I grew up hearing this exciting song all over the air waves, at a time when surfing was the athletic pursuit of highest honor for the youth. Love his original version!!🏄♂️🏄♀️
Been hearing this for a long time and still beeg fun. Mahalo! It is not widely known that Led plays standard tuning masterfully as well as slack key open tuning. In 1999 I was with him when he played a bunch of vamps for a group of 25 slack key workshop students on Maui. He played vamps one after another for ten minutes or so, never repeating one, no two alike. He could have kept it up for a half hour, I’m sure. After he’d stopped and the uproarious applause faded, one of the spellbound group asked, “What tuning was that Led?” “Standard,” he replied matter-of-factly. The astonished group were stunned into surprised silence. None of us had any idea. It was impossible to hear any difference from his best skack key playing. Now, THAT is unequalled guitar mastery!
I actually really like the "Pipeline" intro into Riders in the Sky -- I have used this for years... you make it sound really fantastic -- it just flows so well together Thanks
So talented and so much fun! And I bet only Hawai'i guys or those with Hawai'i ties in the audience would get the "pee-pee-lee-nee" reference to the name of the song. I could hear you? chuckling when he said it.
Hi Jody, yes that was me. I always try to stay as quiet as possible when I film, but with Led it's hard not to just bust out a laugh from time to time. I thought is was neat how at different times people caught onto the joke at the beginning of the song. You could hear murmurs and chuckles going through the crowd as the joke caught on. Thanks for watching. A hui hou!

Led is bilingual. His native tongue is music.
Wow. What a great story!! That’s insane!! What a master
Sounds like many instruments at once. Wow, so gorgeous.
It's fitting that Ledward covers "Pipeline", seeing as the tune was named after a surf reef break in his native Hawaii.

I thought this guy only played Hawaiian music. Well, he is really good at other kinds of music too. Even better than Keola Beamer. That's a feat.
😀😀😀👍👏
LOL Pe-pa-le-niOutstanding!
MAHALO!!!
Hawaiian Venture,,,,
Sounds like Red Dead Redemption lol
...also i like how he kinda looks like johnny cash!
I did not get, what was so funny about this interpretation-why the audience is laughing so much?
+Sunshine If you pronouce Pipeline as if it were a Hawaiian word it would be pe-pa-le-ni
markwitz Fun video. In Hawai’i it is closer to pee-pay-lee-nay, but what the hey. It’s just fun. Thanks.
