This song made my 3 hours spent in the character creation menu extremely peaceful.
??? bro there are like 5 faces. to pick from. wtf.
@@pranayravi9449
If you've already played it, I guess. I was figuring out what races and subraces there are, how to combine them, what skills I can get, thinking about how I should rp and stuff like that
And customization is not only 5 faces, so many other things, I picked up color and shape of the horns of my character like 20 minutes.
I spent a total of at least 2 hours there so i understand him
@@pranayravi9449 Yeah, only focus on how many faces there are and not all the different races, subraces, classes, subclasses and everything else you can change.
@@AnnoyingGames It takes 5 mins to read the classes and sub classes bro. its literally just picking damage, tank or healer. It takes another 10 mins to pick spells (if ur picking a caster and havnt played the EA). but 3 hours? u gotta be joking.
@@pranayravi9449 Damage, tank or healer? Dude, there are more skills than those combat related. They literally put DnD skill customization on screen and this is only the tip of it! There are people like you that only want to fly through the game but there are also gamers that like to expend and enjoy their time building their character and story.
If you create a bard, in the instrument selection menu, selecting an instrument will smoothly transition this song into that instrument
That's cool as hell, I just started the game but I'm going bard on my next playthrough just for that
Get the fuck out really? Imma try this now
@@dcsmokedown91yeah every time you select an instrument it plays that instruments part of the chorus. So the flute plays melody, violin harmony and so on. Though in my opinion the war drum isn't well tied to the song. But that's not super surprising
My first playthrough is a bard. The instant I chose an instrument and heard the Flute woven in, I got emotional. And I know this is the start of something special.
DUDE FUCK YOU NOW I HAVE TO MAKE A NEW CHARACTER XD
"Go wait at my camp."
"Ok and where is this camp?"
"DOWN DOWN DOWN BY THE RIVERRRRRRR"
This made me laugh more than it probably should have, man.
"ASK ASK ASK ME ABOUT MY WEINER"
@@EroticOnion23 eee. what?
Perfectly timed as I read this the chorus executes
@EroticOnion23 Whomp whomp🤦
Kind of smart of them to put this song in the character creation. The melody is very distinctive and most people spend a lot of time building their characters. So already this leitmotif will be ingrained in your head and remembered throughout the game.
the song actually signifies the original dream lover (your tadpole) seducing you into staying "down by the river" with her forever. So it makes even more sense for it being in character creation because the character youre creating is currently unconscious on an ilithid ship.
The song is basically "the absolute" trying to assert conrtrol over you. I imagine all the other "true souls" heard something very similar after being infected.
Sadly they reworked the story and replaced the dream lover with the guardian, so it doesnt quite fit anymore. Still awesome to think about though! Kinda ironic you mentioned that the song will ingrain itself in the players head, cause thats what its doing to the character too!
throughout the game? i was doing my work today, 10 days since i dont play BG3 because i been busy and this son was playing on my head ....
@@declancampbell1277tbh I prefer the dream lover being replaced with a dream guardian. My Warrior Cleric of Tempos is no simp.
@@declancampbell1277
I mean, I'm feeling very seduced by the guardian, so...
Yes! When I hear the chorus' notes in the soundtrack, it's incredibly hype.
This song has been stuck in my head for 3 days now. I need to find a healer.
Shadowheart❤
Like the tadpole haha
Same, I definitely need a cleric to cast Lesser Restoration on me
its nestled in my head right next to a couple tadpoles.
Was stuck in my head too, so I tried listening to another song from the soundtrack, The Power, now that ones stuck in my head too, I hum and whistle them to myself all day at work, halp.
I like how they laced it throughout the game like magic. Soft and gentle in places. Powerful like a battlecry in others with the orchestral swell.
Or like nearly everytime im sorting out my inventory I’ll just click the music box lol😊
@@flipoutz I loved the little music box. All the music in this game is so good.
In music theory those are called Motifs.
It's even used in calliope music at one point.
bro just learned about motifs
The real brain worm is this song, it's struck in my head.
And it's absolutely beautiful.
Well, this song was about the tadpole, so u are not wrong
This song is the tadpole that I wish was in my head
Might wanna get that looked it. Could be an Illithid tadpole. Just don’t trust anyone with sharp sticks lol
@LeagueofDoctors Man, I trusted a man with a pointy stick once. I got a magic item out of it! ...If you... want to look at it in a positive light.
*i see what you did there*
Can't wait to hear this song play at the Game Awards this year, when Baldur's Gate 3 wins GOTY
Edit: Ladies and gentlemen, we got em
Sadly, I dont think itll take GOTY..... it deserves it over EVERYTHING coming out this year. but i think AC6 or Starfield will take it.
@@springpanda9393 Doubtful. It's going to go for the Zelda-game, sadly. But you never know!

