- This is why Black and White 2 are the best Pokemon games in the series. Unova has so much to offer with the amount of content packed into these titles. Set 2 years after the original Black and White games, we take a look at why these games are the highest quality and best designed games in the entire franchise and why games released since then haven't lived upto the quality and the greatness of B2W2.

I actually played this in 2013 when I got the Adventure Time 3DS game for my birthday from my mom (hint to 3DS for Christmas) and said "We're going to Target". And we went to Target and I traded the game (my mom said "Are you sure?", I was "Yes") and NEVER REGRETEED IT EVER. I STILL HAVENT beat everything in the game (mainly medals, Black Tower, and PTR (all regions)). I AGREE WITH YOU 100%
I had previously played Heartgold before White 2 and when I played White 2 for the first time, it changed EVERYTHING. Every Pokemon was so unique and amazing that Generation 5 has my favorite starters of all time (They ARE THAT GOOD). I can't remember a story, characters, Pokemon, and music as good as Generation 5 had. Gen 5 also is the ONLY one of its kind that actually has a good and legit sequel games
This series has been the only good Pokemon series I will ever keep if I had to choose on generation to save from a fire

i just beat white 2 for the first time. comparing black 2 and white 2 to sword and shield makes you wonder what the hell happened

Black 2 and White 2 are most certainly way better. So many noticeable improvements from gen 4 and gen 2 remakes even though those games are as good as they are for their time and still hold up just like B2W2.
Because fans hated black and white because of "IcECrEaM PoKeMOn" but now people are saying B/W 2 are the best pokemon games

You forgot getting the legendaries in ultra space and fighting team RR in gen 7 and fight in a tower in gen 8. However I agree that the B2W2 postgame had a lot more content than the gen 6,7, and 8 ones. Also gen 6, 7, 8 didn’t have or had very few rematch battles so that was a missed opportunity too.

@@strixio1634 yah but all 5 rivals were extremely bland. Trevor shauna and tierno were just there to battle with. They had absolutely nothing to do with the story. He floette thing as pretty cool and the 3d was pretty cool but sorta ruined pkmn games in the end. Good pkmn game tho

@@Jdudec367 Honestly OrAs doesn't get enough credit. People nitpick at it due to the exclusion of battle frontier. But other than that you can tell care was put into the game. Sun and Moon and USUM weren't so bad except for the long egregious cut scenes and tutorials. SwSh were mediocre though.

Im playing through black 2 right now for the first time and OMG this is like... *Literally* the pinnacle of pokemon. The region/setting/location, pokemon sprites, and music is just absolutely incredible. 10/10

I played emerald, big part of leafgreen, and quit early in crystal, im trying white 2 now, only 2 hours in but it seems awesome
music is shit, moving pokemon sprites that have seizures and really failed in sales. 10/10 failure indeed

i definitely think ruined is over the top, sword and shield even tho i like them are definitely bad and lazy but the 3DS titles were good and the same as every other title minus the enhanced versions and remakes pokémon was always mediocre they have 2 really good games

@@AdarshSingh-do7xg Gen 4 is litteraly the worst Gen tho. Everything from the dark LIFELESS triangle region to the boring story and ugly mons are why gen 4 is my least favorite Generation. It's so fucking bad I don't get how it's overrated.
Only thing I like from Sinnoh is definitely the music, Turtwig line out of the 3 Starters and Legendaries...oh and Cynthia. Everything else is fucking wack and unmemorable, dull & boring. It's easily the worst Japan based Region out of the 4.

Game Freak: Let's do a completely new game instead of a simple third version, let's improve the graphics, make a god like story, improve the music, make a lot of content and an enormous post game!

