  • Ajahn Brahm offers a teaching not on finding the meaning of life, but putting meaning into our life; that is making our life meaningful. Ajahn Brahm tells us how to put meaning into our lives and points out that when we don’t life does become quite meaningless. Ajahn talks about developing the right attitude that gives our life purpose and meaning and what does and doesn’t give meaning.

    My story.
    I had a bad childhood, being bullied by family. I felt unwanted.
    I used to open my blinds at night, I looked at the sky, watched the stars, I asked my self, "why am I here". I was younger than 10.
    I struggled to count and spell.
    "you're thick". My father.
    I always got bad marks and bad reports throughout all my school life. I didnt get GCSE's.
    My father attacked me.
    After man years of feeling lost and alone. I was kicked out at 17.
    I did stupid things like being chased by police, selling drugs. Kicking doors in for gangsters.
    I then joined the army believing it would fix my problems. I served in 2 conflicts and watched friends and enemy die.
    I came home and tried to kill myself many of times. I met someone and had a child believing I must leave a legacy.
    My relationship fell apart.
    I met someone else later in the year, my wife now.
    She held me. She told me I was perfect and I could save myself with her help.
    Many years past and I couldn't focus. Still loosing jobs. And losing friends.
    I then found out after having a major breakdown, I had ADHD and Bipolar followed with cptsd(child and adult).
    Then I found out I carried breast cancer gene(im a man), I had a female child. I felt so bad, I then broke again and ended up in hospital.
    Im in therapy now, I have again found meditation, I found buddhism.
    I will never be rich in wealth but I will be rich in love. As hard as my mental heath will make meditation harder, I love myself and I love you all.
    Please love yourselves, my friends from service are slowly falling and I can not be one.
    Please love yourself.

    Ajahn Brahm's talks are always so easy to keep listening to until the very end. There's rarely a tendency for me to stop early and jump to something else on RUclips. And these talks are usually 1 hr long or more! He really does give a wonderful message in every talk.

    I usually ask “ what the meaning of life is “ when I’m dissatisfied and disappointed with myself with respect to life. When I’m fully engaged in the present moment, I don’t bother myself by asking what the meaning of life is. The question doesn’t even come up. The question comes up when I’m not aware of what I’m doing.

    “... put meaning into my Life !?...” I don’t know how to do that. ...... So I’ll start small. Put meaning into my day. How do I put meaning into my day? What will I accomplish today that will make me feel good about myself. What goal can I strive for. It doesn’t have to be a big goal. How about the goal to be kinder to myself ... to praise myself more ... to be critical of any mistakes I make today. Or maybe add a little joy in one’s life by doing something for them. Is this a good start?

    These monks and nuns are not allowed to have or use money. Their very existence depends on public donations, in particular food, clothing, medicine and shelter. If this wisdom benefits you, please consider making a donation, money can be given, it is held in trust by devoted members of the public whom the monks and nuns trust to look after them. Isn't that nice? :)

    Why is biological necessity a meaning? In fact, Buddhism may agree with you. So much of what people associate to be "them" could be described in such a way. So, if you take that away, what remains?

    If Buddhists claim MIND and MATTER in universe is beginingless, how can they claim they are also endless. Matter can be endless but how can you say mind be endless ?

    • @calvinriley4177
      @calvinriley4177 8 лет назад

      +umut barat
      The mind is a computer for an electrical current that uploads your conciseness through space time continuums that exist all across the universe. The reason theres no beginning is because its a a cycle so large and so meticulous, it would seem to never end but it does, back at the beginning, and thats its infinite quality that has captivated societies, religions, and cultures for ages.

    • @ebenizisiktikmi
      @ebenizisiktikmi 8 лет назад

      Calvin Riley This is a childish definition. Science tells us with the death, all brain activity including consciousness ends forever. Nothing can survive the death, including consciousness.

    • @calvinriley4177
      @calvinriley4177 8 лет назад +2

      +umut barat
      life is merely child's play, science knows very little about death let alone consciousness, yet the spirit knows it all.

    • @deathb.e.a.t.1904
      @deathb.e.a.t.1904 8 лет назад

      +umut barat Consider reading the many scientific-based studies of reincarnation, near death experiences, and children remembering past lives, all of which has been corroborated by fact. Only one who rejects it out of hand or refuses to even consider the possibility can claim this is nonsense, and goes contrary to an unbiased scientific approach, simply because it is contrary to one or more theories. Reality is stranger and more fantastic than fiction, my friend :-) Namaste.

    • @ebenizisiktikmi
      @ebenizisiktikmi 8 лет назад

      DeathB.E.A.T. Yes I read but the science common sense and rationality knows for sure that with the death of functioning brain the consciousness and whole brain activity dies and shuts down forever. so Reincarnation can not happen. Simple.

    Hmm, whatever you say, all the concepts are a part of philosophies. Concepts are just concepts not a truth. Theories, philosophies etc cannot be a Truth but andit has already been said by the Buddha himself. Buddha says his teachings are just a guide book to cross the river of sufferings. Any way, what do you mean by rebirth? I think monks do not self-claim to be enlightened! If someone claims one Budhdists understantand he is really fake. What do you mean by scientifically?

      +re98 wlk As far as AB goes...he never plans his talks ahead, so yeah, there will be some rambling and meandering. But that is part of just BEING in the present moment, and getting truth from it. I think he always gets to a place where his teaching is profound and eloquent.
