There's not as much glamor in the 400m, but anyone who has ever ran track has a hell of respect for a 400m sprinter. Matthew should seriously think about it!
At first time 12 yearolds could run 400. Was 75. I barffed after every race. Illi ois jaycees only had 50yd. 100yd dashes. Only the 12 13 had the 400. Went to state and ran 400. 45 minutes later the white kids from wheaton finished 5th. I ran 2nd leg and was the leg that cost us 2nd maybe 1rst place.
I really like Boling in the 400m. Just judging from following him since high school, it looks like he has room to grow there. I can see Boling sub-44 once his focus and training leans toward the 400m.
I actually think that he should run some more 400’s because it could help develop relaxation that could translate into shorter sprints; or he could decide to stick with being a quartermiler.
The more I see of bowling the more I think he should really think about focusing on the 400 and the long jump. He puts up world class times without even focusing on them. Meanwhile his times in the 100 and 200 are really good but will never win a major title.
During indoor season people were saying Boling was washed cause he wasn’t running ncaa lead times. Throughout that I believed he was saving it to peak later in the season and he proved us all wrong. I don’t think it’s unrealistic that he can do something special at ncaa outdoors and usas.
I don't think the degraded performance was "planned" necessarily, it just worked out that way, but maybe i'm wrong. I really do think his head wasn't all the way there all the way up until that 200m finals.
FSS.....here we go with the split times again. Alabama runner closed the distance from the time he got the baton if anything..... Boling looked good but c'mon. Anyway, great race though.
Yeah dude's a BEAST. He's definitely making it harder and harder for the Haters. Tbh, I kinda think the 400m may just be his Best event when it's all said and done?? Time will tell....
He could run the 400 for the next 2-3 years and transition down like Fred Kerley whom they say wouldn’t win ANYTHING in the 100 & 200m. Fred grabbed the track pundits and forced their bitter words right down their throats!! Matthew could do the same.
@@iceburgess461 I hear ya.... I mean he's a Sub 10 100m and sub 20 200m guy but realistically being from the US, he don't stand a chance making a team IMO. Maybe if he was a Canadian, and no disrespect here... I'm Canadian, but the U.S. squad is SO.hard to make. I truly think the 400m or Decathlon is better suited for him??
This is not new 400m speed. He was running the 400 in HS during his junior year he took 2nd at state and then transitioned to the 100m his senior year.
Always thought Boling should stick to 400. Inconsistent in the other races. I still don't think he(Boling) will ever win an individual gold at the olympics.
His coaches need to help him decide what he will do when he graduates. Right now his versatility is good for the team, but puts him at a disadvantage for his solo results.
I’m surprised you’re quoting a 2nd leg split at all. The variance is pretty wide so I don’t think a sub 44 split can really be read into especially with Godwin leading off 6:30 it must also be considered because of the lead he’s been given and the lack of stagger with the cut in, he ran it alone. This can vastly influence his running as you mentioned. His ability to relax is totally different in an open with a habitual stagger so when you combine that with a running start, everyone open runner knows how this is just a totally different race. He’d never be alone until 280meters at best.
No, they both started to move at the same time when handing off. Matt got a little jump on him but that gap was never made up and was a little bit wider coming into the break and maintained till the next hand-off. That is not faster at all.
@trp i don't know if you've noticed but that guy running behind Boling switched from lane 5 to lane 6 in the beginning of the 400! So big props for him because he was absolutely flying given the fact that he added a few metres!
Is that not supposed to be a DQ though? Pretty sure you're supposed to be in your lane only at that stage. There must be a rule about that I'm not aware of because almost nobody has mentioned it at all, even in the official coverage. Regardless, it was pretty impressive, but I'd be pissed as a coach since he made their job a little harder. Double so if it was against the rules.
@@Zharghar08 I believe that would only be considered a DQ if he made contact with the other runner, or he ran less distance than he was supposed too. The officials don't DQ you for running more though. (also he didn't purposely switch lanes, he wasn't paying attention to the lane)
His PB in the 200m this year will be upper 19.80s or lower 19.90s. Not enough for a spot on the US 200m team. But his 400m times promise to at least make the 4X400 team. Hope he’ll make the right choice.