Lace your heart with mine
Let your sleeping soul take flight

Down down down by the river
Hanging moon in fog
Mists will lead where you belong
Sweep me off my feet
Down down down by the river
Down down down by the river
Down down down by the river
Inky embers
Swirl and dance
Just leap the flames to take a chance
To be with me tonight
Take mv hand
And hold it tight
'Cause you and I are everywhere
The night is young
We're going down down down by the river
Down down down by the river
Down down down by the river

Bruh it's a Harpy trying to hypnotize an adventurer using the power of three.
@@nicholasmarchese5017 Well then, I am Harpy food. I don't regret a thing!
@@nicholasmarchese5017I believe it was about the early access 'dream guardian' that would try to seduce your character to stay with her 'down by the river'. But in reality, it was your parasite creating a seductive character for your character to fall in love with. It was trying to trap your consciousness in your mind while it would take over your body to do its bidding
@@nicholasmarchese5017in EA instead of the guardian you had a character named Daisy who was the tadpole trying to convince you to surrender your will
Since building my character, this beautiful song has been stuck in my head. The phenomenon is called an ear worm, but this one must have crawled in through my eye socket or something.
Don't let that Tadpole get you down, use it to your advantage.

Fantastically clever comment. Cheers.
@@user-ty4vd5gg5f Literally has zero downside to go full illithid in game. Easily one of the most disappointing aspects about the game.
@@nexeos Hush, do not spoil anything please.
This song manages to evoke the exact feeling that makes me loves DnD and fantasy so much, letting your mind and heart drift away as you're transported to a world of limitless potential. Just indulging in allowing yourself to purely break from the parameters of your life for a moment and be engrossed in another reality is so mentally refreshing.
It's funny, from what I read the song supposedly is about embracing ceremorphosis.

