WHY I’M QUITTING MONAT AFTER 8 MONTHS | UPDATED PROS AND CONS

  • ❥ Hey guys!!! This video turned out to be very lonnggg. Like over 35 minutes long. Sooo, I decided to split the video up into two parts. This video is going to be the pros and cons that I've experienced with Monat over the last 8 months. I already did a pro and con video when I did my 90 day trail run. My opinions have changed a lot since then, so I hope you guys enjoy this video. It has been a serious hair journey for me using these products. I put a lot of money, hardwork, and faith into Monat but in the end....Detox is the #1 reason why I'm quitting. I will explain more in my Monat Q&A Part 2 video. I'll have that video up in a few days.
    Pros:
    1) Hair is very shiny!!!! & “looks healthy”
    2) Hair is soft - on good hair days
    3) Love the Revitalize conditioner !!! - product goes a long way
    4) Love the Rejuvanique oil !!! -best hair oil I've ever used
    Kinda Pros:
    1) It holds color okay. It would probably hold even better if I didn’t have to wash as often.
    2) Hair growth is present but noticed it isn’t as prevalent like first few months.
    Cons:
    1) Detox is still present after 8 months!!!!!
    2) Hair is falling out, again. “Shedding”
    3) Hair gets tangled easier, experiencing a lot of knots
    4) Monat shampoo doesn’t work well with ANY other products
    5) Have to shampoo 3 or 4 times, even scrubbing the scalp to get somewhat of a clean hair result
    6) Expensive
    7) Inconsistent results. One day hair is great then two days later hair feels worse
    8) Can not go a couple days without washing hair because of greasy scalp
    9) Hair would sometimes feel very dry. Which is odd because scalp is greasy but ends are dry.
Total of 9 Monat orders placed since February 2017
Total money spent on Monat: $378.18
See you on the next one.❤︎
I love you guys 💞Thank you for watching!!!
    ❤️Love, Destinee❤️

I'm a cosmetologist so I'd like to think I know a little bit about hair. Your hair does not need to "detox". It's dead, it's not alive, it doesnt create anything that would need to be detoxified from it. It's made of protein called keratin. If, let's say, you have a build up of product, which can happen when using cheap shampoos that have silicone in them or lots of styling products, you can do a clarifying treatment, thats one (count, one) treatment done maybe once or twice a month. This shampoo and conditioner are what we call "thickening" products. They have certain ingredients in them that make your hair feel thicker and look nicer, but they are actually extremely drying to your hair (the dryer the hair, the more volume it has) and it can cause your scalp to over-produce oils to compensate for the drying aspect of the shampoo. Hence why you have dry ends and a greasy scalp. These thickening agents do nothing to actually help your hair get healthier, in fact, I argue they make your hair more damaged, as they purposely rough up your cuticle, making your hair more prone to breakage. The "shedding" and tangling youre experiencing is your hair breaking off from being brittle and dry. For some people this happens half way down the hair shaft, others it can happen at the root and leave a bald spot. I would *never* reccomend using a thickening shampoo or product everyday, it's something you use on occasion, or you cycle it with a normal shampoo. Monat is using peoples ignorance about hair and hair products to steal money out of their wallets.

Estefany Reyes hi. I’m a cosmetologist too. I would recommend you go to a salon(even great clips) and get yourself some TiGi, matrix, or whatever they’re selling. You may find some name brands at Target or Walmart, but don’t be fooled, they’re not professional grade and are often watered down. Look up professional hair care lines and see if you can find them in a Sally’s if you don’t want to go to a salon(not having a license limits your access to professional products because as professionals we know the chemicals in products and how these chemicals will react. It’s not as simple as people brush it off as and should be left to us. You visit a professional for everything else that goes wrong with your body, so please trust us. We paid for school and are constantly educating ourselves thereafter. Trust us darlings). This girl in the video is clearly not a professional and is low key spreading misinformation. Check your beauty gurus credentials. Also, MONAT is expensive as hell compared to matrix which is a great professional brand if you’re on a budget. Also, most people often have a friend or relative that is a hairdresser or cosmo. Ask them if their comfortable purchasing professional products for you.

