Thank you for volunteering with Samaritan’s Purse! They and Mercy Chefs were the two charities we saw serving my community best after Hurricane Michael. One of the most surreal moments in my life was watching Operation Christmas Child boxes being handed out in my hometown, after we’ve filled shoeboxes as part of our family tradition every year, for as long as I can remember. I still get teary remembering it.
Kent I will forever be gratefull. Years ago I watched a video of you cooking beans and I had never eaten beans before, so I tried and got hooked! Meanwhile I started a permaculture on my property and now heirlooms beans growing all over the place, waiting to be eaten in a warm nutritious soup this winter. Thank you !!!
Please don't forget that you can take the leftover pot roast, dice it up with the gravy to make a hash that you can store in the fridge overnight, THEN bring it out next evening and heat it up, slop it on tortillas with cheese/salsa/sour cream or however you like it, to make one of THE BEST leftover dishes that is HASH BURRITOS.
That's what I do after Thanksgiving. Take everything leftover and throw it all together in a skillet. I mean everything lol. Turkey mashed taters gravy stuffing green beans cranberry sauce. Heat it all up to a slop and dig in . Fantastic

I am 72 now and still never forget those sun. Dinners. My grandma always had a couple loaves of baked bread ready for the meal. Loved that bread with the gravy…..mmmmm. Thanks

I wanted to write the same exact thing. I´m turning 61 this year, but the memories of sitting around my grandparent´s table on Sundays after church here in the piney woods of East Texas are still very fresh. Maw-maw was a great cook and baker.
I absolutely love that prayer at the end. My grandmother, being 97 years old, we still pray this on Christmas Even to this day. Looking forward to December to thank Jesus again.

I miss the America we grew up in. We weren't republicans, or democrats, we were neighbors and friends. If you seen your neighbor out working on a project, most of the neighbors would show up to lend a hand, and it always turned into a bar b que, or large dinner. It seemed like we had a slight reminder after 9/11, but we soon forgot.....
Then make Sunday Grave, and they will help. Nonna Pia does. I do. I went to chef school after I retired at 48, but I still had Nonna Claudia to teach me original recipes the old-fashioned way, fancy degrees, and JP Morgan, my own company, and all was fine. She lived in Sicily. She is 80. She taught me some of the old ways from Italy. People are blown away, just like they are with KR's recipes.
Your video stirred memories of Sunday afternoon dinners at my grandparents house, my dad's pop, and step mother, she was grandma Laura to us. She really knew how to cook and bake. There'd be relatives I barely knew. They're all gone now, but those memories will last a lifetime.
67 year old male here. I miss the growing up and having the Sunday dinners with family. Grandma and Mom cooking that pot roast in there cast iron Dutch ovens. The rich beef gravy was always my favorite. No meal complete with out a couple of slices of homemade bread and gravy at the end of the meal. The next Sunday was fried chicken in the huge cast-iron skillet.
That pot roast sure brings back some fond memories of a gentler, kinder time in my life. Carrots, potatoes, onions were all a staple for pot roast at home. Fantastic down home (everybody's home) eats for sure. I feel sorry for any new kids who don't grow up in a house where the family meal was king. We never ate fancy growing up but we sure ate hearty.
People say life changes and forget about what used to be, but I can't. I love the old videos . Those were the best times of my life. No matter how hard I try to fill the emptiness I can't replace the happiness that the elders brought me, and nothing in life now makes me smile like they did. I feel lost as a blind man in a rain storm nowadays😢❤

Nothing wrong with a splash of red wine in your pot roast or beef stew. It's good to mix up your recipes a little bit so that you can eat the same meal and have a different flavor the next time. Example: Add Thyme to you recipe. Next time, add Rosemary instead. Next time add some Paprika instead. Its the same recipe with three different flavors.
I use a splash if Cognac at the right time. Whatever flavor you want, the alcohol is reduced by 100%. That gives a nice flavor. If you think you will turn into a pillar of salt, then don't do it. It does reduce NaCl
Oh the memories! Mom used to make “Sunday Pot Roast” with the taters, onions, & carrots. Mom’s been gone 12 years now, but I saw her making the pot roast! Thanks for the memories!!!!

This takes me back to my childhood and that was many moons ago, Thank You Sir! The only thing missing is celery. Mom used to put 3 or 4 pieces in hers. I'm gonna have to make a pot roast this Sunday.

My mom made it a full business after we all grew up and did well. My dad in his 70 s worked as a bridge tender at night and he would go down to the pilings and fish for striped bass. He comes from a family of 14 children and was the best man I ever knew. Thank you for your comment Sir

This video was FANTASTIC!! I made all the things you did last night for supper. Chuck roast, carrots and fresh green beans are my absolute favorite!! I make this meal often. There’s nothing better than this, Chef Rollins! 💕🙏🙏
My parents, aunts, uncles and my grandparents were around in the Great Depression era. One of my maternal aunts, who is in her 90s, told me once that long ago, people did a lot of sharing. She said that once someone hunted a moose, and they shared the meat with others, so they could have food to eat. My dad is 94, and he and most of his siblings (one passed away as an infant) would remember the Great Depression era and what was happening. They remember what it was like on the farm in Alberta, Canada, with their parents. My (late) mother, and her 3 older sisters, were also around in those days, and they would remember what it was like with their parents on their farm in Alberta, during the 1930s, and in the 1940s. We really can learn alot from these people who lived in North America, during the Great Depression times. There is a lot of good wisdom to be learned. I also put onions, as well as carrots and celery in my pot roast, on the bottom, because it acts as a nice barrier for the beef, and it imparts added flavour. A good pot roast is definitely top notch comfort food. The pot roast you made looks so good. Thanks to our farmers and ranchers for helping to feed us. I went went camping with my friend and his parents in their trailer for the weekend. It was just like the place like you are at and the wonderful time we had was magic. Beautiful pine trees and families cooking out on barbecues and open fires. Thank you for sparking a beautiful memory of my early teens. Love you all. Have a blessed weekend.

