I had a Norwegian Forest cat and she was a sweetheart. They love their family but do bond to their favorite human. I lost her at 13 to cancer and I will never get over her. She would wait at my bedroom window to get home from work and follow me every where and sleep with me in my bed. If you're looking for a cat that loves you, get this beautiful cat!

Weegies are great cats, very loving and keen to be with their human - they always struck me as being more doglike than most other cat breeds. My two moved in with me in 2006. Momo passed away last year at age 17, Pinsel is now 18 and going strongly ♥♥♥

We have a big beautiful black forest cat! She is a huntress bar none! She can climb any tree and watch out rodents, birds and lizards. She is aloof but let’s us be affectionate when she chooses. As a dog person I have come to respect admire and love our Pantera (Spanish for panther) so blessed we got her!

Our first cat was a Norwegian Forest Cat. She was a rescue at three or four months, and she lived until she was nearly 19. Stunningly beautiful. I fed her ground turkey, alfalfa sprouts, ... the Anitra Frazier diet, and she paid us back many-fold everyday. RIP Punkin

My forest cats are awesome. This video is not off base, but I would suggest getting a bonded pair because it lowers the stress on you and the stress on the cats because they will play with each other. And they rumble. Another thing I've noticed is that they are docile and accepting of other animals. Mine are 23 and 16 pounds and they don't mince words with each other but it's rare they aren't asleep curled up together after playing. They love my tabbies and my big white cat and they clean my dog. Great breed. Shop local rescues, because I've noticed a lot of times people don't realize what they have and they surrender them to rescue. But when you see that little mane and the size of the stretched paws, along with the ear fuzzies, you know real quick.

You can get them for free in Norway. Had one when I was young. But you could tell that she was a bit "wild" in a sense, somewhere borderline between domesticated and wild. Like as if she was taken from the wilderness and grown up in a household. Not that cozy like many of these special kitty breeds to have sitting on your lap. But they're really great at killing mice, birds and anything you could think of - probably much better at hunting than most cat breeds. I would often come home and see dead crows and such on the porch.

My uncle has a mix between a Norwegian forest, and what we believe a Maine coon. He named him Maul. Two years later Maul killed the neighbors chihuahua (absolutely justified, I might as, that thing was a menace). I borrow that cat sometimes to get rid of the he mice in the house … (he surprisingly gets on well with “my” owl…)

I adopted a shelter kitten that turned out to be a Norwegian Forest Cat. She grew to be very large, over 16 pounds. She was friendly with the outdoor barn cats but seemed lonely when I left her in the house alone while running errands and such so I adopted a young shorthaired shelter cat and they were both very happy. After she passed away at age 13 I adopted a stray kitten for the remaining cat. So if you get a wedgie and are gone most of the day consider getting another cat for a companion.

I don't know who made this list but I am not sure they have looked it up. Norwegian Forest Cats are one of the long haired breeds that need the least amount of grooming and once adult it is often close to nothing at all. I have had three and I have never brushed them before this one and in this case I am only doing it because he likes it so much and he seems to take it as a bonding experience.
Secondly, this may be different in the US, but here in Scandinavia at least, the life expectancy is generally around 18 years with many reaching 20 years of age, depending. My parents Norwegian is 18 years old now and still jumps up and plays. I also have never heard of hip dysplasia being a thing in NFCs, it might also be a US thing.
Lastly they are actually considered pretty easy to have indoors. They are not often wanderers and they tend to just go out for a bit to inspect the turf if it is possible and then back in again. As long as you have places they can climb and preferably a playmate, it should be fine provided you don't live in a one bedroom.

I bought my third Norwegian Forest Cat almost two years ago and paid $1200 for her. I bought my first one 18 years ago and paid $800. She lived to be 16 and she was what I thought a Norwegian Forest Cat would be. My second one died almost 9 years ago. He dropped dead 3 weeks before his 5th birthday due to HCM. My two year old Norwegian Forest Cat is a disappointment compared to my other two, because she is too aggressive at times. My husband is more annoyed with her than I am. She attacks him. She bites my ankle and holds on to my ankle.

Sounds like she lacks stimulation. Norwegian Forest Cats are often not great on their own unless you have a LOT of time to play with them. That being said, they are also not considered adults before they are four years old, which basically means she is still a kitten and kittens are ... Well, naughty. It is a miracle if your other cats have not been the same way.

I adopted an 11year old black smoke Wegie last year from the Humane Society. She must have been harshly handled as she is very skittish ( it is just her and myself, 80yrs) after 14 months she still won't let me groom her. I take her to a groomer. She is always near me, sleeps with me and has her times when she wants ear scratches and petting. Her playing is minimal. I'm thinking that it is due to her age and when she first came to live with me she didn't know how to play. I'm not giving up on her, she is what gives me a reason to get up in the morning