Hell, how'd we lose the quality of these games in GENERAL? BW/BW2 felt like huge love letters to the entire series and it makes me so upset that it turned into... Modern Pokemon lmao

Funny my favorites are SoulSilver/HeartGold and Black and White 2 (Diamond too, but these two just had SO much more to offer). I hold both dearly to my heart for such a great experience in the world of Pokemon

Gen 5 just hits different
I absolutely adore gen 5. Bw1 had the best story by far in my opinion. It may have been lacking in postgame content, but bw2 made up for that many times over. You can play bw2 for hours and hours after you finish the story and still never get tired of it. As of right now I have 470 hours on my white 2 save, and I’m still trying to complete the pwt, battle subway, level up my join Avenue, entree, and trainer card. The soundtrack is absolutely incredible. I could listen to it for hours on end. I absolutely adore these games and they will always hold a special place in my heart.
Bw2 was the only game where i finished it more then 5 times.

It was good for battle spot and finding your friends easily or even strangers just at a click
But the C-Gear had more functionality and could be customized with all sorts of cool backgrounds
Oh and the Pass Powers got an upgrade into O powers
They were good but not worth what we sacrificed to get them
The gen 5 Pokémon games is like the Sonic unleashed of Pokémon. People hated it back then, but now people appreciate it and love it
I don't think at the time we knew how bad it could get. Pokemon was on such a roll we just didn't know what was coming
Just so you know, the 3DS doesn't emulate DS games, it plays them natively. The only reason DS games may look different when played on a 3DS is the 3DS' screen resolution being larger than the DS'. Hold 'Start' whilst booting the game to have your DS game run in it's native resolution (rather than being stretched to fit the 3DS' resolution). The screen will be small-ish but pin sharp.

I remember playing these games, as well as the sequels a couple years after they came out when a friend of my mother's gave me her eldest son's DS. It was the first set of Pokémon games I had ever played, and I loved them. I didn't play any other versions because I just wasn't able to get a hold of them. Years later, I look at the community and Nintendo and now realize why I enjoyed it, and so many others did. It was bold, daring, thrilling... It was one of the best games in the series since the creation of Red & Blue. People got so many new things and features nobody was able to experience in previous games, and Black & White were some of the last two games in the series to impress fans and creators on a story-telling, creative, and a daring level. Now, most of the games have gone downhill. I can't believe I didn't think of any of this when I first played them.
The last great pokemon game. While Heartgold is my favorite, bw2 are still stellar games with tons of content

Not to mention, this game with Hidden Ability introduce is one of the best all time feature of how to make some weak pokemon to be strong and usable while others region rely on zmoves or even megas
This game is hands down the best pokemon game. I love the sprites, graphics, music, characters, story, mechanics, and the legendaries were the coolest since gen 1.
yeah best game with sales lower even than FRLG.. that's called a failure, and that's not an opinion, when it's numbers ,it's facts.
Finally someone with the same opinion as me. The big word here is 'content' and although some fans don't care for 100%ing, competitive battling or the 1 off game modes, it definitely kept me coming back. PWT, Black Tower Challenge, PokeStar Studios, Medal Rally, Legendaries, there's so much content even after you beat the main story. BW2 have such a good presentation to them, the best looking pixel sprite based Pokemon game, it does it's best job to feel as 3D as possible. Music production is fairly on par with generation 4. Regional Dex has so much updated variety, which is what DP and BW1 suffered from. So many small quality of life improvements and charming references to BW1 for those that take the time to talk to NPC's. A decent amount of time based content to keep you coming back, either daily or every few months. Looking at generation 5 as a whole, BW1 just wasn't all there for me. Among the die hard fans, it's fair to say generation 4 is the best as a whole, but for single game BW2 is easily my pick.
it's not content if it's in post game. whatever's post game isn't content. add it to main story game then it's content. post games make the franchise boring
This was the first pokemon I ever got and I was like 3-5 so between 9-7 years ago. when I got it sadly my childish self played it for like 5 hours and only beat the first gym. One thing I'm happy about is I still have the game and I'm just now starting to play it

I was 15 when I played these games and I was so blown away and thought it was only up from there with the main series moving to 3d and oh man I was so disappointed with how lackluster x and y felt
XY weren't that bad really. And hey, the 3DS games DID get better.