His PB is already 19.92, into a .6 headwind. If the race has a +.6, he would have been in the .8's. He looks to have improved since last year, so if he can not tense up as much, also if the wind is in his favour, then hopefully he will get into the .7's. To compete with the elites though, he has to go sub 19.70. That's a tough ask this year. Likely not going to happen. I hope I am wrong though, he deserves it.
Mr Brave. Thank you. Matthew Boling’s PB is still not faster than Tommie Smith’s Olympics winning world record performance in 1968!! FIFTY FIVE YEARS AGO. Boling is okay in the 200m but for him qualifying for a world team with that stacked 200m field?? Give Matthew a break and let him run the 400. @@lindenbyass6902 how do you know what Boling's PB right now is, he hasn't run a 200 yet. He could be in 19.7 shape. Admittedly not as quick as the elite lads, but Boling isn't a pro. Too many people are quick to write him off, I wonder why that is. Strange.

I thought it was an impressive race, but the Alabama guy stayed with him virtually step for step. So credit where credit is due....they BOTH ran their asses off. I have to say I was really disappointed he didn't take a shot at anything in the US Championships. I saw lots of runners in the 60m & 400m from D1 & D2 and I can't figure out why he wouldn't have taken a shot just to see what happens. His PB in the 60m would have put him in the finals and placing in the top 6, which would be a nice feather in his cap (and not to strenuous to disrupt his season).

Boling finished his high school track career in May at the Texas state championships by running a 44.74 second anchor in the 4 × 400 m relay"
Ridiculous for a high school kid to break 10 second barrier, jump 8 meters, and sub 45 a 400. Unheard of performance, and he got no better in college.
@@ARKAEA33 your right on the press. And as far as people peaking early I'm told it happens. I just find it hard to believe a good college system could not get more out of him.
@@ARKAEA33 do you think his high school system was that good in getting him to that level? What was it? He could have came out lesser developed and built to this level in college
What a race! What a finish too! Congratulations to the athletes. Orogot looks good and Boling, always surprising to watch. Good to see so many Brothers-in-Bow-Legs, representing!
There's not as much glamor in the 400m, but anyone who has ever ran track has a hell of respect for a 400m sprinter. Matthew should seriously think about it!
Man, you got that right, the 400 is a gut race in every sense of the word.
I can see Boling sub-44 once his focus and training leans toward the 400m.
yes, pretty good college level, but not even close to world level. i hope Mathew can run sub 44 in individual 400m
Jesus, I saw the thumbnail and thought Bowling ran a sub-44 400. Still, extremely impressive, though.
I actually think that he should run some more 400’s because it could help develop relaxation that could translate into shorter sprints; or he could decide to stick with being a quartermiler.
Here we go again...Total Mathew Boling Productions
Mr Moi. I understand your frustration.
The more I see of bowling the more I think he should really think about focusing on the 400 and the long jump. He puts up world class times without even focusing on them. Meanwhile his times in the 100 and 200 are really good but will never win a major title.
Mr Armfield. Thank you.
Orogot was way better. Just saying
The Ugandan was second to Boling in the 2023 200m NCAA Indoor Championships. Boling ran 20.12 and he ran 20.20.
Keanu Reeves no
FSS.....here we go with the split times again.
Will Stuart 0 100 or 200 Championships. Hasn't gotten faster in the 100 since high school
@@willstuart4504 4x400
In my opinion, Orogot went even faster than Boling
Mr Hykl. Thank you.
That's crazy to run the 2nd fastest collegiate time with only 1 true 400m specialist 😮
while 43.85 is definitely a good time, it's still a flying start so it would convert to a high 44.xx nothing too impressive tbh
Mr gamer. Thank you.