I LOVE THESE KITTIES......We have two & didn't even know it until recently. We do both wildlife & domestic rescue & rehab & as it turns out have ended up wtih a lot of animals. We started out in Canada lived in the States for 2 years then moved with our 4 rescue cats from Malibu to Australia. One of the cats climbed out of the coyote infested canyons of Malibu
nearly dead at about 4 weeks old during the Santa Ana dry hot sandy winds, his eyes were glued shut his little belly bloated, he was starving, dehydrated & nearly dead
totally ferral, Bit me clear through my index finger nail. I was like a bloody cartoon character with a little wild furball clamped onto my finger, luckily I recalled my husband
(a cat & dog person) had said grab them by the scruff like mum & you will imobilize them, Thank God he had told me that or I might not have a finger left today, a wild cat
for sure. So tiny but so vicious. He is here now beside me so sweet, cuddly, kind, loving, but very jumpy to strangers & fast moves, I think this is because of his very traumatic beginning. We talked to an animal communicator in the US & he told her his family & everyone he knew that lived down in the canyon were torn to pieces by
a pack of coyotes & he ran for his little life & got away, He crawled to the top of Decker Canyon & found a rotten old catfood tin mouldy & dry that was left out for the ants,
no pet would dream of touching it. & there he was starving eating this garbage desperately. It broke my heart.
Now he is sleeping on a comfy bed by a crackling fire with little Kangaroo Joeys as his friends. lol
Hamish was the size of your hand when we first saw him at the head wildlife rescue gals' house here in town a year or so ago, he was the sweetest tiny fluffy orange kitty that when curled up fit in the top of a CD stand ie he curled up in the footprint of a CD. I saw him & fell in love he was & is the funniest, smartest, sweetest, fastest, outgoing, cuddly, independant, brave kitty, & huge he's a good 20 pounds but with that funny little peep of a tiny meow. Its lauhable coming out of this big bear of cat, He will rub you to death weaving in & out of your legs for attention or food with his silky soft fluffy orange coat. He's quite the character. He was a ferral from a wild litter in the country somewhere. Nobody wanted him so I brought him home to join our other 6 cats making it 7 then we learned Kiwi from Malibu & Hamish from Australia were the very same bread. They recognized it too. Awesome creatures, fantastic friends & mousers. Hamish goes out into the paddock & sits with the kangaroo.lol Fearless boy.

My daughter. son-in-law and myself went to the Animal Rescue and the cat we chose a big black and white cat and when I got him home he was very friendly the first day or two. Then my son needed somebody to watch his dog for three months and that is when the cat moved under the bed. He had a little hammock under the bed in the liner. I kept telling the cat he needed to shoe Bentley that he wasn't afraid of him. They actually started working towards having a friendship. Anyway, I have the black and white cat and my son-in-law named him Tuxcedo. I always put the Japanese word san which means he is a friend (saw it in a movie so I might be wrong) after his name and so he is Cedo-san. Anyway I have had him for a year and two months and we have a pretty good relationship. He doesn't like to be handled or petted a lot or picked up a lot so he lets me know he has had enough he very softly bites me to let me know he is done. It has been a long year but we are doing pretty good now. And we both enjoy each other's company and there is a lot of hair I have to remove from my tongue each morning. I learned a lot from this video and from our shared experiences. He is very smart!!

I have one who‘s half Norwegian, half Maine Coon. She gets most of her looks and her behavior from the Norwegian papa, except she‘s less interested in climbing like her Maine Coon mama. She‘s a bit shy around new people, but I have never seen her hiss. Not even at the vet. She sort of just calmly waits until it‘s all over. She doesn‘t like being picked up, but she tolerates it if she thinks it makes you happy. She‘s very quiet and very easy to train things, but whatever you ask her to do, she has a 30-60 seconds delay when she considers if she should do it or not. She follows me around like a shadow and she cried the first night when we moved. I guess she was attached to her old home. She‘s too smart to wear any harness - she‘s out of it in 30 seconds. Does get very scared of loud noises, though. I left her alone with baby mice after repeatedly explaining we love them and she just sat there looking over them. I don‘t think I will have another cat after her. Best cat ever, it wouldn’t be fair.

Charlie came i to my life from a Humane Society at Petsmart. I.m pretty sure he wad a breeder since he had no social skills. When you patted your lap, he watched your hand go up and down. He became sooo social. Loves me to death. He is the master of big head bumps. Can almost push you from bed to the floor. When I sing to him with songs that I put his name into, he rolls back and forth on the floor. He is weirder than any other cat that I have had of which there have been 8. I cannot think of any reason not to have a Weegie. He does eat a lot, though.

I mean I do I understand why there are reasons to adopt a Norwegian Forest cat and reasons not to. For example if you work all the time and never at home don't get this breed because they really do want and require love and attention. If you have the time to give them they are the most wonderful sweetest cats they also do require some grooming and brushing. Also to feeding them could be a little more expensive. Having had one I would have No Reservations about doing it again they are a very sweet loving breed

    • @CatCrazy61
      @CatCrazy61 2 года назад

Hi I responded below. It's like with anything in life there's reasons to and reasons not. there's pros and cons. They do require a lot of attention. If a person works a lot not a good idea for you to get. also feeding them can be expensive. I wouldn't suggest feeding them cheap cat food they require certain amount of protein. If someone's on a budget probably not a good idea to get one. However if you're looking for the most sweetest loving beautiful cat, hands down they are the Mighty Mittens of cats. BEAUTIFUL! As a previous owner of one I can say with certainty how they are. They are gorgeous and loving and I miss mine to the Moon and back!
