Hitching Out of Kumamoto to Fukuoka ☆ LIVE #05

- In Kumamoto, I went to the intersection of Route 1 and Route 3 to hitch a ride to Fukuoka. It was a good spot in some ways but also challenging. The road was well trafficked but but there was a bus lane that made it difficult for cars to stop.
What happens?
19:45 my phone falls to the groud
27:50 Half way through a man who speaks English and was with his family spoke to me and told me I should probably hitch to Ueki Interchange instead of looking for a direct ride to Fukuoka.
I changed the sign.
31:50 I write a new sign to Ueki IC thanks to the advice of a passer by.
39:21 A nice man who was watching the feed came out on his motorbike and offered a ride to Kumamoto IC.
He brought me a can coffee too!
42:00 Another man slowly drove by and stopped at the 7-11 and walked over to say he'd take me to Ueki IC. His name was Kazuhiro and we talked a lot until he dropped me off at the IC.
It only took 3 minutes for the next ride to stop.
Watanabe-san didn't want to ride alone and we talked the whole way to Fukuoka where she drove me directly to mu hotel!
Amazing day!

Feeling great that even after taking a break on my japanese studies for around 1.5 years, I've fully understood every conversation in japanese you had ( N4 level student here ).
Indeed People are way nice in japan!
I remember 4 years ago when i was there for a month, there was this one time me and my friend were just outside a 7 eleven with some newly aqquired Pokemon prizes from a bottle of tea , and some buisnessmen in front of us gave us one of theirs since they already had that one :D

I know, isn't it the best? 😂😂 ❤❤
Special shout out to the family that give John an alternative route, Sato san & the guy that gave him a ride, you are the man, god bless you!

We are loving this so much! It took longer than to Kagoshima, but the guy with the coffee who saw you on RUclips??!?!?! So nice!!!!
Bless anyone and everyone who takes their time out to help others. You guys are the people this world truly needs these days, and are starting to become a rare breed. The true beautiful people. Luckily Japan is FULL of nice people. Makes me want to go there instead.
Wow, even in just an improve stream you can still make me feel like I'm watching a PBS documentary. Your videos are so good!
Brings back memories of my trip to Hokkaido. My brother and I were lost trying to find this building to collect our WIFI dongle and we spoke no Japanese at all. But as we walked into a coffee shop nearby to ask if we could use their WIFI to find the location, we met such a nice Japanese customer who actually spoke some English and even tried searching the location on Google Maps for us and not only that, when he found the location he actually left his things at the shop and DROVE us(strangers) all the way to the doorstep of the building and took the elevator up to the office and made sure we got to the right place with no intention whatsoever but to help!! This was the best experience I can say I had with the encounter of Japanese hospitality.
This one was great. That family really helped you out by suggesting you change destinations. And Satou-San was incredibly cool! Hopefully you make one big movie out of this once it's over!
Oh my Godness. I have to admit I am addicted to watch the hitchhiking series. These videos bring me a lot of hope, fun and positivity:). Thank you John. Keep up good work!