This is not new 400m speed. He was running the 400 in HS during his junior year he took 2nd at state and then transitioned to the 100m his senior year.
just ran sub 5.00 in teh mile as an 8th grader
i love this community
I thought they were done when Sumner fell behind 😮😅
It seemed too good to be true? He ran just one second slower in high school. This is expected
Always thought Boling should stick to 400. Inconsistent in the other races. I still don't think he(Boling) will ever win an individual gold at the olympics.
Mr Toro. Thank you.
dude needs to dedicate himself to the open 400m
This just put Wayde van Niekerk's WR into perspective for me.
His coaches need to help him decide what he will do when he graduates. Right now his versatility is good for the team, but puts him at a disadvantage for his solo results.
I’m surprised you’re quoting a 2nd leg split at all. The variance is pretty wide so I don’t think a sub 44 split can really be read into especially with Godwin leading off
6:30 it must also be considered because of the lead he’s been given and the lack of stagger with the cut in, he ran it alone. This can vastly influence his running as you mentioned. His ability to relax is totally different in an open with a habitual stagger so when you combine that with a running start, everyone open runner knows how this is just a totally different race. He’d never be alone until 280meters at best.
I wanna see Orogot vs Boiling in the open 200m. 🔥 🏃♂️ 🔥 🏃🏿
No videos of the 4x200 win my Georgia🙁
So what did the guy from Alabama split because he closed the gap because I’m pretty sure his split was better 😑
Mr Ashford. Thank you.
No, they both started to move at the same time when handing off. Matt got a little jump on him but that gap was never made up and was a little bit wider coming into the break and maintained till the next hand-off. That is not faster at all.
Bolings been in college for 10 years😂
Always have said I think he has a higher ceiling as a 200-400 specialist!
Olympics and Worlds have whole countries in the finals that can't run as fast as those three teams.😮
@trp i don't know if you've noticed but that guy running behind Boling switched from lane 5 to lane 6 in the beginning of the 400! So big props for him because he was absolutely flying given the fact that he added a few metres!
Thank you.
Erriyon Knighton’s PB from last year is HALF A SECOND faster than Matthew’s RIGHT NOW. And Knighton is STILL A TEENAGER!! Crikey.
@@lindenbyass6902 how do you know what Boling's PB right now is, he hasn't run a 200 yet. He could be in 19.7 shape. Admittedly not as quick as the elite lads, but Boling isn't a pro. Too many people are quick to write him off, I wonder why that is. Strange.
@@reddragon1572 You have to run like a pro BEFORE you can run like a pro!! Don’t know what Knighton’s PB is either cause he hasn’t run a 200m yet either; but one thing I do know is Boling’s PB was 19.92 in 2022 and Tommie Smith’s PB was 19.83 when he won the 1968 Olympics FIFTY FIVE YEARS AGO!! You can’t trump that-pun intended!!
The people Boling will have to beat to make the 200m team: Lyles, Knighton, Bednarek, Kerley, Norman, Laird. He has to beat at least two
Let’s talk about MS MASAI RUSSELL for a second @TotalRunningProductions
She came out of the gate *storming*
She made Alia Armstrong look like she was standing still and she even ran fast herself for a season opener
I'm actually most impressed by Sumner because all the pressure was on him, and he wasn't the strongest runner and even fell behind, but you can tell basically he just gave it 1000% percent for so that the incredible times his relay team put up weren't wasted. Absolute beast of a team.
That's not the correct split. Alabama's Orogot split a confirmed 43.6, and Boling was a few tenths faster
But… didn’t the guy from Alabama gain ground on Boling? Am I seeing it wrong?
Mr Keith M. Thank you.
Yes, you are seeing wrong!
Boling is an absolute beast!
No
UCLA’s 3rd and 4th leg made up a lot of ground. What were their splits? That was a good race!
