- This is our cover of Pink Floyd's masterpiece, "Comfortably Numb." We are performing here at Hawkins Amphitheather at Bartley Ranch - Reno, NV.
The Novelists:
Joel Ackerson - vocals, guitar

How does this not have millions of views
I’ll get ripped for saying this, because I’ve seen the comments about harmonies and musicality from all of them....this is great,..9/10....but honestly feel if Joel had taken the vocals totally on his own, and was allowed to own that song by himself,....12/10.
I started this video and saw some of the complaints in the comments and thought I might turn it off a minute or two into it, but this is actually a really great and different take on the song. I don't think this version needs Gilmour's guitar solos, that's what the original is for. Anyway, great singing and playing here. I love the combination of voices.

I always thought David Gilmour's guitar solos were the keynote of, well, any Floyd song. I can't believe how wrong I was. This is beautiful, and the piano and the harmonizing makes it a lovely interpretation. Being a pianist, I love seeing rock guitar solos tastefully covered, and even though the effect is very different, it's absolutely brilliant
We really appreciate this. So many were furious at us for not re-creating the exact same solo (my favorite guitar solo of all time). Thank you for catching that the difference was intentional.

I remember the first time I heard you guys perform this song live, and was completely blown away. I'm a Pink Floyd fan from WAY back, and VERY picky about anyone covering one of their songs, but this was absolutely brilliant.
Love everything about it. That girl voice makes it so interesting together with main vocalist. Piano solo instead of guitar one so original. Love it. Hope you gonna get succesfull cuz you guys deserve it. ;) Peace

I think the piano solo worked -- I know the electric guitar solo is iconic, but I'm a fan of innovation and unorthodoxy - it worked for me. The only thing I didn't like was the smiling of the vocalists in spots. This is a song about tragedy, medicating sorrow, and unfulfilled dreams. Vocalists need to look full of anguish when they sing it. I concur with two guitars playing essentially the same strumming pattern. Given how orchestral this song is, I would suggest using the different registers of the guitar to fill out the sound spectrum...