This video means a lot to me! My family comes from a 6300 acre wheat farm. I remember waking up and the girls already had breakfast ready then headed right back into the kitchen to start making lunch. And there wasn’t a better feeling then when we would see the dust behind this flat bed pickups coming down the road that were loaded with biscuits roast and all the other fixings you could think of. It was a small feast every day. We would eat out there in the wheat field in the shade of thos tractors. Then after the girls would head back and start on dinner. The girls in my family whenton to have 4 published cook books. I am forever grateful for thos meals and the memories I had growing up. This vid really struck a cord which me.
It has been 5 or 6 years I have been watching your videos that I have always wanted to to see you do a roast in the cast iron Dutch oven. You do make it different mom did but it will never taste better.
Great memories! I remember my Mom doing the same thing on Sunday morning. All 7 kids, Mom and Dad would pile into the station wagon, church then almost always someone would be invited to dinner. We were all clean, and on time!

I thought it was my imagination that the carrots were smaller adter cooking. Now I know the reason. Thanks Kent! Some of my favorite memories were of Sunday roast dinners. I still make it occasionally, even though its only me.
I'm about 20 years younger than Kent, but what fascinates me is the "old ladies" we knew growing up all looked the same. Similar dresses, hair-dos, glasses. It all matches. It's like there were a few decades where style just froze in time.
More like most people kept the same clothes for years and years before passing down or it was all made my mom and grandma from the same patterns over and over again for decades 😊

This is real pot roast no alcohol no wine just good old simple Basics delicious and perfect.

This takes me back to my childhood and that was many moons ago, Thank You Sir! The only thing missing is celery. Mom used to put 3 or 4 pieces in hers. I'm gonna have to make a pot roast this Sunday.

@@CowboyKentRollins my dad was an auto mechanic and my mom did upholstery work in the living room. My dad brought home about a hundred dollars a week in the 50s 60s. My mom made it a full business after we all grew up and did well. My dad in his 70 s worked as a bridge tender at night and he would go down to the pilings and fish for striped bass. He comes from a family of 14 children and was the best man I ever knew. Thank you for your comment Sir

My parents, aunts, uncles and my grandparents were around in the Great Depression era. One of my maternal aunts, who is in her 90s, told me once that long ago, people did a lot of sharing. She said that once someone hunted a moose, and they shared the meat with others, so they could have food to eat.
My dad is 94, and he and most of his siblings (one passed away as an infant) would remember the Great Depression era and what was happening. They remember what it was like on the farm in Alberta, Canada, with their parents.
My (late) mother, and her 3 older sisters, were also around in those days, and they would remember what it was like with their parents on their farm in Alberta, during the 1930s, and in the 1940s.
We really can learn alot from these people who lived in North America, during the Great Depression times. There is a lot of good wisdom to be learned.
I also put onions, as well as carrots and celery in my pot roast, on the bottom, because it acts as a nice barrier for the beef, and it imparts added flavour. A good pot roast is definitely top notch comfort food. The pot roast you made looks so good.

Absolutely love your new camp and chuck wagon Kent!! Your camp takes me back to a camp site around 1982 near Sault Sainte Marie. I went went camping with my friend and his parents in their trailer for the weekend. It was just like the place like you are at and the wonderful time we had was magic. Beautiful pine trees and families cooking out on barbecues and open fires. Thank you for sparking a beautiful memory of my early teens. Love you all. Have a blessed weekend.

This video means a lot to me! My family comes from a 6300 acre wheat farm. I remember waking up and the girls already had breakfast ready then headed right back into the kitchen to start making lunch. And there wasn’t a better feeling then when we would see the dust behind this flat bed pickups coming down the road that were loaded with biscuits roast and all the other fixings you could think of. It was a small feast every day. We would eat out there in the wheat field in the shade of thos tractors. Then after the girls would head back and start on dinner. The girls in my family whenton to have 4 published cook books. I am forever grateful for thos meals and the memories I had growing up. This vid really struck a cord which me.

Great memories! I remember my Mom doing the same thing on Sunday morning. All 7 kids, Mom and Dad would pile into the station wagon, church then almost always someone would be invited to dinner. We were all clean, and on time!

Adding another comment.. those pictures and videos remind me of some of the old photos that I have of my parents, grandparents, and the rest of the relatives. I grew up around small farm towns in NE Iowa.

I'm about 20 years younger than Kent, but what fascinates me is the "old ladies" we knew growing up all looked the same. Similar dresses, hair-dos, glasses. It all matches. It's like there were a few decades where style just froze in time.
More like most people kept the same clothes for years and years before passing down or it was all made my mom and grandma from the same patterns over and over again for decades 😊
