Dave, this was a really great video! I think the next one should be rebuilding the air compressor since it appears both of us have oil getting into our air driers. There are rebuild kits for cheap on ebay. The main cause is the piston rings are worn or because the trucks were not driven enough they become pitted. Oil gets past them and into the drier. Mine has been this way for a bit and I have a spare compressor but would love to rebuild the old one and keep it as a spare. BTW your u-joints are looking a little dry. Keep those suckers flinging grease everywhere. One of the biggest failures on LMTVS is the driveshaft "pole vault"
Grease is on its way! Well, I also have a spare compressor that I could rebuild... and I like that the kits are “cheap.” I have a bit more to do with the battery box with adding fuses and shut-offs to prevent bad things from happening. I’ll look into it further. Are the kits on eBay? Can you PM me if you have a saved link?
Thank you Dave. I’m a younger person and I just don’t learn as well through the TMs some times. And you made this video fun and attention grabbing. And I feel like someone’s actually here teaching me and walking me through it. Thank you for the help! Keep doing what you’re doing!
I am currently trying to find the parts to rebuild a compressor... I think too much oil is getting past the rings and gunking up the air dryer. That will be in a future build, if I can find the parts I need. In the mean time, eliminate that whale snot! :-D
Absolutely perfect video. This helped me tremendously on my 1979 kenworth dump truck air dryer. I really like how you explained things but didn't waist alot of time. Very well put together video. Thanks Dave
I've just taken what I have learned as a military instructor pilot and put it into practice with a different medium. I'm glad you liked it and above all, it was helpful to you. Many blessings,
Oh yeah! You saw how snotty mine was... and if you saw the filter element before I smashed it, you have a seen it totally coming apart. I was wondering what all the black rubber flakes were coming from, other than the check valve seat. Best wishes and hoping you have an easy time with it.
I could not have done it without you... literally! Thank you for your generosity at the roundup. Sean already wants me to get a kit and rebuild the compressor! LOL! I'll look into that, too.
Yep, with the o-rings lubed, the cartridge won’t stay:) when it gets cold, don’t forget to check that the heating element on the bottom warms up. You can see it pretty easy with an IR thermometer... I found some old Haldex documentation on the heater and the drawing actually showed a LED in the circuit to indicate when the heater was active. There is a lump on mine that looks like it could be an LED, but no indication that it lights, but my heater does work... I guess I got lucky and got a truck from a good pool that did pretty good maintenance. with the exception of the front brake shoes being backwards, everything I have pulled apart has been in really good shape. My dryer was no where near as nasty as yours was...:O all those air brake parts I removed for the front glad-hand delete, I disassembled and they were clean and nice inside... Nice video Dave, thanks!
Will do... I didn’t want to steal any of your thunder that you posted on your video. I have a laser no-contact temp reader. I’ll check it out. Thank you for the inspiration for the video!
Dave I have been trouble shooting the CTIS and the first thing I should looked at was air driers.. It looks as bad as yours. New parts on the way, maybe. Also choose to change the pressure sensor, look you ed.. One very good thing about your video's was You show me those linden things like the big spring.. I am ready to rebuild the air compressor.
Great to hear things are working out... I am also looking at rebuilding my air compressor. Should be fun! ...though I do not have a timeframe for the project, yet.
It was so nasty inside this air dryer... so nice to know it is all cleaned up now. The directions made it easy... filming it slowed me down X3... uh, the life of a RUclipsr.

So glad for you and the community that you are getting something from all these videos. I was happy to do it.

Thanks Dave! You dah man. You dah man.
Thanks brother. Piece of cake that looks a lot more scary than it is.
Excellent work Sr! You make things look easy.

Great video buddy very well done
Glad you enjoyed it. I was glad to get all that "snot" out of there!
Very informative how to video… thanks much
My pleasure, my friend.

Great video. Will be helpful when I rebuild mine
Always glad I could help. The kits are very reasonable.
@@HelicoolsHelipad 3 days and the kit is here..hope to hit it today
Good show, Dave. That was nasty looking phlegm from Malachai's lungs. You got it cleaned up great., though. Another fine How-To.
It almost makes me ill thinking about it. So glad it got cleaned up and serviced... I didn't even know there were worn out parts!

Excellent tutorial video. Saved me from having to read the manuals. ;)
Just doing my part... I'm glad you got your leak fixed. That had to be annoying.
Wow, that was nasty. Another thing I've been wanting to do and seeing this makes me want to do it even more now. Great video.
The kit is pretty cheap, too. And, the part is very accessible... it really was pretty easy to make it happen. Best of luck on your projects!
Excellent video! Where did you get the 1" nut to remove the purge valve? I have looked everywhere!
I had one in my parts bins. The local farm store will have one.
good morning noble friend Dave, this booger always hinders the functioning
