That unnecessary increased steering ratio was specifically engineered for your average BMW driver to cut in front of other drivers on the road with no turn signals significantly faster. What an amazing feature, truly a game changer
Wow that’s so innovative!
I don't always drive like an asshole but when I do, it's in a Beamer.
Oh that’s good! lol
Ah that joke never gets old despite this effect now having fully handed off to Audi.
Average BMW driver will never buy 2 series coupe. They go 3,5 or X way. Or Audi :)
This looks like a car model from Grand Theft Auto. Trying to look familiar without causing any copyright issues.
xaxaxaxxaxaxaxaaxa spot on
It doesnt look too bad on its own, until you look at the last gen. Then its like.. feels like they intentionally made it worse.
Very confused surface treatment. Interior is a step up except for degraded passenger seat due to chip shortage.
Well put

I'm just glad that there's finally a video that represents the m240i long Mexican heritage, thank you guys!
That would be a great trend if they'd play music from the vehicles country of assembly each episode.
@@kevind4061 that would be awesome

Mark, Jack & Scott…thank you so much for all your efforts. I’m here in SoCal in the old mobile home, putting together IKEA dressers, listening to you guys and smiling. I feel like you dudes are my long lost friends. The Cadillac Blackwing review is playing in the background right now, you guys are talking like we’d all hope good friendly and sane folks would talk while blasting around a track in an unfamiliar car…please don’t ever change. I hope to meet y’all some day and say thanks for staying such down dudes in person. I’m fifty, rock an old base 986 (yeah, PCA autoX here and there when I don’t have to work of a Sunday-- maybe you’ll read this, who knows--I’ll be “the mobile home guy with the Boxster”), and you two have helped me reset to sanity during a pretty hard Winter.
Lots of love to you guys. And to everyone else reading along here down at 600 in the responses. What a great team you’ve made amongst yourselves. Thank you for sharing the energy, it matters so much sometimes…
I appreciate that you’re the only RUclipsr that doesn’t wash the cars and actually shows them as is.

Then I can't see what the car looks like...
I appreciate how you guys fit so much into a shorter video, its just always full of great content. 😁❤
I have no interest in most other reviewers who catalog every single button and warning light, as if they’re regurgitating the owner’s manual with barely any discussion of driving dynamics, if at all. I’ve started saving a lot of time by cutting my viewing back to Savage Geese, Throttle House and Driven these days.

I absolutely LOVE the music choice at the start of the Driving Impressions segment :))))))
I was waiting for you guys to make a review on this car and as always, my expectations are exceeded. The fact that you added mexican music between scenes was very funny. This 2 series is a nice package, it offers everything somebody could want but in a smaller car. If i want something more connected, i would wait for the new Nissan Z with a manual gearbox.
or the upcoming M2 with a 6 speed
It's a North American soundtrack.
Nissan recycling a 18 year old chassis with a new body and drivetrain? Hard pass.
@@machtschnell7452 unfortunate. 370Z was amazing when it came out and the new Z is just another iteration of it but you can't knock the bargain price and the Z chassis is pretty good.
What if BMW recycled an 18 year old chassis from the e46 M3? I’m pretty sure folks would love that. If new cars are too sterile, maybe old school could actually be a win?
Another great review to distract me from my work - Thank you!! And 3.7sec to 60mph, this thing is a beast!
i've been waiting for THIS review from YOU guys since launch!
Speaking as someone who is “financially light”, the most exciting part for me of this video was the slight glimpse of the channels new gr86 in Neptune blue. Really excited for that content!
I have grown to love the new iDrive and would agree it is the best current system (and I rent many other types of vehicles and it makes my other vehicle system seem like BlackBerry or Palm Treo). One of the things that is my favorite is the speed at which it is available. Sometimes I’m on my phone and I open the door and as soon as plunk my ass down in the seat the call is already on Bluetooth and I’ve not even pressed the start button. I’ve got to drive two blocks before other systems boot!
Loved the Mexican music intro to the driving impressions, unexpected and mad me laugh, great review!
Been a while since I watched SG, I like the combo of Mark and Jack. The channel needed this.
You guys make amazing car reviews. This car I think surprised a pretty good amount of people with how it does everything so well. In a way reminds me of my stinger which I currently drive. I test drove the m240i xdrive and was surely impressed by it. Definitely thinking about getting this next.
Friday morning, fresh coffee, new release from savagegeese? What better way to get ready for the weekend...
Your music choice is just perfect 👍

