One of my early carpenter job , 1972, was a lake house finished with red pine. Beautiful. We first covered the studs with 18# black roof paper. Then didn’t worry too much if a knot dried out and fell or a crack developed because the result was a black void. Great wind stop and good results with the rustic look.

Mike here in the southeast there’s lumber companies such as Jordan Lumber who own massive amounts of land and predominantly all they grow is pine for lumber products. Most all homes nowadays are framed up in pine. Yeah it’s a softer wood and don’t hold up to weather untreated like Oak and other hardwoods. But it’s an excellent building lumber indoors or anything going to be covered. It’s also great building lumber for outdoors if its treated, painted or burned in the Japanese method of preservation. Have a good weekend Morgan’s 😁👍🏼

Good morning Morgan's from the Gulf Coast ! my dad work at a sawmill where I grew up .In the old days , they milled hardwood. In the early 70's ,they shut down the hardwood mill. When I graduated High School in 1972 , I worked there stacking green pine. The sawmill was buying green yellow pine, this is what we have down here ,from a local sawmill. The mill my dad worked at would resaw to length. It was stacked by what was called a separator which was ran by a chain and was about 300 ft long. A man would fed the lumber from the local sawmill onto a conveyer to a guy who ran the resaw. It was pedal operated with cables that would fling a saw up and cut the lumber. The lumber would be dripped in a solution that keep pest from ruining the lumber. From there ,it would go to a man ,who would load the lumber into separator according to the width and length. Once the lumber was stacked it was taken to waiting area where another guy would prepare the carts to pushed into a steam operated kiln for like a week . Some of the lumber would air dry for like 90 days. My dad always said the prettiest pine lumber was air dried.

There are a few things on my dream list, but those two truck loads of lumber would be right up there. A woodworker NEVER has enough lumber. I would love to turn my back yard into a giant lumber rack. I wonder if they make a lumber guard dog.

I had a pond built back in 2000 and I cut 200 trees down that would have all been underwater. I had a friend bring his Wood Mizer Mill up and we cut 8500 board feet of wood. I still have 2500 boar foot in the barn. I got Basswood, Red Elm, Ash, Pin Oak, Hickory and One Walnut. It only cost me 13 cents a board foot to cut it all up. I drug the logs up with my old Massey Harris 101 Jr. tractor made in 1946. It took up two weekends working Fridays and Saturdays to get it all done. I like watching you cut lumber up.

Mike. so glad you were able to get something done after the rain. Its really hard to believe as I know I have heard you say before in other videos, yeah it rained all day yesterday and I am out here working today. Here in East Tennessee if it rained all day one day, we would need sunshine and maybe some wind and 3 days before we could even think about getting out a piece of power equipment unless you wanted to walk in mud everywhere. It takes days and days to dry out here when it rains. I guess that shale you guys have really makes a huge difference. We have Limestone everywhere in huge chunks so the water takes forever to go into the ground. I am kind of jealous as we know after a big rain, we are going to lose 3 or 4 days of work because of it. Have fun good sir. Saw that beautiful lumber rain or shine!!!!

HI Mike I ran the numbers on how much lumber you can get from 9000 board feet. That’s 30,830 2x4s 8 ft long! I used the dimensions for 2x4s that are actually 1.5x3.5 that are commonly sold in stores as 2x4s and that’s $106,980 if buying from a big box store. Also 9000 board ft is 13,209 4x4s 8 ft long! Using the 3.5x3.5 dimensions commonly sold in stores for 4x4s and that’s $182,548 if buying from a big box store. I recently got a small sawmill and have a video using it on my channel too. Money in the bank!

Lots of boards isn't it, you can do many things. I think your right, Mike, that red pine would look great in the Cabin rough sawn. I think you said, the kiln will be in in a month or so? If so you could air dry then kiln dry the siding, to finish it up, if you wanted. O btw, can you use red pine for pizza wood? We have Southern Yellow Pine, here in SE Texas and it isn't used for any type of fire wood or cooking. Just wondering about Red Pine. :)

There is a app called counting things that works pretty good for counting the number of board when you have a stack or whole unit of lumber. It might be good for other thing also. Good morning Mike
I'm down in the lower 48,. Fl. to be exact. Yellow pines are everywhere here. Red pine not so much. I'll get to my point. I have a manual band mill and the sap really gums up the blade.
We are down here in cotton country and can get cotton spindle cleaner right readily. You don't need but a few ounces per tank full to keep it clean. ( Set the flo to just a dribble)
The problem with diesel fuel is it will ruin your band wheel tires (belts) not to mention the mess it makes.
I'm like you, do with this information what you will. Just putting it out there. Wish you and the family the best BTW
That is a nice load of logs.

My yellow pine in Florida isn't worth cutting with my bandmill. The blade wants to follow the soft wood around harder areas, so I get wavy boards no matter what I do. Live oak, on the other hand, cuts much easier than I expected, though it moves a lot when drying.

For the orange mug you need a Dodge charge from the 1970's the year of the Duke of Hazard car.
I would start to possess all of the lumber instead of contracting it out to another business to do the inside of the cabin but have that business do all of the trees and build how you want on the inside of the cabin .
Although I know that you are going to do what you want to do!
In any case, enjoy what you are going to do this year, and great endeavor for the year.
Why not try some trapping this year down at the cabin for this year?

Good Morning Mike some videos ago, you had an attachment for the front of skid steer. You used it to connect to the ball hitches on your machines. You never really showed it to us, could really use something like that to help me move machines in my yard. Really like to know brand and where you purchased it. Love videos been watching since video 100.

Hey Mike this has to do with your last video about the stickers. Did you ever think about doing multiple thicknesses? I mean you could do 1/4”,1/2,9/16,3/4 and 1” boards to get multiple sizes. I don’t know how wide your saw could go but think about how many stickers you could get. I don’t know how many stickers your saw can handle at one time. But you can build a box that can support your stickers and you can just slide them down and keep cutting. Just my thought thanks for listening.

I look forward to your video in morning, with my cup of coffee, I didn’t start drinking coffee till I was 42, love it. Guess the worse thing about it is the sugar.

Rough cut lumber I think looks just as good if not better especially in your cabin.

I had just got back from a hurricane clean up and was hired to take down a bunch of pine trees inside a horse race track. I took the trees to a local sawmill. The job was a little over $300 (1981) and the lumber cost $300. The lumber to build my house was almost free. Have fun and stay!

Pretty much the same scenario with coffee and me. Tried it when I was a teenager, didn't think much of it, and haven't had a cup since. Many of my friends live on it. A little coffee ice cream once in awhile is about it for me. Tea is my hot drink choice.

What do you consider red pine? The most pines we have in VA we call Virginia Pine/Spruce Pine and then we have Loblolly Pine. One of the property’s I hunt has about 50 acres of Loblolly that are huge. It would take about 3 men to wrap arms all the way around them. Beautiful wood for sure!
