Instead of remakes for Gen 5, I feel like they should just make a B&W 3. That way they could follow the traits of what the remakes have done with updated graphics, a nostalgic return to Unova and reusing elements from past games past Gen 5 AND avoid the games being too faithful/too different from the previous entry. Plus I think it’s fitting for this Gen considering instead of a third release, we got B&W 2. Though realistic, I am expecting a remake of B&W.

I feel like BW&BW2 were complete games that have become iconic in the community for a reason. If its just gonna be a chibi "faithful" remake then I'd honestly prefer them not make them. I'd rather them let us revisit unova as a new game with a new story especially a legends game. We would get to go back to unova but we can see it in a different time and have lots of history building. The same routes would look interesting and exciting to explore yet would have resemblance to the modern region we know. Whatever they do I just want some effort put into it.

i think the issue is that we keep seeing gamefreak *revisit* instead of *reimagine* or *expand.* legends arceus was so good well in part due to actually adding onto pre existing lore and creating something new, but also having continuity between what already exists. pokemon needs to stop remaking reigons and telling the same story over again, and instead pick up where we left off with something new. i think that's what we all want, deep down. i think it's what they're missing. my ideal unova remakes would not be faithful remakes to the original with everything taking place all over again. i want to see how unova has grown, i want to see how it's changed since b2/w2. i want to see the characters we knew and how they've evolved as people, i want to see it again, but in a new light. i want a new story, something fresh but also familiar.

BDSP wasn’t a cash grab it was a “You MFs want a remake, here’s a remake” because they clearly knew people would expect a classic style remake and just threw it to ILCA and told them to not really stray that far because it was their first game and GF probably felt it better to have them play it safe to avoid them getting behind (which ILCA still managed to do) while GF made Arceus instead.

They could make a game like oras, that captures the feeling of the original while innovating. Or they can split it into two games, one being super faithful and one being very innovative like sinnoh remakes. Personally I would prefer an oras style remake. But I kinda want it to stay in 2d. Gen 5 was the last game we got in 2d and it was special because of that. I really don't want them to render it in plain generic 3d with no soul like bdsp. An octopath style remake that celebrates the 2d pixel art while bringing a modern hd edge to everything would be amazing.

ORAS aren't particularly good remakes either though. Heartgold & Soulsilver are the gold standard for remakes with FireRed & Leafgreen coming in second. I don't even think the other remakes are worth talking about in a discussion about remakes because you get more out of playing Emerald and Platinum respectively. You don't get more out of playing Crystal or Yellow than you do of the remakes of their respective generation, conversely.

Pretty good video, but just as an FYI, they've had two internal teams for a while. Basically they have two teams for Pokémon and then a third team for their "GEAR project" stuff which is basically their indie stuff like Tembo the Badass Elephant for example. You can see that they've had two teams though given the timing of Gen 4+ releases though since BW came out only a year after HGSS, and a year is super short for a dev cycle, especially for a 3D game that does a fair amount of upgrades to the engine as well. Also, many might wonder why there are some regressions between releases there, like no following Pokémon for example, and part of that is from them being developed in tandem more or less. Looking inside of BW also shows some remainders from DP and nothing from HGSS also giving more evidence of the tandem development. I think the issue more is that their current three year cycle is too short for how much more effort is needed on bigger scale projects to get the same level of quality.

Generation V was the last games to use chibis. X and Y made it full 3D. Even if they use the Gen 4 remakes' chibi style for the Gen 5 remakes to be faithful, they can't do it for Kalos without downgrading. With the reception of BDSP's chibi models and how they are one generation away from being done with remaking the sprite-styled games, I think the 3D chibi thing is going to be exclusive to the Sinnoh remakes.

Remakes seem to follow two patterns: they’re on new hardware and they’re 1/2 the new Gen #. Besides Gen 1 being remade in Gen 3:
    - Gen 4 had Gen 2 remakes
    - Gen 6 had Gen 3 remakes
    - gen 8 had gen 4 remakes
I think Gen 5 remakes will follow this pattern and will be part of Gen 10. Maybe Gen 9 gets a Let’s Go style Johto game 🤞

    • @Stinkoman87
      @Stinkoman87 2 года назад +2

There's another way to interpret the pattern though: every gen gets a remake, two console generations later. The GB games got remakes on the GBA, the GBC games got remakes on the DS, the GBA games got remakes on the 3DS, and one set of the DS games so far has had a remake on the Switch. So I would say its even odds whether the Gen V games will be on the switch as well.

There is no way that'll happen ever again. Last time we had 2 regions in a game was 23 years ago( i don't count HGGS because they are remakes). And the second region had nothing to do in it other then get the gym badges. Don't get your hopes up.

