  • Lot of misinformation on furious howl going around so I decided to try and put an end to it. I know this video is dry, boring and probably won't get a lot of views, but I think it's an important topic for wow classic hunter.
    Skip to around 6:00 if you just want the conclusions.
    My throat is once again fakked.
    Any advice for how I can improve the vids? Post it in the comments! I'd love some feedback.

    Super interesting video, appreciate these breakdowns of hunter concepts that no one really seems to know the answer to! Another one of these that comes to mind is the "soft crit cap" or the general idea that beyond 25% crit (even for ranged) there are diminishing returns on damage. I personally dont think this is true since glancing blows only apply to melee, but most popular websites such as wowhead advise hunters to stay below 25% due to these diminishing returns. Would love to see some tests done on this since there are no good resources currently online.

      Ap-/crit value contribute to each other. The goal is to find a good balance with currently available gear (in p3-&p4)

      Hunter Classic: I heard there was a crit cap for hunters. Is that true?
      That's since been debunked as a myth. Crit and AP both have the same decline as suggested in the graph they have, and they're both linearly related to each other. Meaning per point of AP, the damage added from crit increases by the same amount at a given amount of AP, and the damage added from AP increases by the same amount per point of crit for a given percent of crit. This means that if you were to stack 1000 AP no crit, adding 1% crit would be worth 50-60 AP, or having 50% crit, 500 AP and adding 50 AP would be worth a lot more than just 50 AP.
      Bottom line is there is no "break point, or soft cap" where you want AP over crit or vice versa. The stat weights change based on the gear you have, higher AP means more value from crit because you hit harder and you crit harder. Higher crit means more value from AP because you crit more. There is a hardcap due to gear/enchants limitations however, around 64%.

      I've literally never heard someone say there was a crit cap.
      Either way, Sixx is probably the best numbers guy around, I'll pin this.

      @WatchYourSixx x you say large numbers of AP vs Crit, and say it's gear dependant, do you mean weapon dependent?
      Or does high end gear make a weaker dps weapon over preform?

    I appreciate this a lot. I don't know how long you've been at this but I have watched multiple of your videos and they help and I really think more people need to as well. Some hunters I play with need this knowledge. I need it too since being a utility class can make or break what people think of you as a player.

    I´ve just rolled my first hunter properly on classic era. I´ve learned some things with regards to hunter gameplay at max lvl
    1. You do NOT want a cat for pvp at max lvl unless you´re specifically playing as BM. The cat dies in 2 seconds from aoe hits/spells and the harass you think you will cause with a quick attackspeed is usually mitigated by slows, snares, immobalizing effects etc. Which leads into my second conclusion.
    2. In pvp at max lvl as a mm/survival hunter, you want a pet with a good health or armor pool. Dmg is secondary for pvp. The better ur pet scales with armor and health, the less you need to train ur pet in natural armor and such, and instead focus on the resistances. This in turn will make ur pets uptime on casters better and thus the harass will be more reliable.
    3. For the 2 reasons above, there are 3 pets that comes to mind instantly: Wolfs (they grant about 100dmg spread over 3 shots when standing next to you which aint much but it´s smthing, they have a good armor modifier and their dmg is okay), Boars(tanky and has interrupt), Carrion birds (Have better modifiers for pvp than bats and owls, can learn both bite and claw, can learn dive and screech and there are versions with 1.2 atk speed which is good considering they are on par with wolfs on dmg and tankyness but they bring a different kind of utility to the table, mainly for rogues).
    4. Cats aren´t good. They scale good on dmg but their dmg is redundant at max lvl unless ur bm. They are squishy and must focus their Tp on tankiness. They bring no utility at all when not on target whereas wolfs buffs dmg slightly, carrion birds screech rogues and druids out. Brokentooth is in other words not good tbh. It´s better to get a zg bat, at least they will survive slightly longer due to their debuff on target.
    I´m keeping a cat for raids, a wolf for pvp and a carrion bird for situational/prem bgs. Also considering a gorilla because of the drip they bring.

    I was always skeptical toward any infos about wolf and FH. Every questions I had regarding Wolf has always been answered by "Get a Cat". I didn't ask for pet advices, but for answers !
    Thank you so much for this video man ! Now what I'm wondering is if it's better to use FH for Aimed + Auto + Multi while being at close range (since, from what I understood, travel time matters) or if I should just force the FH when I melee weave-in.
    You encouraged me to do testings myself, will see how it goes with melee weaving.

