After this song was originally realsed Bass player Jason matthew thirsk killed himself. Bro Hymn", was originally written by Thirsk as a tribute to three of his friends: Tim Colvin, Carlos Canton, who died in a motorcycle accident, and Tom Nichols, who drowned at Hermosa Beach Pier in 1988. The band re-recorded the song after his death as a tribute to their fallen bandmate, replacing the line "Canton, Colvin, Nichols, this one's for you" with "Jason Matthew Thirsk, this one's for you" becoming a punk rock Anthem and is amazing Live.
Brad was 100% right it was about the loss of friends. This song is crazy when it is played in a large crowd because everyone sings along and the energy just grows.
they dedicated this song to my friend that passed away in 07'. Such an awesome group of guys that heard about my buddy dying and us playing this at his funeral. They brought his brother on stage and played this song for his little brother. I have nothing but the utmost respect for this band.
Just makes me think of how great Brad and Lex are. I have heard of Pennywise but never actually heard this band. Pretty cool they show music to us who truely don't know some of the songs! Although i am a metal head so i have heard like 95% but once in a while i get shocked.
This must be seen live to appreciate its passion and beauty. The crowd would storm the stage and sings along. Me and thousands of others have literally been on stage with pennywise singing this song.
if you lose a friend and you both liked pennywise, this is the song. Live performances stir up an ocean of emotions from the crowd. We all have fallen friends.
I've had the pleasure to see this live many times and it's insane. The buzz, the energy it's insane. One show the crowd kept singing as the whole crowd excited the venue. I will never forget that
one of the best live experiences ever, remember singing along with them at a festival and we all just kept singing long after they left the stage while we all walked back our tents... I ditched Red Hot Chilli Peppers to watch them and it was definitely the right choice, such a great band
Agreed man! When I got to see them I just got to the front row and fuck authority started! I was very bruised up after the show, but would do it again in a heartbeat. They just give off so much energy live.
Had a good old skating buddy that I knew since 2006 as a Junior in HS. He hung himself last Tuesday. This song is still on his MySpace profile too. It’s an awesome theme for anyone who lost their closest friend(s) in life.
When the Ducks hockey team scores a goal and the Angels baseball team hits a homerun they play this song at their home stadiums. Pennywise is from Orange County CA.
I have had the privilege of seeing this performed live on several occasions. With the whole crowd chanting on the hook, it's always an intense experience.
Wow , im absolutely glad and surprised you are reacting to this song. So much that I’m writing this before even watching the video. You got me actually commenting for the first time lol . Let’s get into it \w/
Jason Matthew Thirsk (December 25, 1967 - July 29, 1996) was the bass player of the California punk rock band Pennywise from 1988 through his death in 1996.
This song is quintessential Pennywise. They have great hearts and music. They remember JMT at every show. JMT actually wrote this song for his lost friends
To really get the feel of this song and the connection with the fans you need to watch a live version. You'll know when the "Whoa" from the crowd hits.
Singing this song while moshing arm in arm with your best homies is such a vibe. A friend of mine in college is from the same town as this band (Hermosa Beach, CA) and we’d road trip down there for 4th of July to watch them play a concert on the front porch of a house that faced out into a cul de sac. The entire cul de sac would be full of people just having the best time. Such good memories!
Half the NHL uses the “woah” part of this song as their goal celebration song. I know all of the California teams do. He says Brett. Brett is the guy who put this out. He plays guitar in bad religion.
I know the Anaheim Angels use Bro Hymn for home runs and the AnaheimDucks use it for goals. Pennywise like so many so cal punk rock bands was either born in or adopted by Orange County, CA. We love that stuff!! 🤙🏻
Pennywise was one of my first shows, they played with the Skatenigs at a small club in San Antonio TX. I was just a little skate punk back then, and my has the world changed in the last 20+ years.
I saw Pennywise at winterXgames back in the day. It was great. This song hits harder now for me because two of the people I was with at the concert have died since.
to this day, they still play this as the last song of their set. and the crowd goes nuts and forms a huge pit. every. fucking. time. I've been in 2 of them, and I've witnessed 3 others, and holy shit, those were great pits.
