Yeah, I understand that with having a YT channel you want to read certain books first, but I think it's always best to prioritize your reading mood over it, especially if you're very busy/stressed. If you don't enjoy what you read it going to cause even more stress. And we will watch your content whether or not you read according to mood.
Before you even asked if anyone enjoyed the Tana French books, I started nodding vigorously in quiet excitement when you first held them up, despite that I am eating alone in a restaurant
As someone who has a fatigue level after a certain number of books, I get how strenuous some of these book challenges can be. Don’t push yourself too hard and do what works for you because I do enjoy watching what you upload. 👍
Tana French is one of my favorite authors of all time. Her writing is exquisitely atmospheric. Also her character building is one of the best I've come across. Her books are as much about the characters as the mystery itself. Go with an open mind as they are quite slow building but I personally love that. Also the first book is the weakest in the series, which is still really good, but they eventually get better and better with every book.
I'm glad you're picking up more of the expanse series! One of my favorite reads of all time! I loved it as a good summer blockbuster-type series. Fyi though I think you do have book 3 (Abbadon's Gate) and the book you're actually missing is book 2 (Caliban's War)
I loved "Into the water" way more than "The girl on the train" (which is still quite a nice book imo). I think most people have a problem with the fact that you're following the perspective of a bunch of characters and for some that might be hard to keep up with. Also if I remember correctly you have some flashbacks from the past here and there. I personally love books written that way but I can understand how it can become a bit much if you have problems remembering different characters. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
yay I'm glad you got my care package :) yeah I just like to use my anglicized name online cause I know it makes it easier for people to pronounce, lol Hope you'll like the book! (btw I'm so jealous you have books from the Expanse series, I want to read it so badly but in my country it is impossible to find any copies)
Tana French is one of my favorite authors! They aren’t technically a series but some of the same characters pop up in later books. This is the order they were written: In the Woods, The Likeness (my favorite!!!), Faithful Place, Broken Harbor, The Secret Place, The Trespasser, The Witch Elm. I hope you enjoy her as much as I do! Love your channel and I look forward to your videos anytime I jump on RUclips!
I loved The Likeness! I didn’t like In the Woods (not the last half anyway) and thought Faithful place was good but not great. Def need to read the rest though
Same here but my favorite is Broken Harbour, but I love all the books in it. The gimmick with Dublin Murder Squad is that one minor character in the previous novel will be a major one in the next novel. The Likeness kind of reminded me of Secret History (in a good way). One tiny correction, The Witch Elm is not part of the others, it is a standalone. I agree that it is a great novel. Tana French is a great story teller but also a good writer, she completely satiates the hunger for good prose that is in me.
I live in Milwaukee, WI, USA and the central library has an entire store and cafe, all with used books. It recently had its annual $0.25 book sale (yes, that’s right) and all YA books were TWO FOR $0.25 (!!!) I started out reading the synopsis but by the end was just picking up cool book covers. But let me tell you - the people at this sale were *professionals.* They had carts with wheels and lists and they were there to SHOP. It was pretty bananas (and awesome!).
I love the way you pronounce “thriller” and “Readathon”. It’s adorable lol. Your English is practically perfect, and it’s super impressive that you’ve only been speaking it for a short time.
Yeah that’s basically my goal for 2020 as well: to read books that I’ve been dying to read but keep putting off and also to push through some series that I’ve started but then just never finished (assuming I’m still interested in them).
I've read the first book in the Powder Mage trilogy and it's REALLY good. It's a flintlock fantasy which centeres around guns and bullets and it's really unique. I highly recommend it.
POWDER MAGE YEAAHHH!!! I have been looking forward to see this series in your channel! Because I'm curious what are you going to think about it. 😄😄 I dont want to rise up the expectations BUT i think the magic system is pretty darn good + the plot also promising.😄 (i dont want to give spoilers) The only downside would be constant changing of point of view? The story is not strictly linear- with chapters you change to a different character since the lead ones usually not in the same place, and sometimes it just hard to follow whats happening or you just want to skip it to get the one you are interested. 🤔 But i think all in all its good and I hope you will enjoy it ^^
Berly Nice book haul. A lot of good books indeed. I added the fantasy ones on my Goodreads lists. I've read the Into the water in translated in French. I didn't enjoy reading it, but I heard some people loved it. I'm not a fan of thrillers maybe it explains why I did not like it.
