@Naomiiiish It was unreasonable. Rachel was not just some random ex-girlfriend. She was Monica's best friend and lived with her. And all six were all a very close group. So basically she was asking Ross to never see any of her friends again. There was only one way for Ross to not see Rachel again and that was for Ross to move to England and leave his son, family and friends behind. So that was not an option for him either. Emily never should have continued with the wedding in the first place.

I mean I loved Ross and Emily chemistry, really loved their story of how Ross went to England for her and how Emily came back to America for him. They had everything perfect, their wedding planning was going so well. If it wasn't for Rachel none of these would have happened. I mean Emily did a lot for Ross and for the fact that she still accepted Ross even after he said Rachel's name says a lot that Emily really was a good person and she had every right to ask Ross to stay away from Rachel. In that process his friends should have an issue with Rachel not Emily because in the end everyone would have to be together with their partner and focus on building their family.

      No.
It's like Julie. Actress Lauren Tom said the audience would actively boo her (the actress) because she was coming in between Ross and Rachel. When she (the character) was completely blameless.
It was similar negative energy towards Emily. Her big mistake was not recognizing she couldn't trust Ross earlier so she tried to micromanage him to *try* and save the marriage (when that never works.)

Why do people continue to cite Ross's marriage to Carol as if it ending was somehow *his* fault?! If anything it only proves that of course he knows marriage! He did everything he could to save his marriage to Carol, it ended due to forces entirely outside of his control and he mourned it.
As for Emily the speed with which one marries someone you are in love/compatible with has nothing to do with knowing what it takes to make a marriage work once you are in it. Ross went on to do whatever he could to give Emily she wanted to make the marriage work until it became clear she was never going to truly trust him again.

I understand the first divorce wasn't his fault but don't flex your marriage in other people's faces especially when you're still a newlywed in an already toxic relationship. @@Hx3ney I can judge said person when they make it their mission to ruin their partners life before leaving.
I agree that she was wronged, all parties involved were wrong except her at the beginning. She was humiliated in front of her family. She should've left then and there. But she chose to teach him a lesson I guess.
All the things you mentioned were lost by both Emily and Ross. While she sat in the comfort of her home , he lost his house and his job, was ready to give up his family his friends (not just Rachel) his own son (he was moving) and still that wasn't enough for her and all it took was a phone call to end everything.
She even had the audacity to call him years later when she was about to marry another guy .
This wasn't mourning a loss, or at least not only that . She was being purposefully vile. Perhaps she didn't even notice but she wasn't a victim by the end of the story.

No matter what Ross does it still doesn't compensate even for half of what Emily had to endure.

  • @SillyKatt69
    @SillyKatt69 Год назад +23

I have to say, the show was obviously a comedy, lot of the characters are flawed a lot, and a lot of the resolving of the problems makes no sense; but they really sometimes provide interesting dillemas. The whole "we were on a break" is a very 50/50 situation, where you can side with both Rachel and Ross and in my opinion both were reasonable in a way (both were also unreasonable, but let's put that aside for now). The whole Emily situation is so interesting and I find it fascinating how it still "divides" people. Emily had to suffer through so much with Ross, and she does seem unreasonable I guess - but also Ross sacrificing everything (mostly Rachel) is something that would make her trust him again and after being so humiliated in front of eveyone she knows, is it really that unreasonable? You can't have marriage on different continents, one of them had to move anyway; and if Ross does it, for her it's the one proof she needs to trust him again. Of course in reality that relationsip was doomed from the start, Ross always loved Rachel and they were written to be together, but if The Almighty Writers didn't exist and Ross said the right name, I can imagine him and Emily being endgame.
I don't know, I understand both the friend group and Emily in this situation. I think if her whole request with Ross not seeing Rachel was rephrased to "not being with Rachel alone", it would be much more understandable. He can't cut so deeply in the middle of the friend group and stop completely seeing her, but if Emily's request was simply "you can only see her when you're all together", I would be much more on her side, and I can imagine so would the rest.
.... Why am I spending so much time on this comment I will never know lol

    • @dante6985

No you're right to write an essay.
People in foreign countries have went on extended RUclips rants about how they "didn't get Friends' popularity."
It's television comfort food. It's usually not uproariously funny but it's light-hearted. It's a soap opera about young people finding themselves in a comedy envelope, which is a deeper premise than it seems.
And it's aged well and still entertaining to watch. The thing Friends did which annoys my 2023 sensibilities is "jokes-by-proxy": we can't make fun of fat people, so we'll make Monica a *former* fat person. We can't make fun of gay people so we'll make *Chandler's Dad* gay (then a trans woman.) It's like the showrunners want the credit for not making fat or gay jokes when they were. And that's fine that those jokes were there IMHO, it's just I respect comedies like Blazing Saddles or Tropic Thunder for /going there/.

Always thought not seeing Rachel at all was unrealistic and unreasonable because she lived with his sister and was friends…no pun intended……with his best friends. But more something like that they not be alone together and not talk on the phone….unless an emergency. This could give time to build trust and show respect for Ross and Emily’s marriage. Something like that. I know it’s a tv show. But did have something vaguely similar in real life. When it’s unrealistic to cut all contact due to circumstances, clear boundaries are needed.