車が止まるとこ目の前で見れてよかったよ!頑張ってジョンさん(^^)
Nice. Congrats on getting a ride.
Superb plot twist at 19:46! :D
One day in not so big Kyoto Street, I was confused where was the bus stop which leading me to Kyoto Station then suddenly Old Woman with her dog stopped by. She was trying to describe with Japanese language and sketch on my paper as well however I still didn't understand.
Using with her body language, she asked me for waiting. She went back to her home, widely opened the garage, she took her car and gave me a ride to Kyoto Station. I always telling everyone this unforgettable experience when I got back to my country.
Japan is such a heavenly country. Anyway, love your video, John! Cheers from Indonesia.
Oh my goodness people in japan are so nice. Where I live people wouldn't do that because they will think you were a murderer or something.
Some roads between norway and Sweden there is problems with "Pirates" that we acteally fear hitchhikers that is close to forest were other people can hide.
same...Japan is a really nice place to live
kuurocks my country too :)
kuurocks in the Philippines, you can always find a ride from the bike taxis or the jeepneys
in my country, his video would end at the very beginning because his phone would be robbed
I love your videos, you really keep them interesting!
Next leg of the journey: Complete! So happy to see all of the beautiful people and incredible kindness. We love you, see you soon!
I'm so thankful for your well wishes and always supporting me. THANK YOU!! -john
+ONLY in JAPAN Thank you for the reply! It is my absolute pleasure, good sir. You're one of my favorite people and will always have my support. :-)
Fantastic! I've always wondered about hitching in Japan. Good luck man. Mata ney
I feel so much happy for you ......... that u got ride :)......... and it is very good to see there are still very nice people out there taking time to help others.......... great ............ :)
If more people were are friendly, nice & helpful as these Japanese, we could make the world a little better everyday :)
The ending was the best I though the guy on the motorized bike making sure you were ok and hydrated. :)
And then finally getting a ride.
And to see you light up and smile to. :)
何気にコーヒー差し入れしたけど、この人めちゃくちゃ凄い人やんか!?
調べてビックリした!!(笑)
Yay I'm so glad you hitched a ride in the end, John, after all your effort. Interesting how no one seemed to honk at you!
haha!! Right. I never thought about that. Many people waved or bowed their head to say hello though. -john
I don't know why it's so entertaining to watch a man try and hitchhike...... but it is:
Wow so cool and so9 nice that guy stop and give you a drink and then the man to stop for you and drive you :) l knew someone was going to pick you up l had a feeling that someone would do that :) GOOD LUCK on your trip ;D
Also it's nice you are doing these live videos. It feels like we are in Japan with you.
Honestly, I never thought I'd watch for 46 min's of a guy trying to hitchhike from one place to another.
I love how that guy just swoops in with a canned coffee in hand. XD
I hope you find a ride soon John, be safe buddy!!!!
I'm happy John is on his way!
Oh so glad you got a lift part way and that people care enough to stop and keep you company. Although I have a feeling you won't be stopping at the interchange.... let's see what happens ......
Make sure you check out the Sea Hawk Hotel it is shaped like a boat on the shore, and the Fukuoka Dome, and don't forget the awesome night ramen vendors in town!! If you have time the little island off shore out from the hotel has some pretty cool gardens. There is a ferry to get you there. Safe travels John! :-) -Jamie
Thanks Jamie! I actually ws not impressed by the night vendors. The quality was average, price high, service rude. But it's nice the place still exists and part of the city's identity. I'll try to check out those other things too. -john
Wow, that's a bummer I spent 3 months in Fukuoka, but that was about 13-14 years ago. We use to go get Ramen once a week and would hangout for hours in those little stands. Take care. :-) -Jamie
im so glad that someone finally pick u up
beautiful people beautiful country very polite and friendly arrigatto Nippon 🍙🍥🍣🍢🍱🍵👘🎎🎌🏯
For once, i didn't miss the live. It was great ! =D
glad you got the ride!

Is there a way to have both front and back cameras going at the same time? It might be interesting to have a picture-in-picture layout with one camera in a small area in the corner on top of the other. That way we could see what you see behind the phone, like the oncoming traffic.
THAT would be awesome! I have a 360 camera but i don't think it would look good unless it has fast wifi. im using 4G signals.
G'day John :D I'm a big fan bro.
Way to go John!!! We knew that you could do this!!! Ganbatte!!
WOW! Nice cliffhanger.
You're awesome, keep up the good work !
Is he doing this just for the video. If so thank you so much 😊
those timestamps!!! YESSSS. thank you john-san!
I love these videos!!!
i wonder if John's trip is being covered in local news or the Japanese forums 🤗
If I live in Japan, I definitely will go to the place where you are, as soon as you live on RUclips..
Happy you got home safely!!
Glad it worked for you. You might consider buying fresh strawberries at a local supermarket for good health. BTWY did you see Kumamoto castle? Have a safe journey.
3号線懐かしか!That was actually a good choice. 頑張れJohnさん!