I came to realise that the books I pick up on a whim, not knowing anything about them, I tend to love so much more than books I do research about before buying 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Tana French is one of my favorite authors! Although I have to admit that I stated The Witch Elm and after a few pages I decided to stop. Either way her detective series is great! Great complex characters! In the first book the protagonists are a female and a male detective. In the second one only the female is the lead and her supervisor in that one is the protagonist of the 3rd book and he has some sort of “rival” which is then the protagonist of the 4th and so on.. so I think it’s really interesting to see the same character through the eyes of other characters and then getting to know them yourself.
The first book in that Tana French series started off really strong, but towards the end I was so fed up with the MC and didn’t like the ending that I nearly gave up on the series. But the second book was AMAZING, and third pretty good (though not a fave). Eventually I’ll finish the rest of the series *it’s funny you mentioned this series as I was thinking about it right before watching! The other day I was also thinking of making the Powder Mage a priority as it’s been on my tbr for ages 😆
You NEED to read the powder mage trilogy!! And yes... there's magic in it hahahaha several types of magic actually .... And the expanse algo start with The Expanse
The Powder Mage trilogy is great! I think the following trilogy may be even better. Brian McClellan was one of Brandon Sanderson's students, so the magic system in that world kinda reflects that. Basically, there are multiple types of magic: people can basically snort gunpowder and have enhanced reflexes, the more typical magic (like control of fire, water, etc), and there's some blood magic.
I found the first 5 books in the Temeraire series and Three Dark Crowns at a used bookstore for 13 dollars the other day 😍. I also bought Scythe and Thunderhead aaaand ordered the All For The Game trilogy. Is it obvious my book buying ban has been lifted? Lol
I will be really interested to see what you think of the Brian McClellan. I really wanted to like it. I thought the first book was okay. not great, but okay... and then it went off the rails on the second one. I know it's an unpopular opinion....and it did have a unique magic system, but I don't think that saved it.
The last book I got was actually three, a Lord of the Rings box set. Hopefully I'll start the series next year :) I want to read The Silmarillion first though as I'd planned to read it this year and...didn't :p
J'ai a-do-ré la série de Tana French. Sans blague, je les ai lus pratiquement un à la suite de l'autre, parce que je n'avais pas le goût de rien lire d'autre! Elle écrit magnifiquement bien et les mystères sont très bien tournés!
i've read the first two books in the expanse series, liked them, but still didn't continue the series even though i've owned book three for like 4 years... i also really want to start the three body problem
Haven't finished the 3body problem, I think it's too High Sci Fi for me. But the half I read did kinda blow my mind and I want to finish it. I'm just giving myself time to do so slowly.
Stargirl is great! I loved that book so much. There is a sequel, which I found SO DIFFICULT to get through. (The sequel is called Love, Stargirl.) In my opinion, just stick with the original book.
There is a lot of fuss about the new thriller from Ronan Farrow, "Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators" maybe it's worth looking it up =)
I just read into the water.... and I didn’t really like it. I think we have the same/similar views on mystery/thrillers so I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!
I really hope you like The Powder Mage more than I did because I had so many problems with it. There's literally a line about how someone's fiancee was seduced/stolen away by a "professional philanderer". It is also described that Powder Mages (particularly the males) each have their own harem. I don't think I can go into more details without spoilers. One reviewer called this story "a many book about manly men doing manly things with their manliness" and wow is that apt.
I don't know why people feel so guilty about buying a book just because it looks pretty. The fact that people tend to do that is a direct result of the hard work of the graphic designers.
was unfortunately disappointed by the 3-body problem series. character development just wasnt there even a bit so i couldnt connect with the story at all. cool concept, but as things happened, it was just like "oh this is happening now?" partly because things just happened out of the blue but mostly because it didnt have any real impact because there wasnt a connection there to feel anything over. :(
What's the last book you picked up? :D
Words of Radiance from Brandon Sanderson :D (Currently working my way through his books, I'm really liking them so far)
BookswithEmilyFox. The Princess Bride and Wool 😊
BookswithEmilyFox Skyward and the Way of Kings! Though I haven’t read them yet
Neil Gaiman - The ocean at the end of the lane.
"Kings of the Wyld" by Nicholas Eames. It is fantastic.
Sis where is ur library?? How do they always have great sales?!
They have a monthly sale so it's pretty great! I do have to rush before the people with huge bins tho lol
Yeah, I understand that with having a YT channel you want to read certain books first, but I think it's always best to prioritize your reading mood over it, especially if you're very busy/stressed. Before you even asked if anyone enjoyed the Tana French books, I started nodding vigorously in quiet excitement when you first held them up, despite that I am eating alone in a restaurant
Paula Hawkins The Girl on the Train is sooo good! I've listened to it half a dozen times.
As someone who has a fatigue level after a certain number of books, I get how strenuous some of these book challenges can be. Don’t push yourself too hard and do what works for you because I do enjoy watching what you upload. 👍

