false. Plugins such as worldedit (although fixed by FAWE) and core protect need a lot of memory as constantly reading and writing to a DB ends up slowing it down much more. Minecraft servers are single threaded (game wise) so a quad core system isn't really essential as you've said here. You could have 64 threads and it still wouldn't perform better than a machine with 4 unless running lots of plugins that are asynchronous
A few recommendations to anyone trying this: - Try to use Ubuntu 18.04 LTS or smt. This way you also learn something. Windows is just click click and it works. - If you want to use Windows 10, pick Windows 10 Pro and use rpd instead of Teamviewer. RDP is a built-in feature in Windows 10 Pro and windows 10 pro keys are actually cheaper than Windows 10 home ones. It also offers more options and is way smoother.
It is most likely possible on any computer that is working, and has an internet connection. Depending on your laptop, the server may have some lag because it can't process information fast enough, but I have done it on an amd athlon p340
I mean if your going to have a dedicated Minecraft server machine you might as well use Debian or CentOS GNU/Linux and use free open source software like pterodactyl panel (for minecraft server control) and webmin or cockpit (for system administration). much more effective and easier to manage (but does require a router with NAT Loopback, which is usually on most high end and gaming routers but not on low end included devices such as Xfinity home router modem combos)
So I've set up a working server on my pi, however it seems like port forwarding isn't working. Does anyone know if this kind of activity can be blocked by the internet provider? Because nothing I do works
Why don't you use linux (you are just wasting soooooo much ram and resources w/ windows) ??!! If you are planning to do this, i would recomend zorin os, elementary os, [not Ubuntu] , linux mint or any other light distro! (i went for zorin, because of the sheer simplicity and ease) edit: grammar
Why not Ubuntu (esspecially Ubuntu Server) if you use mint you ARE using ubuntu. Also you really want something without a GUI. Such as CentOS (with no GUI installed), Ubuntu Server, Arch (if you're brave), something command line interface (CLI).
My main PC is an optiplex 790 case swapped with a GTX 1060 and 10GB of RAM. Im wanting to get another optiplex to host my Plutonium server instead of using AWS Free Tier :)
Me: So let's check that video. I want to laugh at them when they will set up Ubuntu with GUI, maybe GNOME, having DE on server, haha funny This guy: blah blah Windows blah Me: I wasn't excepting that
I did something similar with an old dell laptop from around 2011, except I did a bit more work on it. Took out the old hard drive and swapped it out for a 256gb SSD I had laying around, took out the battery, and run a minecraft server on it. I couldn’t get Linux working on it because it’s motherboard seems to be so damn specific as far as booting from USB or CD. Burned an ubuntu install disc, didn’t recognize it. Made an ubuntu install flash drive, didn’t work either. So I just said fuck it and left it on win10, and turned off as many win10 features as possible. It works super well for what it is!
For those wanting to make bungeecord and big minecraft communities on a budget, I bought an HP DL360 gen 7 for like 200$ and it has two xeon 5670 and 48 GB of ram.
For your start scripts, you can actual change them to be like this: java -Xmx1G -Xms1G -jar server.jar nogui java -Xmx2G -Xms2G -jar server.jar nogui java -Xmx3G -Xms3G -jar server.jar nogui java -Xmx4G -Xms4G -jar server.jar nogui Note: I use CentOS Linux for my server hosting. I HAVE tested this method on windows, debian, and Mac. They all work. Edit: He also said to install a bukkit server for plugin support. PLEASE use paper spigot. Bukkit is basically an older version of Spigot. Paper spigot is a performance improved version of Spigot. Basically, if Bukkit is version 1, Spigot would be version 2 and Paper Spigot is version 3. For any questions, feel free to leave a reply.
i just did it myself it works perfectly. I also portforwarded my server and it wasn't that complicated. But i used my old gaming Laptop which has 16gb of ram.
If both use Windows as the operating system, you can use Remote desktop instead of Teamviewer. Is already included in Windows and you had a program less to take care of
I agree this would be a good option unless you pay more than 10 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity, leaving a computer on 24/7 actually running will take up a lot of electricity. And even if you do build a system like this I would recommend buying a 35 to $100 power supply if your electricity is any more than $0.04 per kilowatt hour
Especially if you're electricity is more expensive than I specified, it will easily pay for itself in a year or even a month if your electricity is ungodly expensive.