The cinematography and shots in the video are phenomenal! I'm always excited to see y'all upload. Definitely some of the best automotive content on RUclips.
Your chemistry is compelling. Great presenting team!
Being a dude who still drives a 20+ year old Japanese car as a daily, I shop for any two-door sporty car out there no matter who it's from (artificial scarcity and all that). BMW puts this out and many of my boxes are checked- it looks cool, has physical buttons, a sunroof, the power is good, and it has a large trunk for its size. But where BMW torpedoed the M240i is its lack of a manual gearbox option. just like the Supra. If this had a manual transmission and a hatch (hinge for the trunk on the roof rather than the rear glass), this could've been at the top of my "when my daily dies" shopping list for a new car.
Buy last generation in the used market! Old model was way better looking, less weight, and rear wheel drive option with a stick or even with xdrive!
You can also get exceptional MPG's in this car. The B58 is a monster.
No doubt. BMW not only underrates their horsepower, they also underrate their MPG. Mine's rated 28mpg highway. I get 30mpg+ in mixed driving, verified at the pump.
For less than 15k more you're in plug in x5 45e territory, 50 mpg combined and you get the federal 7500 rebate on top. I know it's not the same class but still.
Great engineering maximizes both!
@@pnourani I think there are maybe 5 people cross shopping those 2 cars. More importantly, even with the tax credit, most people would take forever to save that $7500 in fuel. Also, from what I’ve seen, x5s depreciate notability faster than the 2 series.

every review you guys do make me happy inside with so much unintentional comedy and deadpan delivery.
I’m so glad you washed the car just before filming 😉
This is the best most honest review I have seen on this car and I have seen them all because I am in the market.
I drive a 12 year old (had since new) BMW 135i coupe (manual) and test drove this new 240i a couple of days ago. I really like the interior and features and wanted to love the way it drove , however, driving this car I felt completely disconnected and it just confirmed how great my 135 is.
BMW electric steering leaves a lot to be desired. But you don’t get good steering without spending a lot more money. Other than that I think it’s a great all a rounder.
Same. Love my 135i, save for the fact that every time I think I've replaced everything that should break on it between 70-80K miles I'm proven wrong every 6 weeks or so. 😂
Still the best driving car I've owned, praise to my local indy shop for keeping it on the road for me.
You guys have the best auto enthusiast channel on RUclips. As such, you need to get away from that snow and move to the south. Alabama is nice year round.

@@TONIBOYDONTKILL still better than the front end of the 3-4 series.
Great video. I watched it with interest being the owner of a F22 M240i, my do-everything car. Quick and comfortable enough and have enough room for all my fishing gear. Even my RWD variant weighs 3500 lb, so not too surprised that the new one with AWD is over 3800 lb..... but cars are just getting bigger and heavier, esp coming from a few Miatas and a sub-3000 lb 981 Boxster. I can even handle the looks of the new one as it is just not too different from my car. I saw that my local dealer listed two for sale and they were gone quickly. Not too many choices in this category (2+2, near 400hp, comfy and roomy enough for daily use....etc.). Mine has treated me well with no issues after 4 years and is probably the best daily driver I have owned to date.
@Jack Bradford fortunately nothing needed replacement after 4 yrs. I had a E90 330i that had a water pump failure.... had a mk 6 GTI which was fun after a tune.
Hey, I just wanna say how I enjoyed your smart reviews. Thanks.
Took delivery of my M240 xDrive this week. The B58+ZF combo is absolutely a match made in heaven. I've driven pretty much nothing but manual cars before this and had a short stint with a Mazda3 turbo for less than a year - selling that because the automatic transmission was fairly lackluster and running back to a manual Mustang. Since most of my driving is just highway commuting and some stop lights here and there, after a while, the manual transmission becomes more of a chore than any real fun.
The lightening quick shifts with the paddle shifters alone make driving fun and puts a smile on my face. Although I do wish I could make an ol' fashioned clutch+stick work in my current commute without complaint, I definitely do not have any negatives so far on this guy.
8:25 Those *hits* on each shift look like they're _really_ satisfying 👍
7:58 that music is paired to perfection /chef's kiss
Very good and insightful review guys.
Intro music is what every M car driver hears when they’re walking towards their car in the parking lot.
Sure this car's great but I'd take Jack's T levels any day of the week

That makes me miss my beloved 2011 128i manual even more: manual, rwd, and less than 3200lbs. Sure it was only 230hp but such a lovely engine. At least launch a M240i sdrive manual.