I just didn't have the same feeling about any of the 3ds games compared to the ds games. It wasn't even an age thing for me. I was 15 when b2w2 came out and 16 when x y came out.
With oras, I enjoyed the game, but I find myself preferring emerald as the ultimate hoen experience. I understand if others feel different.
As for gen 7, I enjoyed sun and moon, but could not replay it due to the constant stoppage of gameplay for story dialogue and tutorials ect. This is why I couldn't finish USUM.
I think I would have enjoyed gen 7 way more if it weren't for that. The region is beautiful and has a really nice theme that is always tempting for me, but then I'm reminded right away why I don't like it when trying to play again.

Well....I haven't played any of the DS games yet but I have always really liked the 3DS games. Although I was 10 when XY came out.
Haven't played the original gen 3 games but I still prefer ORAS as the most fulfilling Hoenn experience.
The story honestly just made the experience better and honestly as the game went on the hand holding and tutorials lessened. Gen 4 also had it's own speed issue though really.
I'm honestly rather patient which helps as well for me to get through gen 7.

Just Get Drastic DS Emulator from the Play store. Then you could legit play any Ds Game.

Pokemon White 2 was my first pokemon game and im going back today to play it for all of the memories and i came across this video and let me tell you i totally agree with 100% percent of this.
X and Y had a medal system. It was, however, connected to your Pokémon Global Link account. However, when PGL shifted to support the then released Sun and Moon games, players lost the ability to collect medals.
This is just one of the many points that make B2W2 far more superior than its successors. It's just sad that the toxic part of the fan community shat on it when the games were released in 2012.
There were only 2 games in the franchise that succeeded in the DS era, HG and SS. rest were just abominations.

I'm a Unova Kid. Though I hate the Gen 5 anime to it's core, the games were God Tier. They are my fave games without a doubt. I don't need a remake tho. They're already perfect
Black 2 was my first Pokémon game even. Then I only got Soulsilver. Since for Christmas I will receive a Switch and Arceus as a first game, I cannot wait to discover this whole new Pokémon generation.

I remember getting this for my birthday just after it released. We bought it one day after it released and even though it wasn't my birthday yet my parents still allowed me to play the game a few days beforehand. What a game.

Still remember getting into Pokémon with Black version in 2011, before getting my best friend to bring a platinum and soul silver version over from the US. When this game was announced I was so hyped. Ended up maxing out the hours on my original save file.
Really nice video. I would add that GF also made a real effort to keep the wild pokemon available so broad and viable that it makes the replayabilty skyrocket with the amount of viable teams you can use

Gen 5 was my first step into pokemon ever. I was 4 or 5 when black and white came out and remember when my brother got black and he and I both laughed in confusion as to why It was pokemon black when Reshiram was white and Pokemon white when Zekrom was Black? Couple years later we got black and white 2 (missed genesect and practically all the online features) and it was a blast. We missed countless events like shaymin and keldeo, but regardless, to this day Gen 5 remains my favorite console game of all time. I still go to school and get shit on for liking Gen 5 but I don't care. They may like sun and moon and whatever but I will never stop loving this generation where I was awestruck every single cutscene as like a 6-7 year old. I still can't get Drayden's gym and Kyruem freezing that one town out of my head. Those scenes absolutely changed my world. I pray Game Freak learns and starts putting more effort and actually caring about these games again. Cuz frankly, these newer games are just sad. They're starting to value quantity over quality and it shows. Pumping out game after game. After what used to take years only takes months. It's not increase in better technology, it's increase in laziness and poor directing. Regardless, I'm going back to play Gen 5 again for like the 2nd time (I've been just holding onto my first file cuz it's my first ever and I hate letting memories go) letting go of my buddy Samurott, my first lvl 100 ever hydreigon and going back to play White 2 again. properly this time not speedrunning it like the naïve child I was. (Oh yeah I even forgot to check Cynthia's house when I was younger and learned about it like last year... embarrassing XD.)
I grew up playing pkmm emerald, fire red and white, while i played and enjoyed emerald the most i also had alot of fun with white and fire red was pretty good too. I remember going into a Chinese restaurant and seeing a Chinese kid playing a fimilar looking game. I knew he was at least playing pkmn black or white but his male character sprite looked a bit different than Hibert's, not knowing that sequels to black and white exist. I eventually got to emulate white 2 (shout out to drastic emulator) and pkmn BW are great games but i literally forgot about it when i played white 2 because it's that good of a game. 😄 pkmn emerald is still my favorite pkmn game because it's tropical environment appeals to be alot, but BW2 are easily my 2nd favorite pkmn games.

