I think the japanese metal community in the west is way more tight knit, whatever band that plays a show you will mostly find familiar faces again and again, we're here for the music after all and that's a thing that all have in common, and i think that's great overall and makes the shows even more exciting when you have people around you're familiar with
@@joeseconi250 its like this in the online groups as well. its great to connect with people who understand the appeal of the Japanese metal scene and "get it" like we do
@@nao_tomori it’s just really cool that so many people love this music and really feel the need to share it with the world. I’m in a unique position to have a platform that enables me to show these bands to people that may never have heard of them. And once these people discover the community that supports these bands they feel welcomed and want to share these bands with the world as well.
Thanks Alan! I saw them in Toronto. I had a blast! Great show. Lots of energy. I was first in line. My buddy was with me, and decided to go for a walk. He had just left when I saw the girls crossing the street from the other direction. They had been out shopping. While I was standing there, around the corner comes Matsuri to see if the front doors were open. As she'starts to walk away she notices me with my shirt and said hi. Instantly I'm in heaven! Also at the show I got a personally autographed drum head cover. Yukina wrote my name on it. Jonathan Lane and Itchie from Japan were along the rail with us. I would most defiintely go see them again! 😃🤘
I saw them in Toronto 2 nights later. It was total bedlam and so much fun. They are just a power house of raw energy and they definitely demand your full attention. I wish they would have played longer. Thanks Alan!
The fact that they which a collaboration with Electric Callboy before the craziness with Baby Metal and EC began, is amazing. At his time I guess their wish will not be unheard.
Alan, I'm so jealous you got to meet and interview Hanabie. Great interview. I'm going to see them with Jinjer in Baltimore in late September, can't wait to see them live.
I did not find this until now (2024-06-25). Your meeting is surreal indeed. What an amazing contribution of you to take us close to these incredible ladies. What a vibe they give, it comes over the internet through my computer display. To watch them that close: awesome. To me, they are heroines of Metal. Thank you so much for this! 🙂 GER
I remember the first Hanabie music video I saw on RUclips. They just leapt off the screen. Next level. Mesmerising. Feels special to be a fan. Much love and respect from Australia.
This was so much fun! Alan you are welcome to join me whenever you want because your energy is infectious and makes my job so much more fun. And most of all thank you to Hanabie for treating us like we were old friends. Stay tuned for the Fox version of the interview.
Had the pleasure of seeing them in Norway this summer, and it was one of the best experiences EVER! The energy, the music, the girls, the fans! ALL top notch!
I had the same experience seeing Hanabie in Tokyo just last week. Everything is even better live and yes peolep we're crowd surfing all the time. I got feet knocking my head down I think at least ten times
Definitely want to see an Electric Callboy collab here. If Babymetal can pull it off like a boss. Just wait till Hanabie shows up to play. Can't believe i missed them in Vegas. Was there just a week ago to see XG. Then find out Hanabie just played at the House Of Blues Great interview here though. :)
Good work guys, with the fan interviews, band interview, show review and then closing thoughts of the fans and newcomers, really well done and structured.
It's still just wild to see these all women, Japanese metal and rock bands. They have such good stage presence, tons of talent, and clever use of English to make foreign fans feel included. Then you realize the overwhelming majority of them are 5'4" and under. Hell, more of Lovebites is under 5' than over.
When I was in high school, people, even other metal heads, thought it was weird I was listening to Dir en Grey because the language barrier. But its screaming so I wouldnt understand it either way. I absolutely love seeing just how much the western metal community has embraced the Japanese metal scene. Truly some phenomenal music coming out of Japan.
To think that I only heard about these ladies a little after the turn of the new year. Unfortunately, the timing and distance from where I live didn't work out to seeing them this time around the U.S. Hopefully, they'll come again to the states at some time in the next year or two. Outside of that, it looked like an excellent show.
Great questions! can't wait for the full interview! I love the crowds at Hanabie shows always so much energy, the girls feed off it and it makes the experience very enjoyable. So glad they played Ghost mania and LCG, those were some of the songs I was hoping they'd play.
Great stuff! It seems to be the case for most, if not all of these female Japanese rock acts, that the live experience is THE WAY to go! It has been true of Babymetal, Hanabie, Band-Maid, and Otoboke Beaver for me. Every show was SO MUCH FUN! I can hardly wait for LOVEBITES in ATL!!! I was so sad to miss TsuShiMaMiRe very recently. Their new song 24030 is so good! Hopefully some other Asian based acts will come passing through soon as well.
Awesome video start to finish 👍 Thanks for your good interview questions and rapport with the ladies as seemed like they really enjoyed their time with you. 🎉
Damn! I was going to go to the New Haven show (I live in CT), but my daughter sang the national anthem at a pro baseball game that night. Thanks for sharing!!!
My bud came with me after he asked who I was going with, and when I said "just myself" he was like "I'm coming along". He never heard them before and did not look them up. He really enjoyed their energy. It was awesome! Correction though, Alan, you said they played Sentimental Heroine last, I'm sure it was LCG, you've got me checking my videos, lol - you can hear the "SNS" lyrics of the song clearly. They were asking the crowd what they wanted at the end, so I guess they changed from their planned set.
i saw them in winnipeg last night and man oh man. THEE best show i’ve ever been to hands down. the crowd was absolutely amazing as well. wishing nothing but the best for these amazing girls 💜🥹🤘
I see many peeps following you commented about Toronto concert. I agree with you Alan, they sound so much better live. Loved their entire set and yes, there were so many mosh pits and that wall of death was amazing and really respectful. We also sucked at Miso Soup dance, most didn't know what to do haha. It seems many either knew one or two songs or none at all, but everyone really loved it. The energy of the four members: Yukina, Matsuri, Hettsu and Chika was great and I'll be honest Hettsu looks very pretty in person. I think Chika fits in nicely after Sea left. As for the other two bands Outline in Color and Left to Suffer, they were not bad. I actually had fun and enjoyed their performance. I'd rather not go and compare them with Hanabie. We all know who was miles away. I felt their mix wasn't the best, but that might be just me. PS. I was the only one with Lovebites T-shirt, many had BabyMetal or Hanabie. And I know many who went there also went to BabyMetal concert in Toronto. Not sure how many went to Scandal. If Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila were to grace their musicianship in Toronto, I'd be buying the ticket immediately. One OK Rock will be here in October, so if I can I'll go.
Yesterday we got the sweet sweet gift of Baby Metal and Electric Callboy collab, Now we *might* get one with Hanabie too? That's too much good stuff at once. Need some breathing room here
One thing I find interesting is how old a lot of the crowd is. Just an observation considering I'm 50 and saw them in NYC last year. I incorrectly assumed us geezers would be less open minded about a band like Hanabie. I also wonder how they feel about me always calling them a cross between Hatebreed and Hello Kitty?

I asked my Japanese friend why Japanese artists (or Asian artists in general) will use English lyrics occasionally in their music. His thought was that sometimes it flows better with the music. But Hanabie also confirmed that it probably has a lot to do with accessibility with an English speaking audience. Fun interview. I saw them in Denver last year and about to see them in Portland. Best show around!! If you watch their concert in Denver that was uploaded, I'm the guy that starts the chug cant when Hettsu is holding her beer!
