People need to stop with asking for Remakes, this is something we feasibly just cannot keep expecting for each generation of Nintendo games. We would not have Pokémon platinum if we didn’t have remakes. The best version of diamond and pearl. The problem is with games like let’s go, brilliant Diamond and shining pearl. They went a and barely changed things or even dumbed it down. Sure brilliant diamond and shining pearl were outsourced and basically used the original diamond and pearl with underground changes…. But the point is that the wrong people decided what to do. Everyone just needs to shout to stop these type of changes. Omega Ruby and alpha sapphire actually are infinitely better than ruby and sapphire, but the originals are great in their own right. As a hardcore Gen 5 fan who grew up with the games, black 2 being my first Pokémon game, and my favorite game of all time, I have a LOT of thoughts and feelings regarding its inevitable return to the Pokémon company spotlight. (Just for reference, I literally have a Unova map poster, the gym badges from B2W2, a Snivy plushie, Zorua shirt, a card of Rosa and Serperior in my phone case, and am currently designing a Serperior tattoo for myself.) I may have a bias towards black 2 and white 2 specifically since they were my first, but I care just as much about Black and White, and have played them all. After the BDSP situation, I have begun to worry about what the Pokemkn Company may choose to do with Gen 5 when they bring it back (likely as the "remake" to go alongside Gen 10, since at that point, Gen 5 would be considered the midway point of the entire Pokémon series, and the last set of 2D pixel format games). Gen 4 clearly has a strong fan base, especially for Pokémon platinum, and the fact the Pokémon company completel disregarded all of Platinum's content, and made a seemingly shovel-ware esc remake of just Diamond and Pearl with little to no changes or quality of life improvements for it. It was honestly soul crushing, being that I do still enjoy Sinnoh as well, and wished it'd gotten more Justice. Yes, they made PLA which is a MUCH better new Sinnoh game in my opinion, but it clearly didn't get as much development or time in the oven as it should've since it was likely just a side project for the franchise. Almost a tech demo of sorts for 3D Pokémon before the release of SV. The fact nintendo even gave the real Diamond and Pearl remakes to a second hand company is a very very bad sign in my opinion. From my experience, back in the day as a Pokémon fan, or for any Nintendo games in general, Nintendo takes SERIOUS responsibility and care for the games, or at least they used to. So much so that they swore to never outsource their games, and would rather make them themselves to ensure they are always the highest of quality. But they did just the opposite with Gen 4, outsourced it, andhicj inevitably led it BDSP being infamously hated for how bad it is. I have played it, and did beat Shining Pearl, but in all honesty, it was nothing special. I which makes me think, would the Pokémon company dare disrespect Gen 5 just as hard? Even with how strong it's fan base has become and grown throughout the past few years? I'm all honest, I don't know. They could be lazy and do just that, but, deep in my gut I feel as though they have at least a DECENT plan for it. Within the past few Pokémon games, I have noticed EVERY little detail referencing not just black and white, but b2w2, and how those references are integrated so importantly ink each game. For example, Bede's theme references the PWT final round theme. In PLA, there's a clear poster of what seems to be an ancestor of Alder on the walls of the Pearl clan homes. Not to mention, SO MANY of the Noble Pokémon and ride Pokémon in PLA originate from Unova. Noble Liligant, Braviary, Basculegion, and the fact that Oshowatt is a starter in the game. And most importantly, the fact that the only other time traveler in the game is INGO!! (Who is one of the heads of the battle subway in Gen 5). And now, in Scarlet and Violet, I'm seeing TONS of references to Gen 5. Johto is also due for a remake, and since both it and Gen 5 are up next, I'm noticing correlations to both. Firstly, the fact that the two legendary paradox Pokémon are Walking Wake and Iron leaves. Suicoone from Gen 2, and Verizion from Gen 5. Why would they choose those two Pokémon specifically to make into legendary paradoxes? Because they come from the two games that are next in line for remakes. I could ramble on for ages about all the references to both Gen 5 and 2 in recent games, but I must mention what I believe is the best for Unova. In my heart, I feel as though Gen 5 deserves a 3rd sequel. One that'll honor all the amazing things both games offered, and adding MORE to build into the story that was left on a cliffhanger on the last game. We never saw the original dragon, we never saw what happened to N, we never saw what became of Colress and team Plasma, and so many other things. I feel like a third sequel could do all these loose ends Justice. Not only that, but a third remake could also build on Ingo's story in PLA, possibly showing what happened to Emmet in the present day, and possibly showing him attempting to bring him back. I also feel as though Colress could come back as an even STRONGER villain, being that by now he's explored every region trying to find, as he puts it, "the best way to bring out a Pokémon's true strength", and ultimately finding the power, or as we know it ‘gimmick" of every region, and harnessing it. We heard a mention of him in X and Y, so clearly he knows about mega evolution, we actually SAW him in Alola, so he must know of Z moves, we didn't see him in Galar, but as a scientist studying Pokémon power, he likely knows of Dynamax and Gigantamax. And now that Scarket and Violet is out, he could know of Terrastalization by now. I also noticed that professor Sada and Turo's insane desire to study paradox Pokémon and fulfill their scientific dreams heavilv mimic that of Colress. and mav even be inspired by him. So, long story short, I feel like Colress should be planning some world endangering scheme. And on a side note, something that's just a sort of wish of mine for Gen 5 sequels, I hope the player gets the chances to start in either of Gen 5's starting towns in the sequel, to then follow a different path, giving the game the ability to have branching stories and different endings, something of the sort. Also, if we were simply to get just a remake of Black and white, there's so much content we would be losing that makes the Gen so amazing. We'd lose Virbank, Aspertia, Floccassy, and many other towns, Iris would no longer be champion, Humilau gym wouldn't exist, and as another youtuber put it, "The PWT would just become cold storage". All this may be just the ramblings of my pure love for Gen 5, but, I digress.

