I'm so happy you loved the drums on this. They were played by Martin Kearns, who tragically passed in 2015. I played with him in a pre Bolt Thrower band (he joined in 1994) and he was genuinely a nice bloke. Last time I saw him he said he had bought a bass to learn that.
I said "is it because it has 4 strings and not 6 so you thought it would be a third easier?"
    He said "Yep!"
I replied "I doesn't work like that though, does it?"
He said "nope" and we both started laughing.
He would have been so happy a channel the size of yours dug his groove.
    RIP Kiddie.

Bolt Thrower is one of my favorite death metal bands. Their later material is a lot like this. Solid, midtempo, groovy, riff heavy, crisp, tank metal that just methodically crushes. The production is immaculate. Colin Richardson is surgically bright and precise in his production style, opting for crystal clarity and percussive oblivion.
The band writes a lot about war. Sometimes introspective, sometimes like a field manual or textbook.
Death metal is a spectrum. On one end you have muddy sloppy gore like Cannibal Corpse and the other end is this.
My favorite song is Cenotaph. Riff monster. The vocals are always deep, harsh, and buried just enough to provide rhythm and texture without distraction.
I'm so happy yall found this band.

Bolt Thrower's bassist is a woman - Jo Bench, one of the first females to play extreme/ death metal.
Martin Kearns (drums) was the drummer on this record in 2005 - he passed away in 2015... Bolt Thrower ended right after in 2016.
Hailing from the UK, Bolt Thrower made extreme metal based on themes of war... their 1989 album 'Realm of Chaos' was a landmark record in the death metal genre, alongside extreme metal bands from the UK, like Napalm Death, Carcass... Bolt Thrower consisted of Karl Willetts (vocals), Gavin Ward & Barry 'Baz' Thomson (guitars), Jo Bench (bass)... Andy Whale (drums) was an early member. Willets left the band around 1995, as did Whale... Martin Kearns (drums) played w/ Bolt Thrower at the time... The band carried on recording past 2000, before Karl Willetts (vocals) rejoined Bolt Thrower for this 2005 album 'Those once loyal'... it would be their last record. They felt that record was a creative peak, and decided not to record another album.
Drummer Martin 'Kiddie' Kearns died unexpectedly at age 38 in 2015, and Bolt Thrower ended in 2016 after refusing to replace him.

Love Bolt Thrower! Something I didn't see mentioned was that fade in intro to this song, that's the "Bolt Thrower riff" that first started from the end of their song "World Eater" on the Realm of Chaos album. They have a song on each album (except ...For Victory I believe) that starts and/or ends with that same riff...
    World Eater (Realm of Chaos)
    Cenotaph (War Master)
    Embers (IVth Crusade)
    Powder Burns (Mercenary)
    The Killchain (Those Once Loyal)
They wanted to do a long medley of these songs eventually one day but never got around to it before their drummer Martin Kearns passed away.
If I could recommend "When Cannons Fade" should you guys come back to BT. It's a fitting end to their discography with that final drum outro being the last thing we hear from Martin.

Bolt Thrower! Hell yeah! One of the best of the best death metal bands.
That RIFFFFFF! This is my kinda death metal and, to a degree it's hard to say what separates em, but I can't help but love these guys more than a lotta other bands in the genre.
Sometimes that's just the case but with Bolt Thrower that groove is a big part of what makes it work.

Please, please, please!!!! When Cannons Fade next. The perfect ending track to one of the most consistent and crushing discographies! I'd also propose basically any song off of the IVth Crusade, which is probably the best mid tempo Death Metal album ever produced, in my opinion. From that album though, I think Icon and Embers are particular standouts.

Bolt Thrower is about as no frills and rock solid as death metal comes, so it's rad that your metal journey has led you to being open to even this kinda stuff. This whole album is full of midtempo bangers.

Bolt Thrower is a different kind of a death metal band. It's one that metalheads that listen to nothing else but Manowar and Judas Priest will love and play on repeat (judging by people who I know). I think that it is because they are so groovy/rhythm based but also sorta melodic, and while the vocal is so strong/heavy but you can understand him and how he fits with the music, add the solos and it makes for a unique experience. Love them since the first time I've heard them and are on constant rotation at home since 1996. Their last album (from which comes this track) is their masterpiece, bar none. I cannot point to a weak song here, whereas their other albums there's always this one track that sounds sorta like a filler.
You really need to dig a bit more into these "less popular" bands (in quotations cause BT are well known name where I am coming from), there are some amazing gems and it will be a trip for you and people that listen to you but had never experienced said bands (here I can dump a bunch of names, but I'm sure you have plenty on your plate already. I really only hope for Coroner, that's it).

Killchain, Spearhead, Cenotaph, World Eater, this is what Bolt Thrower does. They are the bulldozer of death metal, relentless and crushing. Best band ever and the only band I’ve ever experienced that has no weak songs, let alone no weak albums. Flawless.

Great band and going by everything I've ever heard of them: Really great people. There's this great interview with Rotting Christ where they're asked what their favorite band to ever have toured with was and they start by saying they don't really rate all the bands and so many of them have been great. Then they still decide to just name drop Bolt Thrower as the one they could say stood out from the rest as the best band they've toured with. Rotting Christ also seem super chill so them giving that credit to Bolt Thrower just warmed my heart :) Good reaction, glad you liked them!

For Victory and IVth Crusade are their highlight albums for me, but they are all good solid mid paced death metal (except the first, as you mentioned, was grind).
