LOVE this! Thanks for showing mistakes. I have always said you learn from your mistakes. Question: I know you can't paint over wax. Can you use shellac over wax and then paint?

That really turned out nice! Thanks for the honest, real life mishaps

Watching you mix the water and paint pigment powder, then the extra bond reminds me WHY I’m a little scared of Milk Paint….it’s like cooking. And I do not enjoy cooking. Eating, yes - cooking not so much…..

I know if it didn't stick the first time I'd throw it away! Your project turned out great!

She sure came out purtty in the end. I’m going to give Sweet Pickins milk paint a go….I have tried MMS and Amy Howard, this brand seems easier to work with….and I appreciate the prep lesson, truly thank you for keeping it real 💙💙💙

Sorry but that made me giggle when that paint was coming off in sheets. 🤭

I can see you're holding a can of regular zinsser shellac. You want to get the zinsser shellac "seal coat", as it uses dewaxxed shellac. The wax negatively impacts bonding. You can also make your own shellac with dewaxed shellac flakes and some kind of high purity alcohol (everclear, 90+% isopropyl, denatured alcohol). And still sand the shellac before painting as shellac gives a gloss finish and it's hard to bond to gloss finishes.
I'm new to milk paint. I'm trying to refinish some of the furniture from my daughter's doll house and have been looking for a good way to seal the milk paint. Shellac alone ambers too much to use solely as a top coat over the paint, so I'm thinking about mixing shellac with the milk paint powder (instead of water)...I just don't know if it'll work. Either shellac or pure tung. Needs to be an edible final finish since my daughter loves to chew on the pieces 😂