I miss returning characters from previous games appearing in the main generational games. USUM were the last games this happened, however this can be thought as a nod to the 20th anniversary of the franchise. On the switch games, just Mina and Ingo had made a comeback; however, LGPE and PLA are not the main game of their respective generation.
SWSH and SV have no returning important characters as far as I know (I've never played the Galar games). And I don't remember any mentions of previous characters coming out of them like the XY Colress you said (perhaps I'm wrong).
Like, Galar and Paldea are most likely geographical neighbors of Kalos. And, though they have some slight nods to the region, they don't mention anything about famous people who live there or events that happened there. For example, the only two chefs in the series who specialize in water-type pokemon happen to be a paldean man and a kalosian guy. There's a high chance they do know each other; however, this is not used in the game (the same could be said about Burgh and Viola however their regions are geographically apart). We could also have seen a mention of a hypothetical fashion show where Nessa, Valerie and Tulip (even Elesa) could have participated. However I shouldn't emphasize mentions of characters because they're never been widely used in the core games.
I don't know if they stopped doing this because they want to leave any of these things for pokemon masters EX and let the new games just for the new characters, but I surely miss seeing cameos of old characters in the new regions.

I don't have a problem with remakes if they take the time to make them the true definitive version. Although I still want to have the original versions available in some way. The updates graphics and music aren't always better to me.
Pokemon has been getting further and further away from being the definitive version with each remake.
    * There's very little to complain about with FRLG, except how long they make you play before giving you the running shoes.
    * HGSS is great too. I love the GB music player, and how it even including remixes of tracks that weren't in the original. The soundfont used in the GBA and DS games just sounds like parping MIDI trumpets so I prefer the chiptunes. The GB player should have been available from the start though. I also wish they had remade Gen 2 after Gen 5 so we would have gotten animated sprites in battle.
    * ORAS is definitely one of the better 3D games since it's not so linear and cutscene driven. There's no excuse for cutting the postgame content especially when they could have released it as free DLC.
    * I didn't buy LGPE. Replacing the battle system with a minigame and removing some of the best features added to the battle system in FRLG (held items and abilities), as well as every non-Kanto Pokemon gave me no reason to play these.
    * BDSP was just a graphical overhaul that made the games look worse. I'd much rather emulate Diamond in HD than look at these Funko Pop characters. Why even go to the effort of making two models for nearly every character? I also don't want random battles back. Even the remakes of Dragon Quest VII and VIII on the 3DS removed them and only a fraction of players actually prefer them.

