It has been known since early May that the T7 drives did not work with the Blackmagic Pocket Cameras. BMD tested themselves and they did not work. We have all known this since early May and when Tilta announced this cage, I even emailed them directly to let them know so they have no excuse. Yet, Tilta decide to knowingly send a cage to customers that they can't use. Why on earth would tilta go ahead and send customers a cage that they know they can't use? It's completely baffling!! It's pretty obvious that Tilta doesn't care for its customers at all.
Great video. Thank you for making it. It helped answer an important question that I had, which was weather I could use this cage with the battery grip or weather I would have to buy something additional. I subscribed to your channel! Thanks so much!
I have the same setup and enjoyed the video very much. At the very end of the video you mention in passing attaching the rod mount. I have the same lens and ordered the baseplate to accommodate a longer rod for the Follow Focus. I've had difficulty getting the base plate to fit on the cage. I'm wondering if you have added the base plate to your rig. I'm also curious if the lens needs additional support. If it does, how should it be set up. Perhaps these could be subjects of future videos. Your videos are very helpful!
Thanks for a nice review! Can you please check, if the cage is compatible with standard arca swiss plate, as previous Tilta cages were just a tad bigger. Thank you!
Just got mine, love it. Tilta needs to do a better job clarifying that the USB-C cable with mounting screw actually works with this; they currently say, only with the BMPCC 4K.
Still waiting on mine as well... doesn't really matter though because I have yet to order the camera. A little backwards I know, but I wanted to buy this stuff for the pre-order price. lol
Only has 1 usable 1/4 20 thread on the bottom so unless you use Tiltas 15mm baseplate, any tripod plate will twist around in use. SmallRig managed to use use two on their cage (as do Tiltas regular 4k and 6k cages) so this one is a huge step backwards. Far from the 'best cage' out there!
How balanced is this though? It looks extremely front heavy. I have the 6k pro + battery grip and can't decide if it's even worth keeping the battery grip on or just using rods + v-mount batteries to distribute the weight better. Is the handle far enough forward to make this manageable?
I’d say the central balance point would be slightly in front of the lens Mount. To counteract this, my long manfrotto baseplate is pushed forward quite a bit so it sits on my tripod well balanced. For the top handle, you can purchase the tilta handle that flips forward towards the lens rather than backwards towards you, giving you a more balanced hold of the camera
Thanks for the video. Can you please elaborate on the T7 SSD not working well with the camera you mention at 1:57? Also, I wish the rig didn't have to be reduced to a half cage in order to use the battery extension. There's a lot of stuff that could be attached there. Also wish they would have made the F970 battery side power handle fit the cage. Yet, it is one of the best cages available. Thanks again!
It is a bit up in the air and up for debate, though Blackmagic representatives have stated that the t7 SSD does not work on the pocket line of cameras, due to a different protocol and data bottleneck - Some people say it works, but I have so many t5 drives already that it doesn't make sense for me to try my luck and buy a new SSD that may not work. I believe you can use the side handle using one of their adapters tilta.com/shop/tiltaing-side-handle-attachment-type-iii/
Nice looking rig mate. I’m wondering if you can use the cage as a half cage without the battery grip? Can the bottom plate stay attached so that the half cage stays fixed to the camera at the top and bottom?
www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1488599-REG/tilta_cb_usbc_20_90_degree_usb_c_cable_7.html this is the cable I bought :) only locks to the tilta cage though and tilta ssd clamps
Nice video, man, thanks. May I know which kind of "clamp" are you using to lock the usb-c cable to the cage (I dont mean where it connects the connecter, but the cable itself. It looks like you are using a cable lock that is screwed into the 1/4 20mm slot of the cage. That's perfect)
Hey dude! It is a 20cm USB-C right angle Tilta cable. You can find it on the Tilta website under the 4K/6K/6K Pro accessories. It only works on the tilta cages though, so it won’t work on a smallrig cage
@@GimbleProductions hey my dude, thanks for replying. But I'm meaning the little black thing that is attaching the cable cord - at the middle of the 90degree cable - to the cage. It's the one thing that's "bending the cable in the middle"
Hi Vincent! You can find a full list of accessories for the cage here tilta.com/product-category/shop-by-camera/for-blackmagic-design-cameras/bmpcc-6k-pro/ I purchased the rotating tilta handle, t5 ssd holder, 20cm USB-C cable, and the 15mm rod clamp
That was a Camvate half cage for BMPCC 4K, but with a longer rod inside it . The top screw hole did not line up with the top of the Pro though, but it was a makeshift solution for the time being until I got the tilta :)
Perhaps, though I certainly am not going to trust a long lens hanging off the front of my cam without support. If you’re going to use a focus motor or mattbox, you’re going to have rods anyway. I usually keep my camera with the lens on ALL the time, it might not be the heaviest lens, but over time it’s not out of the question that it could put strain on the lens Mount
I just got the base cage - not handles or accessory kits, just the cage by itself. I bought the accessories separate as I didn't feel the kit once fulfilled my needs
Perhaps check your Tilta account - if it still says it is processing, it has not yet left the company. If it says complete it is on its way, though they didn’t give me a tracking number that worked, it just showed up a few days later!
Olivier G. Burri Geez, you do also have the option of buying through AliExpress directly from the China warehouse - any non American country will get their equipment sent from China anyway
You can find a full list of accessories for the cage here tilta.com/product-category/shop-by-camera/for-blackmagic-design-cameras/bmpcc-6k-pro/ I purchased the rotating tilta handle, t5 ssd holder, 20cm USB-C cable, and the 15mm rod clamp. If I were to purchase my accessories again, I would purchase a different top handle as there is little space to put your hand in between the handle and ssd holder. A higher sitting handle would work a charm!
Hey Dominic - I purchased the tilta handle too but it doesn't seem to be connecting to the 6k pro. It should communicate via the usb c cable right? When I hit record a red light comes on the top of the handle - changing from green but no record. Any ideas from you or @Tilta would be great in resolving this.
Matt Faris Hi Matt - it SHOULD work so I’m unsure why this is occurring. Perhaps roll back your camera firmware and see if that helps, it’s possible BM’s latest firmware doesn’t correspond well with the older handle firmware for the 4K/6k
@@GimbleProductions - worked out that there is a specific cable that comes with the handle so that's me sorted now! Thanks for getting back to me and great video man!
