Sometimes it is possible to clean out the old capacitor and build two new ones within the old housing. They do that a lot on vintage tube radio's to maintain the original appearance.
Dear VintageStereo, I would like to thank you. I watch your videos for few months. You make me crazy about old amplifiers, could it sound better than new stuff costing thousands and thousands. So I decided to look for this Marantz 1150 as you said you realy like the sound and to be honest, I personaly like the good looking of this model, symetric, not too much buttons and silver and wood. I finally was surprised to found a guy at less than 10km from my house, here in Belgium, Luik. He has a lot of vintage amps and speakers, so after a quick listening I bought it for 600 euros. Not expensive for a good amp but ... I m 40 and this amp is older than me, the cost feels expensive. Anyway, I took it at my home, cause it was smeeling Christmas in advance with this beautiful amp. I compared it to my Electrocompaniet amp, which is smooth and harmonize the sound at my sense. The Marantz was a good surprised, at the opposite, a funky man, so nice with my digital source, I feel this sound closer than the one I have with my turntable, so enjoyable, funky, please Doc send me back to the later 70s 😀 BUT, it sounds too much, like a argentic picture with too too much grain... At higher volume or with record with a lot of instruments, it sounds satured, everything melting... OK, OK, I readed soo much people saying how they made a big mistake selling their own 1150, so I decided to replace the caps! Never done this kind of things before, I have started by the power regulation card, took so much time to find which components to use and be carefully to not burn my house at the end. I finished this card recap yesterday. As you know if I m writing you I m still alive 😀 I m testing this change since this morning, I don't blow my speakers or anything, the sound is really better, the grain is disciplined, but still warm and vivid for a digital source. I enjoy it , really really, it sounds so modern, clear, warm, still funky and balanced at the same time. Next step, cause I want more, you know what I mean ;) , will be to continue the restauration with the card of one the channel... I thank you, this is a great sound experience and you give me 2 hobbys at the same time , one for old good sound machine, and electronic stuff. Take care of you, don't make crazy fantasies with your body and your hearth. Wish you the best for this year. Met vriendelijke groeten, Sébastien.
Wow, that's a experience....I never heard a Electrocompaniet but prices are way over 600 euro. I am 9 years in this hobby and never dared to solder caps. What you did is really remarkable. have a good 2022 and lot of fun with your new hobby
Three plus points of not having a wife if your hobby is hifi, 1. You can buy what you want.👍 2. Less background noise.😁 3.Better signal to noise ratio.😉
Sorry, but the Marantz 1150 delivers at 8 Ohms nearly 100 W (98 W) each chanel and at 4 Ohms about 150 W. This is the real output power, meassured by magazines. In the 70ies Marantz always wrote to less outputpower in the advertising because the can do so.
excellent nice to see one in the flesh

WAUW! Prachtige versterker, zeker in dat hout. Ben ook wel nieuwsgierig naar de kenwood om eerlijk te zijn.
what a beauty, the case is a big plus too
Simon like andrew told me years ago You only need one marantz to be happy😅😅
Please test Naim NAIT 5si second hand ~380Euro you will be suprised ! :)
Woooowww that’s huge capacitor and huge Transformer
That's a really nice sound. VS test with the Accuphase e -202 would be a good VS test i think.
Thinking of buying one guy wants $750 Canadian. What does everyone think? He just had it in to get fixed. Not really fixed as much as cleaned up.

I have a DD T'table lenco L3807 and it's hinge is broken. Any leads where I can find it on, on-line stores.
Amazing MARANTZ idol Andrew 👍👍👍👍
What you think about connecting 1150d with 250M ?
Tnx

I have one not in wood, 1150 D
tthe voluem knob seems not to be very acessible
My 1060 sounds mediocre at best, guess I was hyped.
What you expected from old dry caps and other components out of orginal parameters.