Hello! This post was from a long time ago but I came across it last night and thank you so much for posting this out here for people. I have been doing Monat for a little over 5 months and last night after watching this I decided to stop Monat. After months of a greasy feeling/looking scalp and countless messages to others trying to figure out why and what to do..I just couldn't do it anymore! This morning I went back to using regular Pantene shampoo/conditioner and the before and after pictures/results are insane! My hair feels incredible today! No grease and honestly my hair feels Fuller! I do also believe that it was making my hair fall out around my scalp area as well. But I wanted to tell you that you are NOT a special case! ALL of your cons we're exactly what I have been going through! And I tried so many different systems to help improve my greasy looking/feeling hair and nothing worked. And don't get me started on how long you have to rinse and scrub your head just for it to look dirty. Thanks again!

I’ve been using garnier sleek and shine line without parabens for 2 years. I drink lots of water, take supplements, work out and watch my diet. My hair doesn’t shed, its very soft and shiny even with occasional color and heat treatments. My point is, I treat my hair first from within and use pretty minimalistic routine. Any time I try these “amazing for hair” products, my hair goes haywire 🤷🏻‍♀️

These products are crap! I used them and I know first hand! I've also seen what they have done to others. I have also seen first hand how the company really doesn't care as long as you keep buying more products to fix whatever problems you're having when they can't convince you it's detox. And I believe the company is shady from the Cadillacs they "give" away (they're not free) to the cruises to the million dollar club and especially their own admission that your hair will fall out - with a side note of detox because they know your hair is going to fall out and they want to put that disclaimer in there no matter how ridiculous. It's a legal talk people. The company is trying to cover it's behind because they know what is going to happen and don't want a lawsuit. Listen to them. Pay attention. There is a very valuable message in what they tell you but you have to cut through all the hype and LISTEN! It's all very scammy sounding to me. I can't wait for it all to catch up with them and I do believe it will.

Thanks so much for this video. I am about 2 months in with Monat and I am literally you. My hair looks very very similar to yours and I have a naturally oily scalp. This “detox” is getting worse and not better. I’m not sure I’m ready to put any more money into it knowing there is a good chance it will never work. I’ve never had tangly hair or shed a lot but my hair is almost impossible to comb through and comes out by about the handful when I wash it. It’s nice to hear a good honest review and see that this doesn’t necessarily work for everyone. I plan to try for a bit longer but won’t be sticking more money in unless it gets much better.

Thank you for posting this, I’ve had all of the same effects from Monat. I REALLY wanted to love it. I used it for 6 months exclusively and I’m finally giving up. My hair looked great for the first month and then it was downhill. The hair loss the past couple of months was just insane and I couldn’t take it anymore. My scalp was oily as well and I couldn’t skip as many days in between washing, yet the rest of my hair was so dry. I have very straight, fine hair and I started feeling like I had a build up on my hair shaft causing my straight hair to be flat and frizzy on the ends. Oh and btw...The dry shampoo and hairspray are TERRIBLE, so be glad you didn’t try that. My hair did grow a good amount at first, but the hair shedding is so bad that I’d rather keep the hair I have and have less growth. I went back to alterna clinical and caviar line and my hair is so much better. I think Monat lovers need to understand that these products are not for everyone and that people need to hear honest reviews like yours. I spent a lot of time and money on Monat and it’s refreshing to hear I’m not the only one that had this experience.

I just wanna say I really appreciate you making this video. I have been using Monat products since 2020. I had to stop probably about 6 months in because the “dandruff” it created was awful. The marketing producers told me it was just the detox and it would go away but it never did. Anyway I decided to use them again recently because my hairdresser said she loved the products and also because I loved the smell and I loved how the conditioner worked and I loved the dry shampoo. I have had to stop again because the dandruff the products have created are really impacting. You can see flakiness and I constantly feel itchy. When I stopped using in 2020 and went back to drug store products, I was still suffering from that dandruffy shit. It wouldn’t go away. I tried using head and shoulders and it went away for the most part but was still there.... and now I don’t even know what to do. I feel like I’ve made a mistake by going back to using the products because now I’m back to being itchy and I have to restart the dandruff treatment. I’m happy to know I’m not the only one who has suffered such weird complications from using Monat products. So I really appreciate you making the video and telling the truth about your experience. I hate how the marketing producers are always like it’s the best! Without telling people that it might not work for them... cuz it sure as fuck has not worked for me, as much as I wanted it to.

