When I took Driver's Ed in high school back in '79, we were taught the Smith-System of Driving with 5 main topics. 1. Ain high in steering, 2. Get the Big Picture, 3. Keep your eyes moving, 4. Leave yourself an out and 5. Make sure they see you. This has helped me in avoiding accidents in my 43+ years of driving. Jen, my condolences on your loss. But on a happier note, I'm totally with you in the singing while driving department. My youngest child, who is now 29 years old, once said to me as a child: "Daddy, you even know the ugly songs." Lol. Great work as always, I've been watching your videos since day one.
Aside from the driver monitoring, I would argue that driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control and Lane centering actually give me much better situational awareness and I'm able to pay attention to what's happening with traffic even farther ahead than I can when controlling all of those inputs myself
The base 230i with only the convenience package cost me $39,500 (only minimal options). This was the MSRP. Fantastic car to drive! Happy with everything!
The comments about situational awareness are very apropos. And it echos what I have heard on several YT channels (e.g. Mentor Pilot) regarding the main jobs of a pilot: aviate, navigate, and communicate. Certainly the first two apply in spades to driving as well. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this amazing video, there's always a way you can keep us watching your videos without getting bored. As a video maker myself, I'll definitely take some inspiration from you ❤️
I ordered a 2022 230i and it arrived at BMW Seattle, they stayed honest with the price I ordered it for. With the M Sport pkg I paid 42k. I also got the 1.9 percent. Maybe they weren't happy with the deal but they didn't try to hustle me much. Its a beautiful car in purple and fun fast to drive no need for the M imo.
Just order a 230i M sport with dynamic handling. Saw one in person and immediately ordered one for myself. I test drove the g20 330i and I loved the way it drove so I decided to pull the trigger. Now it is frustrating having to wait for it to get built but it is a special experience getting to pick all the options I wanted. Yeah I can’t get a manual but I am happy with the idea of having a ZF automatic.
can you share your deal specs? i'm in the dallas market for a BMW (230i coupe with M package - MSRP $43K, with tax and fees $46.6K), I'm getting the "we can't budge on anything" lines and a ridiculous MF of 0.00216 with a 54% residual value. The guy told me that any deals I read about are "probably over a month old" and because interest rates keep rising, that's the best they can do, yadda yadda. They want $816/month for 36 months and 10K miles/year. comes out to $29K for the entire period. i'm currently in a tesla model 3 lease, 12K miles/year, paying $650 a month. tired of range anxiety (and the shitty tesla interiors). but just seems ridiculous to pay so damn much for a similarly priced car!
I am seriously considering the 2023 230i with base suspension but with 19in wheels /tires....I am 67 and will not be driving on a track, just sporty backroads and errands, long distance trips. BTW- I am coming from a 2018 Audi TT Quattro Coupe... I am also considering a 2023 VW GTI 40th anniversary ...Thoughts?
@17:03 talking about left lane huggers.. LoL. I'm always on right lane at speed limit and still people seems impatient and now I have put a "Student Driver" sticker on my back window now 😂 Zero tickets so far and cops don't even look at my 4Runner knowing it won't go over speed limit..🤣🤣🤣
I don't know if it's improved, but I found the Subaru system in a loaner Forester "hyperactive" beeping/flashing at me for even a wayward glance. Ironically, the various driver warning lights going off in the dash/instrument cluster constantly, had me looking away from the road, trying to figure out what was wrong. I assume with longer term ownership, I would have gotten used to all of that and not been distracted by the "distracted driver warnings," but they kind of drove me crazy on a 900 mile road trip a few Christmas' ago!
I like the show very much, watch it every week. I do feel that you are spending too much time in reviewing cars that most Americans don't buy. Your Q and A section as gotten reduced to just one question at the very end of the show. I would like to see the old format back when you answered more automotive questions.
9:48 all this really does is give credence to my statement that manual seats are the best. they're lighter weight, they can be adjusted faster, and in situations like this it's not one million years before someone standing out in the rain can get into the back seat. if I remember correctly Clarkson had the same complaint with the Evoque Coupe. another car I have an irrational love for.
I live in Bergen county in NJ and how disturbing that you pay almost a mortgage for your BMW that are always stuck with a 2” of rain and don’t let my Camry or CRV pass by you!!! What’s up with that? Especially the 3 series. Just wondering
I got this car and I was going to go for the GR86 but I saw how small it was and felt getting in and out would be a pain plus the BMW interior is so much more beautiful. For 10k more it wasnt much to me get this one. I think possibly its the GR86 thats over priced. The BMW 230i is a bargain for what it is looks, handling, fuel economy, and enough speed.
@@tresjolieme81 - I agree it’s a bargain. I picked up a 230i as well. Only have the Convenience Package and heated seats option. Priced at $39k, MSRP. Beautiful in Alpine White with Cognac interior. Love the way it drives.
In my humble opinion, these systems are creating even worse drivers nowadays. Folks now have this attitude of "I don't have to learn how to do this or that because the car will do it". Not to mention that they're completely distracted playing with either their phones or infotainment systems.
I agree with Ryan about drivers sitting in the left lane, IF the highway has light traffic. But if it’s crowded, and I’m going at or above the speed limit and I’m staying a respectful distance behind the vehicle in front of me then I’ll stay in the left lane if I want. I’m not going to accommodate some a$$hole driver who wants to go 15mph or more over the speed limit. And the car pool lane is not the fast lane either. You want to go faster, move to the right and go around. I shouldn’t have to speed just to use the car pool lane.
anybody have some bmw lease tips for April? in the market for a BMW (230i coupe with M package - MSRP $43K, with tax and fees $46.6K), I'm getting the "we can't budge on anything" lines and a ridiculous MF of 0.00216 with a 54% residual value. The problem with the decline and fall of BMW into numbed out status symbols is a sign of the feminization of the auto market. Take anything, lift the suspension, install a laptop on the dashboard, stick a box on the back with a spoiler so you can accommodate your 18 dogs and 75 tons of garbage and suitcases, and put a brand on it like a kidney grill. Everybody will buy it! It could handle like a shopping cart and nobody would know the difference. The insurance rates will skyrocket because people will be so busy playing with the computers that control everything that they won't pay attention to what they're doing and they will crash into you.