Fun fact, since 2005 the Anaheim Ducks play this song after every goal. And since 2017 (I think) the Los Angeles Angels play the song after every homerun. Even though Pennywise is from LA, this song is kind of an anthem in Orange County and Anaheim especially.
Finally got to see these dudes a cupple of years ago here in Auckland Aotearoa new zealand took my mate who was a massive fan of PENNYWISE and dying of lung cancer 9 days later he died he used every bit of energy he could muster and staunched it out and was happy for an hourish almost forgot it was going to be his last gig smiling and happy AND THAT'S HOW I WANT TO REMEMBER DENNIS my BRO
Wow, that made me tear up. I absolutely love this story. So glad your buddy made it to the show. Rest in peace to your bro and God bless you for being there with him. Your story is an example of what it's all about. Thanks for sharing 👍
I saw Pennywise when I was 18 and it was ether their 25 anniversary tour and they played this song at the end and I was able to be up there singing with a bunch of other people who hopped on stage. Literally one of the best shows I’ve ever seen plus millions of dead cops was there too so extra bonus 🔥
HOLY SHIT..... PENNYWISE!!!!! Man thus brings me back to my skater days of halfpipes, street style, punk music, weed and not give a fk about anything except thrashin' and surfin'..... Hell Yeah!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘😎🤘
Fantastic song. Pennywise is a favorite when it comes to punk. I usually go for the live version of this. It’s better in my opinion. If you do more pennywise I highly recommend “fuck authority” or “let us hear your voice”
oh the memories of days gone bye brought back and hearing this song again lol... Good stuff guys as usual, keep up the discovering of music now and then ✌🙏✊👊😎
The thing for me with Pennywise is that some of their lyrics are so deep. Even if the music seems very simple at first. Like "What if I", "My own way" or "Badge of pride". And more.
As devided as our society is these days, it makes me genuinely happy when black folks enjoy the music I grew up with. We all need to share more the things that make us happy rather than dwelling on what separates us.
If you go to a pennywise show, the crowd start singing the “chant” portion of this in line to get in and don’t stop till the show is over, it’s pretty rad imho
They end every show with this. I'm 46 and my brother is 45. I introduced him to this band and for a good 19yrs he went to every show. My brother is a square
Right on point brother. 🤙
Thank you for saying this important part of the song
Brad was 100% right it was about the loss of friends. This song is crazy when it is played in a large crowd because everyone sings along and the energy just grows.
I saw this in 97 when bassist jason thirsk just had killed himself....
I saw this love and I completely agree it's so cool being in a big crowd with everyone singing along
For the fallen.
Played this many times live. There's nothing like every person in the crowd chanting.
they dedicated this song to my friend that passed away in 07'. Such an awesome group of guys that heard about my buddy dying and us playing this at his funeral. They brought his brother on stage and played this song for his little brother. I have nothing but the utmost respect for this band.
@@thesaint9276 sorry about the passing of your friend. They are a good group of guys and it is awesome they were able to do that for you and the boys.
NHL hockey teams use the song as a goal song which is played after every goal scored at home.
This is THE punk anthem of the 90’s and one of the best songs you could ever see live.
One of Pennywise's staple songs...really brings me back, both to the 90s and to a few weeks ago when I was rockin' this album!
Cool!
I'd say alien is the big one this in second I use to love pennywise back in the day.
Just makes me think of how great Brad and Lex are. I have heard of Pennywise but never actually heard this band. Pretty cool they show music to us who truely don't know some of the songs! Although i am a metal head so i have heard like 95% but once in a while i get shocked.
version on full circle is so much better than this version
I Worked at 96 warp tour...pennywise, nofx, def tones, back to back to back. I'd kill to to back in time.
This is a classic punk tune! Love the variety lately guys.
Best 90s punk. Love Pennywise.
