This is a public service announcement by Mr. Rossetti. He says "It's very important to read."
Season 3 Episode 9 of Boardwalk Empire "The Milkmaid's Lot"
Featuring Bobby Cannavale as Gyp Rosetti.
I OWN NONE OF THIS. BOARDWALK EMPIRE IS OWNED BY HBO.
"He's a good man your sheriff, he's gonna keep on sheriffing."
🤣
waiters gonna wait, taters gonna tate, sheriffs gonna sherriff
Now I know where his vocabularies are from, “breadsticks with a bow tie”, “yesterday’s sausages”, “Kike midget” he is an educated man.

For reference, $200 dollars is closing in on about $3000 a century later. Considering no one but other criminals got shot save for the waitress who got in the way of the assassination attempt, it was probably one of the best mutual partnerships the show saw.
$200 back in 1923 would be $3,471 today.
@@TheAnxietyCloset $3500 almost to keep my yap shut? Works for me, I didn't see shit, officer.
another way to compare it is avarage salary for uskilled labor in 1930 was 45cents an hour.....so about 444 hours worth of salary
$36,000 a year for doing nothing.
Didn't he set the old sheriff on fire?
See Gyp wasn't such a bad guy, in fact one might argue, he was a model of civic virtue. He instituted a profit sharing program for the people of Tabor Heights and he was very concerned about the towns' literacy rate. Another good man, gone too soon.
He was terrible!
He did kill an old man in the middle of the road
@@alankidd9978 Who hasn't killed an old man either with his/her thoughts or with bullets? You think that neglecting old people you pass by on the street is not harmful?

Gyp answered the question about Bible Camp as though he had given it a lot of thought, but he was just lightning fast on his feet with a curveball question.
Universal Basic Income! Gyp Rosetti was a full century ahead of his time!!!
I wouldn't call it Universal lol
UBI, because fuck it let's try magic I guess.
“First of all, thank you for coming, those of you who were curious and those of you who were escorted here”
Lol
As much as i hate Rosetti, he actually was smart enough to just bribe everybody. xD
I don’t think that’s considered a bribe, Gyp strong arm the citizens of that small town to either take the money or you’ll get what the sheriff got.
Gyp Rosetti Everybody's favorite bruttish knuckle dragging thug. Imagine if he had actually killed Nucky. That would happen been something...
@@filaphill it part of a two-sided approach; strong arm the notional form of authority, have him on display and then offer a carrot with the implication of a big fucking stick if you don't comply. also, by accepting a bribe, they effectively become complicit and are motivated to keep each other in line.
Better than Barbecuing the whole Room.
How could you hate him?
It would be awesome to watch Rossetti conduct a town hall type, Q & A session
I'd have to agree; $200/mo plus their regular pay for whatever work they do, is a real square deal. Adjusted for inflation, 200 bucks back then was the equivalent of nearly $3300 today.
“He’s gonna keep on sheriffing” 😂😂

Most people watching these clips imagine what it would be like to be one of these gangsters. Meanwhile, I'm fantasizing about getting a Double C note every month just for keeping my mouth shut.
Fuckin a
It's a "double c a piece"
In English......
@@MarkH10 $200. Which nowadays would be like getting $3095 a month.
In ny that’s called tax money. And you won’t be paying you bills with that. In modern times that is 🤣
That is about $3000 USD per month in 2017. Not bad.
when the Jews left Egypt some were pissed off because they might have been slaves in Egypt but at least they had meat....
I'm Furio, gimme dose three sousand dooollars...
@deenman23 As the old saying goes "History is written by the winners"
@deenman23 Not unless they wanted to save themselves the embarrassment from writing how the slaves won.
That saying should have weight to every single piece of history written down. There will ALWAYS be two sides to a story; yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
@deenman23 Doesn't mean the rest of the world did. Either way, if you study history, then you know.
Rosetti....."And I'm not really doing questions and answers now, dear" - still among the funniest lines ever delivered.....laugh out loud hilarious.
This is probably broadly similar to what happens in some Mexican pueblos these days when the CJNG (or whoever) rolls into town and announces the exciting job opportunities for the locals which will be created by the opening of a new meth plant within the municipal limits.
It's what happens in much of rural California as the narcotrafficantes are taking it over. Except they're the ones to get paid and their partners in the state government from Gavin Newsom on down expect higher taxes from ordinary citizens for the privilege of having drug dealers, pimps, child molesters and Satan worshippers take over the state. Gyp Rosetti was a minor league piker compared to them.
He's gonna keep on sheriffin
"......because it's very important to read."
"That reminds me Mr. Rossetti, I need that overdue book back you have by Upton Sinclair."
"I don't remember what the book was about."