    • @rivalryyyy

Not sure if you agree but I think the major issue is that it's just now expected to make a remake? Instead of being right let's improve these games, it's just an expected content from Pokemon and that's why it falls flat.
I didn't have a particular issue with Let's Go simply because I understood they wanted a core game on the Switch for release, but I feel that's where it really start the change to just 'quick get it out so we can sell it' .
I'd be happy to have any remake, but only provided it was a true definitive version. Pokemon Platinum came out over a decade ago and is still the definitive version of Gen 4 despite a remake.

    • @TFSned
      @TFSned Год назад +1

@@rivalryyyy Dragon Quest also used to alternate between new games and remakes. They remade DQ I & II using V's engine and DQ III using VI's engine. Pokemon did the same thing up to ORAS.
What made these remakes work is that they were made by the core team and were brought up to the standards of a brand new mainline game. They didn't take the easy route by just making a straight port or limiting them to just a graphical facelift.
Unfortunately if the series is stagnant then there aren't enough changes to justify a remake. After Gen 4 there aren't many drastic changes to the core gameplay that would make remakes of those games play differently.

@@TFSned That's my personal opinion as well. I liked Mega Evolutions as a concept - but as it hasn't been added on since Gen 6 I don't feel as a core gameplay mechanic its worth adding because it isn't expanded on every gen, same with every other concept they bring in every generation.

@@rivalryyyy All I really want from Pokemon is for them to be faster and have more difficulty options. DQ XI and KH III did this perfectly by having a bunch of difficulty modifiers that you can turn on, like tougher enemies, no items, and no running from battle.
Gen 5 was already much faster than Gen 4 and even had difficulty levels (although they needed to be unlocked or traded for some reason). Since then Game Freak have no interest in offering difficulty options, even the option to disable EXP share. They also seem to think that Nuzlocke is some kind of ROM hack when it's really just a self-imposed set of rules so you can't just sleepwalk through the games.

      @TFSned Год назад

@@jaretco6423 DQ is definitely being handled the way I wish Pokemon was. DQXI S was the perfect balance between modernisation and keeping what made the early games so good. It really is the game you imagined in your head while wandering around the towns and world map brought into 3D.
Pokemon already took inspiration from DQ for the forgiving game over mechanic where you just lose half your money and return to the last town, and the whole idea of catching monsters from DQV (although Pokemon may have started development earlier). All I really want is for Pokemon to use the Draconian Quest difficulty modifiers from DQXI.

My one (and only) rebuttal would be that your discussion of 'what would be added in Gen 5' (around 8:47) was incomplete.
The big change between Gen 5 and 8 that you mentioned for the Gen 3 remakes but completely glossed over for Gen 4 and 5: Fairy Type (there's also been some other under-the-hood clean-up in mechanics since Gen 5, like adjusting Steel's chart matchup against Ghost/Dark).
Normally, I'd say that Fairy not being present in Gen 5 wouldn't matter as much as no Gen 5 pokemon were given the fairy typing (aside from Mega Audino which doesn't count) but we've seen from all the previous remakes - and most recently, BDSP - that their system of remakes does include expanding Pokemon availability from the original games, so the fairy typing existing would change how the games play out, especially since Dragons are so prevalent in the story (both a gym leader and primary antagonist using powerful dragons)
Aside from that point, I do think your argument about not wanting them to be rushed out does hold water, though.

