    Y’all are one of the most progressive fire departments in the nation I’ve seen. The department’s dedication to firefighter health and wellness is incredibly impressive, cutting-edge and top of the line apparatus and equipment. With all the Fleet Fridays and Station Tours you can really tell that everyone is incredibly professional and well trained but also very high moral and pride in their department and job.

    Hey Connor and Eric thanks for this fleet friday, always been curious about Med 1. If I could make one suggestion though: could you please make the new intro of these videos a bit quieter? I wear headphones and almost fell out of my chair when it started at 0:05 because it's much louder than the person talking.

    When I was working for AMR in Seattle I worked real close with the MSO, especially when I became a LT. Not sure if South Metro does this, but it was interesting the interaction between SFD and AMR since AMR did all the transports. On an MCI, the IC would hand off patient care to the MSO. The MSO would determine if SFD medics would treat or if AMR would treat. It was then up to me (or one of our supervisors) to direct incoming units into the scene. Very effective system. When the duck crash happened that interaction worked flawlessly. Even got written up in a magazine.

    Nice set-up for Supervisor to use. I just viewed the video with this apparatus that your SMFR Search and Rescue use, along with teens assisting too. Great Group. That Ultrasound is an awesome cardiac diagnostic tool. That Decon Gun looks futuristic, but useful. Kind of distracting with medical call going out and fire apparatus responding lights and siren too while trying to talk, eh? That is a big job to keep track of all the units and everything else that is going on and organize so many. That board is essential. This was a great review video about what Med 1's job is and how it is equipped.

    Great video again. In fairness to the driver of this unit, should the be a crash cage between the front seat and back. There are many loose items in the rear and if the worst was to happen, there are many items the would come flying forward.

    Please do siren demos on the fleet Fridays

    • @some0ne8
      @some0ne8 3 года назад +3

      Lol you do see there are houses directly behind them, right? While the residents are probably used to sirens, just like you hear at the end of the video, they're only for a few seconds while the vehicle drives away. Having a truck sitting still with sirens on would be disruptive to other people nearby and possibly even nearby traffic. Fire stations tend to be very close to major roads...

    So just curious is there more than one ems supervisor because if there’s more than 1 large incident then I’d be curious what happens. In my area which is half the size of SMFR we have two and need one more

    • @QemeH
      @QemeH 3 года назад +2

      Size is not really the determinator for how likely two large incidents occur simultaneously - it's way more dependant on population and risk factors (e.g. highways, heavy industry, bodies of water, tourism areas, etc.). That being said: He did mention that a battalion chief is sent instead of Med 1 if they are not available or too far out.

    "sometimes we might have a mass shooting" is one of the most depressingly American things I've ever heard in my life

    • @QemeH
      @QemeH 3 года назад +2

      True. I'm in EMS (first EMT, now paramedic) for over 7 years now and I have had ZERO gun-shot wounds that weren't self-inflicted (accident or suicide attempt) and only two major injuries with a bladed weapon that weren't self-inflicted. [As you can tell from this, I don't work in the States :)]

    • @allthingsfire9926
      @allthingsfire9926 3 года назад

      to be fair though one of the reasons I imagine south metro has been so progressive with how they've implemented their equipment for being safe in an active shooter situation is that the area that this Fire district is in has had 5 mass shooting situations either in their immediate district or within the mutual aid departments that they assist(Columbine HS, Deer Creek middle school, Aurora movie theater, Arapahoe HS, Highlands Ranch Stem School) So I can only imagine with this being an unfortunate part of this departments history having to respond to these incidents they want to implement good policies to be prepared for the future. which in a way is great:)

    • @QemeH
      @QemeH 3 года назад +1

      @@allthingsfire9926 Yeah, obviously it's a sensible thing to do *if* you live in the distopian suburbs of the US. You adapt to the circumstances you live in. We are high on CBRN preparedness, because our beloved belgian neighbors have a rather shotty (in nuclear energy terms) reactor right at our border - they are high on mass shooting preparedness, because that's a thing that happens there.
      It's just a very depressing thing to say: "Well, yeah, mass shootings happen here. Nothing you can do."

    • @allthingsfire9926
      @allthingsfire9926 3 года назад +1

      @@QemeH yeah I agree its certainly a sad reality to face to say hey we actually need to put these precautions in place and train ourselves because these incidents could happen again at any time.....its a pretty crazy pill to swallow and very sad that its something that has to be done

  • @MichaelYTD

  • @QemeH
    @QemeH 3 года назад +2

    "anytime we wanna see what somebodys heart is doing" - way to undersell the LifePak :D
    It's basically the swiss army knife of EMS: It can do blood pressure (both oscillometric and invasive), radial pulse, oxygenation, capnography, monitor and/or print 12-lead EKG - it can act as AED or be used to apply shocks manually, it can be an external pacemaker, it announces CPR rythm and gives feedback on your quality of compressions and the newer version can even be linked with mechanical chest compression devices. Additionally, our version also has a mobile telecommunication pack, which means we can transfer everything it monitors and does to a doctor in real time, so they can consult on a case on-scene.
    [Edit: And I almost forgot the most important feature: Ours can read health insurance cards and print out full patient details (not history, but billing details), which in a lot of cases is the only thing you need for the entire call...]

    Has MED 1 ever given up there Life Pack to Medic unit in South Metro? I am guessing that Med 1 not having a working Life Pack would be better then a medic unit not having a usable Life Pack. I hope that there is some kind of spare for a Life Pack that breaks down. Say the screen goes bad or some other electronic or physical breakage happens. Also how many Ultrasound units dose South Metro Fire have? Thanks for the tour. BE SAFE OUT THERE EVERY TIME AND ALL THE TIME.