Truly skyrim feels

This song is about Daisy - It's not a secret that Daisy was cut from the game after the last EA release and replaced with "The Guardian." Originally Daisy was representative of the tadpole in your head, not the Emperor, and would attempt to seduce your character into staying in the meadow by the river with her forever. A happy life with an imaginary dream lover while your body underwent ceramorphosis and was lost to you forever. Daisy was such an important part of the plot that both of the games theme songs "Down by The River" and "The Power" are based entirely upon Daisy. Datamined content also shows there was originally an ending where players would embrace a romance with Daisy and give themselves over to the parasite, forever leaving their individual consciousness "down by the river" with Daisy.
Interestingly enough there is datamine content suggesting two different Daisy characters that were identical in all but intent. Considering some of the EA dialogue had Daisy acknowledge the parasite and asking you to resist it, while at other times you were encouraged to use the tadpole. I think it would have been interesting to see the dynamic play with these two Daisy characters rather than just the Guardian.
#ReleaseTheDaisyCut
Yeah game's great, but I think it would have been even better if they followed up their original plan
it would have been interesting to have both the original daisy as well as the guardian, in conflict with one another, each with their own agenda and both wanting to use you.
Daisy is one of the worst fantasy names ever, but then so is Shadowheart.
This song has been stuck in my head since I started playing this game. Character creation section makes it so relaxing
Let's be honest here. You convinced me in Divinity, you'll convince me again in Baldurs Gate. The Soundtracks are a crucial part of what makes these games astonishing. Thank you for your work
Absolutely. Divinty OS 2's soundtrack blew me away. From epic tracks to ones that brought tears to my eyes. The soundtrack and also the incredible writing and voice acting makes these games the masterpieces that they are.
A privilege to listen to this mans work. He elevates these games to levels of GOAT status by sheer emotional attachment alone. Gives me the same feeling Rivellon did in DOS 2. So happy to experience these games with their music.
You said astonishing, but I read Astarioning
@@miliondigitalart1350 The meaning remains the same though!
People don't give enough credit to how much music is a part of the epic journeys of fantasy stories. The score to The Lord of the Rings is just as important as the film itself. It's the music that guides you in how you should be feeling about a particular scene. DoS 2 did this very well, and I expect Baldur's Gate 3 will be the same even though I'm only about 40 hours or so in.
"Just leave me there; dreaming"
Such a powerful line that suddenly turns something so beautiful into something so ominous. ❤
Every time I hear it I get this distinct feeling that "Leave me there; dreaming" is some kind of hint toward a potential bad end to the game. Haven't gotten there yet. Haven't even gotten 2 hours in yet lol. But that'd be interesting
To me the line reminds me of us, playing this game to escape to this beautiful dream of a game and leave reality for a little bit
I like to think the ominous thing has already happened and this is just intended to relax you as it further imbeds itself and gets to know you. I like reflecting this ominous slightly uncanny nature in the last steps of character creation. It was especially obvious in early access.
redditors actually investigated it further, and this song supposedly connects to an ending that was cut off during launch. i hope larion studios does a huge update and adds it in
@@InsertWaffle It's connected with Daisy and presumably you'd have an ending where you give in to her. This is back in EA before the Emperor there was dream sequences where you'd be in a meadow down by the river with Daisy. She'd tempt you to give in and use the parasite powers, to let yourself be consumed because Daisy was the actual parasite in your head trying to take control.
The song is her luring you in with sweet words to presumably die in your sleep, hence letting your soul take flight down by the river.
We did it boys, game of the year.
I'm so happy that BG3 is the GOTY our GOTY , what a game, well deserved LARIAN STUDIOS ! Congrats
Actually gives me goosebumps, especially at the end when you realize this song is about trying to distract from something terrible happening
Sort of like the game and real life
@@ULTRAOutdoorsmanoh god this is so true
The world is dying, calamity will strike humanity this century, but hey, fun game
@@lif6737 nah, BG3's events are just Tuesday for Faerun. Your party doesn't even go past level 12.
@@ferdinand5223 I kind of thought that would be the case but you finished the game right? The final conflict seems to be of MUCH higher stakes than a typical 12th level party would see. More like 20th
I literally sit in the character creator screen to listen, it's so good it's been stuck in my head for at least 20 hours now
*20 months
this songs already nostalgic
I love how this music feels romantic, dreamy, and magical all at the same time
If I recall this song was originally intended for the original dream visitor called "Daisy" or something like that. Instead of the Guardian (The Emperor) You'd be visited by a person created by the tadpole that was intended to seduce tav into essentially remaining in the dream, and giving into becoming a mind flayer leaving your consciousness down by the river with the "daisy" character. Its kinda weird how that piece of cut content would kinda just change what the meaning of the song is, while maintaining the same feels.
I remember loving this song in EA, but I actually stopped my character creation when I heard the words kick in. Absolutely beautiful
That literally happened to me last night. I wasn't even going to get this game until my friends got me to buy it, then I was focused on making my character in a voice call with them until my ears caught that recurring melody "down, down, down by the river" and I stopped everything for a moment like "Wait, that... this song is gorgeous!" I love how that melody is a recurring motif in other parts of the OST, too. That's great songwriting, especially for a game.
Another instant classic gamer playlist?
THEY CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT!
Man I'm sitting here waiting for the game to install. Finally released on Xbox, and i had to watch all my friends play it these last few months and now I can actually experience this greatness for myself. Wish me luck adventurers. I'll see you at Baldur's Gate

I wish I had a system that could play it. My computer's too old, sadly.
@@roukerasati9611same :(
The background effect in the beginning at 0:11 and in the end at 2:11 make this track somewhat of a magic experience. 10/10 would go down by the river again.
It gives it a very mystical vibe
This is definitely the best soundtrack for character creation! Truly masterpiece. Stuck in head for a long time

This one will age well. Thank you for sharing this with us all Borislav!
i come back to this song when i have a lot on my mind and well, in it.