    • @rivalryyyy

Since I still have my original carts for gen 5, this doesn't matter as much to me, but I will say this:
Of all the games that Pokémon has released, remakes of Gen 5 would make the least sense (I mean, the 3DS games getting remakes would also make no sense, but hear me out). B(2)/W(2) were the last Pokémon games made for the Nintendo DS(i) and were specifically designed to make use of everything those two systems could possibly do.
Sky Arrow Bridge, for example, is paced in such a way that it's made purely for you to run along it and watch how the camera pans around. A bridge like that would serve no purpose, gameplay wise, but it's there so you can be impressed on your way to Castelia City, which was the biggest city in all of Pokémon at the time. It was also the first one to feature NPCs moving around on busy streets that you could interact with (or that would try to walk around you if you got in their way). The only other areas in all of Pokémon to do this are Join Avenue in BW2 and Lumiose City in XY (also, there are fewer moving NPCs in Lumiose City and you can't interact with any of them).
After playing Shining Pearl, I was happy with what I was doing at the time since Pearl was a game I always wanted, but could never get as a kid. However, using the Poké Nav was strange since it clearly wasn't designed to be awkwardly shoved in the corner of the screen. The (3)DS games simply don't work as well once you remove the second screen, which would make the C-Gear not very intuitive to use.
Also, what would happen with the Entralink? I restarted my Pokémon Black to try and do a run with a team resembling the ones used by Black and White in the Pokémon Adventures manga, which meant I lost all of my Entralink progress, but how would that work on Switch?
There's also the issue of the Dream World and Pokémon Dream Radar, wich both required external devices to use fully (Dream World needed you to go to the Pokémon website and Dream Radar is an AR 3DS game). How will those work?
There's a lot of stuff in this generation that only works as well as it does because it was made specifically for the DS family and capturing it all on anything other than a DS or Wii U-like system wouldn't work nearly as well.

  • @nathanblackburn1193
    @nathanblackburn1193 Год назад +1

I mean they're likely gonna happen regardless because Pokemon but it'll be interesting to see how they're handled seeing as how gen 5 is the generation with the most little details with things like seasons, NPCs that change the music, once per day events, a lot of the communication features and the version differences, there's also the question of how Black 2 and White 2 would be handled would they be separate remakes? What about all the B2 &W2 exclusive features? Gen 5 are probably the Pokemon games with the most effort put into them which means the hypothetical remakes will either drop the ball completely and be objectively worse than the originals or they'll force more effort from the devs to make them on par with the originals (which is less likely but still)

Black and White 3 will take place in the far future and far past respectively. It is revealed that in present Unova, a rift opened after an experiment attempted to recreate the original dragon. You do little more than pick your starter when a young man bearing a striking resemblance to Ghetsis bursts into the lab, grabs a pokeball from the table, and enters a hidden basement. The new professor seems very distressed and dashes after him, asking you to follow. Underground, the young man introduces himself as the son of Ghetsis attempting to liberate the three legendary dragons found restrained here and prevent the world suffering his father's mistakes again. The professor smirks and mentions she'll have to go "ahead of schedule" and flips a switch. The tanks roar to life and Kyurem and Zekrom cry out as we see Kyurem's ice melt away. The former's energy seems to be getting fed to it. As this happens, Emmet and Ingo burst into the room, apparently accompanying the young man. A sudden explosion occurs, and a silhouette of a massive dragon appears before a blinding light overtakes you. You awake to find yourself in a field or a sprawling city depending on the version. A shimmering, green and white Klink appears with a screen connected to it. The boy appears on the screen with the other world in the background and explains the situation. He calls this Klink a "Time Gear" variety he found while studying the works of Dr. Turo and Dr. Sada from Paldea. The original dragon, it turns out, creates enough power to mess with time. It is revealed that a "mysterious hero" split the dragon to prevent this when the brothers warred. He mentions that they should work together to return to the present by finding the original dragon and the recreation existing in your future or past times.
Or that's how I'd do it anyway.