Omg, u r the best. I have loked fore this! I will recommend it to my friends and family. First vid I sow of ur vids and it is the best I have ever seen. U guys are the only ones I have Feld. ∞ likes from me.
Ooor just install Linux on avarage PC/laptop and configure hamachi(if you want to invite your friends from everywhere of the world). Linux is much more ligther/better than Windows especially in old hardwares for example Lubuntu 18.04 can work with 250mb RAM and even you have more RAM than 250mb it still uses 250-300mb RAM to work :)
Okay this is crazy. RUclips just recommended this video out of the blue, but.. My high school has the exact same Dell models and we actually used one to make a local server for MC along with gmod and CS:GO servers (via LinuxGSM). But the crazy part is that we're called TostBrothers (polish spelling of "toast" for better localization), which is scarily close to your name. Are we living in some parallel universe or something?
this tutorial made me able to play with my friend thnx so much (total side note the server does not bog down your system unless you've got a minimum of 4gb of ram i would recommened 802.11ac wifi and 8gb of ram which works fine for me)
lmao these computers were used at my local elementary school. From what I heard they bought entirely new ones. I might chime in and ask if they stored those old Optiplexes somewhere.
just remember in addition to computer as a server you also have to have just what power costs. so if you run server for many hours a day or yes 24/7. but if you drive it only a few hours a week it is the cheapest way.
you can get them for free, or for a very low price, from offices that are trying to get rid of the old computers. Sometimes schools, they have a lot of old PC's that they don't use
if your going to port-forward for the minecraft server you may as well open the port for the rdp instead of using team-viewer which at time can randomly change the codes at any time unless your willing to pay for teamviewer
I was expecting more of a hardware tutorial, but here’s a tip for those who are wealthy enough or who don’t mind spending extra money. If you have a good enough dedicated computer to handle a 1gbps connection, you could rent out another internet line to separate the bandwidth between your server and your main network. Then again, at this point, it’ll probably be better to just pay for hosting with extra available ports.
Just out of Personal experience.I find that if you have a lot of pc's like i do.Then remote desktop are easier and faster to use.I got a dual xeon server which are ran completely remotely.Only thing i need to do is press to on button. She doesn't have anything connected to her.My other pc's are fully equipped but i stay in an outside room so i log in with remote desktop. It's a practical setup. No need for a fancy setup :P
I personally think chrome remote desktop is better because you dont need to install loads of stuff and you can access your computer remotely from the web browser. Also im pretty sure it all works from a chrome extension.

Finally the answer to how much dedicated ram I need for a server!
Can I do this with a Laptop too? Would it be possible?
It is most likely possible on any computer that is working, and has an internet connection.
Depending on your laptop, the server may have some lag because it can't process information fast enough, but I have done it on an amd athlon p340
@@resanpyrice9420 Ohh okay, thank you very much for your answer
For anyone seeking a linux distro that would 100% be for hosting Minecraft servers, look up MineOS. Awesome video.
Is this for making serious server, I’d like to have many plugins, with 50+ ppl
No you need some better hardware for that
I mean if your going to have a dedicated Minecraft server machine you might as well use Debian or CentOS GNU/Linux and use free open source software like pterodactyl panel (for minecraft server control) and webmin or cockpit (for system administration). much more effective and easier to manage
(but does require a router with NAT Loopback, which is usually on most high end and gaming routers but not on low end included devices such as Xfinity home router modem combos)
whats the weccomendid amount of dedicatid wam for a serrverr
no-ip.com is quite useful if you have a dynamic ip adress because it checks your ip every 5 minutes and assigns a DNS to it which you can customize
Couldn't you have just used a raspberry pi 4? Because that's not a Minecraft server pc, that's what I call a gaming pc
*looks at my core2duo pc*
Dude ancient computer gang, I've got a pentium 4. Got a wya more powerful laptop tho
LOL when he said click enter my screen went blank and i was like "did i just get hack!?"