The best thing about the BMW is that it has a real grille, not one of their new, amputated nose atrocities.

I disagree. They are intrusive & annoying & rise the price for people that don’t want this crap - it’s completely unproven.
Jen, sorry for the lost of your father.
The base 230i with only the convenience package cost me $39,500 (only minimal options). This was the MSRP. Fantastic car to drive! Happy with everything!
Wow great fluid conversation, I appreciate it when each person can finish their point and the other panelists comment briefly!
I’m very sorry for your loss, Jen. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this undoubtedly difficult time.

I agree with u about the slow moving front seat when putting someone at the back. Was waiting for someone to bring this up lol
I was taught the same, always know your surroundings and every 10 seconds is good on the interstate

I like coupes better. Smaller. Sportier. More nimble, and no one asks you to drive.

Did you end up getting a 2023 230?? IF SO, how is it so far?? Im also debating to get one.
There will be X Drive on the smaller motor in the coming months. I wish it was also fully built in Germany.
Good chemistry here
I agree about BMW loosing its special sauce.
15:40 that’s why a good stereo is important

I’d love to hear you compare this BMW to the 2022 BRZ/GR86. Two RWD cars but at opposite price ranges.
I got this car and I was going to go for the GR86 but I saw how small it was and felt getting in and out would be a pain plus the BMW interior is so much more beautiful. Just heard "not available with a manual".. so leaving the video #savethestick #savethemanual
Bad news: Only the M2 (top trim line) can be optioned with a 6 speed manual.
Good news: I own a M2 with a 6 speed manual. 😁
Literally trying to get a new car for my mother right now.. just horrible.
Looking at the new 230..

Its still the passing lane. You are the asshole for ignoring that because you decided somone wants to drive to fast for your taste.
...and the "blind spot" which you don't always see. I see what you did there.
Talk about discombobulated rambling teleconference, maybe some sort of talking point agenda would help track the conversation inline
I’ve become a anti-SUV Individual.

Not a fan of BMW. Ryan hyped up the M2 so much in the past. I took it for a drive and was not impressed at all. Porsche is wayyyyy better.
BMW is trash. Buy a Toyota if you care about reliability and cost effectiveness. Buy a BMW if you care about superficial image