I don't want Gen 5 remakes, never have, never will, and if they get released, they will not exist for me. These are m y favorite games in the series, and seeing them get basterdized just wouldn't be right. FireRed and LeafGreen had the capability of fixing Red and Blue's issues, bringing them to modern consoles and expand the Kanto Region a bit. Not only that but with the jump from GBC to GBA, it was impossible to transfer Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon to Gen 3, FireRed and LeafGreen were necessary to facilitate this. HeartGold and SoulSilver was more of a passion project, from old interviews, you can see that GF really wanted to capture the magic of Gen 2 in the modern day, to bring forth ideas they had shelved due to limitations and bring back both a unique experience for new players and a familiar journey for old players. It was a labor of love.
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were games that brought a beloved series into newer hardware, they introduced new things, expanded the Hoenn Region and the lore behind Kyogre and Groudon, improved Team Magma and Team Aqua significantly and gave us Soaring, which is by far the neatest thing in a Pokemon Game. It made you see how big and expansive the Hoenn Region was. The Horns of Hoenn sounded beautiful on the 3DS (Could have used more horns but that's just me) Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl... this was the first remake where I didn't know what to really think about it. I memed a lot about "Sinnoh Confirmed" but what we got was just terrible. When Platinum exists, why not give us that? Why give us the Platinum Pokemon in the Grand Underground but not add them to the dex? Why make a lot of viable pokemon "Post Game Only?" it just... doesn't feel like a remake. It feels worse than Diamond and Pearl and that's saying a lot given how bad those games are, a product of their time perhaps, but DP were serviceable. They made such a faithful remake that they even added tweaking which was hilarious in and of itself. I don't see what Black and White remakes would bring to the table.
Black and White and Black and White 2 were the last hurrah for GF on the DS, they pushed the system to it's limits, gave is near perfect 3D in an era where 3D still hadn't fully settled in. It was immersive, refreshing and a fun adventure. If they modernize it, I fear they'll just create another BDSP, a faithful remake that looks worse than the originals and just tarnishes an otherwise good Generation instead of expanding it and updating it. They should just leave it alone, but I know they won't because of Money. It is what it is.

Hard disagree on whether gen 5 should be made, but I do agree that Gamefreak needs to give themselves more time to actually produce the games.
Main argument seems to be that nothing new has been added other than the generational gimmicks, which is just wild to me. We've gone fully 3D after gen 5, and recently, open-world. Overworld Pokemon encounters (especially if done like in Arceus). If you're tunnel-visioned on competitive play, then you're ignoring the sheer amount of abilities and moves and evolutions and items that have been added since gen 5. Shit, just the fact that you wouldn't be forced to have HM slaves clog up your team is gold by itself. Nevermind the many many many many quality of life improvements. The idea of playing Unova with the engine of SV or Arceus sounds fantastic.
And regarding gimmicks, Mega Evolutions were in XY, ORAS, and LGPE. They're not exclusive to Kalos, and based on some things Khu has hinted at, the next DLC is probably gonna be tying all of these gimmicks together. I think we may also be getting a new type based on some of the rumors.
Frankly, BW is not fun to play if you didn't already grow up with it. A remake would ignite new interest in Unova. It might also encourage Gamefreak to bring back triples battles. That said, I won't even bother getting it if they do to it what they did to BDSP.

I'm a little late to the party but my honest thoughts on Gen 5 remakes are very cautiously pessimistic. I understand that HGSS were well done remakes and both Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee are remakes of Pokemon Yellow with Pokemon Go as the base identity for experiencing a new revisit to Kanto, ORAS were the last remakes I enjoyed with full optimism. I was bummed out learning that Let's Go was more or less a glorified beta test for the new 3D pokemon models but it still felt charming in its own way, I can't really say the same for BDSP which had a lot of expectations and their approach felt less than lackluster. What makes Gen 5 different from the rest of the entries are the attentions to details from Black and White to B2W2, how similar they are yet different after 2 years have passed, the character arcs that go beyond the standard childhood friend trope and evil organization, and the amount of passion there was when humans were put on the spotlight over the pokemon that inhabited the region. The other problem I have with Gen 5 remakes are what the new Unova will look if Gamefreak decides to give it the 3D graphical treatment, the last pokemon games that pushed pixel art graphics and 3D illusions to its limit at the time with short and repetitive animations that gave each pokemon some personality than being idle 3D models. If there was 1 choice I would send to Gamefreak or Junichi Matsuda for Gen 5 remakes it would be either of these: make a definitive Pokemon Gray that completes the story after B2W2 or make it into the next Pokemon Legends project that focuses on ancient Unova when the region was divided among various groups who hold power in their respective territories. I'm not holding any faith for a decent remake or want to see another one for the next few years but I'm not opposed to having the original games ported over to the switch and provide a few new online features that have been shut down in the past decade.

Not to mention, emulating Gen. V, you can also experience Drayano's ROM Hacks, BlazeBlack/VoltWhite, which seem to bear the kind of difficulty I now actively want in a game... Maybe that would explain why I enjoy Dark Souls so much... As much as I love the idea of using Greninja and Zeraora in Unova, I can but dream...
And we do say "ee-"volution here! (Where are you from? I seem to be finding a lot of fellow Brit's channels recently!)

