I applaud Joey for being honest with Ross about the Emily situation.
Shoot I would be too, however I’d probably be a lot meaner about it🤣
Atleast has to say the right name in the wedding. If it happens in real life you would do the same things Emily did.
@@wendymarie7151 after what Ross did? The friends group from an outsider perspective are total assholes
@@tomjoseph181 Well, I wouldn’t have married him at all lol. She chose to still marry him even after he said Rachel when she had the full opportunity to back out so it was kind of weird for her to still marry him and then ice him out
@@wendymarie7151 Rachel went to london but she didn't said what she want it, she said 'congratulations'. Let's not forget how Ross invited her to the wedding, she said no but what if she actually said yes and went to the wedding, he would have made the same mistake because Ross ask Emily to marry him when he still had feelings for rachel. He said her name because he was still in love with her.
Ross ask Emily to marry him, say the wrong name at the altar AND ask rachel to go with him to Greece.
Then he didn't try to give her some space, just stalking her family. Then he ask her to live with him in new york. And then stops everything because he didn't want to stop seeing Rachel and because she couldn't trust him.
Emily wasn't the problem, it was Ross. Poor Julie, poor Mona, poor Emily.
Everyone needs a friend like Joey.
Yup! Honest whether his friends want him to be or not, cares about his friends and is ready to sacrifice his opinion and pretend to be okay with the friend's decision even though it does not sit well with him for the sake of the friend's happiness, while also being to say or do anything to protect said happiness. Love this guy!

Yes, I saw that.
When Ross said Rachel's name, Emily should have ended things right there. That one act said all she needs to know, she might have his life and his home and his last name, but he will always love Rachel. There will always be 3 people in that marriage. Emily will never have his heart.

Why do you consider intimate partner violence to be acceptable when women do it to men?
@@jonathanxavier2026 well.. Of course this shouldn't be the right thing to do but if I had to defend myself:

@@eatntell but the reality is Rachel went after Ross when he was involved
Emily should have stopped the wedding. It's a red flag already if your partner says a different name. She just prolonged her agony. Just saying.
And when she saw him with Rachelle on the flight to his honeymoon… major red flag
Same... Ross fucked up
The only thing Emily did wrong was trying to break the group. Everything else was completely justified. It was Ross's fault for marrying a woman when he was clearly in lovee with someone else.
Yeah, but how can you accept the whole group when your man is in love with someone in that group? If he can't give her up, then you should move on.
I mean, I wouldn't be too keen on my lover being clearly in love with one of his close friends but still, making him move and get rid of everything he owns seems a bit exaggerated. She should have just left him at the wedding, or not try to fix things after that.
To be fair on Emily, it was Rachel's fault. Girl leaves her very pregnant friend alone to tell your soon-to-be Husband that she loves him on his wedding day. Heck even Dr. House (The guy on the plane) tells her that she's a awful person.

I feel like a lot of us have been in Joey's shoes where someone in your life is in a horrible relationship and you desperately wanna say something and try to get them to see the relationship isn't a healthy one but also don't wanna have the person push you away either. Several times with different people in my life I've just wanted to shake them and be like "wake up already!"
@B Anger is justified, completely taking over a persons life or making them crawl trough the dust to make up for it is not. Which is what Emily did after the wedding. Telling somebody to stop seeing a friend, to sell all your stuff, to move to a different place, to be constandly checked up on, and pretty much give up everything that matters to you to just not lose 1 person is very unhealthy. I'd be pissed too if somebody I married said the wrong name. At that point you have to make a choice, and not a rushed one. Do break off the wedding, but not yet the relationship. Take a moment to really think things trough. Can you forgive and move on? If so than properly forgive and move on and dont try to control their lives and dont ever use it as a means to guilt trip in the future. If it goes well you can always marry later. Can you not forgive and move on? Then dont try and break it off respectfully. There is no future if you cant truly move on from this.
Same... i have seen my friends being hurt by the same person and in the same way as i had anticipated. Once i said it out loud to a friend which obviously she did not take very well and went with the guy anyway. She cut ties with me over it but i hear she ain't happy in the relationship. I hope she realises it and gets the happiness she deserves.

