In this case the title was accidently misleading. The original FF9 version of the song is a bit faster and almost entirely guitar driven as you would expect from the title.
Jeah i also prefer the FF9 Version (nothing wrong the 14 version is also great) but you already mentioned it the FF9 Version is closer to the Flamenco Vibe. Also they uses Nylon Guitar there
@@Hwyadylaw I prefer the IX version mostly for nostalgia and the scene is up there with the best openings in gaming, in no small part thanks to that track. The scene also presents the idea of a medieval type setting and I think the attempt in the music was to reflect that.
I actually got to see this one performed live via distant worlds. (The FF9 version). I've been waiting for this one, since you've mentioned you like Flamenco quite a few times,
Aaah, this track ♥ It was originally in FF9 and then remixed for 14 which made me really hyped because until now, 9 is still the only other FF I've played. And the scene that went with this in FF9 was just very fun :D and it's great to see how much fun you had with this as well! I also love how you immediately went to play it for a bit because it sounds so great having just the guitar!
from what I barely remember of the XIV Dancer questline, they are a travelling dance troupe who dance to bring happiness to the people who watch their shows (in a nutshell). So yeah, I can see it being a theme of travelling, going to places far and wide, all sorts of regional destinations and city centres too :) thanks again for your react!
in FFXIV lore, dancer comes from the country of Thavniar, which is based mostly off of India Vama'Alla Flamenco originally came from FFIX, i think. it played during a performance by the main characters who are part of a theatre troupe. i think that was one of the reasons why the song was used instead of an original, other than it being catchy. the group that teaches you how to be a dancer is Troupe Falsiam, a traveling dance troupe who bring hope and happiness to everyone with their dance. background scenery of the fight is in La Noscea, off the coast of Costa Del Sol. probably the most beautiful beach location in FFXIV.
Originally I never knew that the first instance of this track was played in FFIX. I played FFXIV through entirely and then I went through and streamed FFIX because a friend gifted it to me, I love FF games so I wanted to - and then this came on, I was super happy. I love the remade version here, though I think I do like the IX version most. Also, I do not blame you in the slightest for humming along. I do too.
0:50 As a Spanish person I can say that the words alone separated means what you guessed. However together is an expression that translates to just _let's go_ and we used in music like: cmmon start clapping/dancing a "sevillana"/"taconea" with your feet on the ground to the beat... stuff like that. Is written in "andaluz" a dialect from Andalucía, the land of flamenco, the south of Spain. That is considered an... uncultured broken Spanish for a lot of people, to be honest. In my opinion "captúo" is even more broken in comparison, "andaluz" is understandable at least. Glad you liked the song. It made me feel special when I played the FF9 game, that someone in Japan enjoyed flamenco and included it.
Well the dancing troupe in 14 is from a region based on India. They are the ones that play the song canonically as the theme to the dancers and the "guitar" is supposed to be in game a traveling harp instead of guitar
Ahhhh, so THIS is the name of the song that I heard. This plays alot in the job story quests for Dancer. I recently picked up DNC and leveled it so I got to do the 60-70 quests and this song played a few times.
Ahh finally FF9 on this channel! I was hyped to learn that Flamenco was in FF14 though, and took me a while to realise it was part of the Dancer quests. I miss the guy shouting "Vamo alla Flamenco!", but still nice to hear it, since FF9 is my favourite game. Still hoping for more tracks to be arranged from 9 as there's a lot of bangers.
I think it's Uematsu shouting it. I was on one of many FF/Black Mages video binges, and you get to hear him a bit because he talks to the audience between songs. No idea what he says, but the audience is charmed and it's hard not to be as well in spite of being lost on the language lol Anyway, give both a close listen and see what you think, I swear it's him 🤷♀️
Just found your channel an hour ago and am currently on the binge train for your videos XD btw ya want some more ffxiv recommendations? No? Ok, here you go 💖: ●Insatiable, Shadowbringers Boss theme ●On Blade's Edge (or Mid Boss theme) from Endwalker ●Close In The Distance, Jason Charles Miller does the vocals. It also, depending on what vid you watch for your reaction, may or may not have Endwalker story spoilers so I would recommend a lyric video or something instead of something with gameplay. Keep up the great work!!