Holy Hell! The Driving Impressions music freaking slayed me!!!!
Mine arrives in 2 weeks. Beyond hyped!!
I had a chance to drive the Supra and 23' M240i back to back, and 100% Supra is no where as refined as the M240i -Extremely polished experience. It might be a heaver car but you can't feel it. I was neck and Neck with a Modified G8! Flat Out! Supra is just a track car; you can't see out of it, it has huge A-pillers, over shoulder blind spot, and trash infotainment (delayed, dim, lacking tons of features for the $$). JBL Audio is absolute waist of time. Put your Supra in Sport mode and try to stay out of trouble! That what it was built for, one thing, Going Fast and getting sideways. Very Edgy Car!
... I Bought the M240i :D
Nice decision. Might I ask where you bought it from? Nevada seems to be getting very little allocations.
3:15 Mr Goose has seen the light and finally embraces winter car testing, with dirty cars on snow tires. Legitimate real world experience in a world that is not always warm and sunny, and a perfect way to stress test how invasive (or not) the driving stability nannies are.
I think he was always onboard with that. But now, the manufacturers are sending press cars to the Midwest in winter thanks to Mr. Goose’s efforts.
Not for me, we have no winter.
as usual, very informative - any plans for a 230i review ?
Great review guys.
I am crossing my fingers and hoping to see an SG vid in my feed for the new Elantra N. We really enjoy your work; by far the best.
Edit: I think I need to preface this by saying this was another great review from SG. Love your content, and the technical reviews are often so enlightening. Thank you SG!
I originally wanted to comment something simple like "no manual, no buy", or is it available in RWD. I am genuinely curious if the engine is longitudinally mounted or if this is the new FWD/transverse platform BMW has been threatening for some time now; but my big concern is how it kinda feels like we're all just accepting "the way of the modern car".
If we're truly in the "end of an era", the outro of the ICE, wouldn't this be an opportunity for companies like BMW, Subaru, etc to make communicative and responsive cars? If our future is as bleak as many allude to, where we're all watching our indistinguishable, soulless blobs of high-strength steel drive us around, isn't now the time to make something fun? And we shouldn't make excuses for BMW not learning/caring how to tune EPS properly. Subaru and Porsche both did it, and were able to make a responsive and engaging EPS system (thinking of the WRX and BRZ/86 specifically).
Where I'm coming from on this is I bought a pickup and a race car. The pickup is a rolling antithesis to everything I stand for in a car, but the racecar gives me all the visceral engagement I could ask for. My issue is that now I don't see a way out of that setup, especially being a BMW fan. I either buy something old (with the poor safety ratings that come with it), or I compromise significantly on something new and pay out the ass for it. /rant
Thanks for reading the musings of a younger guy who didn't really get the chance to vote with my wallet in BMW's heyday.
Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your first paragraph, but anything other than the 1er and the 2er "Gran Coupé" in BMW's stable is RWD(I should add X1 and X2 are also FWD based.). In-line 6 engines generally do not fit in FWD based platforms(except that one Volvo that was a maintenance nightmare.)
Nobody does it better than you guys! NOBODY!
Very informative. If I did not have a 335is now and no need to cope with snow, I would look at this for sure.
A great review on the car I expect to arrive any day at my local dealership - Thunder Night over black with extended shadowline trim...almost this exact car. I am excited to see it in person and turn it over to the wife as it is her daily. Your review matches my expectations to be honest. At least I now know what it will look like after the first snowstorm!
Well BMW just likes making the point that the TLX type S launched as an obsolete product.
This is so sad, I absolutely love the look of the TLX type S and really wish it was more competitive with the 240i and 340i performance-wise.
Yeah I agree. Acura fumbled the ball at the goal line in terms of the amount of power they gave the TLX Type S. Their super handling AWD is one of the best in the car industry so if Acura gave the TLX about 50 to 100 more HP they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand.
@Ralph B To each their own. I tuned my S6 to 600hp and still want more 😂
@Ralph B 384hp? Bruh a stock b58 pumps around 400hp at the dyno with crappy 93.
@Ralph B On-ramps and toll roads. With AWD, it puts all the power down so it’s nice having all of that off-the-line thrust on the street, too.

The B58 & ZF 8-speed are great.