@@jorvach9874 Haha!!!
The meaning of this song really changes when you realize the original intention was that the dream visitor "Daisy" seduced the player character into a romantic fantasy while in reality the illithid tadpole at their brain.
Look after 25 hours of getting used to the Combat system , the partys strengths and weaknesses and finally beating the Goblin Lords, I can understand all the praise for this game is getting, its a masterpiece. And I havent even reached Baldurs Gate yet! You can see how much love and attention went into making it. The music just adds to it.
It took you 25 hours just to beat the goblin lords? That's really disappointing dude.
@@JaceareenoThe only disappointing thing is you being a little gatekeeping shitstain. Imagine feeling superior because you played a game faster than someone else. Actually pathetic.

Masterpiece. I have my complaints, but overall, game of the decade imo.
I absolutely love this. And I love how the “down, down, down by the river” part of the melody is in so many of the other songs. It really adds to the game!
Especially when it is the tadpole telling you to just give up and give in. Cause that's what this song is about.
I started playing the game recently. Fantastic music. But this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
I'm glad they made this song a leitmotif throughout all the game. It conveys much emotion through your journey.
I was sitting in the character creation screen for hours, just vibing.
You're a legend, thank so much for music that you made! Today I'll start playing and I know that your music will give me unforgettable fellings!!
I think a certain composer will get a *BIG* boost in popolarity thanks to this game.
Congrats Mr. Slavov and thank you.

The tadpole in my head keeps replaying this song over and over
And I love it 🎧🎵🎶❤
POV: You're 20 hours into the game and wanted to change your freckle intensity by 2%
Pls don't call me out I reached act 3 and I restarted now I am currently experiencing restartitis.
That tadpole isn't the only thing stuck in my head
It's like they knew we'd spend hours in character creation, and this song on repeat is perfect to pass the time.
After I quit the character creation screen it felt wrong. Like I lost something.
It's only after listening to this song again outside the game that I realised I had developed a mild case of nostalgia for a song I had just listened to.
It's fascinating... It captures this feeling of melancholia, but also pushes you towards leaving your cherished home and going on adventures in the green meadows...
Thank you for this, it's a great piece of music that I keep coming back to
This song is stuck in my mind for days now, because I took like 4 hours to create my character with this song in the background. I love it
This is the exact moment when I fell in love with the game
Being completely new to the series, just listening to this in the character creation menu made me realise a masterpiece of a game is coming up
I like how throughout all the song there is this calm ambience, but in the end the sudden dread of the mindflayers come to light.
No surprise these compositions knock it clean out of the atmosphere with how amazingly well done they are. Even after the hours of character creation, my party and I will still hum and sing this and I want to live as we explore and adventure. Between Divinity and Baldur's Gate 3, the music has never failed to evoke emotion and grip you into the adventure. A true harpy's song, if you will. One that I will gladly fail the wisdom save for.
they have created a game, that is not gonna be matched ever, they just really created something, that is hundred times better than their competitors, this is just insane actually, usually you see a little improvements here and there, but this is just art in every way possible.
I hope everyone involved with the creation of this song is able to realize how truly special it is.
This one is staying with me for a while...

Probably my new favorite leit motif to date. It just has such an emotional range from being soft and sweet in character customization/camp to loud and powerful during the main act bosses. Its just *chefs kiss*
I thought this was going to be Neil Young. Both your soundtrack, and Starfield's, are some of the best of 2023. Going head-to-head against Inon Zur and the London Symphony is going to be some kind of wonderful. You'll both be nominated for Best Score and Music at The Game Awards in December. See you in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theater. May the best man win.
Starfield blows, beth fucked up by not having jeremy soule be the lead composer
I don't need some stupid event to tell me what's good in gaming or music.
When you get that sting of this melody after downing an enemy in combat it gives me chills.
Years from now I am going to hear this song again and I will cry for all the memories this game and your music has given me. I already cry now from the impact this music and game has had on my life. Thank you for your incredible work on this game and I am in awe of your musical genius.
I am a firm believer that music can make or break ANYTHING from movies, to games, and even life. This has only solidified my belief further that music speaks to the soul in a way that spoken words can't. Again, I applaud you and Larian for making art with a project that will continue to breathe and grow from the love and life put into it that it's seen so obviously in every aspect. I bow in adoration and respect. I am so thankful.