One neat thing, is the melody of this is actually a variation on "La Folia", a classic sort of melody in European folk music that is >400 years old. See also: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folia Vivaldi's take on the classic ol' tune is another pretty well known example: ruclips.net/video/7v8zxoEoA_Q/видео.html
Originally composed by Nobuo Uematsu back in FFIX, and arranged by Yukiko Takada for FFXIV. She's made quite a lot of tracks for FFXIV and her works tend to be the more chill or lively type like this. A lot of the field themes in the game are hers too.
This song seems to take inspiration from a fandango like the Malagueña which is more traditional Spanish flamenco music, compared to a more gypsy like Flamenco ; which can be heard with an orchestra at times, or Alegrias (Manolo Sanlucar- Fantasia [alegrias] (as you know) but of course we clearly hear the Andalusian cadence but resolved in E maj phrygian dominant.
Romani would be the accurate term, g*psy was used an an insult for them and a misconception about where they were from, it's a term that was used for too long like Indian was for native americans. I hope I don't come off as accusatory, I just wanted to make fact known.
@@MegaVideoman23 depends, romani came from specific area of the world while others were more of Arabic descent. It used to be a derogatory term but i don't hear many so called gypsies having a problem with it because flamenco in it's more "tribal form" comes from a multi faceted number of cultures, not only Romani but Byzantine, Moorish. Flamenco is more definitely an Andalusian origins rather than Romani or any other who contributed to it. Many people of gitano or non guitano culture play it in bodas etc. So yeah the term gypsy might have started as some type of discriminatory term but I do think certain peoples like the Romani were more targeted as a slur in the past compared to what it means today as part Spanish culture. Don't worry I don't see you being combative but just different types of what we call "gypsy" perceive the word differently I tend to call Romani by that term or Roma as they are in certain countries
If you were bad at a particular minigame in FFIX, you heard this song loop approximately 200 times before you even really got into the game. Still love it, though.
I'd love to hear your opinion on the original version of this piece from FFIX. FFIX's music in general is amazing and Uematsu actually considers that music to be his magnum opus. I highly recommend giving "You're Not Alone" from the same game a listen, as well. Easily my favorite piece of music in that game.
That one KILLS me! Oh my god, that scene for "You're Not Alone" is among the most heart-wrenching things, the existential horrors swimming around Zidane's mind and the overwhelming feeling of futility. POWERFUL. The DW version hits a different way, but it gets you hard too. Give "Terra" from XIV a listen - "Fantasy Reborn"'s rendition of it on apple music will take your breath away, and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. The whole album's beautiful piano arrangements of FF pieces, but that one... God.
@@peggieschafer485 I feel like focusing on the existentialism misses the whole point of that scene. Zidane is at his lowest. He's questioning who and what he is and pushing his friends away. And as he keeps getting attacked by monsters while in this state, two by two his friends show up to help him, because they refuse to take him pushing them away lying down. Like the title of the piece states: he's not alone.
This song was half the reason I played FF9 after FF14, even though it has a very small part. It's also perfect as the introduction to the Dancer class.
Love the orginal from FF9 so surprised to hear how faithful this one is...it's one of those updates that doesn't mess with what worked and i already love it. great analysis too and dope demo at the end
The original is from FF9, which is probably a bit closer to what you're expecting (though I'm a noob who can't tell for sure) and it is VERY catchy. On that note you should check out You're Not Alone from 9.
Vamo' Alla Flamenco... it's a phrase used in South American Spanish, where the listeners are cheering on the Flamenco musicians (usually guitarist) to speed up the tempo, in essence it's a ""LETS GOOOO!!" hype chant from the crowd.
The second part of the video, where the fight takes place. Is right next to a beach resort called Costa Del Sol. Do what you want with this info, but you mentioned region.
there is a black mages version of this one a bit more on the metal side but has a sick nilon solo, i can ony imagine fusing this version with those nilon fragments of the black mages
yeah, while the ff9 version is still more iconic I do like this one myself. As you've noticed the music in 14 likes to twist things around, in this case the Dancer job unlock uses an alternative inspired addition to it due to the backstory of the class :) As for the scenery, the area is Costa Del Sol, an area in La Noscea which you can do regular questing in from the very start of the game. The area is on a beautiful coastline with cliffs and waterfalls. (The first area in the cutscene video was in a major city in game, Limsa Lominsa). Have a good day, Jesse!
