Such a good person. Most people would not worry about the ants and kill them. I had an ex friend who burnt a nest that was in a log. The ants tried to escape to the opposite end of the log but he turned it around.
I have hunted but I respect wildlife and am not cruel. The circle of life must be respected.

Hello Tom...I was told that the best time to harvest Birch Sap is when the snow begins to melt away from the base of the Birch Tree, though I appreciate you do not appear to have much snow there in Denmark, perhaps your sap needs to be harvested while the temperature is below zero. I also have noted that trees facing the sun produce more sap, but some trees yield better than others. We have mostly Paper Bark Birches here in BC, Canada, with just a few Yellow Birch and smaller Water Birch. You certainly set new standards with your Bushcraft Cooking, thanks for the great videos!

Very nice to see this new video. We had our first Bushcraft outing yesterday, great disaster but even greater fun. Nothing has worked as planned. But enough from me, you could try real lavender, it keeps spiders away, so it might work with ants as well. We live in Scotland and everything is a month behind so it might be the same with you in Danmark

My uncle tried cinnamon once to no avail. I read once where native Americans would scorch the Earth around the TPS to rid the pheromone trails. But ants are resilient lol. Tom: you can cook me breakfast any time! Perhaps you might consider a wind block for your fire place as cooking inside is a big attraction to things you don't want in the tent. Blustery but still a lovely day where you are brisk and bright. Good luck with the ants and thanks for the cinnamon tip that's one I had not heard before, but I take it every day for my heart.

Funny, around here in the U.S., grilled cheese is a sandwich (a slice of cheese grilled between two slices of bread buttered on the outside before grilling. it's still delicious, but yours is a more literal match to the name.

You are very considerate to approach the ant problem and try to not harm them. That must have been a delicious lunch for you at the campsite, and if it makes you feel any better I tried taping birch at the middle of March and I was already too late, we had a very mild winter and it got warm quite fast. Keep up the good work.

That looked like a great day! I'm glad I came across your channel. For the ants, if you can get peppermint oil and clove oil, do so. We use them around our home to deter crawling pests. They are multifunctional, too, for personal use.

Edit : absolutely stunning food. I didn't have asparagus, so I substituted it with celery and spring onions. The cheese was a tad undercooked because I couldn't wait. But by god, I stuffed it down!
The peppers were the perfect choice.
Anyone reading this: it really is something special and worth having a go!

I've also heard of coffee grounds used to deter ants, especially if you can get them to do a slow burn first (not enough to become ash, but more like mini charcoal). I haven't tried personally, though.

Cinnamon! I had not heard that one. That would smell good in the tent...I think I would wake craving cinnamon buns and German Apple pancakes! Our sugar bush season is largely over here in Canada, many trees have started to bud, and that means the tree is done. I think it was a good year for it, winter put up a good long fight before surrendering, and those conditions tend to make for a longer period to harvest sap. Your meals always look delicious! I hope your efforts end up relocating the ants, you might be the ant whisperer!

Hey Tom another great video. I love to camp cook that meal was unique and looked delicious I'll have to try it out (mmm cheese gravy ). Being a new Englander we are known for our maple syrup, truthfully I've never tapped for syrup but to the best of my knowledge I believe you need cool nights and warm days to get a good sap run ,try leaving your sap bucket out for a few days, best of luck and take care my friend."

I hope you are doing fine and your camp is safe from the ants. The weather there is about like it is here in Arkansas, changing and getting warm, then turning cold again. We have not had much of a Winter here and it just cleared up last night from the rain we received and before it can dry up some it will rain again Wednesday once more.

Hi Wade. Try some Halloumi Cheese. Small piece of cheese with half strip of bacon, you don’t need to totally wrap it this cheese can take the heat. Throw it on the grill until the bacon is done. Also easy to find 🇨🇦

Excellent culinary skills Tom. While watching this video I experienced an epiphany! By the choice of food today it’s obvious you don’t mind eating dead animals. It many parts of the world they EAT fried Ants and chocolate covered Ants are considered a real treat.