The Expanse is my favorite sci-fi series of all time so I can't wait until you read it!! I'm dying to hear what you think!!!
Im currently reading Tana French as well!! I read book2 and loved it (The Likeness)!! I'm now reading The Faithful place (book3).
yay I'm glad you got my care package :) yeah I just like to use my anglicized name online cause I know it makes it easier for people to pronounce, lol
Hope you'll like the book!
(btw I'm so jealous you have books from the Expanse series, I want to read it so badly but in my country it is impossible to find any copies)

I can't wait to get into her books! I think I'm a bit intimidated because there are quite a few books and I have so many series on the go already lol
The Likeness was def my favorite also!

"so over 2019, I'm already planning 2020" GURL SAMEEE
I love the way you pronounce “thriller” and “Readathon”. It’s adorable lol. Your English is practically perfect, and it’s super impressive that you’ve only been speaking it for a short time.
Yeah that’s basically my goal for 2020 as well: to read books that I’ve been dying to read but keep putting off and also to push through some series that I’ve started but then just never finished (assuming I’m still interested in them).
Dublin Murders series by Tana French has just been made into a series by the BBC and it looks fab, really want to read it now😁
I love the Expanse! I read the first and loved it so much I got the next 5. Highly recommend!
I LOVED the Powder Mage trilogy! The action scenes are so well done. I think you’ll like it.
Powder Mage was amazing! It launched the author into my short favorites list (I'm picky).
Stargirl 😍 a very good read when I was in college!
I've read the first book in the Powder Mage trilogy and it's REALLY good. It's a flintlock fantasy which centeres around guns and bullets and it's really unique. I highly recommend it.
I just added star girl to my tbr list too
:)
Only because Booksandlala said that it’s one of her all time favorites
I have read all but one of the Tana French novels. I LOVE them!!
POWDER MAGE YEAAHHH!!! I have been looking forward to see this series in your channel! I relate so much to your level of tiredness in this video
This girl needs way more sleep lol
I have had the three body problem on my to read list as long as you 😂 I read the first tana french detective book, it was great.
Ugh! The expanse serie is amazing, some of of my favorites sci-fi

