  • A pretty simple repair if you just use a little bit of common sense. There are many different types and models of air dryers. Bendix typically makes the best air dryers but the local dealership has had them on back order for months and we needed one now.
Rebuild at your own peril. Many times rebuild kits don’t go together properly. This is a compressed air component and they can be finicky with rebuild kits. Then you’re out a rebuild kit and the price of a new one.

Automatic you’ll have excessive engine rpms to movement. You’ll have to rev it higher to get the same power and they’ll usually have flashing lights. The gear indicator or something on the dash flashing. Manuals are all synchromesh and you’ll hear grinding anytime the engine is running if you’ve spit a tooth. Weather or not it’s in gear or not. If it’s slipping it could be clutch. If it’s a bearing there will be a grinding or whining sound not normally as loud as when it’s spitting gears and you can feel the bearing caps on the ends of the transmission and the bad bearing will be warmer then the rest. As soon as you lose 1 tooth on any gear you have about an hour to get that truck somewhere safe. All gears spinning all the time. The only thing you shift is the synchros. Like a big shear key the synchros slide in to connect the gears to the shaft. When the synchros are getting worn down the truck will slip out of gear when you hit a bump. Like when the shifter is bucking back and forth on a bumpy road. That’s enough force to slip it out of gear when the synchros are getting too worn down. I’d recommend changing the fluid and have them take a sample of the oil. They’ll be able to tell you what type of metals and materials are in your fluid and judging the amount will tell you what’s wearing excessively. Have you adjusted your clutch recently? I know how but all the transmissions are my work are automatics so I won’t be able to make a vid on that until it warms up and I can do it to my kw for a vid. What’s your rig doing? If you have an Instagram you can DM me there so it’s more private and faster. @mikes_mischief on ig