Luisa Arcila lmfao the skin does not detox. The kidneys, liver, colon, and lungs are the only organs that detox.
      From google:
Because the skin is the largest organ in the body and can therefore pick up dirt and grime, some believe it is possible to “purge” the skin and remove all the “bad” stuff that’s clogging pores. This isn’t really true.
“There’s no such thing as skin detox from a medical perspective,” says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Fayne Frey
Why? Because toxins can’t exit the body via the skin.

Thanks for your honest review. Used Monat for 2 years straight up thinned and fried my hair. I originally started using it because I wanted a more natural shampoo and conditioner. Prior I had very little split ends and no breakage now my hair is way shorter due to breakage. Was signed up as a market partner and never worked the biz cuz I was never sold on it. If I'm paying that much my hair should look bomb. The detox thing is bogus these products cause so much build up and nastiness. I'm totally done with it just praying that my hair can be salvaged. My prediction is that this company will be sued just like Wen.

It's definitely not detox...check out Deverne August's page. I do know the more you physically scrub your hair, and it sounds like you do alot in the shower and your doing circular motion, the more oil your scalp is going to produce. If you are scrubbing your scalp and hair so much it's going to get tangled up 🤣🤣🤣 and why were you scrubbing your scalp and hair that much???? You're only supposed to shampoo twice. The more u shampoo your hair, the more your scalp thinks it needs to produce oil...hence your oily scalp every other day..Honestly, you have totally been using the products wrong. I wish people would really research the product well before bashing it. Kinda sad..

Oh please she wasnt scrubbing her scalp the whole time she used it just later on so no that's not it. She is not the only one having these problems and washing your hair should not be so complicated. One wrong move and your hair is fried.

Sarah B Everytime someone has a bad experience they’re told they’re using it wrong. It’s shampoo. Also as a licensed cosmetologist and esthetician....our hair does not detox. It does not happen. If you want to remove buildup use a clarifying shampoo and it’s gone. What’s sad is that y’all just spit out whatever your upline told you to say without even looking into whether it’s true or not...then are insanely rude to the people who had bad experiences.

I’m a hairstylist for over 20+ years, in my salon we are sulfate free. These symptoms are a load of CRAP. When you spend that much money on products they should radiate results not be a pain in the neck. I recommend Amika that’s my favorite line EVER. Moroccan Oil, is my second favorite, and Pureology is the thirst best. And keep in mind I use these products all day long 10+ hours a day. And the results and the smile on my clients faces tells the real story. Check them out sweetie. Your hair is BEAUTIFUL and I don’t want you losing another strand. Also try the wet brush for tangles, he my FAVE is the Olivia Garden brush. ❤️

I've been using the products for 14 months now. Basically using up my products now. I agree. I bought these products to repair my hair. After 1 year I can say my hair is worse now than when I started. Tangles, dry, frizzy! Only finishing up my conditioners now. Looking forward to starting some better products now! Good to know I'm not alone in this opinion.

I had the worst detox and I have really oily hair. I used to have to wash my hair every other day, now I can go 3-4 days without washing. It’s amazing and a time saver.
Your market partner should have recommended that you try using either the black shampoo or the intense repair shampoo to speed up the detox process. You should have also been doing regular scalp treatments. I know it sounds weird because you and I both have oily hair, but it works. Adding oil helps moisturize your scalp. You wash it out, and it feels amazing.
As you use it, your hair tends to change also. Several months after finishing detox, my hair seemed to change. So I switched up my products.
Compared to salon products, it’s really not all that expensive for how much you get.
My hair is so much fuller and I have so much more volume. I can see the baby hairs growing in.
And the dry shampoo is a definite favorite. It gives my hair so much volume.