@@thedragonfaequeen girl I understand 100%! It's the same for my brother and his wife. She has never been right for him, treats him like crap,it isn't a partnership it's what she says goes,he has become a person I don't even recognize when once upon a time we were best friends and she has COMPLETELY turned him against us. To me my brother is one of the most precious people there is in my life and he deserves an angel.
Emily demanded all these crazy things, in reality she should have just ended it at the wedding. Seems like the rest of her actions are just her self sabotaging the relationship mixed with punishing Ross.
*edit* didn’t mean emily wasn’t justified in her frustrations, just think it would’ve been better for both of them if they ended at the wedding
@Toofacedbaby05..Well yes, hence controlling Emily made Ross miserable. Lol
Nope... Ross should have ended things and let her go...he is the one still in love with another woman but because his pride won't let him have another failed relationship...he tries to do everything Emily demands and came up with that bs about being married and being an adult.
If you have to sacrifice a lot to keep something...is not worth it... sooner or later, all the frustrations will catch up and you will realize how much time you wasted being miserably.
She did end things right after the wedding, but Ross kept calling every single member of her family, begging her to give him another chance. She relented and told him her conditions, the conditions were harsh and severe but how could it be otherwise after what Ross did ? He wanted them to try to make their relationship work no matter what so that's honestly not on Emily if she wasn't comfortable with him being with Rachel so much. It actually makes A LOT of sense.
@@shanouboubou Begging to be given a chance doesn't mean she has to be unreasonable. I can understand her pain but her actions can't be justified.
@@karlos777x He said someone else's name, it's not like he cheated. The one making the unreasonable demands is emily, not ross. He was willing to make things work but she made it impossible.
That "compromise" speech might be one of my favourite acting moments from David Schwimmer in this show. You feel the frustration and weariness in him, and it really adds a lot to Ross' character, in my opinion.
Everyone was angry at Joey for being honest but Ross was very clearly not happy, no matter what he says. Joey was the only one that had the balls and cared enough to do it.
Ross is the one who create this mess..he just used Emily for his sh*tty feeling...he is not the parameter to see things like he is victim..
@@tingle2323 Didn’t say he was the victim. I just said he wasn’t happy.
Yes. Joey was not very bright, but despite that he was the ONLY one to have the guts to tell Ross the truth as a friend. Even though Ross just got angry at him, he really needed to hear that.
We should all be so lucky as to have a friend who cares about us so much that they would risk our turning on them to tell us the truth.
Ross lecturing people about how they don't know what it takes to make a marriage works and it's all about compromising has to be one of the biggest jokes of the show
He would know best. The rest of them have never been married. His last marriage ended through no fault of his own, his wife turned out to be a lesbian. And co-parenting with her and her partner whom she left him for is a great example of understanding compromise.
@@propogandalf except that one of the biggest flaws in Ross' personality is the fact the he doesn't compromise, his relationship with Rachel is the biggest example, but it happened with everyone, Phoebe was the only one able to break him. and he was wrong about this, his relationship with Emily was beyond saving, I found very surprising (and stupid) that she didn't stopped the wedding after what he did
@B I don't think forgive someone is compromising, and with Emily he said himself he was doing everything she asked so she would agree to see him.. also there's a lot of examples of how bad at compromising he was, almost every single fight with Rachel, almost every fight he had with Monica if not all, etc. but I agree how they were not fair with Emily, and honestly most viewers are not fair with her either, everyone talks about how unreasonable she was as if it was her fault and the whole situation wasn't worst for her.
I loved all the characters except Ross and Rachel. They were perfect of each other in the worst of ways
@@propogandalf him failing a lot of mariges makes him a marige expert? excuse me what. and since its a Tv show we can even see into the future and know none of the people hes speaking to will fail their marige.
Unpopular opinion here, but Emily was uprooting her entire life to be with someone who she didnt trust but wanted to make things work with. She was the one sacrificing the most here, genuinely trying inspite of her reservations, and her paranoia concerning ross is kind of justified, considering how little time had passed since ross and rachel were together (and him saying her name, obvs). I dont think she handled it perfectly, but shes not the villain they set her up to be, and Ross handles all of this terribly (but I think we all agree at this point that ross is the worst)
I agree, just because Ross was the main character all his crappy mistakes were justified,we came to justify that he didn't trust his partners because of what happened with Carol but now when poor Emily became paranoid because of what Ross did to her, everyone hates her....She was willing to leave behind her entire life in London for Ross!!!
I agreeee
I agree with all your points. Except Ross isn't the worst character in the series, a close second sure, He was controlling, paranoid and possessive. But in my honest opinion, Rachel was the worst character in the series. How many of Ross' relationships did she sabotage just because she thinks she loves him(Julie, Bonnie, Emily, the saleslady from the baby store, and many others) and when ross inevitable ends his relationships with the other girls for Rachel. Rachel suddenly decides that she doesn't want Ross again. And the cycle continues. Oh and lets not forget Rachel's other big hits like saying "Yes" to Joey's "proposal" just after giving birth to her and Ross' child. I mean come on.
@@elijahbunagan8603 LOL YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. RACHEL AND ROSS WERE THE WORST!

