      That's because Brexit only has problems and no benefits, at least in reality. This may be perceived differently by some individuals, but serious real life problems are typically discussed on the basis of reality, not illusions.

You think London would allow the EU to touch that..... here's a history lesson for you London has been a power house since the fall of Rome. The Empire didn't end it transformed. They will be a push to a Commonwealth union after we leave the EU that way London can keep taking money from Africa and stop China moving in (they have built military and police bases in Africa) and messing around with the wealth the Elite steal. We have so many complex ties to EU, it is impossible to just cut those ties quickly & cleanly without huge disruption to the English, Scottish, Welsh & Irish economies. • @bierrollerful
      @bierrollerful 4 года назад

      According to some, another referendum would go against the results of the first referendum and thus be undemocratic ("hold votes until you get the result you want").
      Then there is the issue that people are so fed up with the current situation and just want to get it over with, which could make another referendum 'unfair' and not in the spirit of things.
      On top of that Brexit is a REALLY COMPLICATED matter, meaning you cannot expect the average person to get a full grasp of it all - how can you somebody vote in good conscience if they do not know what the consequences of their vote will be.
      And finally... there is the question on *what* the referendum should be about.
      Revoke vs leave with a deal? Hardline brexiteers are unhappy.
      Revoke vs no deal? Moderate leavers are unhappy.
      Deal vs no deal? Remainers are unhappy.
      Revoke vs deal vs no deal? Everyone is unhappy because votes will be split.
      Should it be legally binding or only advisory (like the first)?
      When is it going to be held; before or after an election?
      Is there even enough time to hold one?
      Lot's of questions. No answers. Welcome to Brexit land.

You belong to a great Kingdom that will survive and prosper whatever happens, be it a Brexit without a deal. Of course, if this is indeed the final outcome of the EU-UK negotiation, we will all have to brace for serious turbulences but they will only represent an epiphenomenon. In fact, I believe that these turbulences could even be greatly attenuated if you put a qualified PM at the helm of the Kingdom. I am not completely convinced that M. Johnson is the right man for such a task but I might be wrong and I am certainly not in the best position to judge that; the point is that the quicker you recover from the initial shock, the better for you and us. In the longer term, the wealthier the UK will become, the better for the EU as well. Your future prosperity will never be a threat for the cohesion of the Union because its existential quest has nothing to do with wealth.More anecdotally, I must confess that, as an aerospace engineer, I also find it a bit strange that nobody seems to care about the fact that some of the Aerospace Industry key players will want to relocate on the continent if the UK leaves the EU without a deal. For reasons which are apparently not obvious to everyone, this particular Industry is inclined to consider any attempt to hamper its supply chains as a mortal threat. However it is probably a detail, at the scale of the British Economy - it would certainly not be so, at the scale of the French Economy. Anyway, one can have no doubt in the capacity of your Kingdom to compensate this loss by developing other highly profitable sectors; the UK is and will remain a World Power.And, voilà, that’s it. We will continue to move forward on our respective trajectories. We will obviously remain Friends and Allies because the UK is not going to drift away from the European continent. In one century, the Union territory will extend from Lisbon to Vladivostok. The Army of the Union will be in charge of guaranteeing Peace on the largest emerged land of the planet, in total accordance with the will of its founding fathers (amongst whom, Sir Winston Churchill). This is the natural course of History. Obviously, drastic reforms will have to be undertaken, but there is no other way out, since we need Peace and since we are willing to impose it. Needless to say, the UK will be welcomed to rejoin the Union at any time and without any condition, if it happens to be the wish of the British People.The only thing that could threaten our Friendship is a UK ultranationalist government trying to demolish the EU project from the outside. Considering the level of hatred toward the EU that I perceive in the words of a few British ultranationalists, this hypothesis cannot be entirely ruled out. However, such a heedless attempt would be bound for defeat because its perpetrators would have failed to comprehend the fundamental reason that was at the origin of the EU project, that is to say, PEACE. If you do not fully comprehend this yourself, go visit the Verdun military cemetery, or the Étaples British military cemetery - these brave British soldiers have now become sons of France, by the Blood Spilled. These places are haunting all the minds, young and old. Once you have wandered around these rows and rows of crosses and unless you are not completely indifferent to human suffering, you never remain completely the same; sometimes their mere existence hits you back while you are living happy times and it ruins your day in a few seconds. I let you imagine how they have invaded the souls of the nearby towns’ inhabitants. These places are obscene reminders of what has been, a few decades ago, war on the continent.These same ultranationalists - be they British or continental European - will tell you that Peace was not the reason for which the founding fathers did create the European Union and that Peace is only maintained by nuclear warheads. My answer to these enraged people is that I am proud to belong to the People of France, a Nation armed to the teeth and resolutely ready to have any irresponsible revisionist answer for his acts before a Court of the Republic.Therefore and because of the imperious necessity of maintaining Peace and Stability on the continent, any attempt by an ultranationalist UK government to destroy the European project from the outside could and would not be tolerated; the reaction of the Union would be so coercive in nature that it would brutally force these fools to recover their senses.Fortunately, I believe that the risk of seeing such a scenario unfolding is almost nil because the British people will never forget what their soldiers were fighting against, in 39-45. After the Brexit, the great People of the UK will undoubtly recover the phlegm, the pragmatism and the politeness that the entire world has always been envying and admiring. Everybody, you and us, will then fully integrate the fundamental interests we have in cooperating on the right terms. Long life to the European Union-British Friendship.

