    Hey man, been loving your videos since I found them a week ago. Really appreciate not relying on over editing or cliche humor to keep people's attention. Absolutely great stuff

    I like how you take away the rocket launcher in the air strafe tutorial. It makes me think there could be some puzzle levels that limit the amount of rockets at your disposal, or give you a better score the fewer rockets you use.

    there is nothing better to see a videogame i dont want to play, but watching with interest the video because the game is clearly made with love.

    Hell yeah dude. I didn't think someothing like this would go on. I saw ur first devlog when it was the only one out and was worried this might not pan out but I tell u what I might see if I can be the first person to get 1k hours when ur game comes out. I love rocket jumping. Shit if I had to choose a gtameplay loop to do for the rest of my life it would be rocket and sticky jumping.

    No, just make the "shoot rockets earlier" hint explicit if you've failed that tutorial jump.

    very interesting project, as someone who mains soldier i would enjoy a game like this.
    if i could sugest something it would be to make a unique rocket launcher to give your game more of a personality of its own, maybe a cross between tf2's stock rocket launcher and quake's?

    If you want to get more detailed with your audio design, I'd recommend Reaper. It's called DAW software, standing for Digital Audio Workstation. You can do synthesis, or just effects on pre-recorded stuff; There's a lot of freedom.

      Also there's Wwise as an audio engine for your runtime. If you're using Unity it can be automatically integrated, and it is much better than what Unity offers by default.

    Really cool project. Was surprised to see this popup since I'm also working on a minimalist style jump game (normal jumps rather than rocket jumping). Look forward to see how this turns out.

    If you want to keep airstrafing in the game while making it easier you can just allow people to hold w while strafing

    now uh... how can I sign up to playtest? :P

      @CheddarEssays  4 месяца назад +1

      In retrospect I should have made this more clear, but when I reference my playtesters I'm only talking about my friends who I get to play the game, and who I deeply trust to not leak anything. I'm not expecting to have any beta tests one can sign up for, so sorry if that's a disappointment.

    Not trying to be hater but I feel like the low end of those sound effects is a little muddy and weird sounding to me.
    Maybe it could have to do with your audio equipment not letting you hear the low end very much? Or maybe it would sound better if you don't apply reverb to the low end? Just an idea. I hope it might be helpful in some way.
    Your voice sounds really cool and calming.

      The gameplay is super satisfying to watch, it's great!
      I love first person movement games, but most of them are multiplayer and I don't like that. I loved the Titanfall 2 campaign. This looks really awesome

    I think you should try a bit harder to avoid directly telling the player how to do anything
    And have the level design itself force them to learn the tricks and methods without realizing their learning
    Hand holdy level design isnt very fun, especially when its telling you how to do things in plain text
    It feels way better when you feel like you figured it out yourself

    • @spaceowl5957
      @spaceowl5957 4 месяца назад

      I thought the same thing, but I guess it depends on the game. If the execution is still interesting and challenging and fun it should be okay to show you a video of how to do it in advance.
      But if you want to make the movement techniques themselves a sort of puzzle then maybe it would be nice to have more vague hints at first and then be able to get a more detailed explanation if you don't want to keep trying to figure it out yourself.

    • @CheddarEssays
      @CheddarEssays  4 месяца назад

      I give my more detailed rationale for why I'm going ahead with this sort of tutorial in the third devlog, but the quick summary is that there are mechanics in Source movement (air strafing specifically) that I can't expect new players to discover on their own in a silent tutorial. For instance, when I had one of my friends test the game before I added text to the tutorials, they didn't realize on their own that jumping just as you fire would give a higher jump, and those are the sorts of people that I'm designing the tutorials for (and this friend has plenty of experience with games and FPS games specifically). I would love to make the tutorials silent, but the mechanics of Source's advanced movement just don't mesh with that approach. I'm trying to minimize hand holding as much as possible even though I can't make the dedicated tutorials silent, which is why there are still things that are somewhat silently taught in the map itself, like moving left and right while climbing walls or jumping between multiple walls.