3rd 44.31 and 4th 44.49, it says in the video
Edit: says it at 2:34. UCLA came 3rd
I love your videos!!!! I remember watching the Nationals and Worlds a few years ago, before I found this channel, and I had no clue who was good on the US team. But ever since I have been watching your videos, you have kept me up to date, not only on the US runners, but other amazing runners around the world! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Given the saturation of the current US 200m male field; Matt should seriously consider doing the 400m for say, about 5 to 6 years there about. Then, return to the short sprints afterward. This was the route taken by many great athletes, such as: Wade Van Niek, Michael Norman, Shericka Jackson, Shaune Miller, and the great Usain Bolt. Yes, I said it! He was 400m athlete before the short sprints.😊
Don’t forget Fred Kerley!!

Point is in the 400 the race “ starts” at the 230m to 260m mark. 4xP= push pace position & pray !
I think the guy behind him had a faster time.
Mr or Ms Peanutbuttercup. Thank you.
TRP never stops carrying water for this broad. She wins he’s gushing all over her. She comes in dead last she still somehow warrants being the focus of her own video. Smdh. Now waiting for a ‘Matthew Boling Situation’ video if there isn’t already one.
The anchor leg was EPIC. You all must watch the Anchor LEG!!!!!! Top 3 ever!
If Boling split 43.xx, then bama second leg def split 43.xx as well - he received the stick slightly after Boling. Nevertheless, really impressed with Georgia - they’ll def give Florida and Arkansas a run for their money at natty’s.
That Will Sumner kid is gonna be something special.
Less than 0.3 seconds off the all-time fastest NCAA time. That record is definitely going down. Also, their anchor Sumner, actually ran more than 400 meters as he started in lane 1 and finished in lane 3. That's probably a 0.1 second there, and this is still the middle of the season.
They can get it and they did beat the old "great" USC record that had Michael Norman. Just a few more tenths.
Georgia needs someone faster than Cavanaugh on the third leg who ran a 45 and change. If he ran a sub 45, the NCAA record would’ve been theirs
All I want is Abby Steiner news ❤
I think he would find more success running the 400 meters.
The 200 meter race is saturated with Top Guys.
400 and LJ that's his sweet spot and it's not even that hard to figure out. I actually said this since his freshman year. I genuinely don't understand why his coaches have not specialized him in these two events exclusively.
They need points for a team effort
@@dennisrobinson8008 I suppose that is true.
The guy keeping up with him was good too.
The guy behind him made up distance! What was that guys split! I do see this channel rave about Boling a bit too much.
TotalRunningProductions has had a persistent hardon for Boling since 2019. You'd think Boling was #1 in the country or something the way they keep going on and on and on about the guy (he's #17 in the 100m and #7 in the 200m)

Booling is totally overrated, 43,85 s is a flying 400m time.
Summer is a 800m specialist, so he knew how to pace himself.
His focus should be on the 400 and the long jump. Along with mixed 4x4 and 4x4
Let's GO MAT!!!!
Call Matthew Boling "Moonshine" because he's white lightning!
At the very least, Boling will crack the USA 4x400 Olympic Team.
Mr Markson. Thank you.
In order run a world class 400 you have to be able to go out in a world class 200m
You actually can meassure first two splits because you do not track an athlete but the baton itself. First leg End when baton crosses the 800 starting line, second leg ends when baton crosses the finish line and so on
What’s even more crazy by Alabama 2nd leg is he drifted off to texas lane so ran a bit more than necessary
Mr Cardenas. Thank you.

Boling has just barely broken 46 in the open 400, but your saying he can go under 44? Yer nuts, bro.
Boling hasn't run an outdoor 400 in 2 years. Kerley went from 47.81 to 43.70 in 2 years.
45.51 in the open 400, which he barely runs.
@@simonsnow9865 And why do you think he doesn't run the 400? I mean if he's a potential sub 400 guy, why wouldn't run the 400 ? He's not even the best 400 guy on his own team. Here's a theory: he's not a great 400 sprinter and he knows it.
@@normcmiller Your right. Boling is on target to run 42 flat! Don't know how I couldn't see this.
@@jamescareyyatesIII you clearly aren’t informed on Boling. He was a great 400 runner in HS. But his first coach wanted him to run 200,100…idk why? Team needs?