Dis-united Kingdom, with no extra money for the NHS, factories closing, and a shrinking service sector (so less tax, so less money for services, so more austerity)...
      Oh, and even fewer shops to spend what little you have left in!

      LLT Collection why dont they go with open borders in Ireland. Have everything checked in the Irish Sea. Then all they have to do is onboard the ships, which take a few hours of sailing, the UK can check the cargos & allow goods from NI manufacturers duty free into England.

    Does anybody have anything to say on what they said? They put out all the problems of the backstop which should have been publicised before the referendum. For any other country to leave the EU it's relatively simple. For UK leaving the EU risks bringing the The Troubles back. The adult thing to do would have been to remain and make eu work better if you are not happy with it. Bit too late for that now.

    This is so insightful. I now see no landing zone in sight. In theory leaving NI in the Single Market would work but only if Britain maintained regulatory equivalence. NI in, Britain out can work for goods but not services. Otherwise how could say an architect, a vet or a lawyer train in NI then go to work in UK?

    • @philipocarroll
      @philipocarroll 4 года назад

      @Benghali In Platforms Pure bullshit. The whole concept of the Belfast Agreement is the principle of consent. i.e. one side of community does not drag the other into an arrangement without majority in both communities. Allowing the DUP to decide the irrevocable future of Northern Ireland against the will of the majority is tantamount to tearing up the Belfast Agreement. This is anti democratic in the extreme. A referendum in NI on remaining in the Single Market would pass by a majority in both communities.

  • @peterstill3760

    There is no need for an Irish backstop if the border controls are made in English ports as they should be since it is a lot easier than at the physical border with the Republic. The closed container idea is not just moronic, it’s like a dumb joke. Oh well, the DUP would not support checks at ports. And Boris is giving the DUP the keys to Ireland. Seriously ? I say dump the DUP, get such a deal through parliament and call for new elections. The DUP played so much against Northern Ireland and for Brexit that they’ll get levelled out at a general election.

    If from the 27 EU countries one gonna reject the extension in that case Uk gonna fall out without no deal. If Boris made a deal behind the scenes with Hungary in that case Boris is probably gonna ask for an extension as a tactic and when the EU countries gonna vote with one veto Uk will fall out from the EU without a deal. With that tactic Boris don`t have to worry about the House of Commons, with simply one single veto gonna kick Uk out from the EU.

  • @Macorian

    Sorry James, the whole for Britain to be in the EU was economical. Britain never shared the political vision of the EU. It was Britain that essentially just made the EU into a common market and nothing else. So naturally talk is about that. These are the essential questions for actual people working and living in NI and elsewhere... it's not getting "hung up"... BTW, sorry for your bad hang over at the interview - must have been painful from the looks of it.
