Estamos quizá ante la mejor grabación Operística de todos los tiempos, la orquesta, el gran Von Karajan y esa joya emergida de las minas de San Luis Potosí, México: Oralia Domínguez.
More than perfect!but lovers of contraltos ,listen also to Melanie Bougarinovitsch .She has recorded Russian operas for the Age of Diamonds.Especially in Chovantchina. Also her Erda in Bayreuth.
That's a TRUE CONTRALTO for sure as this role was meant always to be - and one of the more noticeable ones for this very special, rare and epic legendary voice type - so she wasn't a "mezzo" as she labeled herself for having a wider career - as mezzos got more roles than contraltos after all - but maybe a Dramatic Mezzo (very close to Contralto as a bit higher) or better as she sang also Lyrical Mezzo and Coloratura Contralto (or attempted them) and even some Coloratura Mezzo too, wich was too higher for her, a true Assoluta Voice but into the Alto/Contralto level and not a Assoluta (Sfogato)Soprano as usual happened, thus being a rarer powerfull epic voice after all!!
No, she is a mezzo. And there is no such thing as a lyric or dramatic mezzo. There are just mezzos. And she could sing pretty much all of the mezzo/contralto repertoire.
@@xxsaruman82xx87 There are subtypes of mezzos pretty much as there are for sopranos and contraltos too, in her case is the deepest and darkest mezzo type that kinda is a contralto at her core voice but goes very higher than the usual one.
@@xxsaruman82xx87 the standard or central mezzo is the lyrical one having both Soprano 2 + Alto 1 range, the dramatic just have Alto 1 and the light/coloratura just Soprano 2.
@@tauruslhadzyan5901 I think that's over-complicating things. The modern 'mezzos' we have today are all sopranos. Dominguez, Obraztsova, Stignani, Nicolai, etc were all true mezzosopranos. And Barbieri is probably the most recent contralto.
@@xxsaruman82xx87 not all modern mezzos are soprano-like or underdeveloped sopranos that kinda is the coloratura mezzo actually. True lyrical and dramatical mezzos indeed are rare today.
She sounds nice for Erda and maybe fitting for the slightly "younger" version of her at the timeline of the Rhinegold settings long before the final more mature version of her at the Siegfried third act opening scene, where she is a definitive full Contralto there, much alike her eldest daughter, the Norn of the Past. But here it´s nice to see an alternative of a younger version approaching a Mezzo in its lower tier too! However still love more the Erdas which keep being already a true Contralto since the begining here too and not only on Siegfried´s opera. Thus Dominguez is kinda HIGHER for an even better Erda then!
Großartig, sowas gibt es heute nicht mehr!!!!!!Die Stimme rollt!!!!

La voz de Oralia es realmente la voz de Erda (La Tierra) densa, grave, monumental, a la vez doliente y profética. Inconmensurable!!!
One of the greatest voices ever, regardless of gender or fach.
Супер!!! Brava!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤
a definition of Art
omg what a beautiful post... the sea behind Oralia... Gorgeous
If Wotan did not take heed from THIS Erda.....there is no hope whatsoever for Valhalla.....or Mankind......stunning....
Absolutely stunning
Maravillosa
Wonderful recording of Dominguez - Von Karajan -Berlin Philharmonic
on tremble....
LA voix que Wagner aurait sûrement avalisée - elle transcende ses œuvres
quant à cet opus là sûrement l'un des plus magistral ...
Magnifique
Best Erda I have heard in my entire life!!! Karajan definitely knew what he was doing.
Well, apart from the fact that he cast DFD as Wotan.
Jean Madeira did it miles better.
@@ernstjung6234I love both!!
Read a review that said her Erda wasn’t other worldly enough! Sounds to me she was out if this world as Erda! What more could you want?
Listen to Margarete Arndt Ober.
WOW!!!
Cantante orgullosamente hecha en México,
Viva México!
Que c'est beau !
MEXICAN!!!!!!! Take that world !
She is one of the greatest operatic mezzo-sopranos to ever live, and my personal favourite!

She has authority in her voice, which is imperative for Erda. And only an alto can sing this part properly.
the hairs on my arm stood up in that first minute

Not as good as contralto Karin Branzell or fellow mezzo Margarete Arndt Ober, but still good.