Did you know Yancy and Curtis (the 2 with the Xtransceiver side quest in B2W2) are actually the celebrities Nancy and Christoph from TV Celebrity channel? This is not a speculation. How'd I found out?
On the Xtransceiver when they were going to tell you their names they were about to give you other names (which were their celebrity names). You are only able to see a few letters of that name before they cut themselves off giving you Yancy or Curtis (depending on your gender).
In Nimbasa City by the Audino statue there was a lady that mentions about the celebrities coming by and being on their Xtransceivers a lot.
Lastly, after returning Yancy or Curtis their Xtransceiver go watch the Celebrity channel on TV. There is a text that will only play once involving Nancy or Christoph.
Every time i see this game i stare in awe that it's actually on the DS

When people ask me "what Pokemon games should I play?" I usually tell them to play at first FireRed for 1st gen nostalgia. Then I recommend 5th gen for the brand-new experience.

This was a love letter to Pokemon, and if the series would have ended here it would have been a fantastic send off.
Just talking about PWT, Battle Subway, Black Tower/White Treehollow which are not the same because you have to beat both facilities in the same game if you have the key to unlock the one that isn't in your game, Pokéstar Studios, the medals, Join Avenue, all the postgame and legendaries to catch. Even small stuff like the Habitat List. If I only knew the recent games and someone told me that there is a Pokémon game with this much content, I'd think that it's not an official Pokémon game but a hackroom. It's amazing the amount of stuff these games have. And the amount of caves, mountains, towers and forests and places (like Castelia Sewers and Relic Passage and Castle), you have like 2 special places per city/town. It's almost too good to be true. And the easy and challenge modes, they weren't well implemented at all but it was a start for a game that had never offered different difficulties before, and the challenge mode is pretty good, not as hard as it could be but the held items, extra Pokémon and extra levels of important trainers were fairly tough to deal with. Pokéstar Studios definitely was the best and most original feature that Pokémon has ever created. Movies, but with Pokémon, but with the regular battle system with dialogue in between, exclusive music and in-game artworks and sprites for each of the 40 movies, and good, bad and strange endings. Like what the fuck, the games that followed had next to no extra content outside of a generic battle facility with singles, doubles and multi battles. And the first games with dlc saved the generic postgame for the dlcs and didn't include nothing the older games didn't already have for free.
B2 was my first game. I hadn't played B1 or any other game so I had to piece the lore together. Y and Omega ruby were fun but felt boring quickly, B2 had lots more in terms of content. B2's cutscenes are what sold me. There wasn't any standing around, talking wasn't a free action. I even have the dream radar extension.
I loved how before you faced the first gym leader, you had access to 9 different species of pokemon you could catch, with types ranging from normal, grass, water, electric and fighting.
Pokemon games could've been much different if Gen 5 was recieved better. Those who did not buy the games at the time missed out, and now cry wishing to go back. Its the people's fault to why Game Freak half-ass pokemon giving extra content as DLC for purchase. Game Freak knows that whatever they put out, people are still going to buy them regardless of their quality.

Pokemon black and white is my fav game of all time
I remember doing black tower in the postgame and being severely underleveled for the tenth floor. So I spend like 3 hours putting my Pokémon in the daycare and biking up and down the marvelous bridge until I was close to the level of Benga’s team. I will never forgot that or the clutch critical hit my Gigalith pulled out to kill his Volcarona. Good times
I remember fucking around in Pokestar studios and somehow getting a strange ending with the protag marrying Sabrina's villainess character, lmao. BW2 is a god-tier Pokemon game.
i genuinely feel like these games were the most badass like they had fusion in the story! I feel like if they had mega evolution in these games, they’d be the most action packed games yet

I feel like putting the games on the switch was a good idea because it means you can play it on that console and they can make it a lot better as the switch can run better games...