Wow I watched 45 minutes of this
So awesome, every man's dream.
Glad you made it!
How cute idea!!!! Hopely you succeed it
this is so exciting !!
2:40 that guy in the back walking like a GTA pedestrian 😂
hahahahaha
ONLY in JAPAN you made my day :)
Just rewatching videos of the hitchhiking I missed, when the little girl was put down, she runs like she's screaming "FREEDOM"
This looks exhausting. How much are bus tickets? Or a bicycle? Or a good pair of hiking boots?! Good luck!!!
ok John stay safe !
damn that guy pulled over to give you a soda....damn i love Japanese people. i dont say that everyone Japanese citizen would do that but it was really nice of him. where i live no one would ever do such a kind action
John, when do you bow at a driver? when you catch a driver's attention? or when a driver grimace at you?
I love Japanese people I have so much respect for them I wish I could move to Japan for the rest of my life Japan is beautiful so are the people Great video you're so lucky I wish I was living in Japan I have so much respect for them and I want to train their karate 🥋 I want to learn from them because their system is perfect in karate
Anyone know if hitchhiking is common in Japan/what's the general view on it there?
Linds Tee it's not common. Young people do it sometimes. It's a fun way to get around. I like it because I get to meet new people and it's much more of an adventure.
would it help if you said your on youtube on sign? They might think you are a star! or " help me get to ______ destination"
I actually watched 40 minutes of a guy trying to get a hitch hike at 1 AM
great video. see all no cutting. if you just cut the video when you get the car, it would be boring. you did this way great, to see how long and how it look like as you get tired.
And I like you are talking to us, about what is happening.
I know this is about 3 years to late, but can we get some sort of basic translation for the conversation with John and Sato-san? Small talk may seem unimportant, but it's still always interesting and informative to a non native speaker.
sorry for my late question, what was reason you chose live and work in japan?
John you started it long time ago probably it will be the new hobby in japan. hitchhiking from south to hokkaido
Such pretty weather for hitchhiking
Perfect weather! Today -- rain. Glad it's an editing (and ramen) day.
ONLY in JAPAN i posted this on the Instagram live video, but there were a lot of comments there. Watching this it was so nice to see that family give you additional pointers on the IC and the one guy on the mo-ped who stopped and gave you something to drink and wait with you
John you should film also where you are going to sleep or eat and other special places you think it's interesting.
I am live streaming when I came but I'm lso filming it all too. I'll try to upload those when i'm done but I'm always moving and my computer is slow. hahaha! I'll do my best. -john
have u ever going to somewhere with the bus in Japan I wonder how it feels like
John is such a great guy I wish I could meet him
Does anyone know when he's gonna live broadcast again?
Make sure notifictions are on by clicking the bell by the subscribe button :) I try to broadcast between 11am and 4pm Japan time. -john
ONLY in JAPAN thank you John. Absolutely love your channel 🙏🏼
nothing....they are absolutely amazing
I KNEW SOMEONE WATCHING WOULD GET HIM
Looks like fun. Stay out of jail. Also take us out for a Roast Duck Dinner.
見た目は楽しいよ。刑務所から出ないでください。ローストダックディナーのために私たちを連れて行ってください。
• Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
This can happen in Japan, but not Malaysia. Respect the Japanese for being so kind to help a stranger.
Ganbatte John!!!!!! 💪
next life goal : Learn Japanese , work in Japan , live in Japan
JahJah date a japanese
no need to do harakiri though. if you had that goal, just strike it out.
Are you going to visit Oita?
Damn it!!! japanese people r so freaking kind!!!
There is a man in India that held (or still holds) up his right arm for 38 years :-)
what did he talk about with Saito-san?(if i hear the name correctly)
So is it legal to hitchhike in Japan?
There's no law.
Is it me or is john actually good looking?
Jaime Granado he's really handsome :))
Jaime Granado his smile is what gets me!
Jaime Granado Yup! He is a very good looking man. I have always thought so...
@22:54 that BMW i3 though.. BMW and electric car is not a good combo.
Anyway my favorite part is when he said "it could happen at any moment.. Spidey senses.." and sure enough someone pulled over with a can of coffee. ONLY in JAPAN
yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh jhon
hi... Go to the game store Souko Befu Fukuoka and show us the store please 😊. Take care! and be safe. 🙌🍜 Thanks for ur videos