Me it's mostly the opposite haha

With Malice gets bad comments, but I really loved it. The writing style was amazing and the plot was engaging.
Noooooooo! Into the water.... Looking forward to hearing your thoughts 😂
You gotta bump up The Expanse series ASAP! It’s so good. So so so so good.
I read Into the Water, and 75% of the way in, I put it down because I really wasn't enjoying it. Hope to hear your thoughts on it.
I started reading that one because I loved The Girl on the Train, but I couldn't get into it either.
Read Stargirl as an adult and really liked it :)
I am joining the tana French clamoring. The first book really reminded me of the show broadchurch in the atmosphere department. If that says anything.
charity yoder you had me at « Broadchurch ». I obviously need to read Tana French now!
I found the first 5 books in the Temeraire series and Three Dark Crowns at a used bookstore for 13 dollars the other day 😍. I also bought Scythe and Thunderhead aaaand ordered the All For The Game trilogy. Is it obvious my book buying ban has been lifted? Lol

🤣🤣🤣 I also only have books 1, 2 & 4 of the expanse series
My library had a sale, I don’t know.. like 20 years ago and all they sold out were books from the 50th and 60th 😂
The library sale I go to you have to beat the book resellers, they snatch up all the good newer books
I read the first Tana French. It was VERY good but very dark.
I'm excited to hear what you have to say about literally all of these books!
How do you hold so many books?
What’s your lipstick? 😊
The last book I got was actually three, a Lord of the Rings box set. Hopefully I'll start the series next year :) I want to read The Silmarillion first though as I'd planned to read it this year and...didn't :p
Into the water is really good. Better than "the girl on the train"

You probably read The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, Into the Water is good, I really liked it, I read it when I was getting into thrillers
I spoke too soon, haha I paused the video to make this comment and then you figured it out on your own.
It was one of those days haha
You always make me laugh 😆
Stargirl is great! I loved that book so much. There is a sequel, which I found SO DIFFICULT to get through. (The sequel is called Love, Stargirl.) In my opinion, just stick with the original book.

I use the libib app to keep track of all my books that I own.
I’ve heard good things about Tana French!
Omg READ STARGIRL! Like Now Emily!!
I'm planning a vlog with it soonish :)
I just read into the water.... and I didn’t really like it. I think we have the same/similar views on mystery/thrillers so I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!
You are my favourite channel ever.
Start the Expanse series... it’s so good!
What does she say in the beginning
We need to talk about the giant Cheerios box. 🥣
I need a life time supply!
I really hope you like The Powder Mage more than I did because I had so many problems with it. One reviewer called this story "a many book about manly men doing manly things with their manliness" and wow is that apt.
Oh wow you're the first to mention that... we'll see how it goes!
I like tired Em!
That's been me for the last 2 months I feel like haha
Tired you is so funny 😆
I've probably read Stargirl when I was 12... jfc it was 15 years ago and I remember nothing xD
I’m over 2019 too 2020 will be better lol
I dnf into the water, wasnt my thing
I've been curious about the Expanse series. Anyone who has read it, please tell me if you liked it or not.
It really is an all-time favorite of mine, I'm on book 5 now and each book just blows the last one out of the water so I can't recommend it enough :)
Have read all 8 books that are out so far. It really is an excellent series. Go for it!
Seriously, how are you not sponsored by Cheerios?! 😂
Crossing my fingers...
Honestly though I feel like a vlog being sponsored by the drink or snack I'm eating would be ideal 😂
I'll also be keeping my fingers crossed for that!
I love your channel 💖💖💖 you’re so cute
The last book I read was And then there were none
I don't know why people feel so guilty about buying a book just because it looks pretty. The fact that people tend to do that is a direct result of the hard work of the graphic designers.
I didn’t like With Malice, but that was because of the ending not because it’s badly written
ayy first ✌️♥️
was unfortunately disappointed by the 3-body problem series. character development just wasnt there even a bit so i couldnt connect with the story at all. cool concept, but as things happened, it was just like "oh this is happening now?" partly because things just happened out of the blue but mostly because it didnt have any real impact because there wasnt a connection there to feel anything over. :(
Into the water is pretty crappy tbh, 2.5 at best for me :/
Into the Water by Paula Hawkins is absolute trash. I hope you have a better experience to with it
You look different
Not a fan of Paula Hawkins. Zzz
Want to hear about into the water and the electric pink binder book the strange death of Fiona Griffiths. That that one just sounds interesting.