This must be seen live to appreciate its passion and beauty. The crowd would storm the stage and sings along. Me and thousands of others have literally been on stage with pennywise singing this song.
Any song by pennywise period!
if you lose a friend and you both liked pennywise, this is the song. Live performances stir up an ocean of emotions from the crowd. We all have fallen friends.
I've had the pleasure to see this live many times and it's insane. The buzz, the energy it's insane. One show the crowd kept singing as the whole crowd excited the venue. I will never forget that
Lex said, “like a football game in the UK.” You’re good in my book 🤜🏽🤛🏽⚽️❤️🔥
one of the best live experiences ever, remember singing along with them at a festival and we all just kept singing long after they left the stage while we all walked back our tents... I ditched Red Hot Chilli Peppers to watch them and it was definitely the right choice, such a great band
Agreed man! When I got to see them I just got to the front row and fuck authority started! I was very bruised up after the show, but would do it again in a heartbeat. They just give off so much energy live.
Tough choice. They're both great bands. For very different reasons.
This is a tribute to people passed away, listen to the songs My Own Country , Fight Until You Die , Society, Greed or Straight Ahead
Wooooooooooo
Bestest song.
Had a good old skating buddy that I knew since 2006 as a Junior in HS. He hung himself last Tuesday. This song is still on his MySpace profile too. It’s an awesome theme for anyone who lost their closest friend(s) in life.
I have been fortunate enough to have been on stage singing this epic song with them. Greatest moment of my Punk Rock life.
me too man, i whoa ohhhed with pennywise and one time i whoa ohhhed with the misfits on stage. soooo much alcohol.
"If I die you die..." definitely makes it a tribute to brotherhood!
FUCK YEAH!!! You two rock!
Never thought I would see a punk reaction on this channel. I've gained a newfound respect for you guys. Cheers! 🍻
Great song. The lalala part is often used in football (real football) stadiums in The Netherlands when a goal is scored.
Definitely a song that I used to get pumped up on before going surfing!
One of the best lines. "To all my friends, present, past, and beyond. Life is the most shortest thing that you can lose
Listen to FUCK AUTHORITY
ALIEN
LET THEM HEAR YOUR VOICE
AND MY GOD
ALL PENNYWISE BANGERS
Wow! This a throwback. I dont think ive heard this since the 90s.
Wow did not expect you two to review this, one of my favorites from my teenage days in the late 90’s. Great review,
When the Ducks hockey team scores a goal and the Angels baseball team hits a homerun they play this song at their home stadiums. Pennywise is from Orange County CA.
this song makes me think of san diego/ orange county. Padres, Chargers, Ducks and Angels all used this song after scoring and or winning.
The Flyers use to have this as their goal song too.
The Angels played this when Mike Trout hit Home Runs
I have had the privilege of seeing this performed live on several occasions. With the whole crowd chanting on the hook, it's always an intense experience.
Getting into the 90s skate punk era 🔥🔥🔥 This is one of the greats
Wow , im absolutely glad and surprised you are reacting to this song. So much that I’m writing this before even watching the video.
You got me actually commenting for the first time lol . Let’s get into it \w/
Lol they do be playing this all the time at sports events. WOOOAHHHH OHHH OHH OHHH WOAHHHHHH OHHH AHHH OHHH
Jason Matthew Thirsk (December 25, 1967 - July 29, 1996) was the bass player of the California punk rock band Pennywise from 1988 through his death in 1996.
They play this song last at EVERY show. It's a tradition and the crowd goes NUTS!
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. No other song does that. I couldn't name another Pennywise song, but this song is a masterpiece.
This song is quintessential Pennywise. They have great hearts and music. They remember JMT at every show. JMT actually wrote this song for his lost friends

This is the official goal song of the mighty ducks of Anaheim
Half the NHL uses the “woah” part of this song as their goal celebration song. I know all of the California teams do. He says Brett. Brett is the guy who put this out. He plays guitar in bad religion.
I know the Anaheim Angels use Bro Hymn for home runs and the AnaheimDucks use it for goals. Pennywise like so many so cal punk rock bands was either born in or adopted by Orange County, CA. We love that stuff!! 🤙🏻
Totally just made my day.
