Great troubleshooting adventure on this classic Marantz. It always makes for an exciting time when the magic smoke comes out :) The way the RH amp settings were way out vs LH, maybe Tommy Toggle was in there playing when he shouldn't have been somewhere along the historical trail (we'll never know), it's been 40+ years since new. Anyway, thank you for your time, your customer will be most happy when he puts this beast back in service!
A forty+ year old speaker relay should at least have the contacts cleaned. I can guarantee I would have found significant series contact resistance. The symptom will show as volume drops mainly at low volume settings, then if volume is raised the sound comes back, only to drop out again. One of the very most common problems on vintage gear.
I’ve been watching several of your videos since I found your channel a few days ago and I appreciate your conservative approach, find the issue an replace only what is bad. Nice work
So Glad I found your channel. I am learning so much just watching you work your professional skills. My dad was an expert just as you are. I wish I have learned more from him. I just bought a Marantz 2265 and i have been enjoying if for about a month. It blew a fuse last week and I plan to pop to cover tomorrow and see what I've got for my money! thanks.
Hi Jose..at the time of the fireworks...i didn't think it was funny hahaha. Hope your doing well and you didn't get evicted with that Adcom... Good to hear from you buddy.
I am seeing more and more failing power switches as these amps get older (especially switches that also control volume). When using almost all of my equipment I keep the units powered on all the time, and use a smart plug/power strip to flip them on and off. Works well for me and keeps millage off of functional power switches.
LOL, I'm still @8:30 minutes, just saw the zap\spark and in my house, you could hear me loudly proclaiming a "Holy Moly" moment. Looking forward to teh rest of the vid to see what happened. I did watch the whole video, I have no idea how the power switch could cause sparks at the back end of the unit. Didn't blow a fuse? (Don't answer, these are rhetorical).
-that is a tough decision and it all depends who you talk too. I love Yamaha and not sure if I would, especially CA810. if I had a choice in picking one of them, no money involve, I think I would pick and go with the Marantz hands down but to spend money to get this marantz... not sure if I would. -it's a interesting question though... I have never listen to this particular Yamaha you mention but I did listen to the Marantz 1250 and the sounds is impeccable. it's a amazing receiver no doubt. sorry I can't be more help!
hai un interessante blocco di lampadine , nel tuo banco di lavoro . L'uso delle lampadine ad incandescenza è da sempre conosciuto , ma metterlo in rack sembra una buona idea

Sweet work on this! Wow it was a trickster but hey as you said it's well designed and easier to work on that some less well built stereos. Great job. Wondering why this capacitor tester is better than the fluke when you are measuring ohms with both ?
Hi G.Fortin I like the capacitor wizard cause I can actually test in circuit for high resistance. If it's high ESR then I know I have a issue with that cap in circuit. Fluke measures the value of the capacitor but needs to be out of circuit for precision. The cheap ESR meter with the LED screen(under 20$) I have also is very useful as it measures capacitors, resistors and transistors and it's very affordable. Hope this help and welcome to the electronic world. I love it!!
@@VintageAudioFever thank you.. I will try to notice the cheaper meter in your videos. I had bought the Peak atlas esr70 but they need to be removed to test. Would be handy to be able to check before removing for sure. Thanks for reply !
What I don't understand is, You said, right away, at the beginning, that your D.C. Offset was high but then you plugged your speakers in!! Why didn't you adjust it before you plugged your speakers in?
Hi Bill, to respond to your comment, why did I hook up my speakers with DCV? I did find the DC voltage was high on the left but not enough to worry about damaging my speakers for a short period of time. It was safe to set the voltage with my speakers hook up. of course I say high meaning about 50mv....but still not going to damage your speakers , it's best to keep your dc voltage to minimal as possible.

Hi Joe, thank you for the video and loved your electronics workshop!

Good afternoon. I already miss the black gloves)). As always, great work and interesting story!
Yes sir, you're one of the best, straight out of jamaica...
Nice job Joe. I had my doubts when the evil spirits shot out of it in the beginning but you saved the patient.
Haha well said, Spirit shouting out!!! Thank you for watching 👀 🙂

Glad to help, let us know what you found with your marantz 2265
Hi Joe. Loved the fireworks just like the 4th of July. But again you showed that a bit of love and care works every time.

Nope still here but they are not making too much noise now. And in the summer I’ll be crossing the border by Niagara Falls.
You'll be in Canada...but I'm on the east coast hahaha
Great job, regards
Great job!! Works flawlessly. I have another one for you to check out soon
Bring it to me before nice weather hits...haha
Great work! Thx for the vid.👍
Thats a great amp..look's pretty damn good as well.
Nice job...
Hope you're covid goes away real soon.

Felicitaciones por el trabajo y el video! Una consulta, cambiarías un Yamaha CA 810 por este marantz ?

audio very difficult,, voice low, random background loud..