I think honest reviews are always welcome. Simply because the same product is not for everyone for whatever reason. This will help others who are going through the similar or same experience and it is not working for them. The same is happening with all body/face/hair products on the market. I am not going to even try it cause I am OK with the condition of my hair so far. I don't have holly HG products but they are just fine. Whatever we buy and use is at our own "risk" money wise and results as well. I think these products are pricey but if it is working for someone and they don't have to break the bank, by all means, go ahead. Our follicles, genes, skin, climate, diet, age, styling tools, medical condition,....are so different and unique so expecting the same product to be equally good or bad for everyone is kind of naive. But I very much appreciate personal, honest experience such as this one:)

Detoxification is an on going process that needs to happen in the body. If you’re suffering with extreme detox I would highly suggest looking internally what’s going on. I say this from a good place in my heart. I nearly died from mold illness and my body’s inability to detoxify properly on its own. I think many people understand detox as some kind of fad but they don’t understand it from a more medical perspective. Detoxification is so crucial to our survival and not having our DNA,, cells, tissues and organs damaged.

I loved your video, I know you made this video in 2017 but I started using Monat 4 months ago. Before I started my journey with Monat I watched videos and tried to inform myself about what I was going to get into. People talked about the "detox" and that it would only last a few weeks, but honestly for me is still there. As you said, my hair is good the day I wash it, but not the next day. My hair is falling out, and my scalp is so itchy!! I am considering buying a different shampoo and still use the oil and conditioner.

Literally tried 3 different “systems” that they make over a period of 10 months, I even used the hair masques, hyradtion serum, blow out cream, heat protectant, you name it I had it and used it CORRECTLY. I had to try 3 different systems bc each one seemed to make my hair worse & worse. The hairstylist who sold it to me convinced me that “it’s detoxing the buildup from your old shampoo it should stop in abt 3 weeks” my hair never stopped “detoxing” it was ripping off at the ends, and the roots to mid shaft were so dry and rough like hay almost, literally once I put the shampoo in it almost became impossible to scrub my hair it was almost like liquid cement on my hair, every time I called the hairstylist she came up with some dumb ass reason my hair was being destroyed by the product, which is why I switched 3 times, giving each 3 systems a fair trial period of 3 months. I’ve never cried so much in my life it’s taken me almost a year to get my hair back how it was before and it’s only halfway there. I even told the stylist “everyone’s hair is different maybe mine just isn’t compatible with monat” but she was so dead set on selling she had excuse after excuse. I know everyone has different outcomes with monat but as far as my hair is concerned FUCK THAT SHIT.

I definitely don’t think the product is for everyone. It works just fine on my hair personally, but I will say this: I have thick, curly African American hair. It’s not chemically treated in anyway, and even before I started using the stuff, I was very picky about what I put in my hair. My hair eats conditioner of all kinds like a sponge, so I have to shower and condition it every day. If I had a complaint about it, it’d be the pricing and the fact that monat comes in little bottles. I need at least 3- 5 squirts of the conditioner to satisfy my hair, and even then I use styling taffy with olive oil. So the bottles don’t last me 3 months, but more like 1.5-2 months. Cause I need to condition everyday regardless of what products I use.
I personally like how shiny and soft my hair is, but then again, I use it everyday.

Hey Destinee! Question for you. I haven't tried Monat yet, but I'm super skeptical. Do you think some of their products, like the Rejuvenique oil or the Rejuvabeads will work properly while using a different brand of high-quality products? Like you mentioned in the video, you may still use the Revitalize conditioner along with other salon products. I am wondering if I should order the Rejuvabeads to try along with other non-Monat products.
Love this video by the way! Very helpful!