I like that even though Phoebe's last bit was played for laughs, it shows that she'll march to the beat of her own drum. Just because Ross raised valid points doesn't mean she'll change her opinion.
I always hated the fact that everyone and especially ross at many occassions always treated joey like he's not a grownup or like he is a child. That's so rude. Like the time when they were playing Chandler's dumb states game.. Ross did the same thing
Yes. Joey being concerned about his friend and honestly addressing what he thought about Emily was great. But Ross was just desperate enough to make his marriage work and hurt his friends, not that he was IN love with Emily. 😐
Why is everyone putting this show under a microscope lately? Lol it's just a sitcom for fuck's sake
I love Joey so much, but admit it, we would all treat him like that. He's a child, he is very naive and can be even stupid sometimes, and we love him for that. But Joey is a great friend, he always tries to make things right when it comes to his friends, i don't really see where he behaves like a grownup here, he's just caring. And i don't remember when someone in the group made fun of Joey's personality before he says something stupid, but even now and then, every single character gets teased in the group, Joey is not even a prime target here. It's called friendship.
P.S.: Chandler didn't mean to embarrass Joey in the states game, it's just a game🤦♂️
Look at how Joey treats women and relationships for most of the series. He IS dumb and childish. Of course responsible academic Ross would talk down to someone like that.
Man it's just a funny show don't take it seriously just watch and laugh
One of the main things I love about Joey is that he’s always honest & blunt about everything, and how much he would look out for his friends even if it means might hurting their feelings or them getting mad at him.
It was Ross who begged Emily to come back. And after what he did at the wedding any normal person would have acted like Emily did. There was no reason to hate her. Rather they could have given the couple some more time and space!
Exactly! That he and Rachel did was afwul. Yet somehow Emily is a bitch and we all have to hate her.ughh
No any normal person would have just ended things not make the other person change everything about their lives she was definitely being petty.
"Any normal person would have acted like Emily did".
No, honey. She have every right to be upset, jealous, sad and all of that. But even if Ross was the one who begged her, SHE was the one who ACCEPTED give him a change. She wanted to control his life to a extremely toxic point, she has no excuse to be like that. She choose be with him when she did not trust him.
Sounds like u really want the friend group to break up
Not just the wedding. He was going on his honeymoon with the woman whose name he said at the altar. All people talking about how she expected him to change his whole life are ignoring the fact that he was expecting her to be all alone on a whole new continent to be with him.
Lmao I really don't blame Emily for this. Fact is Ross said his ex-girlfriend's (Someone who he still hangs out with) name during the vows. Of course she is going to be feeling insecure and worried. She also can't let Ross go because she loved him. Fact is Ross shouldn't have even considered marrying Emily if he still had feelings for Rachel.

They knew each other less than 3 months before they decided to marry. That decision alone made them BOTH idiots right from the start - you should not marry someone you have only known for such a short time. You don't know anything about the other person at all.
If it wasn't this that broke them up (had the actress not gotten pregnant and been written out of the series this way), their marriage would have fallen apart within less than a year anyway. Because they didn't really know each other.
Making Ross cut Rachel out was one thing. But forcing him to sell all his furniture was very controlling.
ross was wrong about the “ compromise “ thing. this wasn’t compromise. this was emily forcing ross to stop talking/being friends with rachel, selling all of his stuff that had rachel “ cooties “ on it, making him move so far so he was away from them.. this wasn’t compromise at all & it bothered me so much that he said that
I don’t blame Emily for acting the way she did at all. I probably would’ve reacted worse than her if that happened to me!

Isolating someone after you chose to continue to get married isn’t okay. I get why she’s upset but legit having him move away from anywhere close to Rachel which also takes her away from Monica his family. She’s taken him away from his friends. If she really doesn’t trust him, she shouldn’t have continued to stay at him. Being controlling aint it either. Especially since she was doing this from another country.