Pennywise was one of my first shows, they played with the Skatenigs at a small club in San Antonio TX. I was just a little skate punk back then, and my has the world changed in the last 20+ years.

HELL TO THE YEAH BROTHA!!!
Every time they had a gig this is always on their playlist..
I saw Pennywise at winterXgames back in the day. It was great. This song hits harder now for me because two of the people I was with at the concert have died since.
That’s the bro chant
They close every show with this song
This hole album is one banger after another.
Great choice!!!! 💜💜💜
to this day, they still play this as the last song of their set. and the crowd goes nuts and forms a huge pit. every. fucking. time. I've been in 2 of them, and I've witnessed 3 others, and holy shit, those were great pits.

You mean the Anaheim Angels?
That rocks. Hometown so cal punk staying true
One of the greatest riffs of all time!!!

Wow wtg punk rock anthem of all time
this has always been the song for all my brothers. any local band will jam this out and we all feel it
seen them in concert so many times
They did a later version of this track when they their band mate, Jason Thirsk passed away. Its on their album, Full Circle. It’s dope as well.
Brad knew right away, because he's part of the brotherhood. cheers!
Great band!
Definitely check out the live version, like even if you're not going to react to it. The energy is off the wall.
The bass riffs are awesome in the live versions
oh the memories of days gone bye brought back and hearing this song again lol... Good stuff guys as usual, keep up the discovering of music now and then ✌🙏✊👊😎
I'm going to see Pennywise in Sacramento this Saturday! I hope I hear this one!
You definitely will dude! And if this is your first pennywise show, have fun because it's one hell of a time!
They close every concert with this song but the name will be JASON MATTHEW THIRSK it was changed to his name after he died
They play it at Ducks hockey games after they score a goal.
will always remember when they played that song , and invited the crowd to come on stage with them , it was crazy awesome
An absolute punk anthem…🤙🤙🤙
his voice sounds so much like Jim Carroll. "The People Who Died!" self explanatory!
Loving that you guys are checking out these great classic skatepunk songs! More More More!! 🙂
My husband has recently become obsessed with this song. He’s a big soccer fan. Self explanatory.
Their shows are so good. Best circle pits for sure!
A classic skate punk song!
I had that chant in my head for close to 20 years, forgetting where it was from. So glad I watched this video. 🙂✌️
A live version of this song would've been better. Really captures the songs energy
This definitely makes me want to listen to those old Pennywise albums again.
Their song "Alien" is their best song.
This song has a so much meaning for me. Pennywise is definitely one of the best
I just picture, Jncos 🤦🏼♂️ Damn I miss the 90s lol
love how the riff starts as bass, then goes bass/guitar then bass/guitar/singing
Played every time the Anaheim Ducks scores a goal!!
I get shivers every time I hear that song.
She popped for the "woahs" 🤣
The thing for me with Pennywise is that some of their lyrics are so deep. Even if the music seems very simple at first. Like "What if I", "My own way" or "Badge of pride". And more.
As devided as our society is these days, it makes me genuinely happy when black folks enjoy the music I grew up with. We all need to share more the things that make us happy rather than dwelling on what separates us.
Since I first started listening to punk, I've always seen it as a unifying force. All of us together.
If you go to a pennywise show, the crowd start singing the “chant” portion of this in line to get in and don’t stop till the show is over, it’s pretty rad imho
To this day, the best LIVE song experience I've ever had....
They end every show with this. I'm 46 and my brother is 45. I introduced him to this band and for a good 19yrs he went to every show. My brother is a square
Punk rock ✌️
One word... Punk
Love Pennywise. One of my favorite punk bands. You should check out NOFX song "Linolium". Another great punk band.
This song gives me chills every time I hear it, it's wild
NOFX "Bob"
DAMN!!! My High school days in California!!! PW was dope!
This song here is one of the greatest punk songs of all time. It was so great and emotional the band did it twice.