I have been using the Rejuvenique Oil with my other non-Monat products and I haven't experienced any problems. I tried using the conditioner a few days ago just to see what happened and my hair was gross. I def think Monat doesn't work well with other products. Honestly, I would say just get the oil. You won't be disappointed! As for the whole system I would recommend going on eBay or finding a MP who can get you Monat samples to try... BEFORE you invest your money. Best of luck :)

After being a market partner with this company, I can tell y'all she is right!!! These products do not live up to the hype. Your hair will fall out, it will strip your color, it will dry your hair out and all Monat reps will ever tell you is that it's detox. No matter what the problem is, it's detox. And they use their 30 day money back guarantee as a selling point and the fact that their product return rate is like 1%. I CAN TELL YOU WHY..... 1) it takes 30 days to get through to customer service (okay not literally, but it is almost impossible to get through) and 2) if you do try to return the products, you're told it's s 90 day system so of course you're not getting desired results in 30 days.

melissa johnson I'm not now. I didn't know all this. I found out the hard way. These products worked wonders on my hair at first and I bought into all the hype too quickly. Then after using them for almost 2 months, the problems started. I'm just trying to warn others. The company won't refund my money and when the BBB cotagged them abkut my hair loss, they replied with how their products are naturally based but the fragrances have other ingredients that are regulation approved. Whatever that is supposed to mean. They never addressed the issues I complained about. Two paragraphs about fragrance and all the negativity on social media. I never once said anything about the ingredients other than these products are drying to your hair. And I never once mentioned reading or watching videos abkut thrm on social media.

I would get oily spots on the back of my scalp that just would not get clean no matter how many times I washed and it made me so mad because I was way past the determined detox period as well. I started using another cruelty and sulfate free shampoo and I haven’t had any problems since I quit Monat and my hair actually doesn’t fall out as much like Monat had claimed. I just came across this video to check out the review. It is an older video so I feel that her claims are from her experience and sure Monat has improved their products. Everyone's hair is different in my opinion. What works for one person may not work with someone else. Everyone knows what result they want to achieve with their hair. I have had nothing but problems with salon hair products and cheaper hair products. I don't mind spending $$ on products if they work like they claim they do. I was tired of just covering up my damaged hair and making it worse or just getting it all cut off to just be frustrated again. I have thick, wavy hair, and color all the time. My hair was so frizzy, dry, brittle, breaking, tangled. I hated using any kind blow dryer or heat irons on my hair but only way to get the frizz and fly aways tamed, but still was not happy with the results till I was introduced to MONAT products and my hair since day one has been healthier than it has been in years. People who know me have seen a huge difference in texture, shine and how much healthier it is. I just used 3 products and I am never going back to the other hundreds of products I used before. I had tons of products I didn't even use more than 3x that I had kept just in case I wanted to go back to them, which I never did. If you are reading this far.....just know that the other salon and cheaper products all contain wax, silicone, and plastic that keep building up in your hair. I didn't realize that till I was educated about this. My hair feels so clean, not stripped or any buildup of any kind. I don't feel any greasiness from these products. I wish I could show my before and after photo just from the first day of use.

I NEED ADVICE. I’ve been using MONAT for a month now. I have usually an oily scalp and frizzy hair. I was recommended to use the Revive Shampoo and the Volumizing Conditioner. First day? AMAZING. I looked like a totally different person. Everything went downhill after that. I experienced the very same greasy, rough, sticky texture in the back of my head as you did in your previous videos - I actually felt heard! I even started seeing dry scalp! I have had to keep my hair in a tie or bun for a month and honestly, I am feeling SO discouraged about my hair. I miss being able to style it and feeling good. Point is, I tried the 2-1 that someone recommended me and nothing. I have yet to try the Dawn dish soap. I have no idea what to do or use because at this point, I don’t know how much longer I can continue. If anyone has any sort of expertise on this, please provide me with either advice or suggestions on MONAT or other healthy products. I am feeling very defeated and need an answer.

I’ve been using Monat for 4 months and I am pretty sure I’m not over the detox either. Before using, the only shampoo I could use without getting severe dry scalp was Head and Shoulders. At first, it wasn’t a problem and now I have severe dry scalp using the Hydrate line. I just switched to the Black System and after the first wash it decreased severely but we shall see. I am shedding like crazy too and hoping it doesn’t continue. The oil is the best though and maybe used in combination it will eliminate my problems but I don’t want to have to buy the oil every time I run out because the products aren’t working by themselves. I’m glad I’m not the only one!!!