then the ads came in. i was like phew. awesome vid btw
Cool
So I've set up a working server on my pi, however it seems like port forwarding isn't working. Does anyone know if this kind of activity can be blocked by the internet provider? Because nothing I do works
thanks, love the vids bro they are always funny and entertaining to watch, I hope you hit 150k soon
Why don't you use linux (you are just wasting soooooo much ram and resources w/ windows) ??!! If you are planning to do this, i would recomend zorin os, elementary os, [not Ubuntu] , linux mint or any other light distro! (i went for zorin, because of the sheer simplicity and ease)
edit: grammar
Why not Ubuntu (esspecially Ubuntu Server) if you use mint you ARE using ubuntu. Also you really want something without a GUI. Such as CentOS (with no GUI installed), Ubuntu Server, Arch (if you're brave), something command line interface (CLI).
You don't have to use the exact megabyte sizes, you can just change the capital M to a capital G and put in a value like 6G or so
0:39 an die deutschen xD
My main PC is an optiplex 790 case swapped with a GTX 1060 and 10GB of RAM. Im wanting to get another optiplex to host my Plutonium server instead of using AWS Free Tier :)
Me: So let's check that video. I want to laugh at them when they will set up Ubuntu with GUI, maybe GNOME, having DE on server, haha funny
This guy: blah blah Windows blah
Me: I wasn't excepting that
I did something similar with an old dell laptop from around 2011, except I did a bit more work on it.
I need a $100 build to do this all parts found at micro center and go
For those wanting to make bungeecord and big minecraft communities on a budget, I bought an HP DL360 gen 7 for like 200$ and it has two xeon 5670 and 48 GB of ram.
i run on a ibm server with 40 gigs of ram because of p l u g i n s
How the hell do plugins take 40gb of ram? Hell, I don't think forge mods should take that much
For your start scripts, you can actual change them to be like this:
java -Xmx1G -Xms1G -jar server.jar nogui
java -Xmx2G -Xms2G -jar server.jar nogui
java -Xmx3G -Xms3G -jar server.jar nogui
java -Xmx4G -Xms4G -jar server.jar nogui
Note: I use CentOS Linux for my server hosting. I HAVE tested this method on windows, debian, and Mac. They all work.
Edit:
He also said to install a bukkit server for plugin support.
You do realize April is a long long ways away right? Windows 10 for a server? lol i'd suggest just disliking and moving on.
me too! JUST USE FKING LINUX (it eats less storage, ram, gpu, cpu and network bandwidth, so you can play beter!!!!)
i just did it myself it works perfectly. I also portforwarded my server and it wasn't that complicated. But i used my old gaming Laptop which has 16gb of ram.
Okie
Got all the information
Now to get the equipment
Thanks
This is really helpful
Most helpful video I’ve found
If both use Windows as the operating system, you can use Remote desktop instead of Teamviewer. Is already included in Windows and you had a program less to take care of
Remote desktop isn't included in windows 10 home :)
Finally... I can use my old lenovo m58p with a core vpro, 3ghz, 2 cores, 4gb ram
You can use a low spec distro such as lubuntu or mint and install multicraft its easy as a cake to setup and you wont need a monitor
This is a nice and cheap idea for Terraria and project zomboid with friends
So yeah, I had a X58 PRO-E laying around with an Intel Xeon X5660 and 40GBs of RAM. Runs quite smooth xD
I might chime in and ask if they stored those old Optiplexes somewhere.
i got some spare desktops which i can use, ill definitely look into this one day
Thank u for your awesome vids ❤️
&THX that is better than 5$ a month for 2gb ram server
just remember in addition to computer as a server you also have to have just what power costs. so if you run server for many hours a day or yes 24/7. but if you drive it only a few hours a week it is the cheapest way.
raspberry pi?
you can get them for free, or for a very low price, from offices that are trying to get rid of the old computers.
Toasty Bros: It is very useful to have a dedicated
PC for Minecraft server becuz its much better and only 50$.
Electricity bill: am i a Joke to you?
lmao yeah thats the only downside, also internet as well obviously
This was helpful. I'm poor but one day I'll have a server.
GTF out of here , that pc is used to our school in the computer lab
