I was 18 years old when I took part of a huge 200 choir to sing Verdi’s Requiem in Guadalajara, Mexico. Oralia Domínguez was the Mezzo who’d sing this very part and at the time I had NO IDEA of her artistic stature. A one point when she was singing “Luz Aeterna” the lights of Teatro Degollado went off and the place was totally dark. She continued singing and when the lights came back, the concert continued as if nothing had happened. The conductor used the ten fingers of his hands to point to the actual measure in the score for all musicians to follow. Thank you for sharing this video.
The ideal kind of voice for the "Liber scriptus" with such a well developed and beautiful chest register!), and I also appreciate her expressiveness very much.
Absolutely rock solid from the bottom of the voice to the top. Even, clear and warm singing of the highest order. I especially love how she doesn’t push the bottom of her voice but there’s no doubt that she could deliver and then some. Thx for sharing this exceptional singing!
@ronald c So true! A lot of great singers had that problem. We can still here great things that were essentials in their singing though. If only we have this kind of teaching today...
I was lucky enough to hear her sing the Requiem in Madrid in the 60's with Lorengar as the soprano. And a couple of years later I heard her sing Brahms Alto Rhapsody. She was absolutely phenomenal. I haven't forgotten her almost 60 years later. Dios la bendiga.
I agree, this is the first I have heard of her, and she is extraordinary. I would expect her to be as well known as Cossotto or Horne based on this performance.
My first “meeting” with this phenomenal voice was on LP, in Verdi’s Requiem conducted by Fricsay. Also, like here, a live recording. Since then I have bought many Requiems. I love this sacred “opera”. Well, I haven’t “met” another voice better than Dominguez in the part . It seems that, like somebody else wrote, Verdi composed the part FOR the phenomenal Dominguez !
Maravillosa

The BEST mezzo in Verdi’s Requiem .

She is wonderful in the famous 1958 Forza from Naples - with Tebaldi and Corelli
Sung as if Verdi wrote it for her voice

Un vélours de Voix Sans égale…… BRAVO ORALIA…..
Now that’s singing ❤️😊
Thanks, we are fortunate to have this What a beautiful and expressive voice.
Impressionante la ricchezza della sua voce! 🤩🌟💕
Oralia, pure gold!
Fabulous Oralia!
You have an absolutely amazing channel full of gems. Oralia divina! Thank you
This is simply phenomenal!!
And now we have the woofy, wobbly and unfocused voice of Anita Rashvelishvili who is marketed as the world’s top mezzo...
@ronald c Dominguez is not woofy.

@ronald c exactly.
I really don't like her singing in the 1958 Forza.
She sounds thin and forced.
And the best soprano is Ana Netrebko
@@winwasinvocals What he talked? What problem?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh, por Dios, pero qué extraordinario!
Wow...stunning
I see Martina Arroyo seated behind her!

Magnificent ❤
Beyond words. How can anyone give thumbs down to this vocal splendour?

What vocal presence she had.
So much better than Horne or Cossotto
Why was she not. Super star of opera like so many others? She sounds ideal for heavy Verdi and Wagner!
She was. She was just underrecorded because she was Mexican.
She was pretty well represented...given the time....she was top tier.
I agree, this is the first I have heard of her, and she is extraordinary. I would expect her to be as well known as Cossotto or Horne based on this performance.
@@SteveL2012 She was far greater than either Horne or Cossotto
Epoustouflant !
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this, I constantly circle back and find my self listening to it, such a great artist.
Fenomenal
But she is! A different period but still widely recognised as a super star in opera. And unlike many "superstars" of our days, she is a SuperStar!
Verdi would approve 😅

My God! Is complete???
Good Lord! Is that Martina Arroyo sitting at the back? This is a spectacular lineup.
Yes
Great post! Thanks. Do you happen to own full video recording of this performance?
Staggering!
Very impressive. Who sings this way now? No one, I guess.
A complete Verdi Requiem with her would be most welcome. Is there a mezzo of her type around today?
The whole performance is available on RUclips. Verdi reqiem Paris 1969
There’s many potential mezzos but none that can actually do what she did vocally. The technique is just not there anymore.
