- What sort of person dislikes mascots so much that they get one ejected during a game, let alone pick fights with three different Hall-of-Fame worthy mascots? Well, Tommy Lasorda. During a 22-inning game (that finished 1-0), Lasorda took out his frustrations on Youppi! the beloved Montreal Expos walking celebration.
In a game where the only excitement was coming from Youppi!, it was a trash move that we at SB Nation don't support. But, we will celebrate it.

@@TheBrainSpecialist Of course being from Toronto you forget about Canadian Football, where there are 8 other Canadian teams. CFL is actually the second most popular team sport in much of the country, especially in western Canada. Where I am, no one cares about basketball. I didn't even know that the Raptors were in the playoffs until the second or third round.
So that’s why Habs haven’t won a Stanley Cup since ‘92-‘93...
It comforts me as an Expos fan that people still look fondly at Youppi.

I was at a Padres game at Jack Murphy Stadium and Tommy was coaching third base for the Dodgers for some reason like the normal coach was sick. They announced him and the whole stadium booed. He politely turned to the stands, took off his hat and bowed.

I was the mascot for my high school's homecoming game my senior year. It's a weird mix of fun and nearly passing out cause it gets hot in those suits. It's also exactly like how Kofie describes it

Lasorda was awesome! His nickname was the Ambassador of Baseball and a lot of people became baseball fans because of his enthusiasm and love for the game. The events with the mascots were tongue and cheek, and put on like skits with really bad acting. Lol

Alright so I've been trying to figure out why this style of video is entertaining and I think I got it. We as sports fans dream of these conversations where you say something your friends don't know and they're extremely interested about it. It never happens, it never will happen, and its a shame we have to live it out through this fantasy
I've been to a 9 inning game that ended 1-0. I wanted to fall asleep there, so I definitely don't blame the mascot for pulling out a night cap and gown for a 22 inning game with the same score!
Dodgers had a bunch of long games that season. There was another 22 inning game in June at Houston. At the end it had Eddie Murray at 3B (not that unsual, as I think he had played there before, maybe also in HS and the minors), Fernando Valenzuela (yes, him) at 1B, and reserve infielder Jeff Hamilton pitching. At one point, I think a pop fly was hit toward 1B, and Fernando caught it. Hamilton did a decent job, 1 2/3 IP,2 hits, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts (one was of Ken Caminti, who proceeded to break his bat over his leg as he walked back to the dugout. Gave up one run, alas it was the winning run in the bottom of the 22nd. They showed Hamilton after the hit, you would think he had just lost the last game of the World Series 😢 Poor guy. Orel Hershiser pitched 7scoreless innings in relief, it was him that Hamilton replaced. I wonder if it took a toll, as, IIRC, the following season he was out most of the year with an arm injury. The day after that it was a 15 inning game (Astros won that one too, winning pitcher for the Astros was starter Mike Scott.
The Dodger pitching staff was in such disarray that they called up Ramon Martinez who pitched the next game at Atlanta. He proceeded to throw a 6-hit shutout. Alas, the Dodgers had roster problem, as a player or two were coming off the DL, so his reward for his masterpiece was an optioning back to Albuquerque 😮 (He was recalled later in the season, this time for good, and went on to be the Dodgers best pitcher in 1990, winning 20 games. Eventually, his younger brother Pedro joined him on the Dodgers, not sure whatever became of him 😂
