  • Residents in Highlands Ranch have new neighbors! At 8:00 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021, South Metro Fire Rescue held a brief dedication ceremony to commemorate the opening of Fire Station 20, located at 1801 E. Wildcat Reserve Parkway. The 8,830 square foot firehouse features 6 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a fitness room, living room, kitchen, cleaning and decontamination rooms, a firefighter protective gear contamination extractor, large equipment storage spaces including a 1,030 square foot mezzanine and 3 apparatus bays.
Station 20 is currently home to a crew of 3 or 4 Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians who staff a fire engine and a wildland firefighting brush truck. The facility was built to accommodate a Medic unit and 6 total personnel in the future as call volume increases. Medic units at neighboring Station 17 and Station 18 will continue to provide advanced life support to the surrounding area.

When the various merges happened a few years ago, the tax rate for fire protection went up to the rate the rest of SMFR's district was paying. Among the many reasons to consolidate, they were talking about the plans for building Station 20. Anyway, this is them delivering on that promise. Definitely a win for the community.

Nice station! Stations are definitely nicer than when I entered the fire service 35 or so years ago. My favorite is the bay doors. Those are awesome!!!!I wonder if they are more expensive to repair when they get hit by a truck. And you can be assured it will happen some day. Not being negative but rather speaking from experience. And to those who commented on this being a big station for one rig you can rest assured that there will be rigs there in the future as the area expands. Its important to build for future expansion and glad to se that it is being done. I remember when that area had nothing but a few small farms and ranches and far from any city like infrastructure. I was born and raised in the Denver area so have seen huge changes and there are more to come. It almost makes me wish I was still working.

Bifold doors are extremely unlikely to be hit because of how quickly they move out of way. Can’t drive out and clip light bars or such. Annual maintenance costs are very minimal compared to roll ups. Initial cost is quite high but offset by much longer life.

As the "Hot Zone Design" showed at 15:19, the apparatus bay, and anywhere where bunker gear and anything else that may be contaminated from the carcinogens in fire smoke, are kept separate and isolated from the living quarters of the station. Similar to how departments are "deconning" on scene and some departments are keeping dirty bunker gear out of the cab, "clean cab", and storing it in compartments in the body of the engine.

I toured a fire station in Indiana two years ago. It was a good experience for me to compare fire stations in my home country, Japan, with those in the United States.

It’s The Chauffeur’s old school 3/4 boots that I’m diggin! Hope they legitimately allow that! Safety is key, but tradition is still important! Beautiful Station! Glad to see growth and progress!💪🏾🔥