All of this is true, but there’s something else that you didn’t bring up that’s a big reason to not want remakes anymore. Some of the most appealing things about the gen 1-3 remakes was being able to connect to the other games and to use Pokémon from later gens that didn’t exist in the originals. With the Switch games (including the remakes), neither of those things are possible anymore so what’s even the point of remakes anymore? Let’s Go and especially BDSP feel so hollow compared to FRLG, HGSS, and ORAS because of this.

Gen 5 is my absolute favorite gen, and I just... really don't think it needs to be remade, and this actually articulates pretty well why I've been so hedgy about it outside of the general "I would prefer them not to rush or farm out remakes that aren't as good as they can be". There's just no reason to. As you said, the generation gimmicks have already proven they're just going to be exclusive or nearly-exclusive to the generations they're introduced in.
It's honestly a bit frustrating to be getting to the point where it's like... endless recursive remakes. We've already re-remade Kanto with the Let's Go games, and I'd be willing to bet at least some money that a Johto Let's Go game has been at least seriously pitched, if it's not already in the works.
So naturally, I'll see you all in five years for the inevitable Let's Go Hoenn and Gen 6 remakes.

I completely agree. Remakes were a good idea to update old games that were outdated due to changes in Pokémon mechanics. This was specially urgent for the first two gens. I don't think that ORAS or BDSP were unnecessary, but they weren't as urgent. Anyway, I think the last big change in the mechanics were the physical and special split and that was in the 4th gen. BW are still up to date, IMO.

How would they port ds games though? The ds had 2 screens. When they do things like the virtual console games it isn’t a port, it’s an emulation of the original. They aren’t going to go in and edit the games to make it compatible with a single screen on the switch. The only way to have the ds games is a remake, but if they’re going to continue doing remakes through ILCA like BDSP I don’t want them

yes you absolutely right, before Game Freak decide to remake the Gen 5, they must shown to us that they can make a final and complete product. as everyone know, Scarlet and Violent clearly don't finished and completed. and the second point is that they must make a new gameplay changes that stay at least for 3 generations. if they won't do that, then don't remake the Gen 5, or fans will keep hates for any dumb decisions that they doing until now.

I'd love if they just ported the games to switch like you suggested, but they wouldn't be able to milk an extra sixty dollars per copy from it that way. As far as remakes that may happen in gen 9 though, I think XY may actually be remade. This I due to the proximity of kalos to paldea, the amount of kalos media in scarlet and violet, and gamefreaks want to subvert the fanbases expectations every couple of generations, examples being no remake or third installment in gen 5, but sequels instead, and in gen 7 them remaking pokemon yellow instead of diamond and pearl.

I think there is a reasonable argument for gen 2-3 and 5-6 remakes as they currently dont have switch updates. End of gen 8 was gen 4 focused. I think it would be great to give some of the other games a fresh coat of paint unlike what they did to gen4 that one i think there were some missed opportunities with bdsp. However i do think they are about to shift focus to gen 5 remakes along with a legends kyurem. And im 100% down for that as we have not seen the 100% dragon. I think they will easily tie that with gen 5 remakes then leading to gen 10. I also think nintendo is a genius for creating each of the emulators on the switch and that will cause a reduction in the necessity of remakes. I hope of they do continue this trend of remakes in the gen 6 they also include trips to galar and paldea as we havent seen a gen where they have multiple regions since gen 2 and they should bring that back as well. They could easily do alola and hoenn too

I guess they could make could make Victini or Musharna Fairy type but Victini is a Mythical from an event. They would probably have to add Fairy type regional variants of pokemon from other regions or expand the Unova Dex to the B2W2 Dex, though the latter would go against the spirit of original BW.

If someone had BDSP, they couldn't battle their friend with SWSH, So the games had less value because you were missing out on the majority of the Pokemon community (Because the battles in BDSP are almost the exact same as DPP, the only changes were Fairy types and some new items).

I think a Legends game with a triple-fused dragon to represent Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem would be best for Gen 5 then leave them alone. For future remakes, I would hope for a Crystal remake given there is no legal Gen 2 game with the Fairy type & Gen 6 needs Pokemon Z to vastly improve what X&Y were