I just finished the game and i really like all the 3d stuff in pokemon black version 2
My dream Black & White remake would be to have it in the style of Octopath Traveler. This game's aesthetics and style are so unique that I simply feel it done in the style of the current games wouldn't do them justice. Next, I LOVE the Dream World. I thought that was such a unique and fun concept, and it saddened me so when the servers went off line and it was gone forever. Make that an in game feature. I would argue that I really liked being limited to only using the Gen 5 mons during the story and unlocking the old mon post-game, but maybe to appease both camps, have the Pokedex be similar to Black & White 2. Post game should be like a Delta Episode featured in ORAS, have it take place a few years later and go after Ghetsis who's trying to awaken Kyurem and return it to it's original form.

Not sure why they didn't keep the achievement system - great way to play the games every day and find purpose while catching or training Pokemon, but I wonder if it's because it's against modern philosphy of seemingly being 1-run experiences.
if you need purpose to play a game, stop playing games.
My reason for loving both Black and White games is the fact that there's a world.
Let me explain:
A lot of people see Sword and Shield as some sort of carbon copy of Black and White- I will not lie, with all the "returning" assets and functions from Black and White back to Sword and Shield, I have to agree.
But that's also why it's so... badly done.
Compared to the other Pokémon games- there is a major focus on "not experiencing the same thing twice." This could be the weather, the season, the grottos, etc.
It makes you have to actively plan exactly what or when you should do something- because of the big chance that you may not be able to do it anymore.
Games like Sun and Moon, Sword and Shield- they put a big focus on making everything available to you instead of having to wait for the next chance to do something- Especially Ultra / DLC parts. Ultra allowed you to cross into the opposite world you're in so you can collect Pokémon from the opposite game.
Sword and Shield, it half-heartedly tried to do weather / seasonal conditions with the Wild Area- but the problem is it didn't actually affect the game itself- and in return made Pokémon seem a little more fake.
and me as a pokemon player fore 20 years see black and white as a pathetic miserable failure to imitate blue and red.
I played b2w2 before black and white because I thought it was better since it had all Pokémon 1-5 gens instead of b/w only having the Unova pokemon

Black and white were technically my first Pokémon games, I played heart gold before but never actually played through the story since I didn’t fully own a DS just borrowed my brothers but on Christmas of 2010 I got a DS and Pokémon white, I still love that game more than any Pokémon game. Amazing story, I mean come on instead of a Pokémon team “hey kid give us your Pokémon because we bad guys” they had literal medieval vibes like team plasma felt like knights or templars with wanting to free Pokémon from what they believed as slavery it brought a whole new plot into Pokémon with morals and the whole game revolved around that simple idea. I mean like castles coming out of the ground, a king, knights/templars and even dragons??? You cannot tell me that’s not creative. The sequels even expanded this idea, once plasma king N gets defeated he vanishes without a trace. Half of plasma feel abandoned following ghetsis taking the dark revenge filled side while some follow N believing what they did was wrong and wanting to make the world a better place an actual battle of morals split this team up into a civil war between themselves which I thought was just amazing. I agree a lot of the Pokémon were...eh, but really we you can’t say a magnet and a ball make better Pokémon like come on.
TLDR: I feel nostalgic for Black and White, but still love the games for the creativity and wish it was appreciated more for what it was when we had it. If this game released today with current graphics it would easily be my #1 game of all time

What if I were shiny hunting on a drastic emulator? I could increase the speed x2 when shiny hinting if the shiny spawn rate is equal on an emulated file.

These games were the only ones to include a difficulty setting. Whilst it was finicky to obtain, it was nice to have and varied up the post-game content.