But the thing is Rachel not even confess to him before marrying Emily. You see what I mean? Ross is the one that had Rachel on his mind and mistakenly said her name, with or without intentions. Who knows
@@hanax1860 Rachel mostly does this every time Ross moves on happily. Ross said her name because he saw Rachel there at the wedding when he did not expect her to be there. He was already a bit worried that she didn’t want to come. So, when he saw her there, he must be thinking about why she decided to come after all. And I agree that it was totally Ross’ fault for saying out her name but you see, people are hating Emily for it. I just think Rachel is as much to be blamed for this situation because what the fuck was she thinking of accomplishing by going with Ross to their honeymoon after what she had done? So, can you really blame Emily for wanting Ross to stay away from Rachel if they want things ti work out between them? And I think Emily says not to see her until things got better with them and then they’ll see if it’s okay with them hanging out again. She forgave Ross, decided to leave her home country after being humiliated infront of her family and friends like that, and also saw them both going into their honeymoon. If anything at all, they did Emily very wrong. Asking Ross to get rid of all his things is not very reasonable but I can understand where she’s coming from. The hurt and the humiliation but also Ross wanting to work things out with her, not to mention she loves him too so, I don’t blame her at all. A lot of us would have done worst.

“Ross, we do not hate Emily. It’s just…..she’s never gonna be in the main cast.”
If you can’t trust your partner you shouldn’t be with them. You don’t order them to cut people they have known most of their life you should just leave them and move on that’s how I feel
Exactly.
The thing is, Emily clearly wanted things to end when she was staying away from him, and it was Ross that kept pestering her to come back to him. So of course she would have conditions based on his behavior.
A lot of people hate on Emily for setting boundaries as if she was the one who wanted to continue with the marriage.
@@victoriavaldivia515 totally agree, adding to that there is a limit of trust too, after what Ross did (twice, at the alter and at the airport) no wife or fiancé would be capable of trust
@@victoriavaldivia515 Yeah, but her conditions were awful. That's the thing. If she didn't trust him anymore that much, then she shouldn't had try to be with him not matter how much he insisted.

That Chandler cracks me up.
It wasn't saying the wrong name at the altar but seeing Ross with Rachel on airport that broke Emily's trust and I don't actually blame her.
"Because its not all laughing, happy, candy in the sky, drinking coffee at Central Perk all the time." - Most of Chandler and Monica's marriage on the show.
You know I agree with Joey, asking Ross to stop seeing Rachel is one thing but asking him to get rid of everything he has just because Rachel had touched them is a little extreme and she is basically asking him to stop seeing his sister and friends because like Joey said they are not going to stop seeing Rachel so Ross is going end up losing his friends because he is desperate to make this marriage work
Ross taught me to never get married
You can get married.... Just say the right name in the wedding
@@aruth1049 uh, there's far more too it than that with Ross. First wife was a closeted lesbian, second was mad at him for saying the wrong name, but she became far too controlling and wanting to watch him like a Hawke, and third, yes, we know, Vegas wedding, but he wanted to try and make it work, but she was straight up arrogant and toxic.

Absolutely. RIP
I honestly don't hate Emily. I think she was completely justified in asking Ross to stop being friends with Rachel because I honestly think she wouldn't have 'enforced' that demand for long. Nothing of Emily's suggested a controlling or toxic nature. She was a sweetheart who was just flailing because the chance she had taken with Ross had backfired so phenomenally (not to mention in such a humiliating manner)
Ask him to sell everything Rachel touched is toxic and controlling. And maybe ask him to stop watching Rachel alone is acceptable, but ask him to stop being friends with her and not see her even with their other friends around is, again, toxic and controlling.
Even if most of the fault is Ross for still in live with other person, say her name and go to the honeymoon with her, totally breaking the confidence; SHE decided to give him a chance when she didn't trust him, that was her mistake, and try to control his life is another one.
Both were wrong here, they were denial, none of them loved each other at that point.
She just sounded desperate and upset to me. And it wouldn’t of been so bad if Rachel didn’t live with all of the rest of his friends. She didn’t say he couldn’t see anyone else. It’s all just bad because of all the other ties. She just wasn’t a normal person for him to leave alone.
Making Ross move and sell his stuff is controlling
Her flailing doesn't make it productive or really justified to be so cold, controlling, and demanding. An ultimatum like Emily's is super destructive to a relationship. And would never help build trust with Ross again. No marriage counselor, therapist, or psychologist would tell Emily this was a good thing. Or an acceptable thing. WANTING to do it, different thing. ACTING on it, very much another.
I agree that it's totally realistic for her to want Rachel out of his life. I don't know anyone who would honestly be okay with their SO remaining best friends with a person they've f**ked multiple times. The problem with Emily is that she went too far to control his life. Her demands were unnecessary, petty and crazy.

