In this video we're snowboarding in Cardrona New Zealand and I've got 5 tips for setting up your snowboard.
So helpful. I’ll be using this video as a reference when I put my bindings back on my board hopefully the right away this year!
Something that helped me huge was actually having the width between bindings just more than shoulder width. I had the wrong idea when I was learning that a wider stance meant more stability, but the closer my feet were to the contact points at the end of the camber shape, the more I'd catch edges. Let the board balance you out, not your wide stance!
How much is “just more”? 2 inches or so?
Very good video . Short and very informative. 👍 subscribed
Just got a new board and this will help so much, thank you! Haven't ever setup my own board, makes me wonder how many adjustments I should have made on my own board, jeesh!
Kevin, do you mind making a video or explaining here on what side of board to get when buying one, and when should we choose a wide board?
I’m setting up a board right now and this was super helpful, thanks!
hey kev! i’d love to see you review the clew step on bindings
Another thing for width of bindings. Bend your leg 90 degrees and measure from the ball of your foot to the top of the knee. Most likely wont exactly line up to the holes, but pick the closest one
I found this video while looking for remedies to ankle pain. Been riding for 10 years and this just started last season. I got new boots and didn’t help much. Not sure if maybe I just need to strengthen my ankles before riding again.
So hype for snowboard season to start just copped a new board, I have my own set up and ride style and was curious to see how you set up your board
If I would like to do cab and switch tricks in the Park, should I also go for a directional stance or am I better of with centred stance?
Sick tips Kevin! Nidecker has a video on stance width that I found pretty helpful when I was getting started! They say that to measure from the center of your knee-cap to the floor (edit: without your boot on) to get your “natural” stance width, then to adjust based on riding style
Maybe as a starting point but you gotta try different widths to find your stance. I’m the same height as my buddy but when we sit down he is taller. His torso is longer, my legs are longer. We don’t have the same preferred stances widths and we experimented. You gotta try different widths, it’s the only way
@@szaret1 eaxactly.. you’re legs are different lengths, meaning the distance from the knee to the floor is different for each of you.. meaning you would more than likely prefer different stance widths
If all of the other variables between you and your buddy are relatively similar (weight, preferred stance angles, and riding style) I would be willing to bet money that since you have longer legs, you probably use a wider stance than your buddy does
@@gageinoc I’m sure in a lot of cases you’re right…. I’m 165lbs 6ft. He’s 175 5”11. My hip line is like 3 inches above his so yea my knee to foot length is longer but I ride a narrower stance. It make sense because I’m thinner of waist. For me to widen my legs would be more difficult for me. Come to think of it, it would make sense if stance width had to do with the width of your hip sockets.
Anyway my point is the only way to truly know is try. Weight distribution, shoulder widths, strength, all this has to do with what stance width you prefer. You can’t just measure your elbow to your forearm or knee to foot lol that’s just some shit people say.
Without boots on
For width and angles, I usually have them do a squat like at the gym on the board. Put the bindings right there. That's a good starting point. Then strap in at home and feel it out. The arm thing is cool though. I've never seen that.
What’s so cool about it? There’s no logic to it at all. Same height people have different arm lengths. It makes no sense
@@szaret1 I guess it's just a starting point. Most people are the same height as their arm span. I'd still use the squat method I pointed out above.
@@ryanweddle6745 Squat method makes the most sense if you want to get a rough estimate because you're actually performing the squat action. But even that you have to do in boots with bidings on because you' squat differently barefoot than all strapped in. The only way is to experiment. Narrow it down to 3 stances and cycle between those. Giving a few runs or hours to each, maybe even going back to some. Whatever you gotta do until you find that aha moment. But not measure your elbow to hand lol. Common now
Hey thanks for a video and I would like to ask what would be best angles for all mountain style of ride ? Ty
should i have the highback further back if i’m going to be doing butters and jibs more?
Hey Man, Nice vid! I have a little question. I can see in the vid that your gaspedal has a slight overhang on the toe side.. Doesn't that give you problems? I have a Large binding with a size 11.5 us boot. When i try to center the whole thing.. i get a slight overhang of the gaspedal as well. I've seen several other movies where they say that it can touch the edge but never overhang? what's your take on the issue? thanks in advance!
Repetition is how i learnt. Now its nothing to set it up and easy to make changes on the fly but you can only dial it in through trial and error 😊
Very good, did not know about the binding adjustments and highback angle. Is there a different function for different highback settings or is positive 6 degrees something you should always use?
There’s never anything you should use based on what someone else uses. I would venture to say that the starting high back angle is a bit lackadaisical, as he mentioned.
But realistically it’s something you’d have to try for yourself.
One thing that troubles me every year is, where my straps are more proper to look at. Inside or outside?
I have a goofy stance. My right foot at the front. If i change to a directional stance, would it not make my switches more difficult?
Essentially a new rider here, if I know I ride goofy should I gear it for directional riding or should I keep it centered for practicing both directions ? Appreciate any insight you can offer. Thanks for vids :)
Keep it centered at first. Experiment once you've got the basics down and can ride down the mountain with some speed.
I am beginner and I can ride both stances, but my natural stance is regular. I can jump/pop on flat surface, spin 360, and perform basic “tricks” like that.
