As you Wish sometimes I'm cooking in the kitchen with an Ajahn talk on in the other room. One day I realized how calming he was to me when the volume was too low to understood the words, but the sound of his voice still soothed me.
Ignore your tormentor/agitator and reduce or eliminate your interactions with them as much as possible. If they are physically violent then that is another matter.
A really inspiring talk at a time when I really needed it. The challenges he sets are tough as they aim to overcome our own built up barriers to change. Persistence is so important in seeing others differently, acceptance that we will meet challenging behaviours throughout our lives, and constantly letting go to prevent negativity festering in our minds. Thanks Ajahn Brahm for your amazing stories, teaching and guidance.
That entitlement mentality of those in authority, discussed around 11:00, smacks heavily of the bank bailouts of 2008. Anyways, really enjoyed this talk. Thanks for posting.
@kensei85 Yes, you are right, they are very strict with the Internet, but Buddhism is a common practise there and allowed openly. Are you aware that the first World Buddhist Forum was held in China in 2006? I am honest, I go to China. Please try to refer to the lesson taught here. There are many difficult things in China, but Buddhism is not a factor unless it is politically related. They even allow China monks to visit other countries. :)
@lyntonio The Dalai Lama has been very patient with China and willing to talk with them. China puts pressure on countries like the US to not meet with him and are unwilling to meet with him in any circumstances. The Dalai Lama recently asked the people of Tibet to work with China and respect them.
how does this compare next to his talk on abusive people and situations? the suggestion there was not to subject yourself to it. in this talk, he suggests to look at their good qualities so they come forward more. Or do you just get away?
Man this guy is youtube upload King ...an authority on every subject, lol. He may not have money or much by way of property, but I'm thinking of shaving my head, getting a robe, learning a few Sutta's and a few Mantra's and Chant's and jet set around the world giving talks to nice friendly followers who will accept what I'm saying hook line and sinker. Only kidding ...well Ajahn Brahm has a sense of humour, and so do I. Anyway, he can't be offended. .."As a Monk I am very privileged to have met some incredible beings who just don't have any ill-will atall or bad vibes ..they only give kindness"... As a former Prison Officer, I struggle to swallow that. Whilst I would say that many many offenders or so called 'bad people' are not truly bad, I have come across a few that are truly evil and would if given the opportunity do not very nice things to a nice friendly monk if left in their cell. Well, with respect, Ajahn Brahm implying that he can't be offended or hurt and we should all be the same (see approx 40:00 +/-) ...is an amazing claim. What if you were raped, beaten, tortured? or was to witness a child or elderly person, or worst still his familiy member or brother monk being abused in such a way? ...is he saying he wouldn't be phased, would stay in complete control ..have an ability never to offended or angered? Come on man!!! He may have a very high tolerance level, but I can't accept all his claims. I see a man ..a human, yes one that is nodoubt 1000 times better than me, but a man nonetheless. And no man has all the answers to life and all have a breaking point, surely not? Look on youtube and read the news and many Monks can be found that are/or have been upset, angry etc (e.g. Mynamar/Burma or Tibet and China). Modern man and his homo sapien brain has been around for around 150-200,000 years, yet in the face of violence and extremeinsult, provacation or threat or risk to life or property ..no matter what happens ..Ajahn Brahm is saying that with presence of mind he and others should not allow themselves to get upset. Pheww wow! Sorry but as much as I do enjoy some of Ajahn Brahm's talks; I keep getting a bitter sweet feeling sometimes. Maybe I've reached saturation point. I know it's his style, or rather his modum opernadi of communicating. But why does he seem to convey in such a condescending 'this is fact' manner? His slowwww slurrred quiet over empthasisssssed story telling style embroidered with humour (often when none is neccessary where a serious/important subject is being raised) would be fine if he is teaching kids in kindergarten, but surely abit of an insult to anyone but. I guess, a showman, entertainer, leader has to have the ability to engage. Do the audience (his followers) ever disagree, or challenge or debate with him over ANY point. Now take into account he sometimes appears to contradict himself if you compare a number of his talks. Example its not Metta to wish ALL sentient being to be X, Y and Z (because not everyone would wish to be X,Y,Z etc) VS Treat others like you'd like to be treated yourself. These two lines of thought are in conflict with oneanother. Anyway, no real offence intended, especially towards Ajahn Brahm or the Buddhist Religion .. Peace to all p.s. "Religious people should be the most difficult to offend"... I love that quote too +Yaiyasmin
@kensei85 My apology, my limited understanding of Buddhism was never a reference to a single person. I understand where you are coming from, but it does not mean "other types" of Buddhism does not hold the truth, does it? Why pull Buddhism into politics?
Is this Monk looking to get the Noble Peace Prize or be named Buddha of the year? .."There are no such thing as a difficult person"...(amazing quote) ...yeah ok Bhante, like there's no such thing as a dangerous shark ...just sharks with sharp teeth"... lol haha. C'mon man..
"Religious people should be the most difficult to offend"... I love that quote.
Judge no one, be happy
Forgive everyone, be happier
Love everyone, be happiest
- Hahayana wisdom
Never get tired of listening to Ajan Brahm. I attended his 50th Bday in Perth.
@Frederick Stewart 😌👌
One of my favourite pieces of Buddhist wisdom actually.
I don't talk to difficult people. I give them the silent treatment. It works all the time. Thanks for uploading this video. It was really helpful.
i was very upset with my mother when I researched this and just his presence calmed me down. There are truths in many beliefs. Love is universal.

i know of abusive parents whose children stick close to them, constantly forgiving them for their abuse, and the parents never change.
most charismatic guy in the world
43:55 is an eye opener!😌
Thank you Ajahn Brahm and BSWA for such an excellent talk🙏🙏🙏

@Harjan Sandhu You've got it!🙌
Yeah it is bloody difficult at times😔 but it can be done! As you've mentioned, persistence is vital👍.
Wonderful,practical and inspiring.Thank you!
trainee in a kitchen. the most toxic environment I've ever worked in. Needed this video.
Thank you, this is one great lesson for me.
one great important teaching I have learned. thank you Ajahn. sadhu
It depends what you mean by difficult people. If you meet the really difficult people. Run

What a beautiful pearson you are ajahn !

Meetings with Remarkable Men
Another title (which works for me and all those difficult people) : how to deal with myself! 😅😋
Simplified answer here. There is difficult people and very difficult people!
@douglaslam : I am responding to you. That means I am following this lesson about dealing with difficult, egotistic people in a patient manner. :)
How about share the last cookie x
@lyntonio

nice talk, I am not trying to be difficult but, gee, how do you get the 1 hour upload?
To Luminair11 Ajahn specifically said not to attempt to do as the lady in his example on domestic violence did. May peace be with you
@kensei85 Actually they do.
how does this compare next to his talk on abusive people and situations? the suggestion there was not to subject yourself to it. in this talk, he suggests to look at their good qualities so they come forward more. Or do you just get away?
@drav1dan have you follow this lesson? :)

@kensei85 You mean only youtube provides talks, learning the truth, Buddhism?
Be fair.
@kensei85 My apology, my limited understanding of Buddhism was never a reference to a single person.

Why pull Buddhism into politics?
@drav1dan Thank you. :)
Who disliked this video?!
The moment I hear old man advising a battered wife to put up with violence... It just doesn't sit right with me.
@lyntonio : Actually it is China that does not follow this lesson when it comes to the Dalai Lama.
These people keep talking they are not answering the question they all do it