    Is it possible to assume it buffs other physical classes the same way? Your data doesnt seem to match with Sixx's and some others' research. Not sure, but there might be other variables at play. What I do know for sure is that the personal dps gain from using raptor-/cat is greater than 4 melees benefiting from howl, as the wolf has lower dps than the raptor and the cat.

    • @Bigbobbedboi
      @Bigbobbedboi  4 года назад +1

      So the issue with howl isn't that it's lower dmg than a cat. It actually would be more dmg by quite a bit. 51 dmg every 10 seconds = 5.1 dps X 5 party members = 25.5 dps (minus armor) from a full party getting howled, PLUS the double and triple dipping hunters can get from howl. You're not going to get the double dipping meleeing, we get it because of the travel time of our shots.
      The dmg difference between wolf and cat is 10% so... your pet would need to be doing 250 dps for that to be even.
      The problem is howl's range sucks. Even in a melee group and you weaving, it's not necessarily going to hit everyone. Meaning, you're not getting 25.5 dps from howl.. you may be getting 5.1 or 10.2 etc
      The real question is, what is the break point that makes wolf the best dps pet? 2 targets getting consistently howled? 3? 4? I would say it's 3.

    • @Felzx
      @Felzx 4 года назад +1

      @@Bigbobbedboi Many people use the wolf primarily for the buff though, having it run out and in, which reduces it's own dps uptime in order to ensure that it survives long enough to keep on doing the howl, so deciding an estimated uptime on the pet's dps is a factor that should be considered.
      Wdym it has a small range? It has 30 yds. Does this mean 15 yds radius from the pet? Would you please elaborate a bit about the double-/triple dipping? Seems like with it, it could be beneficial.
      3.40 why aimed-multi-auto? I thought howl only affects the next attack as it says in the tooltip, but you say with double-/triple dipping more is possible? :o Not sure how the normal rotation relates to the question of how the attacks are influenced by howl except showing that it boosts aimed even if used during the cast, but this could also be proven by only casting aimed aside from the double dip question. Very interesting nontheless, would love more info on how to create this scenario. Does it benefit from being in max range or could 7 or 14 yards be enough?
      Yes; Cats and raptors do 1.1 damage, wolf and some others do 1.0, bats, owls, spiders and wind serpents do 1.07.
      My cat does around 80 dps and looking back at logs where I used wolf it did around 0-20 dps depending on how much uptime it had and also cutting out bite from the rotation to make sure howl could be manually used each cooldown.
      Maybe another variable to consider would be if for Alliance the howl scales with kings and how it compares to windfury on hordeside. Since hunter abilities add a flat amount instead of scaling with gear, I would assume its more beneficial for the horde. Do you know if the same conclusion that you showed how howl benefit yellow hits for hunters also work the same for other classes' abilities? What are your thoughts?

    • @Felzx
      @Felzx 4 года назад +1

      @@Bigbobbedboi I appear to have misremembered. Sixx agrees with you on all these points: FH boosts all attacks white as well as yellow, howl can benefit Aimed even if used during the cast, double-/triple is possible/tooltip is wrong in saying "next attack" (meaning that more than one attack can benefit from howl because of the distance to the target.)
      Would love to hear more about how you think that this double-/triple dipping could be optimized.

    ? if using a wolf with howl. normal playing isn't your pet out of range for you to get the effect. i try to stay just within mend pet range. in raids usually max range. with some tier 1 gear mend pet range the expanded by 50percent. just asking great video. i like the owl for the most part with screech 100ap off the mobbs has to help everyone. little input would be great. Please everyone be nice and just a question. learning. thank you again for the video

    • @Bigbobbedboi
      @Bigbobbedboi  3 года назад

      Yes if you're standing that far back you will be out of range.
      You would only be in range if you're melee weaving and even then it's not guaranteed.

    Just from playing, I'm almost 100% sure howl will also buff an auto shot EVEN AFTER YOU SHOOT ALREADY as long as it hasn't hit the target yet. I have howl macro'd to my aimed shot, but it almost always will buff the white hit before the cast goes off

    • @117dude

      That is what he proved in the video. In the video he was able to buff 3 attacks. As long as you shoot all 3 before the 1st one hits the target.
