And Matt Freeman is one of the most under rated bass players in rock and definitely the most talented bass player to end up playing punk rock. I love punk and Matt's almost too talented for the style.
The song is about a musician who is always touring and constantly leaving for some random city and leaving his girl behind ("destination unknown"), and the constant separation is killing the feeling they had, and she feels that the music has been put before her, while HE feels like she doesn't understand what his life is like. So she (Ruby Soho) feels like he is just letting her fade away, and by the end of the song, she accepts what seems like the inevitable and finally decides it's time to peace out. Great classic punk song.
@@TheMongooliShow if you look at the writing credits Matt Freeman also helped write that song. But yeah it's about the lose because of touring and soho is an area in new york they call soho street so he left her behind in soho new york.
Matt is amazing for Punk, I'm not sure I'd put him up with the technical wizards like Vic Wooten and Les Claypool, not sure he could play their chops but what he adds to Rancid is pure gold. He really makes them more than just another punk/ska band with his dynamic walking bass lines.
Rancid is a great 90's band, one of my favorites. I was surprised to see you guys react to them, though. But either way, I'd like to see you react to more of their stuff & to more punk bands.
There’s a Pro Wrestler in AEW who goes by Ruby Soho because the member of Rancid who wrote the song is a wrestling fan and gave her the name and song for her entrance. she used to be known as Ruby Riott in WWE and when she was let go from that promotion she needed to get a new name. Very cute video of the moment here ruclips.net/video/zQ1kxuZWr6k/видео.html Edited to corect the person who cleared the name for her
lars isn't the lead singer. he sings lead on some songs but the primary singer in rancid is tim. tim is singing lead on ruby soho and lars is the primary voice on the chorus.
@143 Speedball did you watch the video I linked because it literaly happens in that video of a vlog. I apologise that I got the members of Rancid mixed up but it did happen
Rancid has been one of my favorite bands ever !.. three guys singing in different way, all hursh voices !.. check Hooligans, Fall Back Down or Radio 📻 song 🎵 !..
He was the guitarist and back up vocal for the best band of the 80’s. Operation Ivy. The same, amazing bass player! Please check out Op Ivy! Amazing lyrics for a bunch of teenagers! Common Rider - Classics of Love
Wife here..Yes..Brad very interesting voice..And Yes Lex..Punch!!..Puts me in the mind of the British Punk sound..(Billy Idol)..(The Clash)..Thanks again for your awesome insight!
My absolute favorite Rancid song. My cousin had a Tim-esque mohawk back in the 90s, and he grew up in Missouri. I remember visiting the Gateway Arch and people kept stopping us, asking to take his picture. Sadly, he wasn’t allowed to wear it to his mom’s wedding. At least I was able to wear my Doc Marten’s with a baby doll dress. 😂
I saw Rancid in 96 at Lollapolloza at the Dragstrip in Rockingham NC. Middle of July on 100 acres of asphalt, The heat was unreal. There was no way for the bands to meet with the fans so the guys from Rancid walked about 500 feet thru the briars to a spot where they could sign autographs thru the chain link fence. I will always remember that.
Rancid ranks in the best top 10 concerts I've ever been to....and I've been to a lot of concerts over the years. And Out Come the Wolves was my favorite tour and one of the best pits I've ever been in....and the "Tim jump" is just epic....y'all Rancid fans know what I'm talking about \m/
...And Out Came The Wolves came out in 1995, I think; almost thirty years ago and I still listen to it almost every day! You should check out “Avenues and Alleyways” from the same album. It’s the best song on it in my opinion. I think you’ll appreciate the message.
Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman both came from the iconic late 80s ska/punk band "Operation Ivy" Just about every song on their self-titled compilation with the ska man cover is outstanding. I wore that f-cker out.
That voice is all 70s punk, btw. Style of singing. They wanted to sound like a regular dude singing and generally bands that weren't virtuosic musically. They wanted to sound like a dirty, piss-smelling hole in the wall club (or cluh).
One of the band members produced music by reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, and this was one of the songs. Never really got into this band, but this song is killer.
You should probably clarify that Rancid’s version is not a cover of one of Mr Cliff’s songs. Since ….And Out Comes The Wolves came out in 95, and Rebirth was released in 2012. Can’t believe it’s been that long. I loved both the ep and the album. Actually saw him for the first time on that tour. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen.
@@downwardisheavenward3006 Yes! It's a Rancid song and Mr. Cliff covered it when he was being produced by Tim Armstrong from that band. Also did a great version of the Bob Dylan song A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall, and Guns Of Brixton by The Clash. My favorite originals are One More and Ship Is Sailing.
Do "Roots Radicals". It's their staple and a classic. I've seen Rancid twice and it's always a treat when they play Roots Radicals. Tim sings most of Ruby Soho and he's the guy with the interesting voice. It's very raw and unrefined. Lars is backup on the chorus and he's got a raw voice but hits the actual notes with more precision than Tim. Lars is the better singer. They kinda tag team on vocals for Roots Radicals. "...And Out Come the Wolves" is one of my all time favorite punk records.
You guys recently reviewed Operation Ivy..... This is the band with half those members continuing after the breakup and picking up some awesome members to form one of the greatest punk bands of the 90's that are still doing it today
Rancid have such a contrasting name and image to their sound. A lot of people see them and the word "Rancid" and expect some pretty rough music but they're basically pop-punk and bloody good at it. In my opinion every album they've released is excellent.
Glad ya'll checked out Rancid, very fun band, if very dark at times. I would reccomend you give Hoover Street a listen, also Rancid. Now for the main topic, Link Wray, Iwas hoping yall could do Rumble by Link Wray. He is the godfather of pretty much all moderrn heavy and fast music, and Rumble was the start to it all. Any one else interested in Link Wray and Rumble?
You guys need to check out Operation Ivy. It’s where the bass player and guitarist (the two dudes singing) come from. they pretty much invented Ska Punk.
I got you Mike. On there stream I asked them to do Rancid and Operation Ivy. They picked a different Rancid song then I asked for but they should be putting out Unity by Operation Ivy soon.
This is Tim Armstrong singing , and the chorus is Lars Fredericksen and the bass Player Matt Freeman. Rancid are my favorite band . You have got to check more !.. and this is street punk. About every situation in the street . That is about. He is from California but this is a London crazy situation in a kind of motel room

Tim's voice is the result of a speech impediment and a lifetime of drugs lmao. He talks the same way in interviews. Fun fact: he plays a villain in an episode of the X Files.
Tim’s voice is so distinctive you know it’s them instantly. That voice actually has a story related to the origins of band. Tim and Matt (bass) were in a rather seminal punk band Operation Ivy that maybe were on the track to break out, but they split up. Tim struggled heavily with substance use after this, and it is said he had a seizure or OD and was left with something of speech impediment. Matt (best friend since age 5), said you get sober for 1 full year and I’ll start a new band with you. So he got clean and Rancid was formed
I have no idea what this song is about but it was on the "alternative rock" station all the time in mid-90's when I was also starting a whole new life so it was kind of an anthem for going into the unknown.

London punks created the "snotty" sound. You'll finds versions of that vocal style in lots of punk songs.
It’s about that girl name Lex who is figuring out that she really digs punk rock. Love watching you light up to these songs.
The new show is gonna be called The Andrew & Lex Show. Were gonna smile and have fun
THIS is the song that got me into punk. Tim's voice is absolutely unmistakeable, as well as Lars and definitely Matt. Just a great punk band.