$200 in 1920s would be about $2500. Just to be a little more exact.
Yeah, you're right, just looked it up on the inflation calculator and 200 in 1922 is 2900 today.
That's over 34,000(today) a year in untaxed cash. More than the average person takes home a year after taxes.
More than enough for me to look the other way. I have very flexible morals if you pay me enough.

This is one of my favorite scenes with Gyp!
200 dollars in those days is equivalent to 3500 dollars today.
In 1925 (or so) $200 was worth about #10,000 today.
Gold was $20 an ounce. A new car was $300-$500 for most models. Beer was a nickel. The average man earned about $2 a day.
In many other countries, people would work for a penny or two an hour.
keep on sheriffin' definitely top ten quotes

@talkindurinthemovie The actor who portrayed Gyp Rosetti is Bobby Cannavale. In real life he is half Italian. His mother is Cuban and his father Italian. That's why his is so tan.
@shushishane The name Cannavale itself tells you abour his Italian forebears .
Bob Cannavale and Stephen Graham are awesome mob actors. Was excited to see them in mob roles along with the legends Paccino, Pesci and De Niro in ther movie "The Irishman".
Imagine a capone and rosetti scene!!! ♥️♥️♥️ Some things are never meant to be.
Running the inflation calculator, $200 would run about $3,000 today. I'd sew my mouth shut for an additional $3k a month
Very articulate and generous for a gangster. $ 200 a piece was a lot of money back in the day. Hell even today
Random guy: "Why do you need our names and addresses?" Thug mobster in a subtle intimidating manner: "Book-keeping...we like to know who we're doing business with." That thug mobster sounded exactly like a cop.
He also put an end to the reactionary and backward bible camp program, in which many children were abused.
He probably had a traumatic experience in that camp. He shut that shit down quick 🤨😄
0:24 imagine someone corrected him by saying “My associated and I”
Lol love how they zoomed into the guy who got beat up and implied he was forced to come
"Double C a piece" 😂😂 "….he’s gonna keep on sheriff’ing" 😂

And with that, Rosseti is running the show.
Librarians keep librarying
Holy crap; getting $200 extra in a year would've been fantastic for most of these folks in those days. Getting it every month.... they hit the jackpot!
@TheIrishEnigma actually it would be in the lines of a cooperative they share profits, but still see making enough profit as the bottom line. If you could of asked Gyp what was more important money or people of Tabor Heights you know which one he would of picked. He was just paying them too keep their mouths shut and needed their address to find the people if they rat them out.
book keeping lol
Hallandale, Florida. In the 30's & 40's, Meyer Lansky ran a gambling operation there and all the townsfolk got some set fee every month.
47 years old, he was just a kid.
Back during that time $200 was worth about $2500. that is a pretty square deal if you ask me.

Everyone going "wow, good deal!"...
Yeah, that's what the name and address was for, bookkeeping. Not so the mafia knew who to visit to get their money back plus interest once their silence was useless to them.
:47 when you friend forgets to code switch
So Gyp Rosetti's crew can take over an entire town, but one Richard Harrow can obliterate Gyp Rosetti's entire crew? This doesn't add up.
Because all these towns people had lives and people worth living for. Harrow was a hardened veteran with nothing more to lose on a war-path. I'm half convinced he knew it was a suicide run and went in there well aware he probably wasn't walking out.
Most of his crew were on a run that got ambushed by Al and Chalky. He probably planned on dying there for Tommy, but the place was half empty and he came prepped.
That's what happens when people don't have guns. The criminals walk in. Harrow just happened to be a soldier with a mission.

Mr. Rosetti respected the separation of church and state.

I can just see him being president. I mean, here is Gyp Rosetti's likely campaign platform:
-Universal basic income
-Bringing business to local communities
-Supporting public libraries and education
-Doesn't take shit from the evangelicals
-Strong armed forces
-Respects the role of sheriffs and police, and isn't a fan of the FBI