No. The marriage had no chance after ross said rachels name. That was the point. The friends realized ross and emily were just in denial. Not to mention how rushed the whole thing was.

Emily was not wrong though. Their hate for her is just biased
Too a point. I hate Rachel don’t get me wrong, she’s a self absorbed spoiled child. Ross is a whining insecure psycho, they are both horrible and deserve each other. Emily was right to have a fresh start, new stuff new place. But to expect Ross to never see her again when she’s roommates with his sister and friends with all his friend is too far.
They were both idiots. They got married after what, like three months. They’re definitely biased in thinking it was just her. Ross was an idiot for proposing and then saying the wrong name
Yess
She is wrong if she thought getting rid of the furniture would solve the problem of her husband being in love with someone else.
Emily was wrong just like Ross. Both were denial, none of them loved each other. Emily had every right to feel like that, but she had no right to control her husband's life and decide everything only because she's the one giving him a chance. To that point it was just pure manipulation, if he didn't do what she wanted, she would leave him. Pretty toxic, even if she was the one who decided to give him a change when did not trust him.
The way Chandler looked at Monica in 3:18 🥺
Ross acted so maturely here, I really liked him... After all what he did to Emily, she can't be blamed.
She can be blamed for staying... Like the relationship just became even more toxic without Ross...

Well, she acted pretty reasonable up until Ross said Rachel. From that point on, it was doomed for the both of them.
@@BG12sofia it was doomed the minute they decided to get married after like a month
Joey is one of the best characters ever created. Period.
Emily’s Ultimatum was quite reasonable. It wasn’t just about saying Rachel’s name at the altar but Ross still had baggage with Rachel.
The reasonable thing would be just follow her life, if he still has a baggage she won't be his heart owner soon....
That's just abusive as fock
It wasn’t reasonable at all. Rachel was Ross’s sister’s best friend/roommate and she lived across the hall from Ross’s two best friends who were also good friends with Rachel. The only way for Ross to stop seeing Rachel was for him to see his sister and his friends less frequently. That’s not reasonable.
You mix up love with control. Doesn’t work like that. Not that I’m the expert though. 😅
everyone seems to forget that not only did he say Rachel’s name at the altar but was about to go on their honeymoon with Rachel the day after. Emily loves him so she wants to find a way to be with him despite the major trust issue he caused, and of course he cannot be friends with Rachel. She didn’t ask for the friends to chose sides or anything, and they don’t have to, why are they all getting involved I don’t know.
Ross is somewhat right about compromise.
Ever heard about india??
Divorce rate is less than 1 %.
In villages where i live, it is even less than 0.001 %, that to with more than 90% of marriages are arranged marriages..
Here people compromise too much, .

@@kprathamesh3564 i think india may have the opposite problem, there being such a stigma towards divorce that people stay in bad marriages, just so they don't have a divorce on their record.

Joey always kept it real and I respect that.
"Joey said 'hence'". Fantastic writing.

Thank you Joey for going to essential.
It was the best for the group, for Ross and for Emily.
If she couldn’t forgive Ross and trust him, it would never have been an happy marriage and it was better for her to be free from Ross.
And in some way, Ross telling Rachel’s name was a good thing. It shows everyone that he was still in love with Rachel and he shouldn’t have married Emily in this condition.
No one is really to blame, everyone were just handling their feelings.
I understand Emily's anger. After what Ross did, ofcourse she's gonna have trust issues. But the thing is, she should've chosen to walk away instead of making Ross do all this coz she's essentially breaking up a group of great friends.
She was obviously going insane. Torn between her love for Ross and her hatred of him for saying Rachels name.
Ross should have been the one to walk away.
Well Emily is leaving her home friends too..how come it's wrong to make him come with her...is breaking the friendship..their friendship is big but not her home and friends

she did walk away, but then Ross begged her to give the marriage a 2nd chance and said he'd do anything for her. When she named the price, Ross couldn't pay it. So it's Ross's fault tbh
When joey seems like the logical person you know something has got to be wrong with the situation
Compromise doesn't mean one person sacrifices everything while the other one gets to keep everything. Everyone has a past. And all couples have to accept their partner's past.

Actually in reality Emily should have just left Rose n end the marriage when he said Rachel's name. Instead of asking all these trying to break the groups n making her the bad guy.
She did. Ross begged her to come back. Of course Ross to do his adjustments after 1 saying the wrong name in the alter, and 2 attempt at going to their honeymoon with the woman whose he said in the alter.