I purchased a Nitro Prime, a directional twin-tip board. Should I set it up as directional or go for the classic twin-tip configuration? I'm unsure because the screw holes are slightly more towards the tail. What do you suggest?
Clutch 🏂
Hi what do you mean negative 9 if it’s right to the cero ?
Well, I'm struggling with a different problem- I have exact same bindings as yours + Burton Ruler Boa Boots, and I have no idea how to tighten/ strap the bindings. They feel either too loose, and there's too much movement, or I get to the point, where they hold my boots properly, but it's so tight that I can't feel my feet after 5 minutes...
can you make a video for intermediate snowboarder? Like tips on how to progress or something like that.. Love your videos tho^^
I got some tips. Ankle steering...try using nothing your ankles or feet to transition from heel edge to toe edge. Bend your knees and hips but focus on only lifting your toes/heels to get on edge. Also mess around with your hips. Ride and turn with your hip over your front leg. This will help alot since most people start out riding back dominant. Advanced riders initiate each turn with their front foot
You just gotta get comfortable full sending now
what are those pants! I need them
Hey Kevin! Do you have to wax a brand new snowboard before you ride it the first time? Or is the factory wax okay? Thanks!
Factory wax is fine. I'd even recommend you do nothing to the bottom at first.
I have some salomon bindings wich highback can’t be alined with the board
Some bindings don’t align
I’ve heard three or four different ways on how to mount your bindings. One guy says to measure from the ground to the middle of your knee and that’s how wide they should be, and he saying you should measure from your fist to your elbow which one is it?
What are those pants?
If I know my stance but want to do park should I setup my angles with +15 and -15 or maintain the +18 and -9?
Try out the twin stance for park.
What is your fav stance?
I’ve rode 12-15 duck for my entire life and I’ll never stop.
Just got the new evil twin plus in a 154 and had a question about the set up. I wear a boot size 11 and am wondering if there’s a way at home to test if I need a wide?
Size 11 boot your gonna need wide. Usually a boot size size that is bigger then 10.5 your gonna need a wide board.
@@onry714oc damn sucks cause I weigh nothing lmao wide boards are too much for me. Gonna try to stick it out
As a new snowboarder if we don’t know goofy or regular, when we don’t have the same distance from bindings to nose or tail how we understand ? 😏😟
it seems like my SnowBoard Boot sticks out a little past my board on the Toe Side , does this mean maybe i need a Wider board ?
Let me know when you know mine is also stickinh out. I have a women board tho😅
what do you think about highback rotation?
You can definitely do it, to line up your high backs with your edge. To be honest I didn’t notice much of a difference when I did it.
Set up for deep snow?
Did not know the arm technique for finding your width! Will try
It’s a silly technique. Everybody’s limbs are different sizes. People that are the same height will have different arm lengths Start out on the reference stance and move out and in to figure out what’s comfy for you. Only way is through trying different widths
@@szaret1 you seem to reply everyone’s questions 👀 Kevin will start paying you and provably learn from you . 🙄🙄
@@TheValbunnys he should pay someone to teach him. Guys telling people their stance width is determined by the length of their elbow to fist. Just think about how little sense that makes
If you have a twin tip board, and want to progress riding switch, would you still set up a directional stance?
That hair is on fleek!
Anyone else rocking Zero Forward Lean at all times?..
Chuck you rock 0!? I know for some people it works better. TJ also rocks 0
@@SnowboardProCamp Yes, 0 for me haha... i tryed it once, liked it and never changed it back. I find it helpful when I want to ride flat based in a neutral relaxed stance. Before I found heel edge engaging when I didnt want it to.
Yep I like zero forward lean. Easier when I'm chilled out
@@jerrykobylt7387 is urs 0 front and back?
I do 9
I’m the 69 comment
But just to say you really helped me get good at snowboarding
but dude. directional riding isnt for everyone, it heavily emphasizes carving and offpiste / backcountry over park riding. just feel like you overshadowed the entire video by uptalking directional riding. Personally I ride directional, and have a fish and a flexy directional twin, and I find the flexy directional twin a much more "fun" ride. the Fish is easier in all aspects except park, but yeah you get my drift. "easy" shouldnt be a goal here. simple should be. cause its simple. just strap in and go, find out what you like, then do that. dont go directional cause some guy told you to (cause its easier)
Agreed. I see a lot of people riding twins nowadays and at gives so much more flexibility when you're on hard terrain. And if you're a person who loves buttering+carving combo, I believe riding a twin setup is much better
Hello.
Just got a Mountain Twin and don't know how to properly position on this thing.
I used to have a directional twin with natural setback, I rode 15/0.
On the Mountain Twin Im trying to get better at switch and flat so I'm trying 15/-15 but it seems so hard lmao. Also I have trouble being clean with my turns although I didn't have any issue before. (15 years riding my old board).
Do you see something I messed up ?
Maybe try +9/-9 to keep something like 15 degrees total?
To say there is a best setup is just plain wrong. Everybody is different, different flexibility, limb length etc. The only was is to experiment to see what you like. Its annoying but it is what it is
Doggy i need to get better at setting up board's
Your setup has never been the same twice! 🤣🤣
Get that tape measure out daaaeeeggggwww
bro my friends get mad when i call them doggy and they say they never heard anyone say it b4 but now i got proof that not me says doggy
Can you ride switch if you run a directional setup?
Why are you all calling us goofy?🥲
What are those pants?