This is a late comment but I've been using Monat for almost two years and I do agree with some of the things u said.. I never had any detox in my head before so I'm a little curious with that one. But for me some of their shampoos don't always work for me and some do actually work. And my best pros from Monat is that they helped me alot of getting rid of my dandruffs since my scalp doesn't carry alot of natural oil and constantly dry. And Monat isn't great when it comes with non natural hair colors. I dye my hair alot and whenever I wash my hair (not every day) it takes out a bunch of the colors and makes it fade weirdly at times. And the cons for me is they are highly priced. Some product I understand why it's expensive and there's those other kind of stuff that we all question on why it's expensive. But I do love when they have good promotions stuff.

I have not found that to be true at all and I have not heard that from any of the friends that I've got to start using it. I have one person who has experience the hair growth like I prayed that she would have, but she's still hopeful. She is still on a cancer treatment so that may be why. There is a detox period that your hair may go through where you may loose more hair than normal, but I did not experience that. It took a little over the 90 days to see that my hair was not falling out quite as much as it had in the past. Hair loss is a natural thing so it won't stop completely, but the desire is to stop it from falling our prematurely. Hope this helps you and others reading this. I have a really hard time believing that the product "ruined" someones hair. But as I said before, everyone is different and there is NOT ONE product out there that is going to work for EVERY Woman- but again, I have had nothing but great remarks from people that I get to use the product-

My MP recommend two different sets I use my advance Advanced hydrating system and a restructured system it balances everything out so it doesn’t dry or over hydrate my hair. And you should wash your hair every other day. 🤷🏽‍♀️ May be she wasn’t educated enough by the person who she bought from. Not everything or everyone will react the same to the products.

Hi! I am not ready to stop using Monat but I am open to quit. The only issue was the tangles and dry hair. I decided to use my kerastace oil on the ends of my hair once every week or two. I had less hair fall-out after the detox stage and I wash every 2nd day now. I also find that I need more conditioner then the shampoo. I find with the shampoo, I need less of it to wash and that was after the detoxification and I don't need to wash for 3 minutes with every wash. I still can't get over my hair getting so dry on the ends.

    • @TheBohemianStyle
      @TheBohemianStyle 6 лет назад

I am over the detox and been on it a few months. The worst part of the detox was that my hair got so brittle and dry.
The tangles are less now that I wash every 2nd day. I use the IRT shampoo once a week, which I think is very drying for the hair. I really needed a conditioner with the IRT set (it doesn't come with a conditioner), and I'm on a budget, so to order a conditioner was out of the question. I used one pump of the leave-in conditioner and the oil.
Now, whenever I use the IRT shampoo, I use the hair mask. When I use the moisturizing shampoo, I use the leave-in conditioner and my hair is fine, but with the cold weather now, I have to add Kerastase oil on the ends of my hair.
My hair is not like yours. I have fine, not that much hair on my head due to thyroid issues.

    • @sarahb3548
      @sarahb3548 6 лет назад +1

Chris Harrison unfortunately you are using the products in correctly and that is why the dryness is happening. You are only supposed to use the masque once every 5-6 washes and always follow it with a conditioner. ALWAYS. the IRT shampoo is a maximum strength shampoo and should only be used on hair and scalp where there is severe thinning and balding. And if you have hair below your ears then a conditioner is a must. Have u tried their rejuveniqe oil?? I do weekly oil treatments on my scalp and ends with it and it has been my saving grace. It truly sounds like so many people aren't educating their vips on how to properly use the products and that is causing alot of issues. By overusing the masque you can do more harm then good. It is protein based, which is great for your hair, but too much of a good thing can be bad. I hope this helps. Maybe switching to the revive shampoo and adding in an actual conditioner will help tremendously . Contact your market partner that sold you the products and see if they can provide some samples.