@@dougrobinson8602
Maybe I’m just lazy or I like the insane fast gear changes of the ZF automatic. I can ‘shift’ with the accelerometer when driving normally (or use the peddles ofc)
Can confirm. The ZF is superior than 6speed in 99% of driving situations I find myself in. Sure there’s less driver engagement but it’s quicker and much more convenient. If your car is going to be a DD it’s no contest.
The way you present the car, covered in road salt, is EXACTLY how I see every car on the road five months a year. So, I don’t see it as a problem. This is exactly how you would see them on the road, in real life.
When in MI I always drove a "salt ride" in winter. Driving a nice car in that sh*t is insane
The music is SO GOOD. It mirrors the design madness quite well.
I've owned this car brand new since april 2022, and have put 27k miles on the odometer. It still brings a smile to my face every time i get into the car.
I picked up my 230i M Sport in November. I love the RWD dynamics and lighter weight, and with 255s on each corner (aftermarket tire/wheel set) I get to keep all that speed through the apex. However, yes, the steering is not great and that variable rate rack almost sucks, but I'll live with. I do think the 230i is overlooked waaaay too much. Great video, again, and I love the sections in "the Shoppe." Sounds like the M240 RWD (when it comes out) will be the best coupe on the road??? One question, was the hose frozen outside?...that car is crunchy, man!
Great review as always. I've been eyeing the new 2-series - well not from the outside, let's be real, from the driver's seat. I'm sure the 30i has better steering. The new G-platform 2-, 3-, and 4-series cars with the smaller engine have a brand-new steering setup for this generation, whereas the 40i versions have to make do with the F-platform cars' steering rack. Apparently the new steering rack wouldn't fit in the 40i models for packaging reasons. My wife has a 330i with the M Sport package, and I actually like the steering in that car a lot. Similar to my now-departed Mk7 GTI, the steering is fairly light and ramps up the steering rate in a more natural way instead of abruptly like you guys mentioned in the video.
Weird I had a G platform 330i as a loaner for a couple days and thought the steering feel was even worse than my pop's F 440i
The sad thing is that this car weights nearly as much as the 3 series Wagon.

3800lbs!!! That's heavier than the RWD Tesla Model 3! (3648 lbs), which is bigger AND has a heavy battery! That's heavier than many crossovers! Is the body made of lead?
3871 lbs to be precise. Indeed very heavy. For comfort I guess.

What green is that Patagonia Quarter-Zip that Jack’s wearing?
Beautiful and capable. And frigging FAST
The M240i is impressively fast but it wouldn’t be for me. Just too fast and can’t have a ton of fun driving it hard without getting thrown in jail. I just finished a front suspension overhaul on my 06 330ci ZHP with 124K miles, fresh Conti extreme contact sports and alignment and did some driving in the twisties this weekend and had an absolute blast and I don’t think I topped 100 MPH. I don’t think it’s slow, 5.5 seconds to 60 with a hard launch is possible but man is it fun, communicative and capable for what it is. Easily taking 35 mph rated turns at 70-75 mph and grinning ear to ear the whole time. I believe it’s under 3300 lbs curb weight too. Still in love with that thing after 9.5 years of ownership.
When the Mexican music started I cried laughing 😂🤣
I’m really interested in hearing about the 230i. It’s much cheaper, still makes decent power and has all the luxury chops of the M lite model. I’d also be curious to hear how it compares in RWD.
Just watch any review on an m340i to understand what this car (with the same engine, transmission, and weight) would be like. The 2 and 3 series are effectively the same car with different sheet metal at this point. To answer the question the m340i is great in rwd, so this car would be also. The 230i I imagine is quite capable, just a little harder to slide with the 4 cylinder.
I ordered the 230i in Thundernight with the black trim for 40k, I agree its still fast and could smoke a lot of top VW and Hondas.
@@TheNondiscriminatory isn’t the m340i significantly slower to 60 though. Like 3.9-4.0s
Honestly a CPO F22 M240i in RWD with the manual is probably the better move. Lighter, same engine, roomier, built in Germany, tons of factory options (slick top, manual, 8spd, xdrive, diff etc.). It’s also not nearly as polarizing aesthetically. The Supra just completely dabbed the F22 into the void when it came to social media lol.
@@Estoril_Blau They did that them selves by witholding wider quarter panels. The F22 looks pathetic with those 7.5J fenders. The new car finally has proper sporty quarter panels, but the car as a whole is heavy and ugly.