Honestly, I think that having Gen 5 remakes in the next 4 years should be bare minimum. That was peak pokemon for me, and probably mostly most us, and even the sequels associated with gen 5 even more. I would rather dlc after dlc after dlc just to delay it as much as possible for quality. I could care less if the national Dex comes back, but I know there are people that want that the most (sometimes). My point is, I just want a tad bit more time. I bought 1 copy of each games since diamond and pearl and that supports them, maybe a bit more differences besides literal night and day and a few pokemon. Maybe plot points, areas, and such. I always have enjoyed pokemon games, but a little more spice could go a long way

And it was overall a pretty cool game that really did a lot for Pokemon.

Ok i have a small formula i noticed for remakes, they always come out at the generation that is double the number of the original, except gen 1 but its the only exception
    Gen 2 - Gen 4
    Gen 3 - Gen 6
    Gen 4 - Gen 8
Since pokemon is now releasing yearly, gen 9 is already confirmed for this year, Scarlet and Violet - Whatever Pokemon Does to Fill a Year(WPDtFaY) - WPDtFaY - Gen 10 main games - Gen 5 remakes or WPDtFaY
I put 3 games/dlc per gen because its what happened to gens 8 and 7, so 5 or 6 years if my prediction is correct, thats what i have for release date

I grew up with pokemon when it started with red and blue. I love the pokemon franchise. What I don't like is how the games get easier and easier. I miss the challenge and the grind. It made u feel accomplished at the end of the game. Nowadays we have exp share that's automatic which I hate with a passion and easy trainers to fight. I remember when our red and blue rival battles even in johto was a little nerve wrecking cause they honestly weren't the easiest qt the time. That's the fun. I keep playing the new games but I never look forward to it like I used too. It also doesn't help that kids these days get there hands held with everything and aren't challenged cause God forbid we make something difficult and force the kid to actually think about it. This is all my opinion.

I’d love to see them take as much time as possible with the bw/bw2 reimagining (or remake, but preferably the former). Gen 5 was my first dive into the series, and if waiting means I’m in a retirement home before it comes out, so be it.
I’d love to see Unova reimagined into an artstyle like X/Y (if they want it to be nostalgic) or a modern style like SV. I want to see Pokéstar studios come back, the PWC could have characters from games that came out after BW for added fanservice! Theres also the mini-beauty paegent that could (should) return as well. There is so much that the pkmn company needs to refine if everything that makes BW really special is to be added into the remakes, so if it takes 10+ years for “Blinding White” and “Void Black” to come out I don’t care. I just want Gen5 to get as much love as it can for everything that it came packed with.

And kyurem needs a new item that allows kyurem to absorb both legendaries to become the true original dragon form of kyurem because kyurem is just so cool.

That way, even if the threequals are rushed and not great, it’s at least not destroying the original and adds more onto the lore in general

There really is a lot to potentially consider when it comes to revisiting Unova. I wouldn't be surprised if doing so would leave someone put off no matter what ends up happening. We could question which games to remake, could both get remade, or could it be some kind of composite? If it's B1W1, Do we keep the original Unova native only Dex or update to be more like sequels? What about the National dex? If the Unova base Dex is kept then the expedition that happens in the post game that leads directly into the B2W2 Dex should also be part of the game in some capacity and maybe even addressed directly as some kind of event. What things should be tampered with to smooth out the playthrough? I recently replayed Black version and feel like the distribution of the Pokemon in the Dex could of been better, the way we are prevented from entering the Dream Yard proper until after the first Gym isn't needed, and being able to explore that next route past just a bit would be nice. Those changes would go along way in helping players feel less railroaded and open up more options for the player in those early moments of the game and feel like perfectly valid things to do considering how options immediate explode in quantity by the 2nd to 3rd Gym.
Instead of remakes how about another sequel further in Unova's time line where we get to see the Unova change again thus completely dodging the above questions entirely? In such a scenario, should the original games get a kind of remaster with quality of life improvements? What mechanics should be brought over, is it possible to reimagine some instead using them whole sell, and could we see regional variants added in if the remake is of the sequels or is replaced with another new sequel. What about the idea of further emphasizing the changes in the original native Pokemon Unova brought on by the new additions to the population rather than how Regional variant show the other way around. This could provide a nice opportunity to create new native Pokemon to like Legends did for Sinnoh. Maybe now that Basculin has some environmental pressure it could regain it's evolution or gain new ones for each of the 2 forms.

A interesting thing I've noticed happening with the remakes (not saying it is a pattern) is other then the gen 1 remakes it's like they take the current generation and then they divide by 2 for what remake lines up where. So 2 and 4, 3 and 6, and then 4 and 8. Sorry if I worded it poorly, I don't know if I explained it well 😅

I actually have a counter argument to the “no set pattern for remakes”.
Every set of remakes to come out thus far (besides FRLG/Let’s Go) has come out in the generation number that doubles their original generation of release (Gen2 remakes in gen 4, gen 3 remakes in gen 4, gen 4 remakes in gen 8, etc) so if we follow this pattern we’ll get gen 5 remakes as early as next gen. Still too early to say but I just thought I’d mention that.

