you are back here in baguio. You should try going to other places like mines view park, strawberry farm and try horseback riding at wright park. Also have a sip of cofee in foam coffee which is really near the cafe by the ruins that you also visited before. Have fun and be safe!
Hi Marshall, just an update, farmers daughter is now open to serve customers, you can now enjoy authentic cordilleran food at a very affordable price. enjoy brother!
We live in baguio but never been to some places you went to, just like “oh my gulay on your last visit” I’ve never known that place not until I’ve seen it on your video, thank you for sharing the experience, now we gotta try this cafe ☺️☺️☺️
we stayed in the same hotel last december. nice location but i hate that they dont have a wardrobe and chair especially that the room is considerably big. you should try to head to sagada. i think it’s already open to tourists. i miss that place. would love to see it on your vlogs.
The bill gesture is drawing a rectangular shape about the size of a paper bill using both the thumb and index finger in a pinching motion as if you were forming a frame with both the aforementioned fingers. Drawing a rectangle with just the index finger pointed is the gesture for the menu.
I am glad that you are enjoying the cool weather of Baguio…it seems you’re traveling alone… would have been fun too if you have a crew with you. Enjoy the jumbo strawberries…the smell of pine especially if you do early walk in Camp John Hay. I’m excited at where your feet will take you in your adventure. Since you mentioned that you’re booked in that hotel for 9 nights, it means you’ll be all over Baguio. …looking forward for the Baguio adventure part 2!😃
They speak and understand English there in Baguio City very well... did my university years at SLU there in the '70s. You will enjoy Baguio! God bless!
Hi Marshall, thanks.for.blogging Baguio again. We really miss going to Baguio and eating there in Good taste. Did you know that other than having 3 floors they are open 24 hours. Just imagine how many customers they serve.Food their taste really good plus affordable.
Hey! I see that you’re back in Baguio. If you’re still there at sunday I highly recommend going to session rd, there would be a lot of chalk art there. I also would like my friends from Baguio who draws the chalk art to get featured on your vlog! :D
instead of one hand gesturing a square for the bill, use your two hands (pointer and thumb fingers meet) then slowly form a square ending like a pinch on both hands.
Motioning making a square shape when asking for the bill is correct. We, Filipinos, do that. You have to use your two hands though. Your left pointing finger should touch your right pointing finger. Do the same with your thumb. And you will a square. Your fingers should be moving or in motion though. That's how we ask for the bill
Missing my hometown. Thanks for posting this video. Hope you can stay until March cause i heard they are opening the Panagbenga supposedly on February but they move it this coming March. Enjoy your stay there. Have fun
Yey! You're back in Baguio! Watched all of your Baguio vlogs from your last trip early this year. Getting tips as well for nice eating places, my siblings and cousin will be there this April 2-4.
Marshall, you worked hard to make entertaining vlogs and you are on your way to RUclips stardom and your RUclips play button. You may soon be able to just live off of RUclips revenue and deals. Congrats.
You've come to the right place, Quoted is one of the best choices for coffee for us locals. ☕🙌. Glad to have you back here in the City of Pines, Kakabsat!😀

Baguio really has a different vibe from all the other cities in the PH. Its as if you're in a different country
😂
POSITIVE VIBE
Thanks for visiting Baguio its such a different vibe that we don't appreciate everyday , we only realize it when we work in a different city and we miss the cold weather the kind people , I hope you get to visit my hometown Mt. Great! Another adventure in the City of Pines!
Looks beautiful Marshall, and you are correct!!! Make the shape of a check and say bill out .
I'm glad you're back in Baguio to continue to share your travel with us !
I love how you tell the prices on your viewers. We have an idea.

or just do a gesture of writing a check mark.
I was looking for this comment, perfectly instructions 😄

Agree! The square sign works but this works better!
The sign for your bill or chit is basically a small rectangle (less the left side) and you just need to use your thumb and index finger. 😉👌
Next time try Peredos lodging House in Baguio. It's a wood cabin house with several rooms . Biggest room i believe is on the 2nd floor with your own big balcony overlooking the front garden. Lots by trees around. There's a reception counter on the first floor.
Welcome back. I'm from Baguio. 🙏
oh i like that bus u dnt get bored becoz it has its own tv at the back of the seat u can watch anytime esp. when u are travelling long distances.
about drawing the square, try doing it with your thumb and pointing finger. like drawing a square from the top and bottom going sideways. that is a very filipino way of asking for your tab. :)

The bill gesture is drawing a rectangular shape about the size of a paper bill using both the thumb and index finger in a pinching motion as if you were forming a frame with both the aforementioned fingers. Drawing a rectangle with just the index finger pointed is the gesture for the menu.

Re the bill gesture you should actually use your pointer finger and thumb on both hands in a pinching sort of motion to draw a rectangle in the air.
Waiting for your next adventure, Marshall.