Gen 1 kinda had a remake in gen 2 with Kanto’s inclusion, gen 2 remakes came out in gen 4, Gen 3 remakes in 6, and Gen 4 remakes in 8. I’m almost 100% sure we’ll see Gen 5 remakes in Gen 10.

In my opinion, i would think that idealistically to have BW/BW2 ports to the switch and a legends type game. I think that with BW2, they wrapped up the region’s story pretty nicely and a BW3 would probably be more iffy and shoehorned in for lore. A legends type game would be perfect for lore expansion and a chance to see the original dragon.

I think the two teams dynamic at GameFreak is actually really good as a software developer myself at a certain point a teams becomes to large and it feels clunky to work with the others. Sure with a good management it can work, but there is a reason why most beloved games in the past years were created by small teams consisting of old and new developers. Communication is easier and the mix of old developers and their experience and new developers bringing in new methods is really good. But there are two things I think that hold GF back, the first one is the lack of new and young developers they have some but they seem to prefer to stick to the old teams, the other problem I see is there game engine. If what I read is true every Pokemon game on the Switch is being run on a modified 3DS engine, which they adjusted and ported to the Switch. This limits their games by alot and is the reason they graphics aren't what we expect. This is also were the second team could come in clutch. They should simply start developing a new engine based on an already existing one from Nintendo. Sure it's alot of work but it will benefit the whole company. This would mean that while they developing this engine the other team would need to develop DLC for the current game but that shouldn't be a problem. But I think GF is to lazy. They will probably wait for the next console and do it.

I've been saying this for years: Pokemon is a victim of its own success. The games are rushed out because they need there to always be something new. Something new to be turned into plushies, anime, trading cards, pyjamas, bed sheets, action figures etc etc etc. They've got their foot strapped to the accelerator and the brakes are broken. Even if the developers want to slow down and spend a couple years making a really good game, they can't because they need to pump out new content to support everything else.

My first pokemon game was pokemon white 2 for my birthday gift🥰 and I really REALLY wish that they make it good😥 that the same fate doesn't happen to it like the gen 4 remakes had. 😞

Not related to remakes but the only thing black an white was missing was Pokémon being able to follow you those triple battles wjere so hard

It's sad but true, I can hope the quality of the pokemon games main series and remakes come back. I hope pokemon scarlet and violet aswell as gen 5 remakes will bring back the quality and no corners are cut

In my dreams game freak goes underground for ten years and we suddenly get the best game ever (which is just one game instead of 2) thats like Pokemon Black and White . Like with the period . And its not a remake its like black and white 3 and it has the most heart wrenching story with a slightly expanded region new pokemon crazy shit like thats what i NEED

ILCA is busy with One Piece Odyssey right now and I would say it looks better than BDSP let's hope they treat One Piece with care. As for Pokemon Legends Arceus to me that felt like the real deal Gen 4 remake if anything I can see Gen 5 getting the same treatment and hype up Pokemon Legends treatment with the original dragon. But if anything after Gen 9 we will most likely see Gen 2 remakes considering after Gen 4 we got those ans hoping since Pokemon Legends Arceus sold well I really want it to become a series itself. But if ILCA gets to remake Gen 5 hoping GameFreak would give them more creative freedom because in the concept art from ILCA it seems like they were going all out but then Masuda stepped in to keep it safe and I don't Masuda the man is doing his job.

Concept art is not indicative of a final product. BDSP was always going to be the way it was which I think is fine tbh

That is not what happened with the art and Masuda. We need to stop spreading that rumor

Games change during development all the time so I would imagine the concept art orginally was gonna take it to a Platinum direction but then they decided to go to the original Diamond and Pearl direction Masuda wanted that to happen but like I said he was in charge of the remakes a lot of passionate Pokemon Fans tend to hate on Masuda they see him as the guy that ruined Pokemon but to me I see him as a awesome dude that is passionate about Pokemon as well,I'm not blaming Masuda the guy is a genius when it comes to music he created some of the best in the Pokemon series not to mention he also directed Gen 5 as well. The concept art isn't a rumor Johto Jonny did a video on the Concept Art of what the gen 4 remakes were originally once different but basically yes they change that's how it is for game development.

@@FTChomp9980 but like I said concept art is not indicative of the product and it was always gonna be DP remakes - third versions are never remade. Masuda does deserve more respect though

@@FTChomp9980 Johto Johnny had no evidence for that claim. I love him and his discussions and analysis, but that claim about the concept art wasn’t true at all. Even the art book itself says differently. He was trying to figure out why BDSP wasn’t done better and looking for a way to blame Masuda because he doesn’t like Masuda.
He even says Arceus was so good because Masuda wasn’t involved when that is demonstrably incorrect.

game freak does have 2 teams and thats been known for a while, plus the legends and SV team were actually the same team

I mean, when they aren't being overseen by Game Freak/The Pokémon Company, ILCA has worked on stuff like Nier: Automata, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Yakuza 0, and Dragon Quest XI, so I would guess that they weren't the primary reason why BDSP ended up like it did.
